When United States Senator Ron Johnson (R-Wisconsin) debated Democratic Senate nominee Mandela Barnes, Wisconsin's lieutenant governor, at Marquette University's Varsity Theater on Thursday night, he was met with laughter when he alleged that he was "set up" by Federal Bureau of Investigation during its investigation into Russian misinformation two years ago. "Johnson was informed at an FBI briefing in 2020 that he was the target of Russian disinformation as part of a campaign to make him useful to the Kremlin, the senator confirmed to The Washington Post last year," Yahoo! News explained on Friday. The crowd did not buy it. On Saturday, Johnson appeared on Fox News and was questioned why his audience refused to take him seriously. Sen. Ron Johnson (R-WI) took issue with a remark from his Democratic opponent suggesting Johnson was warned he was considered a “Russian asset.” During an exchange about Russia’s war against Ukraine in Thursday’s Senate debate in Wisconsin, Democratic Lt. Gov. Mandela Barnes said the United States should continue to support Ukraine. He also used the opportunity to point to a confirmation Johnson made last year. In April 2021, reports circulated saying the FBI warned Johnson he may be targeted by Russia as part of an influence operation. Johnson conceded last year that the meeting had taken place. “Regarding reports that I received an FBI briefing warning me that I was a target of Russian disinformation, I can confirm I received such a briefing in August of 2020,” Johnson told the Washington Post. Barnes noted the briefing during the debate. “There was also an instance where Senator Johnson had to be sat down by the FBI and warned that he may be a Russian asset,” Barnes stated. “We cannot trust Senator Johnson to protect democracy abroad because we can’t even trust...

Photo by Brandon Bell/Getty Images Gov. Kristi Noem (R-SD) ran political ads in early primary states last month in a potential sign she might run for the GOP nomination in 2024. She has not said one way or another what she intends to do in a primary believed to belong to former President Donald Trump and Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL). Neither man has declared and it is not clear if DeSantis has any intention to run for the party’s nomination for president. That might not be the case for Noem. She shared her story with voters in Iowa, New Hampshire and other states during the month of June through an ad. She spoke about her personal life and bragged about South Dakota’s economic wins. She declared, “Freedom runs free. So Saddle up.” The Daily Caller reported: Her campaign released a total of nine ads. Overall, the advertisement earned one quarter of its audience size from South Dakota, 11% in South Carolina, 10% in Ohio, nine percent in Pennsylvania and six percent in Iowa, according to Meta summary data. Arizona’s attorney general, during a debate on Thursday, lashed out at hecklers upset at him for aggressively prosecuting election fraud cases. During a forum featuring the Republicans running for Senate in Phoenix, state attorney general Mark Brnovich took various shots from several rivals including far-right, Donald Trump-endorsed candidate Blake Masters for “I believe that the chief law enforcement officer in the state has reasonable suspicion to open a criminal investigation into [the 2020 election],” Mick McGuire, one candidate, said. He added, referring to Brnovich, “There is someone on this stage that can act on that … [until then, you can’t] expect us to take you seriously.” When it was Brnovich’s turn to speak, he was met with jeers and heckles from the MAGA faithful in the audience. “I know people are upset,” he said, trying to quiet the crowd. “But you know what? We’re conservatives. The Constitution matters.” Despite the fact that even a widely-discredited Republican-led review of the results confirmed President Joe Biden received more votes than Trump in Arizona, Brnovich was unable to satisfy his...
