(AP) — A Vermont man was sentenced Monday to 22 1/2 years in prison for charges stemming from what prosecutors described as a violent sex and drug trafficking operation in the Burlington area. Brian Folks was sentenced Monday in U.S. District Court in Burlington. During the trial, prosecutors said that in addition to the drug trafficking operation that sold heroin and cocaine base, Folks forced forced young, drug-addicted women to serve as prostitutes. Prosecutors say Folks manipulated his victims' addictions. He also beat his victims, often in front of other victims. Four victims testified during Folks' May 2019 trial.     LATHROP (CBS13) — A week-long mission against sex crimes in San Joaquin County has resulted in the arrest of 50 people, authorities say. It was one of the biggest operations against sex crimes in the county, the sheriff’s office says. The San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Office, with the help of Lathrop Police services, conducted a five-day Sex Crime Operation targeting suspected predators, pimps and people soliciting sex. In total, 50 people were arrested over the week-long operation. Deputies say 17 men were arrested on suspicion of looking for sexual acts with a child while another 16 people were arrested on charges of soliciting for sex. Three others were arrested for pimping or pandering, while two others had warrants. One person was also arrested on human trafficking charges.     MIAMI (CBSMiami) – A Georgia man accused of sex trafficking a 17-year-old girl in South Florida when it hosted Super Bowl LIV has been arrested. In January, Miami Beach detectives conducted an undercover operation designed to identify and assist juvenile and adult victims of human trafficking. As a part of the operation, detectives looked through online escort postings offering “out-calls” in the Miami and Miami Beach area. The term “out-call” refers to “dates” in which an escort or prostitute travels to meet a client. That’s when Anthony Carter, 28, and the teen, both from Georgia, caught their attention. According to the Miami-Dade State Attorney’s Office, both appeared to have come to Miami Beach in connection with events related to the Super Bowl 54.     Authorities in the US Virgin Islands have launched their own probe into Ghislaine Maxwell's alleged involvement in Jeffrey Epstein's sex trafficking ring.   The Caribbean island territory's Department of Justice announced its investigation into Epstein's alleged madam in a court filing on Friday which seeks to intervene in a lawsuit she filed against the financier's estate.   Maxwell, who is already facing six charges in New York, sued Epstein's estate through a court in the Virgin Islands earlier this year to obtain reimbursement for legal fees she was incurring from suits brought by his alleged victims, claiming that Epstein had repeatedly promised to support her financially.   Prosecutors in the Virgin Islands are now using the case to subpoena Maxwell as part of its investigation into her 'participation in Epstein's criminal sex trafficking and sexual abuse conduct'. The man allegedly exchanged drugs obtained in Columbus and elsewhere for sexual access to the children of drug-addicted mothers. According to court documents unsealed today (June 24, 2020), agents with the FBI’s Child Exploitation Task Force began investigating Larry Dean Porter, 69, of Wheelersburg, Ohio, in April 2019 following reports from several sources that Porter was involved in sexually abusing male and female minors with consent of the minors’ parents in exchange for illegal drugs from Porter. In March 2020, Porter was arrested on local charges during a human trafficking sting operation by the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office.
