In 2017, Shelia Keen-Warren was charged with the murder of Marlene Warren, but her defense team says the evidence is not nearly strong enough to support holding her in jail without bail for over three years. Her lawyers say three of the four witnesses of the crime told investigators that the clown was at least 6 feet tall and a man, but Keen-Warren is 5-foot-7 and is a woman. SAN FRANCISCO — The California Supreme Court on Monday upheld the death sentence for a man convicted of raping and strangling 10 women in Los Angeles. However, the court reversed his conviction for the death of one victim’s fetus. Chester Dewayne Turner, a 54-year-old one-time pizza deliveryman, was convicted in 2007 of first-degree murder for killing the women over the course of more than a decade in the 1980s and 1990s. Most victims were vulnerable women who were homeless, drug users or prostitutes, prosecutors said. Turner also was convicted of second-degree murder in the death of the female fetus of a woman who was about 6 1/2 months pregnant. SACRAMENTO (CBS13) — Guilty on all counts. The NorCal Rapist, 60-year-old Roy Waller, faces life in prison for a 15-year string of crimes which included rape and kidnapping. It took the jury about two and a half hours to hand down the conviction. “That was the reason why, DNA doesn’t lie,” said Michael H., who was juror number 7. Waller remained expressionless in court as each verdict for 46 charges was read out-loud Wednesday morning. Michael said he had little doubt that Waller was guilty from the beginning. “It’s just terrible the way he prowled on those young ladies,” he said. Prosecutors say every assault had the same premise, women tied to a bed for hours with their eyes taped shut, the suspect stealing personal items or ATM cards on the way out. In court, Waller was painted as a stealth criminal who kept a list of women that he would grade on their appearance until he could slip into their homes and attack them. His crimes, including rapes and kidnappings, spanned across Northern Californiaa cities from Chico to Sacramento....
Convicted killer Scott Peterson will remain in California’s San Quentin State Prison as a judge weighs whether or not he’ll get a retrial in connection with the 2004 murders of his pregnant wife and their unborn son. There was a chance the judge could have sent him to the San Mateo County Jail to make it easier for his attorneys to meet with him. But Peterson’s lawyer Pat Harris said Thursday that San Quentin was a better place to hold him because of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. “It is a better situation than what would occur in San Mateo,” Harris said, while leaving open the possibility that Peterson’s team would seek to have him moved “down the line.” FILE - This May 11, 2018 photo from the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation shows Scott Peterson. The U.S. government put convicted rapist and murderer William LeCroy to death by lethal injection on Tuesday, the sixth federal execution this summer after a lengthy hiatus in capital punishment at the national level. LeCroy, 50, was pronounced dead at 9:06 p.m. EDT after officials with the U.S. Bureau of Prisons administered him a fatal dose of the barbiturate pentobarbital at the bureaus execution chamber in Terre Haute, Indiana, an agency spokeswoman said. The execution came shortly after the U.S. Supreme Court denied an 11th-hour petition seeking a stay until LeCroys principal lawyer, who suffers from a chronic health condition, could travel safely to Terre Haute without fear of contracting COVID-19. It marked the sixth death sentence the U.S. government has carried out during the past three months, more than the total number of federal executions carried out under all of President Donald Trumps White House predecessors combined going back to 1963. Another execution was planned for Thursday, when Christopher Vialva, a convicted murderer, is set to become the first Black man to face the federal death penalty under Trump,...
The Christchurch mosque hero who hurled a card machine at Brenton Tarrant before chasing him down the street has faced the 'coward' again in court. Tarrant gunned down 51 Muslim worshipers in New Zealand's worst mass shooting on March 15 last year.  Abdul Aziz Wahabzadah, an Afghani-born Australian citizen, rushed towards Tarrant as he fired on innocent men, women and children at the Linwood Islamic Centre. Moments earlier, Tarrant had massacred more than 40 people at the nearby Al Noor mosque.  The 29-year-old mass murderer has sat in the Christchurch High Court dock for three days, hearing 91 statements from victims, while offering little emotion. Delivering his victim impact statement on Wednesday, Mr Wahabzadah looked Tarrant in the eyes and said: 'You know the face ... the one who chase you out.' WELLINGTON (Reuters) - One of the heroes of the Christchurch terror attack confronted gunman Brenton Tarrant on the third day of sentencing hearings on Wednesday, telling him: "You should thank God on that day I didn't catch you". "You know this face. The one who chased you out," Abdul Aziz Wahabzadah told Tarrant, who is facing a life sentence without parole for his killing spree. The Australian father-of-four told the court how he offered himself as a target to protect worshippers inside a mosque where Tarrant had opened fire without warning. In all, 51 people were killed in the attack on two mosques in the New Zealand city of Christchurch on March 15 last year. "I ducked in between the cars. My two sons were looking from the side of the mosque. That coward kept shooting at me. They said 'Daddy please come inside'. I told them you go inside I will be alright," Aziz told the court. "I called that coward. 'You are looking for me, I am here!' I didn't want him to go inside the mosque because...
