Google is adding new election features to its voice assistant, Google Search, and Google Maps, to make it easier for US citizens to find voting locations ahead of the election next month. In Google Search, queries like “early voting locations” and “ballot drop boxes near me” will give details about where you can vote in person or return mail-in ballots, while asking the Google Assistant where to vote will “soon” provide relevant information on your phone, speaker, or smart display, Google says. Then, once you’ve found a location, Google says its Maps service can now give you directions to voting or ballot drop box locations, and will provide information about voting hours. Google Maps will provide information on voting hours and locations Information like this is especially important this year given many more voters are expected to use mail-in ballots in light of the pandemic. Google says it has partnered with the Voting Information Project to source the voting location information, and plans to list over 200,000 voting locations nationwide. In cases where this information is not available to...

FEARING "a fraudulent election," President Trump is vowing to send law enforcement officers, US attorneys and attorneys general to monitor voting stations nationwide in November. Trump's remarks were part of a discussion on mail-in ballots, which the president has noted his suspicions about numerous times. During the interview, the president said mail-in voting, which he distinguishes from absentee ballots, will ultimately result in a rigged election. "It's a fraudulent election, everybody knows it. You don't even have to know politics to know it," he said. "Fifty million ballots are going to be indiscriminately sent out to people who didn't even ask for them." "People who just said, 'hey I just got a ballot, that's...

Charity Foundation Says It Will Mount NYC 9/11 Tribute Lights After Scrapped Plans Due to Pandemic FDA warning: Freshouse recalls lemons, limes, oranges and red potatoes for listeria risk Does the US Postal Service Need 31,322 Post Offices? The United States Postal Service (USPS) is in the fight of its life. It is bleeding money. Congressional Democrats have asked for $10 billion for the next year to keep it as a viable operation to serve Americans as it has for two centuries. President Trump has turned that down. One reason is that he does not want to support vote-by-mail options for the upcoming election. That leaves the USPS in a position where it loses some of its logistics capacity. The only option it has, and one which may come too late, is to save money. The USPS needs its 496,934 career workers and 136,174 non-career workers, or almost all of them, to deliver and pick up mail and to run the distribution infrastructure. Carriers are at the heart of the operations. The USPS needs the trucks that support delivery....
The list of U.S. retailers that have filed for bankruptcy during 2020's sharp economic contraction is long and varied. The companies range from those selling inexpensive and off-brand goods to century-old name brands that have catered to the rich and famous.   Lord & Taylor was one of many businesses hit hard by stay-at-home orders spawned by the coronavirus pandemic. Launched in 1824, the department store found in dozens of American shopping malls recently filed for chapter 11 bankruptcy protection. AMC Theaters has detailed its plans to reopen movie theaters throughout the US, in addition to a new deadline for its MoviePass-style A-List subscription, in an email sent to customers on Wednesday. Starting August 20th, AMC plans to have more than 100 theaters open, and it says it will continue opening locations “such that about two-thirds of our theatres across the country should be open no later than September 3.” AMC has repeatedly delayed its reopening as spread of the coronavirus has caused massive spikes in positive cases in parts of the US that have started to ease restrictions. The Trump administration on Thursday rescinded its warnings to Americans against all international travel because of the coronavirus pandemic, saying conditions no longer warrant a blanket worldwide alert. The State Department lifted its level-four health advisory for the entire world in order to return to country-specific warnings. That move came shortly after the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention revised its COVID-19 travel advisory information. The CDC lifted “do not travel” warnings for about 20 locations but advised staying away from the vast majority of the world. “With health and safety conditions improving in some countries and potentially deteriorating in others, the department is returning to our previous system of country-specific levels of travel advice in order to give travelers detailed and actionable information to make informed travel decisions,” the State Department said in a statement. “This will also provide U.S. citizens more detailed information about the current status in each country,” it said. “We continue to recommend U.S. citizens exercise caution when traveling abroad due to the unpredictable nature of the pandemic.” The State Department invoked the blanket warning...
