Getty Lakers stars Russell Westbrook (left) and LeBron James Four-time MVP LeBron James reportedly applied no pressure to the Los Angeles Lakers front office to trade Russell Westbrook to the Indiana Pacers for Myles Turner and Buddy Hield, according to an October 3rd report from Sam Amick, Shams Charania and Jovan Buha of The Athletic. James, who signed a two-year extension with the Lakers in the summer, remains supportive of the current regime. “In addition, James has shown support publicly and privately to integrating Westbrook and playing with the former league MVP again this season, and multiple sources said he applied no pressure to the Lakers front office to do the Pacers’ deal,” Amick, Charania and Buha reported. “Seven months have passed since James’ tweet supporting the ‘f— them picks’ approach of Rams GM Les Snead led some to wonder how he saw the Lakers’ strategy, and sources say he remains supportive of the current regime. And while Pelinka made it clear on media day that he’s willing to trade precious picks in the right deal, that time has...
Tennessee football fans have suffered through recent history against rival Florida so the Vols faithful let out an NSFW chant while beating the Gators.  Prior to Saturday in Neyland Stadium, Tennessee football has had a truly awful time in their annual meeting with the rival Florida Gators. The Vols had lost 16 of their last 17 meetings with the SEC East foe coming into the game and were trying to shed that unkind history in front of 100,000+ orange-and-white-clad fans. They were able to do that. Though Florida tried to give every Vols fan a panic attack late with a touchdown and recovered onside kick, Tennessee was able to come away with a 38-33 victory that wasn’t all that close for much of the game before the late-game madness. And as they are wont to do, the crowd in Knoxville was pounding their collective chest. Of course, considering we’re talking about a passionate crowd that hates the Gators, just saw the team win for only the second time in the last 18 years, and has likely been indulging in some...
Chicago Bears quarterback Justin Fields clarified comments post-game in Week 2, stressing that he did not call out the fanbase. The Chicago Bears suffered their first loss of the season in Week 2, as they fell to the rival Green Bay Packers 27-10. Following the game, quarterback Justin Fields comments caught the attention of fans and media when he was asked if losing to the Packers stings more because of the rivalry and how much Bears fans want to win the game. The question was cut out of a clip that circulated on social media, which saw Fields say “It hurts more in the locker room than the Bears fans. At the end of the day, they aren’t putting in any work.” Without the question added to the clip, it led to some backlash from fans. While meeting with the media on Wednesday, Fields clarified the comments he made a few days prior, saying he did not mean to disrespect the fanbase. You can listen to Fields’ full comments in the Bears’ tweet below. .@justnfields: "I respect every fan that...
Getty Lakers guard Russell Westbrook The Los Angeles Lakers‘ feelings toward point guard Russell Westbrook entering training camp have been revealed. According to a September 1st report from Dan Woike of the Los Angeles Times, the Lakers are “comfortable” heading into training camp with Westbrook on the roster. “Sources say the Lakers are comfortable heading into training camp with Westbrook on their roster, hoping new coach Darvin Ham can unlock increased intensity on defense while another season with (LeBron) James and (Anthony) Davis makes life easier on offense,” Woike wrote. The Lakers have been linked to the Utah Jazz and Indiana Pacers in Westbrook trade talks. They are actively exploring trade possibilities for the one-time MVP, who was second in the NBA in turnovers last season. However, if no trade comes to fruition, new Lakers head coach Darvin Ham is determined to get the best out of Westbrook, who picked up his $47.1 million player option for next season.Ham Determined to Carve Out Real Role for WestbrookAccording to an August 28th report from Marc Stein of Substack, Ham is determined to carve...

Getty Lakers star LeBron James Los Angeles Lakers superstar small forward LeBron James is eligible to sign an extension on August 4. The four-time MVP would become an unrestricted free agent in the summer of 2023 if he didn’t agree to an extension with the Lakers. James told The Athletic’s Jason Lloyd on February 19 that he wouldn’t rule out playing for the Cleveland Cavaliers again. However, Joe Vardon of The Athletic reported on August 2 that the Cavaliers “are not proceeding with the intention of getting LeBron for a third time.” “OK, I have tied myself up in knots enough over this. The Cavs are not proceeding with the intention of getting LeBron for a third time,” Vardon wrote. “As a northeast Ohio native who didn’t move when LeBron left for L.A., I am not planning on him coming back, for the reasons stated above.” Sam Amick of The Athletic reported on April 12 that James is considering playing out his present contract. However, that doesn’t mean the King is looking to leave the Lakers.James Is Extremely...
Getty Lakers star LeBron James Some good news has finally come out of Los Angeles. In his July 29 Substack column, NBA insider Marc Stein reported that LeBron James is “extremely happy” in LA despite the Los Angeles Lakers’ recent struggles. “Sources briefed on the matter stress that James is extremely happy in Los Angeles despite the Lakers’ back-to-back rocky seasons,” Stein reported. “He and his family, by all accounts, have grown increasingly entrenched in Southern California since James signed with the Lakers in the summer of 2018.” James signed with the Lakers in the summer of 2018. LA missed the playoffs in 2018-19, won the championship in 2019-20, lost in the first round of the 2021 postseason and failed to qualify for the play-in tournament last season. A four-time Finals MVP, James will turn 38 in December. He averaged 30.3 points, 8.2 rebounds and 6.2 assists last season, showing no signs of slowing down. However, the future Hall of Famer played in only 56 games due to injuries and one suspension. James, the only player in NBA...
NEW YORK (AP) — Two news outlets’ decision to release an excruciating 77-minute video this week showing police inaction during the Robb Elementary School mass shooting drew a harsh response from residents of Uvalde, Texas, even though they have sought this type of transparency for weeks. Families of the 19 children and two teachers killed by an 18-year-old gunman on May 24 said the Austin American-Statesman and KVUE-TV displayed insensitivity by releasing the video to the public before those directly affected had a chance to see it. The surveillance video footage published Tuesday — which was then shown and written about by other news organizations — captures the gunman entering the school, and includes audio of shots fired from inside a classroom. It shows police quickly entering the school and then milling about in a hallway for more than an hour before they eventually kill the gunman. The community’s response reflects the raw feelings directed toward reporters who came to Uvalde to probe what happened, and the reality that journalism often steps on toes. The Texas House of Representatives committee...
White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki praised Peter Doocy for having “grace” in a Friday night tweet. She also explained that despite an at times tense relationship between Fox News and the White House, she understands the network’s White House correspondent is simply doing his job. “Full video shows I also told a story about Peter’s grace last night and made very clear I was not being critical of him or any reporter at Fox, and instead was critical of the slant of some Fox topics. He is doing his job. I am doing mine. We debate,” she tweeted just after 9 p.m. ET on Friday. “We disagree. I respect that.” Full video shows I also told a story about Peter’s grace last night and made very clear I was not being critical of him or any reporter at Fox, and instead was critical of the slant of some Fox topics. On July 22, 2020, Gov. Tim Walz implemented a mask mandate. Last Thursday he announced its May 14 end, too soon for some and not soon enough for others. For me the timing was about right. I was one of those people who even wore a mask outside, mainly to signal that I believed in the science behind it. I was also ready to stop wearing it, because if I truly believed in following the science, then being fully vaccinated protected me and others, which had always been the bottom line. I will still wear one in crowded places, as much to protect myself from the common cold as from COVID-19. But I hope I am mostly done with masks. Now the tables have turned. Those of us who worried about getting or giving COVID can pursue life unencumbered. It is the unvaccinated who ought to feel worried. I know some people aren’t vaccinated for reasons other than personal choice, but I am thinking of the young man who set up a table on the lake near my home during...
American politicians tend to paint themselves as being powerful, influential and never vulnerable and such ideas about masculinity could explain people's love for President Donald Trump, study reveals. A team from Penn State University found that Americans who support 'hegemonic masculinity – the notion that men should be strong, tough and dominant – were more likely to have voted for and feel positively about Trump. Researchers believe this stems from US politics being largely dominated by men who push traditional masculinity while campaigning to prove they are competent and skilled. Nathaniel Schermerhorn, who is involved in the study, says that although the American society may be ready for a female president, 'a rejection of hegemonic masculinity may need to happen first.'  Scroll down for video  American politicians tend to paint themselves as being powerful, influential and never vulnerable and such ideas about masculinity could explain people's love for President Donald Trump, study reveals Seven different studies were conducted with a total of 2,007 participants. Getty Dez Bryant Dez Bryant is letting bygones be bygones. Time healed a deep wound for the now-Baltimore Ravens veteran wide receiver, two calendar years after his unceremonious departure from the Dallas Cowboys. “For the most part, it’s water under the bridge,” Bryant told reporters Saturday, via ESPN. “You have to move forward with your life.” Time is also a circle for Bryant, who admitted in 2019 that his messy breakup with Jerry Jones — following eight seasons, over 7,400 receiving yards, and 73 touchdown catches — affected him so deeply, it contributed to the three-time Pro Bowler’s decision to rebuff a post-Cowboys offer from the Ravens, whom he now plays for. “I wasn’t in the right state of mind to even be trying to play football. I didn’t like how my relationship ended with the Dallas Cowboys,” Bryant said on the ThomaHawk Show podcast. “I felt like a lot of things went on in that organization that wasn’t fair. I think it was a lot of political stuff that was going on. I’m the type of guy...
