    New York (CNN)Dick's Sporting Goods CEO Ed Stack is stepping down after 36 years, a tenure in which he transformed his family's small business into a national presence, took the company public and enacted a strong stance on the US gun debate.Stack, 65 years old, will take on the role of executive chairman and continue as chief merchant, the company announced Tuesday. Dick's (DKS) President Lauren Hobart will ascend to the CEO role on February 1, becoming the company's first female chief executive.Stack's father founded the company in 1948, and Stack has served as chairman and CEO of Dick's since 1984, when he and his siblings bought his father's two small sporting goods stores in upstate New York. Stack, 65, will transition to executive chairman and remain chief merchant, the company said in a news release. He took over the business from his dad in 1984, when he was then 29 years old.     A Northern Westchester teen has been arrested for allegedly stealing more than $1,000 in goods from an area sporting goods store. Yorktown Police arrested a 17-year-old Cortlandt Manor teen after responding to a report of past larceny at Dick's Sporting Goods at the Jefferson Valley Mall in Yorktown, said the Yorktown Police. An investigation found the teen allegedly made six fraudulent returns while employed at Dick's, depriving the store of a total of $1,57.22, the police said.  The teen was contacted on Tuesday, Nov. 10, and he voluntarily turned himself in to the police.  He was charged with grand larceny and released on his own recognizance. The teen is scheduled to appear in youth court on Thursday, Nov. 19.

    Dick's Sporting Goods is hiring as many as 9,000 workers for the holidays, upping its seasonal workforce by more than 1,000 from last year, the retailer said on Thursday. The Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania-based sporting goods retailer is looking to bulk up staff and service at its 726 stores across the country as well as at its nationwide distribution centers as online sales play a greater role at Dick's and its competitors.  While the ongoing pandemic has curbed the usual number of people shopping in person, the company indicated it is expecting a surge in online sales to continue through the holiday season.  Get Breaking News Delivered to Your Inbox Dick's online sales jumped 194% during the second quarter, including curbside pickup, purchases online, pickup in stores and shipping from stores, the retailer said.     PITTSBURGH (AP) – At home workouts and outdoor athletic activities are shaping up to be good business for Dick’s Sporting Goods. The retailer’s second-quarter results easily beat Wall Street’s expectations as consumers continue to focus on health and wellness while stuck at home amid the coronavirus pandemic. While many consumers are concentrating on traditional exercise equipment during quarantine, Dick’s merchandise lends itself to various stay-at-home and socially distant activities. The retailer’s stores are full of items for boating, golfing and climbing. “The majority of our assortment sits squarely at the center of these trends, and while mindful of the uncertainty in the current environment, we are in a great lane right now,” Chairman and CEO Edward Stack said in a statement on Wednesday. For the quarter, Dick’s earned $276.8 million, or $3.12 per share. Stripping out one-time costs, the Coraopolis, Pennsylvania-based company earned $3.21 per share.     PITTSBURGH (KDKA) — DICK’s Sporting Goods announced that its all stores and distribution centers will be closed on Thanksgiving this year. The company made the announcement on Monday. The company added the closure will also affect specialty stores Golf Galaxy and Field & Stream. The company says while they have had limited hours on Thanksgivings of previous years, its locations were still open. All DICK’s Sporting Goods locations will operate with standard business hours on Wednesday, November 25. Information about other holiday hours, including on Black Friday, will reportedly be released at a later date. Additionally, DICK’s Sporting Goods employees will be receiving a 15% pay premium through the end of 2020. “We are so thankful to our teammates for their hard work and dedication,” said Ed Stack, Chairman and CEO. “They have navigated this year with strength, commitment and care for each other and for our customers. Fitzgerald is very active in both the business and sports charity community. The Pittsburgh-based company says Fitzgerald joined their foundation’s Sports Matter Advisory Board in 2018.
