President Joe Biden welcomed the Atlanta Braves' 2021 World Series team to the White House on Monday, and compared their comeback win to his own victory in the 2020 presidential election. The Braves had been counted out early in the season, and had a losing record all the way through to the All-Star break. Yet they fought back to make the play-offs and went all the way to beat the Houston Astros in the World Series.    'You made the playoffs and beat the Braves, the Brewers and the Dodgers. And then you beat the Astros, to win it all - forever known as the "upset kings of October,"' said Biden as he recounted their season. 'One of the history's greatest turnarounds. First title in 26 years. 'But none of it came easy. 'People counted you out. Heck, I I know something about being counted out.  'And I know in Georgia you show up when it counts.' LOS ANGELES — Before the Giants’ barrage of homers, before the beating sun set behind the blue-hued seats in the upper deck of Dodger Stadium, before San Francisco’s first win here all season, closer Camilo Doval was contorting himself on the clubhouse floor, just trying to maximize the area of his body exposed to a high-powered fan. It was that hot. The 90-degree temperature at first pitch marked the sixth-hottest conditions the Giants have played in this season. In other words, weather that makes the ball fly. And fly, fly it did Monday night in Chavez Ravine. With five home runs from Lewis Brinson (twice), J.D. Davis, Thairo Estrada and David Villar — four between the third and fourth innings — the Giants matched their season-high and provided Logan Webb more than enough padding to pick up their first win in seven games this season at Dodger Stadium, 7-4. THE Wembley Arch could be lit up in blue and yellow as a Carabao Cup Final mark of support for the embattled Ukrainian people. EFL chiefs are considering the gesture in Sunday’s showdown. 1The Wembley Arch could be lit up in blue and yellow to show support for UkraineCredit: PA It is understood that the Government would be in favour of the move, but there are concerns that it might antagonise some Chelsea fans and lead to potential issues as it would be seen as a gesture directed at Blues owner Roman Abramovich. Police and Wembley stewards are aware of the possibility of protests targeting Abramovich and Russia at the game, including a gathering outside the stadium. But the FA will not ask security staff to intervene if fans inside the stadium do wave Ukrainian flags. However, inflammatory gestures or messages about Russia or Abramovich COULD be considered unacceptable with banners confiscated and fans potentially evicted from the stadium. FA chiefs believe the game has made great strides in recent years to ensure English football is open, diverse and inclusive....
The Los Angeles Rams beat up the Arizona Cardinals on the field during Monday night’s NFC Wild Card Game and their fans similarly squared off in the stands. In the Rams’ first-ever home game at SoFi Stadium, they romped their division rival Arizona Cardinals 34-11. INGLEWOOD, Calif. (KABC) -- The Rams are gearing up to play the first-ever Monday night football playoff game and the team is feeling confident. This year, the team looks different than it did last year. Quarterback Matthew Stafford is just one of the things that's different."For what he's been able to do and seamlessly acclimate himself to his teammates, to our building and then also have the production he's had, I think it's pretty special," head coach Sean McVay said. One year ago, Jared Goff came off the bench, two weeks removed from thumb surgery, and led the Rams to a playoff win in Seattle. That puts a lot of pressure on the team's new quarterback, as Stafford has never won a playoff game."I feel the same amount of pressure every time I step on the field. If you step on the football field and don't feel pressure to go out there and perform, then something is wrong with you in my opinion," Stafford said. "It's positive pressure that I put on myself to go out there and help our team win.""I think...

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA) — Thousands of COVID-19 vaccine appointment slots were available Tuesday at Dodger Stadium, following what appeared to be a mix-up in messaging. “That’s hilarious,” David Scadron, who drove an elderly family member to the site, said. “It’s just totally laughable how dysfunctional the distribution process has been. A mass COVID-19 vaccination site opened Friday at the Cal Poly Pomona campus and another large-scale site in Santa Clara is scheduled to open next week, even as vaccine supply continues to constrain the rollout. The sites will become two of the biggest vaccine hubs in the state — joining Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles — if the operators can get their hands on enough doses, officials said. A group of health organizations including Kaiser Permanente launched operations at Cal Poly Pomona on Friday, with plans to eventually offer 8,000 to 10,000 appointments per day, according to university officials. The other new vaccination site is set to open early next week at Levi’s Stadium, Santa Clara County health officials said. A joint effort between the county and the San Francisco 49ers, who play their home games at the stadium, it could become the largest vaccine hub in the state if it meets its goal of doling out 15,000 shots a day. The Cal Poly Pomona site will start on a smaller scale and then ramp up...

Dr Anthony Fauci warned Wednesday that getting the COVID-19 vaccination doesn't give people a 'free pass to travel' as health officials announced the full vaccination of just 3.8 million Americans and hundreds were seen lining up to receive the jab at Dodger Stadium in hard-hit California.  The nation's top infectious disease expert appeared on a CNN Global Town Hall hosted by Anderson Cooper and Dr Sanjay Gupta when he answered a viewer's question about when immunity begins after receiving the vaccine.  Retired nurse, Carole Gardner, explained to Fauci that she and her husband haven't been able to travel to see their grandchildren. Hours after California Gov. The Miami Dolphins will allow up to 13,000 socially distancing fans to attend their home opener against the Buffalo Bills on Sept. 20, a decision that divided political leaders and upset the visiting coach. The same plan will be followed for the University of Miami’s home opener against UAB at the Dolphins’ stadium on Sept. 10.
