A San Jose homeowner says speeding drivers have crashed into his house at least 23 times since 1972, with four cars barreling straight through the California home. Ray Minter's home is located across the 680 South freeway off-ramp on Jackson Avenue in San Jose, California. Since the exit ramp was built in 1972, Minter says drivers have routinely sped off the ramp and into his home. 'Since the freeway has been there, I've had four of the cars come through my house completely,' Minter told KTVU. 'All the other ones have torn up my fence, and I've lost three cars in the yard.' One incident left a young family member injured. 'My youngest niece, she was young,' he said. 'She was right here on the curb and a lady came flying across and hit her. She was in the hospital for a couple of weeks and broke her arm.' Ray Minter, who has lived at the home since 1960, says the crashes did not begin until the nearby off-ramp was built 12 years later. Lauren Salzman has avoided jail time for her role in recruiting slaves for the NXIVM sex cult. Salzman, 45, was facing nine years behind bars after pleading guilty to charges of racketeering and conspiracy, but on Wednesday US District Judge Nicholas Garaufis instead sentenced her to five years probation.  He took mercy on Salzman, noting that she had delivered testimony against NXIVM co-founder Keith Raniere that 'substantially contributed' to his prosecution.  Last year, Raniere was sentenced to 120 years in jail for a slew of crimes, including sex and human trafficking.  Salzman escaped serving time despite the fact she confessed to locking one young woman in a room for two years in order to fulfill her duties in the sex cult.  She appeared relieved by the fact she would be walking free from court, but sobbed remorsefully: 'It kills me that I hurt people that I loved so much. '  Salzman first met Keith Raniere more than two decades ago after her own mother, Nancy, co-founded the NXIVM multi-level marketing company alongside Raniere in upstate New York. They soon began a long-term relationship.  ...

Andrew Cuomo was paid more than $4 million for his controversial book bragging about his handling of the pandemic at the same time that his office was hiding nursing home deaths, according to a report. Sources told the New York Times the embattled governor of New York state landed the big-dollar deal with publisher Crown for his memoir 'American Crisis: Leadership Lessons from the COVID-19 Pandemic'. The outlet, which obtained emails about the book and an early draft, found Cuomo was writing the book in June and July - which closely coincided with the release of the state's July 6 report. It later emerged the report had grossly undercounted COVID-19 nursing home deaths with Cuomo's office altering the 9,844 death total in the first draft to release a lower number of 6,432 to the public.  Cuomo also took aim at New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio in an early draft of the book, branding him 'one of the worst mayors in modern history' in a three-page long rant about his longtime foe which was cut from the final version. The governor released...

John Hickenlooper, the Democratic candidate for the U.S. Senate seat currently occupied by Republican Cory Gardner, was an unemployed geologist when he got the idea of starting Colorado’s first brewpub in a run-down part of downtown that had yet to be nicknamed LoDo. Hickenlooper and his partners opened the Wynkoop Brewing Company at 1634 18th Street in October 1988, a depressed period in Denver and a tough time to start anything new. But a dozen years later, the place had become such an institution that Hickenlooper contemplated going into politics — a move inspired by a campaign to save the Mile High Stadium name that had been cooked up at the Wynkoop. In 2002, when he decided to make a run for mayor, he talked it over with many community leaders who'd visited the 'koop, including Pete Meersman, then the longtime head of the Colorado Restaurant Association. Would the CRA be willing to endorse him? Hickenlooper asked.Related Stories Politics and Restaurants Make Strange Breadfellows One of Colorado's Most Important Brewpubs Never Even Opened Restaurant Roll Call: Every Opening and...
The seasoned TV personality could be perfect as the next host of 'Dancing with the Stars.' Ribeiro also knows his way around the Dancing With the Stars hosting stage. In 2015, he filled in for Bergeron as host of the ABC celebrity ballroom competition when Bergeron took unprecedented time away from his hosting duties to spend time with his sick father. Ribeiro, who also served as a guest judge on Dancing With the Stars, did not miss a beat and easily...
