The St. Louis Cardinals are in the market to replace franchise legend Yadier Molina and they are closing in on Willson Contreras. Is that the right move? One of the big focuses for the St. Louis Cardinals in the 2022-23 offseason has long been set as finding a backstop to face one of the iconic players in franchise history, Yadier Molina. And one of the most obvious options all along has been stealing a star from one of the club’s biggest rivals by signing Willson Contreras. Now it appears that’s coming closer to fruition. On Tuesday, MLB insider Jon Heyman reported that the Cardinals “remain among favorites” to sign Contreras, a Cubs fan favorite, to be their catcher of the future and usher in a new era at Busch Stadium. #STLCards remain among favorites for Willson Contreras. Republicans are pumping the breaks on bipartisan talks to keep the government open and funded for at least a year. Senate GOP Leader Mitch McConnell told reporters on Tuesday that it's more likely that Congress will have to pass a short-term spending bill and take the matter up again early next year. But when lawmakers return in 2023, they'll be navigating a vastly different political playing field to get things done - one where Republicans control the House of Representatives. The deadline to pass a spending bill and avert a partial government shutdown is December 16. It would include money to keep government agencies running and federal workers paid - in addition to other agenda items Democrats and Republicans can agree on. Congressional leaders including McConnell met with President Joe Biden at the White House last week, where they discussed passing a year-long omnibus package to keep the government running and its employees paid. Multiple Republican senators indicated to DailyMail.com on Tuesday that they're opposed to such an extensive spending package. Last week, McConnell said that there was 'widespread agreement'...

White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre took Twitter to task for allegedly tolerating anti-Semitic and other bigoted forms of content on the platform. During Monday’s daily briefing, Fox News White House Correspondent Jacqui Heinrich asked Jean-Pierre about the Biden administration’s approach toward Twitter and its new owner Elon Musk. Her question came days after Musk teased the release of the “Twitter Files,” which consisted of internal company communications tweeted by journalist Matt Taibbi on Friday. Taibbi said he agreed to relay the information while adhering to conditions that he did not specify. The communications show Twitter employees in 2020 discussing how the platform should treat then-unconfirmed (but now-confirmed) reports about Hunter Biden’s laptop, which had been left behind at a computer repair store in Delaware. A repairman at the shop said he viewed its contents and alerted the FBI over possible criminal activity recorded on the hard drive. Twitter ultimately decided to restrict access to the story ahead of the 2020 presidential election. Heinrich asked Jean-Pierre if the White House believes Twitter acted “appropriately.” “My question was that you said...
Meta has threatened to remove all news content from its sites if Congress passes a law allowing news organizations to negotiate the terms of its content distribution with big tech.  Communications Director Andy Stone tweeted on Monday that if Congress passes the Journalism Competition and Preservation Act, Meta would be 'forced' to remove all news content from Facebook and Instagram. The bipartisan bill would allow publications with fewer than 15,000 full-time employees to negotiate 'pricing, terms and conditions' whereby major tech platforms may distribute its content. Advocates of the legislation say it is necessary to counter the market dominance of Facebook and Google, though Meta executives suggest it may actually impede outlets' revenue as their sites provide traffic to news outlets' websites. The Senate Judiciary Committee passed the bill with a 15 - 7 vote in September, but it has yet to be introduced on the Senate floor. Meta, the parent company of Facebook and Instagram, run by CEO Mark Zuckerberg (pictured) threatened on Monday to remove all news content if Congress passes a law allowing news organizations to negotiate the...
Incendiary claims by Prince Harry of ‘a war against Meghan’ sparked a furious backlash last night. In a trailer for their new documentary, he alleged the couple had suffered from leaks and planted stories that backed up the Royal Family ‘hierarchy’. Allies told the six-hour series on Netflix there was ‘a war against Meghan to suit other people’s agendas’, with one claiming ‘it’s about hatred, it’s about race’. In clips for the show, Harry, 38, took aim at royal aides, smirking as he commented: ‘It’s a dirty game.’ But royal sources insisted it was ‘absolutely wrong’ to suggest Harry and Meghan had been briefed against and ‘unprecedented steps’ had been taken to support them. The new trailer gave the clearest signal yet that the California-based pair will reopen old wounds as they seek to justify why they quit as working royals and left Britain. During the teaser, a friend is heard claiming that the couple's experience has been 'about hatred, about race' as a strikingly intimate and previously unseen clip flashes up of an exasperated Harry, 38, holding a hand to...

THE migrant crisis in the Channel is spiralling out of control – and with it, the costs of our immigration and asylum system. Since the crossings began in 2018, around 83,000 migrants have made it ashore here. 3Around 83,000 migrants have made it to Britain since the crossings began in 2018Credit: PA 3The annual asylum bill of £2.1bn could cover the wages of 62,000 nursesCredit: Getty That’s more migrants than there are regular soldiers in the British Army. Looking after them while our incredibly slow system grinds away, processing their asylum claims, is not cheap. In fact, since the crossings began in 2018, the annual asylum bill has more than tripled to £2.1billion. To put that in perspective, that is enough to cover the wages of 62,000 nurses. Alternatively, given the looming strikes in the NHS, the extra £1.5billion we are now spending on asylum seekers could instead have funded an extra five to six per cent pay raise for every nurse in the country. And the costs are still rising. We don’t yet have the full figures for the...
Gov. Henry McMaster (R-SC) issued a directive Monday asking that the social media app TikTok be "permanently removed" from devices managed by the South Carolina Department of Administration. "Protecting our State’s critical cyber infrastructure from foreign and domestic threats is key to ensuring the health, safety, and well-being of our citizens and businesses," he wrote to Executive Director Marcia Adams. "Federal law enforcement and national security officials have warned that TikTok poses a clear and present danger to its users, and a growing bi-partisan coalition in Congress is pushing to ban access to TikTok in the United States." TOXIC MASCULINITY: AVATAR DIRECTOR JAMES CAMERON LABELS TESTOSTERONE 'A TOXIN' McMaster explained that there are "dangers and inefficiencies" as a result of the state's "'siloed' cyber infrastructure," adding that state agencies should partner with the department to remedy this. "This partnership allows the State’s cyber infrastructure to be maintained and managed in a comprehensive and cohesive fashion," he wrote. However, McMaster is not confident that all agencies will follow his advice and thus asked for...
A large unidentified object has surfaced on the shores of Daytona Beach, Florida, after two major hurricanes eroded enough sand to expose the wooden contraption. The object was discovered by members of Volusia County Beach Safety and recent beachgoers, county officials told the New York Times. Rep. Kevin McCarthy’s (R-CA) plan to read the Constitution on the House floor in the new year is motivated by former President Donald Trump’s recent call for it to be suspended, CNN anchor and correspondent Audie Cornish theorized. On Monday’s CNN This Morning, co-host Don Lemon noted the lack of Republicans calling out the former president for his recent call for the suspension of the Constitution, including McCarthy. “It sounds like he knows it needs to be done because the leader of the party doesn’t really believe in it,” Cornish said in reaction to McCarthy. The Republican leader’s plan was announced in a tweet amidst his internal battle to become the Speaker of the House against growing opposition. “On the very first day of the new Republican-led Congress, we will read every single word of the Constitution aloud from the floor of the House—something that hasn’t been done in years,” he tweeted last week. USMNT legend DaMarcus Beasley has sensationally lost a tooth, just moments before going on Fox Sports' coverage of the 2022 FIFA World Cup, as the ex-midfielder had to put it in his pocket to make sure he didn't miss his queue to go on live TV. The only American to play in four World Cups, his first in 2002 and latest in 2014, was caught off guard by the unexpected on Sunday evening following the US channel's broadcasts of England's 3-0 win against Senegal and France's victory over Poland (3-1). The 40-year-old Beasley, who played 126 times and scored 17 goals in 16 years for the US, was then scolded by TV host Kate Abdo, as he vowed to never 'come again' on Fox Sports.  ????@DaMarcusBeasley lost his tooth a few seconds before he went on air ???? pic.twitter.com/FodPHYAFqI— FOX Soccer (@FOXSoccer) December 5, 2022 Ex-USMNT midfielder DaMarcus Beasley with 126 caps lost his tooth on Fox Sports on Sunday The 40-year-old, who went to four World Cups with the US, was stunned by the moment on TV RELATED ARTICLES...

Ever wished you could swim on the bay without actually immersing yourself in the frigid, murky water? A new proposal would turn an old pier on the San Francisco waterfront into the Bay Area’s first public floating pool, where guests could swim laps, play water polo or lounge in a hot tub while soaking up a view of the Bay Bridge. The plan also includes offices, shops and apartments — and for those who do prefer cold salt water, a protected cove for open water swimming, kayaking and paddle boarding. Proponents say the project could provide much-needed opportunities for locals to become more confident swimmers, in a city that is surrounded on three sides by water but has limited access to pools. But some neighbors already have raised objections to the project’s proposed residential towers and questioned the need for a pool. And developers have years of hurdles to jump through before they can even break ground. “I think this could be a really cool place where you have all sorts of people coming in, first learning to swim in...
BEING a parent is no easy task - sometimes you'll do whatever to make the day less taxing. The mum took to TikTok to demonstrate this, leaving social media users in hysterics. With her son laying on the rug in the living room, Raquel grabbed a handful of the crunchy treat and proceeded to throw it towards him. ''Hey baby, eat the snacks,'' she chuckled in the now-viral clip. According to the mum, the feeding technique seems to be hit in their household, as the little...

Tim Allen insisted on honoring the religious roots of the Christmas holiday while producing his new Disney+ series The Santa Clauses. Allen, 69, is reprising the Disney role of Santa Claus after being cast in the first film in 1994. EVER wondered what that tiny pocket on your jeans is for? It could purely be for fashion or it could have a historic purpose that might well blow your mind. 3What can you fit in your mini pocket?Credit: Getty The tiny-weeny pockets date back to 1890 when they were stitched into Levi's 'waist overalls' jeans. They were originally designed to hold pocket watches, but as we don't use pocket watches anymore, what purpose do they serve now? The now commonly seen blue jeans made by Levi Strauss & Co invented it two centuries ago and has kept it ever since. The tiny pockets are on the design in the patent Strauss and J.W. Davis made for "Improvement in Fastening Pocket Openings," on May 20, 1873. However, they were first put into mass use in 1890 with the "Lot 501" jeans, which became the model for the Levis 501 jeans we are familiar with today. Levi Strauss & Co's very own historian, Tracey Panek speaking to Insider said: "The oldest pair of waist overalls in the Levi Strauss &...

Twittergate is nothing short of a scandal and it absoutely reeks.  On Friday night, journalist Matt Taibbi live tweeted the proof of what many people have long suspected. Joe Biden's political team pressured Twitter to ban their critics and remove negative stories about the Biden family in the run-up to election day. Now, it was one thing for the then-presidential candidate to mislead the American people in the light of day, as Biden did on the debate stage in 2020 when he suggested his son Hunter's infamous laptop was a 'Russian plant.' But it's another thing for his campaign team to do it in secret too. And that's apparently what happened. And we have the evidence – in black and white. Taibbi, presumably fed documents by Twitter's new boss, Elon Musk, showed us how it all happened. 'More to review from the Biden team,' read one redacted email, which listed five Twitter accounts. 'Handled' was the reply, which meant the accounts had been suspended. It's still unclear what those accounts were tweeting. But a post by outspoken conservative and actor...

With forward Jimmy Butler back after missing seven games with a sore right knee, only center Omer Yurtseven, who is recovering from ankle surgery, is away from the team. Even guard Victor Oladipo continues to ramp up his work as he prepares for his season debut, after his rebab from a knee issue. “That brings life into our whole group,” Spoelstra said ahead of Friday night’s game against the Boston Celtics at TD Garden. “We all know how important [Butler] is for our team, and it’s just great to have the entire group back in the same gym, including Vic. We’ll get Omer back with us soon enough. “We’re not fully healthy, but you could just feel like the momentum’s starting to shift. It could be one way for the DOJ to gather evidence of alleged fraud. In a filing in Delaware federal bankruptcy court, Andrew Vara, a U.S. bankruptcy trustee, told the court that the allegations of corporate misconduct and complete failure merited an immediate and speedy examination of the events leading up to FTX's stunning collapse three weeks ago. Vara said there's a substantial basis to believe that Bankman-Fried and other managers mismanaged FTX or engaged in fraudulent conduct. "It seems to me that the DOJ is trying to use the bankruptcy process as a way of getting evidence," former federal prosecutor Renato Mariotti told CNBC. "Many times, the Department...
