NASA has published a stunning snap of a sea of dunes rippling across the red planet. The breathtaking view was captured by Nasa’s longest-running Martian probe. 2Nasa’s stunning scene is actually the combination of a number of images that were originally captured more than a decade agoCredit: NASA/JPL-Caltech/ASU The image also shows the icy North Pole of Mars. “A sea of dark dunes, sculpted by the winds into long lines, surrounds Mars’ northern polar cap,” said NASA. The space agency described the dune region as covering an area as big as Texas. “In this false-colour image, areas with cooler temperatures are recorded in bluer tints. “While warmer features and depicted in yellows and oranges. “Thus, the dark, sun-warmed dunes glow with a golden colour.” 2The image was captured by the 2001 Mars OdysseyCredit: NASA/JPL-Caltech/ASU The image itself shows an area roughly 19 miles (30km) wide. NASA created the scene by combining multiple images captured between December 2002 and November 2004. They were snapped by the Thermal Emission Imaging System on the Mars Odyssey orbiter. Nasa’s Mars Odyssey launched on April...
The scandal upending Matt Gaetz’s meteoric rise has spooked some bigwig supporters into looking beyond the Florida Republican, fearing allegations that he paid for sex could prove insurmountable, according to multiple sources. A group of Florida elected officials, donors, strategists, and one former official took stock of Gaetz’s political future Thursday and didn’t like what they saw — even as the embattled lawmaker a day later refused to step down. If he is forced to resign, his western Panhandle seat in Florida’s 1st Congressional District would go to a special election. “They’re making the assessment that it’s going to be very difficult for Matt to come out of this,” said a source familiar with the discussion. “They love the guy, and they’ve been there for him. And they’re shaking their heads going, ‘Ugh.’” Just how long the congressman can weather the increasingly lurid tales remains a subject of backroom speculation in the state capital of Tallahassee and across the Sunshine State. If Gaetz eventually steps down, the Tallahassee group that talked on Thursday has zeroed in on two potential...
The former director of the CDC, Robert Redfield, says he believes COVID-19 'escaped' from a lab in Wuhan and may have been circling in the US since as early as September 2019. Redfield made the claims in a CNN interview on Friday but stressed it was his 'opinion'. 'Best guess is this virus started transmitting in September/October in Wuhan. That's my view... I'm allowed to have opinions,' Redfield said.  'I'm of the point of view that I still think the most likely ideology of this pathogen in Wuhan was from a laboratory, you know escaped. Other people don't believe that, that's fine. Science will eventually figure it out. 'It's not unusual for respiratory pathogens that are being worked on in laboratories to infect the laboratory worker. 'That's not implying any intentionality. It's my opinion, right? But I am a virologist. I have spent my life in virology.'  The former director of the CDC , Robert Redfield, says he believes COVID-19 'escaped' from a lab in Wuhan and may have been circling in the US since September 2019
Species of turtle, shark, penguin, seal and whale swim in circles, new research shows – but scientists aren't sure why.  Japanese researchers examined high-resolution 3D movements of the various marine animals, gathered from biologging technology.  Biologging uses using small instruments mounted on an animal to track their movements over long periods of time.  They revealed circling 'events' where animals consecutively circled more than twice at 'relatively constant angular speed'.  This finding is surprising in part because swimming in a straight line is the most efficient way to move about.   At first glance the behaviour may appear random, but it could serve several similar purposes, including foraging, social interactions, and navigation.   This artist's impression shows the circling behaviour of various large marine creatures WHAT IS BIOLOGGING? Biologging is the practice of logging and relaying of physical and biological data using animal-attached tags.  They track movements of large ocean-dwelling animals.  Biologging technologies have become available within the last couple of decades and are advancing rapidly.  Animal-attached tags are being applied to a wide range of animals.  In marine environments, it is otherwise...
Oath Keepers founder Stewart Rhodes may be looking over his shoulder for the next few weeks. Stewart Rhodes, the founder/president of the Oath Keepers, could be forgiven if he spends a lot of time looking over his shoulder this week. It’s become clear, after all, that federal prosecutors are circling around his organization and Rhodes’ role in members’ participation in the Jan. 6 insurrection at the U.S. Capitol. Federal agents arrested two more Oath Keepers—both of whom provided security for Roger Stone, an ex-adviser to Donald Trump, on the morning of the attack—this week for their involvement in the assault on the Capitol, bringing the total of group members arrested for participation to 11. Meanwhile, prosecutors also filed documents in one of those cases indicating that Rhodes, who was present at the Capitol but did not go inside, was in direct contact with some of the people arrested. The document, filed Monday in the case of Oath Keeper Thomas Caldwell—who coordinated with militia members Jessica Watkins and Donovan Crowl, according to prosecutors, to create a “stack” formation that played a...
Former White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany has taken a swipe at her successor for being out of the loop with Joe Biden when taking questions.  McEnany reacted to a 'Fox & Friends' montage of Jen Psaki telling various reporters that she would 'circle back' on their questions during her six weeks with the Biden administration.  The former press secretary said she would always know where former President Donald Trump stood on an issue due to the 'hours and hours' of research that went in beforehand.  McEnany served as the 33rd White House press secretary for the Trump administration from April 2020 to January 2021.  She has since joined Fox News as a political commentator.  Former White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany (pictured) has criticized her successor for being out of the loop when taking questions Speaking during an interview with Fox News, she said: 'I wish Jen Psaki all the best, it is a very hard job but that being said, we took great pains in our administration to do hours and hours of research beforehand, days sometimes.' She suggested...
Former White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany on Thursday knocked current press secretary Jen Psaki’s job performance during the daily White House press briefings. McEnany appeared on Fox News’ “Fox & Friends” and discussed her time as press secretary and how she handled the briefings compared to Psaki. Host Brian Kilmeade began by noting press secretaries always have “big binders” in front of them during the press briefings, but that McEnany had answers to reporters’ questions “almost every single time” and knew where reporters were going with their questions. He then played a montage of video clips of Psaki not answering questions by saying she would “circle back,” or referring the reporter who asked the question to the department it pertained to. (RELATED: ‘I Hate To Disappoint Conservative Twitter’: Jen Psaki Continues To ‘Circle Back’ To Unanswered Press Questions) “You can’t anticipate every question, but is that acceptable?” Kilmeade said, laughing, after playing the video. “It’s like you’re a crossing guard.” “I’ve said before, and I mean it, I wish Jen Psaki all the best. It’s a very...
Nick Loeb’s ‘Roe v. Wade’ Actors Call Foul Over No-Show Paychecks South by Southwest Fast Facts Manny Pacquiao might be circling back to the matchup many believe makes most sense for him from a competitive standpoint. © Provided by Boxing Junkie The 42-year-old Filipino icon, coming off a decision over Keith Thurman in July 2019, was negotiating to face MMA star Conor McGregor but that fight fell out after McGregor lost in the octagon. Then there was talk he might meet lightweight Ryan Garcia but that never materialized. Now he seems to be re-focused on an earlier candidate, Mikey Garcia. Garcia told television interviewer Jo Ankier in an informal interview after the Canelo Alvarez-Avni Yildirim fight Saturday that he and Pacquiao are near a deal to fight in May, although neither Pacquiao nor a credible representative has confirmed Garcia’s comments. “We’re finalizing all of the details,” Garcia told Ankier. “We hope to get the exact date and location in the next few days. We’re trying to get everything done for May. It’s been in the works for a long...

A former Seattle business owner who moved away after 40 years said on Wednesday that the liberal city is on a downward spiral. Joey Rodolfo, a clothing designer and co-founder of Buki clothing, told "Fox & Friends" that he was back in the city recently and believes the governor and mayor have failed to address protests and riots by Black Lives Matter and Antifa, including this past weekend. "There's no consequences. And we have a city attorney that turns his back on business people and lets these people just run wild in the city and destroy property. Seattle, unfortunately, is circling the drain as we speak." ANTIFA BLOCKS SEATTLE POLICE FROM RESPONDING TO EMERGENCIES WITH SNOW BARRIER Meanwhile, a video posted to Instagram on Saturday evening by user 'standwithseattlepd' shows a snow barrier built by protesters outside of the Seattle Police Department's East Precinct. VideoIn the video, a police vehicle is seen rolling backwards after attempting to drive over the barrier. "Antifa goons blocked the exit of the East Precinct with a pile of snow tonight, in an effort to stop vehicles from responding to emergency calls," the user claimed in...

2020 wasnt just a random bad year, health experts say: COVID-19 made it one of the deadliest in US history Washington-area Republicans Bob Good, Andy Harris skip inauguration Report: Braves circling market on star catcher J.T. Realmuto As potential suitors for J.T. Realmuto continue to dwindle, FanSided’s Robert Murray tweets that the Braves are “circling” on the free-agent catcher, adding that some clubs on the West Coast also remain interested in the All-Star. © Sam Navarro-USA TODAY Sports J.T. Realmuto It’s a surprise to see the Braves linked to Realmuto for a number of reasons. Atlanta already has veteran Travis d’Arnaud signed for $8M in 2021, and he’s coming off a .273/.336/.465 showing across the past two seasons. Beyond that, Realmuto has been seeking the exact type of long-term contract that Braves general manager Alex Anthopoulos has eschewed since taking the reins in Atlanta. The Braves waited out Dallas Keuchel’s market to get a one-year deal and opted not to come close to the Twins’ four-year offer when endeavoring to retain Josh Donaldson. They inked Cole Hamels on a...
AMC Entertainment is being circled by a trio of investment firms including Apollo Global Management as the movie-theater chain scrambles to stay afloat amid the pandemic, The Post has learned. Apollo, which along with Canyon Capital Advisors and Davidson Kempner Capital Management are holders of AMC’s first-lien debt, are urging the company to file for Chapter 11 bankruptcy and have offered $1 billion in debtor-in-possession financing, according to sources close to the situation. AMC’s embattled chief executive Adam Aron is resisting Apollo’s overture and looking to buy time. On Friday, the company instead announced it has reached a deal to borrow $100 million in senior loans from Mudrick Capital Management at a 15-percent interest rate. “Adam Aron is trying to figure...

In an attempt to try and get some last-minute votes for Joe Biden, a plane in Philadelphia is trying to connect Donald Trump and Jerry Jones with a hilarious banner.  The 2020 Election Day is officially here with both Donald Trump and Joe Biden supporters doing everything possible to try and get fellow Americans to join them in voting for their favorite candidate. However, perhaps no one has been more creative, or funny for that matter, than the folks in Philadelphia who are all aboard the Biden train, or plane, in this case. In the City of Brotherly Love, there’s actually a small plane flying around showcasing a banner says Donald Trump loves Jerry Jones and the Cowboys. For all the Philadelphia Eagles fans out there, perhaps the decision to vote for Biden has now been made for them. This plane is currently circling Philadelphia with a banner that says "TRUMP
IT all started with a panicked “please send immediate help” cry from a ship’s captain. Others stealthily climbed on board from rigid inflatable boats using grappling irons. Snipers were circling above in a Wildcat helicopter to provide assistance to the raiding crew who sprang into action after getting the green light from Westminster. But what took just a matter of moments started some 11 hours earlier when a dramatic mayday call was issued by the ship's captain. Prime Minister Boris Johnson would have been contacted “immediately” after the captain begged for assistance at...
He wasn’t the only one going kayak fishing. An Australian fisherman nearly had the tables turned on him after a monstrous shark began circling his kayak Saturday, as seen in nail-biting video from 9News Sydney. “I did think that I was probably going to die,” said Matthew Smith of the harrowing incident, which occurred around a mile from Black Head Beach in New South Wales while he was fishing for snapper. In a clip shot by Smith, the dorsal fin of the 13-foot-long great white shark can be seen cutting past his craft while the terrified kayaker yells, “Holy s - - t! No! No, f - - k off!” “I just looked next to me and the shark was just gliding past, looking straight at me,” Smith told 9News of nearly becoming a kayak snack. The ordeal was also captured via an aerial drone operated by his friend, Nick O’Brien, who said he “started worrying, thinking, ‘Oh, hopefully this goes alright.’ ” Indeed, bird’s-eye footage shows the plus-sized predator circling the similar-sized lime-green watercraft before turning sharply and swimming toward the vessel. The quick-thinking Smith...
Like Jormungandr It orbits the earth, as well as the whole galaxy. About 200,000 light-years away, a large, high-velocity gas galaxy is encircled. We know where it is coming from, more or less. It is very closely associated with large and small macelanic clouds, orbiting dwarf galaxies and eventually being cannibalized by the Milky Way. It gives the cosmic serpent its name – the Magellanic Stream. However, although chemically Magellanic Stream is compatible with Magellanic clouds, there is one feature that confuses astronomers in many ways – its mass. That stream contains gas worth about a billion solar masses, and models cannot explain why two satellite galaxies lose so much. “That is why,” Astronomer Elena de Ongia explained The University of Wisconsin-Madison said, “We came up with a new solution that was great at explaining the mass of the stream.” According to their new model, the gas does not come within the megalonic clouds. Conversely, it is ejected from their galaxies – large clouds of gas and plasma covering most galaxies. All-weather view of the Magellanic Stream. (D. Nidever et...
WOODLAND (CBS13) — Officers say an early morning shooting left a man hurt in Woodland over the weekend. Woodland police say officers were first called to the area of Bourn and Paradise Valley drives just before 2:30 a.m. Sunday after getting several reports of gunshots heard in the area. (Credit: Woodland Police Department) A man with a gunshot wound was soon discovered in a front parking lot along East Street. Officers started first aid and medics soon rushed him to the hospital. During their investigation at the Bourn Drive scene, police say a vehicle circled through the area several times. Officers went to pull the car over, but the driver instead hit the gas. However, the car eventually was stopped and two West Sacramento residents were arrested. Detectives are still looking into whether that pair had any connection to the shooting. No weapon was located after the arrest, police say. The man shot appeared to have suffered non-life-threatening...
Edgar Roman, 25, is charged with the murder of Arizona woman Zoraleigh Ryan, 55, after he crashed into her twice while she crossed the street Monday in Chicago Chicago police charged an SUV driver with murder Monday after he allegedly struck a 55-year-old grandmother, then looped around the block to deliberately crash into her for a second time, killing her.  Arizona woman Zoraleigh Ryan was visiting Chicago with her daughter Shannon, 20, when they were both hit by a manic driver as they crossed the street in the city's North Side. Ryan was killed when the driver made a crazed second attempt to plow into her, her daughter and a third bystander and she was dragged for half a block under the vehicle.   Edgar Roman, 25, turned himself in as the person behind the wheel in the deranged and random attack that some local authorities have claimed was linked to the recent looting in Chicago.   Roman initially claimed, after turning himself in at the 17th District police station, that he had been carjacked by two black men at Dearborn and...
Fox News host Tucker Carlson said voters shouldn't expect Sen. Kamala Harris to be anything less than a media darling ahead of November. Harris, who was chosen as former Vice President Joe Biden's running mate on Tuesday, made history becoming the first black woman to be on a national presidential ticket. Her identity, which once might have produced barriers to success, has become a shield from criticism in the age of cancel culture, Carlson said. "America is indeed ready for a black president," Carlson said. "We elected one twice. But is America ready for a shallow, hectoring, rich lady whose only real fans work at hedge funds and MSNBC? That’s the real question here, but don’t expect anyone in authority to ask it. Instead, expect more lying, more propaganda." After Harris was announced as Biden's running mate, Carlson said early on that he believed she would be immune to criticism. Within a day, he said, his point has been proven right, giving examples of the media celebrating the California Democrat's candidacy. He pointed to CNN head Jeff Zucker...

The Atlantic White Shark Conservancy identified the shark on Sunday. “Absolutely beautiful pictures!” the group tweeted.

Jude Law may be heading to Neverland. The actor is in talks to play the classic Disney villain, Captain Hook, in the studio’s live-action Peter Pan film “Peter Pan & Wendy,” sources tell Variety. “Pete’s Dragon” director David Lowery is on board to direct the project. Lowery co-wrote the script with Toby Halbrooks, and Jim Whitaker is producing. Disney’s 1953 animated classic is still the most successful adaptation of the J.M. Barrie novel about Peter Pan, the boy who wouldn’t age and the children whom he whisks away to the magical world of Neverland. Many other studios have made their own versions on the big and small screens, including Steven Spielberg’s “Hook” starring Robin Williams and Joe Wright’s “Pan,” both of which disappointed at the box office. If the deal closes, Law would follow in the footsteps of Dustin Hoffman, Jason Isaacs and, most recently, Garrett Hedlund as actors who have played the iconic pirate antagonist in previous retellings of the story. Sources say the release is expected to be theatrical and not go the Disney Plus streaming route. Disney...
FBI agents preparing to storm the New Hampshire hideout of Ghislaine Maxwell, the former girlfriend of Jeffrey Epstein and alleged madam, nearly blew the entire $4.9million covert operation after a neighbor complained about planes circling overhead.  Maxwell was taken into custody in Bradford, a small town in New Hampshire, on Thursday morning. Special Agent William Sweeney said at a press conference later that the FBI after 'discreetly keeping tabs' on her for some time and that she recently moved to the property.   But as agents prepared to move in on Maxwell, a neighbor approached a convoy of vehicles parked nearby.  One resident of the area told the Mirror: 'The planes had been buzzing around since 5am. They were a nuisance. We began calling each other to find out what the noise was about. Finally one snapped and drove down to where the vehicles were lined up. 'He demanded to know who they were and they replied they were from the New England Aerial map society – it was totally fictitious. The problem the FBI had was that the guy is an...
