Mickey Callaway has lost yet another managing job in baseball. The disgraced former MLB manager and pitching coach was fired from his job as skipper of the Mexican League team Acereros de Monclova. “The results force us to make moves in order to have a season that lives up to the expectations of our fans,” the team said in a statement on Monday. “We want to reiterate our absolute respect and admiration for Mr. Mickey Callaway, who we wish much success in his future baseball projects.” Under Callaway the team went 16-17 and is fifth in its division. Callaway was fired as the Mets manager in 2019 after two seasons in which the team went 163-161. The Mets finished fourth in the NL East his first year and had a winning season his second year, but failed to make the playoffs. He was terminated before he could complete the three-year contract he signed. He was fired again as the Angels pitching coach in 2021 and put on MLB’s ineligible list through the end of the 2022 season for allegations of...
San Francisco Giants manager Gabe Kapler has said he will stay in the team's clubhouse during the Star-Spangled Banner due to his displeasure 'with the direction of the country.' Kapler - the reigning National League Manager of the Year - announced the national anthem boycott while speaking to the press on Friday, and also on his blog, KapLifestyle.  'When I was the same age as the children in Uvalde, my father taught me to stand for the pledge of allegiance when I believed my country was representing its people well or to protest and stay seated when it wasn’t. I don’t believe it is representing us well right now,' Kapler wrote.  The Giants manager says the idea first came to him on Tuesday night when James Hetfield and Kirk Hammett from Metallica performed the anthem before their game against the New York Mets.  'On Wednesday, I walked out onto the field, I listened to the announcement as we honored the victims in Uvalde. I bowed my head. I stood for the national anthem. Metallica riffed on City Connect guitars,' he...
STEVEN GERRARD could finally play a part in a “fantastic” Liverpool title success. So it is hardly a surprise the Aston Villa manager has been bombarded with phone calls from friends and family urging him to engineer the destruction of Manchester City at the Etihad on Sunday. 2Aston Villa manager Steven Gerrard could hand Liverpool the Premier League titleCredit: Getty Gerrard, 41, who spent 17 years as a player at Anfield, knows a good result for Villa at City could clear the path for his former club. As he spoke about the championship D-day, Gerrard kept insisting the overwhelming priority is Villa and to end the season on a high. But no-one really believed him. To beat or draw with City - so potentially handing the title to Liverpool - would surely be the most satisfying moment of his managerial career regardless of what he achieved at Rangers. Equally, Gerrard is still annoyed with those who felt he would field a weakened team against Burnley, something he did not do in the 1-1 draw on Thursday. Read More on FootballTransfer...

After Arsenal were knocked back in their public pursuit of the player, Arteta has commented on future incomings in North London. Speaking in his pre-match press conference ahead of Thursday night's clash against Wolves, the Spaniard was asked about whether quality players will want to play for the club given what happened with Vlahovic. LIVERPOOL, England (AP) — Lucas Digne marked his swift return to Goodison Park by setting up Aston Villa’s goal in a 1-0 victory over former club Everton in the Premier League and getting struck on the head by a bottle thrown from the crowd in the ensuing celebrations. The France left back, who was sold by Everton last week after falling out with its then-manager Rafa Benitez, whipped in the corner which was met by a near-post header from Emi Buendia that looped into the far corner in first-half stoppage time. As Digne celebrated with his Villa teammates in front of a section of Everton fans, he appeared to be hit by a bottle and fell to the ground, clutching his head. Another Villa player, Matty Cash, also motioned that he had been struck. Digne’s return to the club he said he never wanted to leave was one of the many intriguing subplots to a match that saw Duncan Ferguson take charge of the first match in his second spell as Everton’s caretaker manager, following Benitez’s firing last weekend. Second-bottom Bordeaux's squad strength and fighting spirit looked feeble as they lost 6-0 at Rennes on Sunday after having Issouf Sissokho sent off. Covid has robbed them of key men, while ex-Gunners defender Laurent Koscielny could depart this month. Koscielny is one of six early-season regulars not currently training with the first-team. And Lopez's bright new dawn has quickly faded, although the new Matmut Atlantique stadium is one of France's finest football venues. The maskless suspect entered the legendary pizza restaurant in the North End about 9 p.m. Sunday night and was stopped at the entrance, according to Boston Police. The suspect pushed his way in, then pushed the victim, a male store general manager, against the register before getting off a punch to the employee’s left side of the face, police reported. The suspect, a white male believed to be in his mid-20s, fled down the street and has not yet been apprehended, but Boston Police are investigating. The victim told police that the suspect “stated that he was from the neighborhood” and refused to put on a mask before pushing his way in. A spokesman for Regina Pizzeria confirmed the assault took place because of the city’s mask mandate but would not give any further details. “It’s a police (investigation) and we can’t make any comment,” the spokesman...
A grandmother was shot dead Saturday morning at the restaurant she worked at for the past 34 years after she tried to help a co-worker who had just gotten to work escape a gunman who was trying to rob them outside. The man allegedly got out of the car and tried to grab the employee's purse. Baucom, a manager at the restaurant who was already inside, let her employee in and pushed back on the door to stop the man from entering. He then pulled out a gun and shot Baucom. RALF RANGNICK backed Cristiano Ronaldo’s brutal attack on his struggling team-mates and warned: It’s time they all listened. Getty Las Vegas Raiders owner Mark Davis. Jon Gruden and Mike Mayock get most of the credit for building this year’s Las Vegas Raiders playoff team but there are a lot of people who had a hand in building the roster. The team has made some questionable decisions over the last few years. Drafting Damon Arnette, signing Trent Brown and trading for Antonio Brown come to mind as some of the worst. Despite some misses in free agency, Raiders director of pro scouting Dwayne Joseph could garner some interest for teams looking for a general manager this offseason. According to Mike Sando of The Athletic, he’s one of the top names to keep an eye on. “A former Bears cornerback, Joseph has spent most of the past two decades in pro scouting with the Dolphins, Bears, Eagles and Raiders. He won a Super Bowl with the Eagles,” Sando wrote. As the director of pro scouting, Joseph has had a hand in many of the Raiders’ free agent signings. 2019 and 2020 were rough free agencies with the team...
RALF RANGNICK admits he has been surprised by the standard of struggling clubs in the Premier League after a stuttering start to his reign at Old Trafford. In his first seven games as Manchester United boss he has played all three clubs in the relegation zone. 1NINTCHDBPICT000704444990Credit: Getty He was lucky to get a 1-0 win at rock bottom Norwich courtesy of a late Cristiano Ronaldo penalty and was fortunate again to get a point at second bottom Newcastle after being outplayed. While they beat a woeful Burnley 3-1, they were only really on top for the first 35 minutes. Rangnick said: “What has surprised me a little is the teams in the lower ranks in the league are very physical and tactically very astute playing in a very organised way and in this league even against the bottom teams it is never easy. “The top teams can lose those games. “In Germany if the top teams like Bayern Munich play the bottom teams in 10 games they will ordinarily win eight or nine.”  While Rangnick has only lost one...

I kept thinking during the season that we had hit rock bottom and then each week it got a little worse. Honestly, I’m not proud of saying this, but if I’m going to be 100% honest,...
