CARDIFF, Wales (AP) — Wales secured a seeded spot in the World Cup playoffs on Tuesday by holding Belgium to a 1-1 draw after rallying from a goal down in their final qualifier in Group E. Wales was guaranteed a playoff spot in March before kickoff through its Nations League results and the draw guaranteed that Rob Page’s players will get a home draw in the playoff semifinals in March. Unbeaten in the group, Belgium secured the top spot and direct qualification last weekend with a 3-1 win over Estonia. The Czech Republic beat Estonia 2-0 on Tuesday in the group’s other match and finished third, one point behind Wales. Kieffer Moore scored Wales’ first-half equalizer after Kevin de Bruyne gave Belgium the lead. The 12-team playoffs will decide who joins the 10 European qualifying group winners at the tournament. The playoff draw will include runners-up in the 10 groups plus two group winners from the UEFA Nations League. De Bruyne captained a Belgium team deprived of many regular starters featuring just five players from the side that defeated Estonia....
GARETH BALE has been ruled out of Wales’ crunch World Cup qualifier with Belgium. The Real Madrid superstar played 45 mins against Belarus on Saturday to win his 100th cap following a two-month hamstring layoff. Rex 1 Bale will miss tonight’s World Cup clash against Belgium But Uefa released Wales’ 23-man squad for tonight’s Cardiff showdown on their website on Tuesday morning and Bale – as well as Mark Harris and the suspended Ethan Ampadu – were not included. Wales boss Robert Page claimed captain Bale was never going to be fit to start both qualifiers. But the fact he has not even been included in the squad is a blow for the Dragons. Wales need a point to finish second in Group E and win a home play-off semi-final above Poland. An away tie could see Bale and co face the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo’s Portugal and Euro 2020 champions Italy. Without Bale, Cardiff striker Kieffer Moore is expected to lead the line after a one-match ban. Most read in Football UNITED LATEST Eight players MISLED by Solskjaer,...

However the hope is Bale will take his place on the bench as his country go in search of the point they need to secure second place in the group. Ideally Wales could do with winning the game to ensure a home draw in the play-offs in March – and to avoid the likes of Portugal. Page said: “Gareth is going to be stiff, he’s not played at any level for a couple of months, so to throw him in on Saturday...

WALES welcome New Zealand to Cardiff this weekend for an Autumn International at the Principality Stadium. Wayne Pivac's side are back in action for the first time since two hard-fought games against Argentina in July. 2Biggar was on tour with the British and Irish Lions in South Africa earlier this yearCredit: Sportsfile The All Blacks meanwhile racked up a mammoth 104 POINTS against the USA last time out and are big favourites to win in the Welsh capital. Why isn't Dan Biggar playing against New Zealand? You may have noticed that Dan Biggar is not amongst the squad for New Zealand's visit on Saturday. And he joins a host of names unavailable to Pivac as he prepares his side to face the dominant force in world rugby. (CNN)In the wake of the Colonial Pipeline and JBS ransomware attacks in recent months, the head of the nation's leading cybersecurity agency says these events are a harbinger of what's to come on the cyber front and there needs to be a greater focus on shoring up the defenses of America's most important assets."Both of those incidents highlight the actual real world consequences of cyber incidents, targeting our critical infrastructure. And while today those attacks have impacted Americans at the gas pump and at the supermarkets, our concern is where could this go next," Brandon Wales, the current acting director of the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency, told CNN's Pamela Brown in an interview. While attacks like the ones on JBS and Colonial Pipeline are not new, they have increased in recent years, according to Wales, and they're bolder than ever -- leading criminal attackers to look for bigger targets for more ransom money, including targets that have real world consequences."We are concerned about where this could go in the future," Wales said. "I think our concern is that more targeting...

New York : After the absences of Raúl Jimémez, Alan Pulido and Henry Martín for Mexico’s commitment to Wales, the ‘Chucky’ Lozano will be in charge of fulfilling the role of ‘9’ for those directed by ‘Tata’ Martino. With the injury withdrawal of Christian Pulisic, the USMNT will be without its best player for the team’s second game of 2020. However, while Pulisic’s absence will remove one key puzzle piece from Gregg Berhalter’s starting XI, this squad still represents the closest thing to an American A-Team that we’ve seen in quite some time. The U.S. will take on Wales on Thursday in the team’s first match since February’s win over Costa Rica but, for virtually every member of this squad, this gathering is their first in almost exactly a year. Of the players in the squad, only Sebastian Lletget, Reggie Cannon and Uly Llanez have earned caps in 2020, with this team of European-based stars gathering for the first time since November 2019. Weston McKennie is here, having moved to Juventus this summer. So too is Sergino Dest, now a Barcelona regular. Tyler Adams is back for the first time in over a year-and-a-half, and now a Champions League quarter-final...

And it is understood caretaker boss Robert Page will take no chances on Bale in Thursday’s game in Swansea ahead of two crunch Nations League clashes. Wales take on the Republic of Ireland and Finland later in the international break. Bale was making his first Premier League start at the Hawthorns since returning to Spurs on loan from Real Madrid. Tottenham boss Jose Mourinho called on Wales not to ‘destroy’ the work the North Londoners have done to improve Bale’s fitness after he missed pre-season and then battled back from a knee injury. But stand-in chief Page has one eye...
LISBON, Portugal — Portugal and Hungary on Monday became the latest European countries to impose curfews against the resurgent tide of coronavirus infections and deaths lashing the continent and filing its emergency wards. But glimmers of hope emerged from France, Belgium and elsewhere that tough restrictions might be starting to work. Portugal, which like other European countries has seen new cases and hospital admissions surge in recent weeks, imposed a state of emergency and ordered some 7 million people — around 70% of its population — to stay home on weeknights from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. for at least the next two weeks. They'll be even more limited over the weekends, allowed out only in the morning until 1 p.m., unless to buy essentials at supermarkets. "People need to comply. If they don’t, we are in a bad situation," said Miriam Ferreira, a 44-year-old laundry worker in Lisbon. ENGLAND take on Wales on Thursday night with Gareth Southgate set to ring the changes. The Three Lions take on Ryan Giggs' side ahead of a Nations League double-header against Belgium and Denmark. 2How England could line-up in an experimental XI vs Wales Southgate will see the game against a Gareth Bale-less Wales as a chance to give a host of squad players a chance. But three players certain to miss out are Ben Chilwell, Jadon Sancho and Tammy Abraham. The England trio were spotted at a party of around 20 people at the weekend just hours before reporting for international duty, putting their fellow squad members at risk. Southgate and captain Harry Kane have since urged England stars to stop bringing shame on the team - after Phil Foden and Mason Greenwood were dropped for inviting women to their hotel rooms in Iceland. Chilwell's absence opens the door for Bukayo Saka to make his international debut at left-back. The flying winger, 19, has thrived in a deeper role for Arsenal and is likely to get the nod - at...
