The View co-host Sunny Hostin confronted White House Covid-19 Response Coordinator Ashish Jha on Friday over whether the Biden administration “miss[ed] an opportunity to get ahead of” the monkeypox outbreak. Hostin quoted a New York Times op-ed last week by former FDA Commissioner Scott Gottlieb, who wrote that monkeypox could be “one of the worst public health failures in modern times” since, as Hostin summarized, “it could’ve been prevented and that this should have been code red when the first cases emerged.” “Did this administration miss an opportunity to get ahead of the virus?” asked Hostin. Jha avoided directly answering the question and defended the administration’s response to the outbreak. It’s interesting, you know, people often compare the monkeypox response to the Covid response from a couple of years ago. And I remind people, it’s been about two-and-a-half months since we first identified the first case. What we have seen in that two-and-a-half months is hundreds of thousands of vaccines out, testing widespread and available. We’re doing everything at this point possible to make this easier and easier. Dr. Gottlieb...

DEAR MISS MANNERS: My husband and I are an older couple, and my husband isn’t in the best of health. With that, a lot of care falls on me. I knew this going into the marriage seven years ago, and accepted the responsibility willingly — grateful that I can share these years with the kindest, most gentle man I have ever known. Maybe I am being a bit thin-skinned, but my husband’s family and kids by a prior marriage seem to think I don’t exist. Cards and invitations all come addressed to him only, or him “plus guest.” I may be old-fashioned, but I did teach my children that even if you don’t care for the husband or wife, you always include both. Lay your battles down for that day and be nice for that event. Former Miss USA winner Cheslie Kryst texted her mother a haunting message jumping to her death from her New York City apartment.  Kryst, 30, sent her mother April Simpkins a text message right before jumping from her NYC high-rise, reading: 'First, I'm sorry, by the time you get this, I won't be alive anymore. And it makes me even more sad to write this because I know this will hurt you the most.'   Simpkins revealed on Red Table Talk that she 'near blacked out' after reading the message. 'By the time I had read the text, an hour had passed,' she told host Jada Pinkett-Smith, her daughter Willow Smith, Pinkett-Smith's mother Adrienne Banfield-Norris. Kryst had sent her mother the text while she knew she'd be in an exercise class.  'I [remember] calling my husband and screaming "what, what" and we got home and just trying to figure out what to do. I had not read the rest of her message, I just couldn't.'  She added that she instantly took the text seriously because this was her daughter's second suicide attempt. She had previously...
CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) — Conference USA has agreed to allow Marshall, Old Dominion and Southern Miss to expedite their move to the Sun Belt. The resolution announced in a brief, joint statement Tuesday allows the three schools to withdraw from Conference USA by the end of the current academic year. Marshall, Old Dominion and Southern Miss accepted invitations to the Sun Belt during the fall. Each announced last month they planned to terminate memberships in C-USA on June 30 to join their new conference. C-USA then filed a request for arbitration and said the three schools were contractually obligated to stay put for another year, prompting Marshall, Old Dominion and Southern Miss to file their own court complaints against the league. The Sun Belt’s expansion from 10 to 14 football schools also includes James Madison, which announced in February it is moving from the second-tier FCS to the FBS level this summer. The Dukes went 12-2 last fall and reached the national semifinals for the fifth time in the last six years. In early March, the Sun Belt released...
MILLIONS of Americans are being warned not to miss out on getting up to $6,728 as part of the Earned Income Tax Credit program. The scheme is designed to help low to middle-income families and the only way to receive the credit is to file a tax return. 1Americans are being warned to miss out on up to $6,728 as part of the Earned Income Tax Credit programCredit: Getty A family with three or more kids can get up to $6,728 in EITC, while taxpayers that don't have a qualifying child can get up to $1,502, according to the IRS. To be eligible, taxpayers must’ve worked and earned income under $57,414 if they are married and joint filers. IRS Commissioner Chuck Rettig said last month: "There are important changes to EITC that will help this credit reach more hard-working families this year. "We urge people potentially eligible for this valuable credit to review the guidelines; many people each year overlook this and leave money on the table." It's thought that around one in five taxpayers do not claim EITC...

President Joe Biden paid tribute to his late son Beau Thursday morning at the National Prayer Breakfast - on what would have been the Delaware attorney general's 53rd birthday.  'I miss my son every single day, I know he's always with me,' the president told those gathered in the auditorium of the Capitol Visitor Center for the annual affair. Biden made his appearance after the administration announced the head of ISIS, Abu Ibrahim al-Hashimi, had been killed in Syria - but would speak to that specifically at the White House later Thursday morning.   At this year's scaled-back breakfast, only lawmakers, speakers and their spouses were present - and so Biden's main message to the audience was imploring them to get along.  'One of the things I don't know for sure but I think is missing in the Congress - you don't spend enough time with one another as we used to,' Biden suggested. 'It's hard to really dislike someone when you know they're going through the same thing you're going through,' he also pointed out.    At one point Biden turned to Senate Minority...
DEAR MISS MANNERS: I am an older gentleman who has repeatedly been described as “a natty dresser.” (I just think that I dress neatly and appropriately.) After missing two games due to testing positive for COVID, Amari Cooper’s status for Thursday Night Football is completely up in the air.  While the Dallas Cowboys have welcomed back Amari Cooper from the COVID-19 list, that doesn’t mean that all is well for the star wide receiver. That’s because there’s a chance he might miss his third consecutive game. Per head coach Mike McCarthy, Cooper is still not back to 100 percent and he’s still feeling a little ill. Because of this, it’s not certain that he’ll be able to practice on Tuesday. On top of that, it’s unknown if he’ll be able to suit up on Thursday night against the Saints. It was a big weekend for the state of Mississippi with Ole Miss and Mississippi State getting big wins to make a move in this week’s SEC power rankings. This college football season continues to be bizarre. Unfortunately for two future members of the Southeastern Conference, things weren’t easy on Saturday. This past week, the Texas Longhorns lost to the Kansas Jayhawks in Austin for the first time while the Oklahoma Sooners were beaten by the Baylor Bears. Over in the SEC, things were odd with the conference’s current members. One team managed to blow a 28-3 lead as their opponent scored 40 unanswered points, an FCS team put up 52 on a once-proud program, and two teams that have had fun offenses this season found a way to play a really low scoring affair. A former Miss Great Britain who was inspired to lose eight stone following a difficult break up has said it's 'totally acceptable' to dump a partner who has put on the pounds if they aren't 'willing to get back in shape'. Jen Atkin, who won the beauty pageant crown last year, appeared on Good Morning Britain today to discuss Alice Evans claims that her estranged husband Ioan Gruffudd told her he would leave her if she 'gained weight'. The columnist, from Ulceby, Lincolnshire, said it was 'totally acceptable' to ditch someone who 'wasn't willing to get healthy again' - especially if 'you don't fancy them anymore'. However body confidence coach Queen MoJo, who joined Jen on this morning's programme and appears on ITV2's new reality TV show Peckham's Finest, insisted it shouldn't matter since 'weight isn't a personality trait'. Jen transformed from 17 stone to 9 stone after the breakdown of her first serious relationship, fearing that she wouldn't meet someone else. Scroll down for video

Arkansas and Ole Miss were humbled while Auburn and Kentucky snapped long losing streaks vs. opponents as they make a big move in the new SEC power rankings. There’s a ton of parity in the SEC this season. Sure, Alabama and Georgia are clearly the best teams in the conference and there appears to be a huge gap between those two teams and everyone else, but from there on down, there is a sizable group of closely contested teams. Ole Miss, Arkansas, Florida, and Texas A&M were all supposed to be teams that challenged the upper echelon of the SEC this season and all four teams lost this weekend. While there’s still a slight chance that Ole Miss and Arkansas make things interesting in the SEC, the Gators and Aggies each now have two losses in conference play. After this past weekend, given which teams won and lost, it seems likely that team like Auburn, Mississippi State, and Kentucky all have a chance at giving some folks some headaches this season. EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP) — Matt Ammendola kicked a 22-yard field goal in overtime, and then Randy Bullock was wide left on a potential tying 49-yarder with 15 seconds left to give the New York Jets their first victory, 27-24 over the Tennessee Titans on Sunday. After the Jets took the lead in the extra period but failed to seal it with a touchdown despite getting to the 1-yard line, Ryan Tannehill — playing without injured receivers Julio Jones and A.J. Brown — marched the Titans downfield with the help of two fourth-down conversions. On second-and-5 from the Jets 26, Anthony Firkser couldn’t hold onto a pass from Tannehill and then the Titans took a delay of game penalty. Tannehill threw incomplete to Jeremy McNichols, setting up the tying kick for Bullock — but the ball sailed wide of the left upright and sent the Jets (1-3) into a wild celebration. (CNN)For months, NBA stars and executives have pushed for every player to get vaccinated. The rule mainly affects unvaccinated players on the Brooklyn Nets and the Golden State Warriors, as both New York and San Francisco require players to be vaccinated, barring any religious exemptions.
