Nancy Pelosi will not be stepping away from Congress anytime soon, she said on Sunday, despite mounting calls from young Democrats for a new generation of elected officials. The House Speaker was cagey on whether she'd once again run for a leadership role, however, explaining that the decision would depend largely on her family in the wake of a recent break-in of her San Francisco home that left her 82-year-old husband Paul with a skull fracture and other injuries requiring hospitalization. Democrats' midterm election performance defied expectations, with President Joe Biden's party winning the Senate while the House of Representatives - which had long been projected to gain at least 30 GOP seats - is still in play but leaning Republican. In a pair of Sunday news talk show interviews, Pelosi partially credited Biden for Democrats' strong performance and gave a full-throated endorsement for the president to run a second term. 'President Biden has been a great President for our country. He has accomplished so much,' Pelosi told ABC News' This Week despite other Democrats having seen the commander-in-chief and...
The Hamptons hit-and-run driver who mowed down an 18-year-old has been sentenced to three months in prison after the teenager's devastated family pleaded with a judge to give him jail time.  Daniel Campbell, 20, fatally struck Devesh 'Devu' Samtani with his Honda Pilot on Old Stone Highway in Amagansett on August 10, 2021 with such force that he was thrown six-feet into the air. At the time, Campbell had nine other people in his car. He'd also racked up a string of driving offenses, including speeding tickets days before the fatal crash, a head-on collision and even having his license stripped from him.  Campbell first pleaded guilty on August 5 to a single felony charge of leaving the scene of an accident that led to the victim's death. At the time, Judge Richard Ambro said he planned to sentence him to six months of community service in lieu of jail time - a decision that was met with outrage from Samtani's parents, who urged him to reconsider. On Thursday, Ambro sentenced Campbell to 90 days in jail, 450 hours of...
A diesel supplier has warned businesses on the US East Coast that there may be a shortage for a few days after Russia cut off imports.  Mansfield Energy, the supplier, led by CEO Michael Mansfield, issued the advisory in a bid to make sure that companies are prepared. Businesses which rely on the fuel have been told to take steps to plan for the potential lack of supply which is mostly caused by Russia cutting off imports.  This means that businesses are not receiving the high number of petroleum products that they were before the invasion of Ukraine.  It has had an impact on refineries as they have had to shift production from gasoline to make some diesel. This means that they may run low on gasoline.  The diesel shortage is also caused by high distallate (heating oil and diesel) demand, refinery maintenance and lower refinery capacity.   Mansfield Energy, the supplier, issued the advisory in a bid to make sure that companies are prepared. Democrat Senator Amy Klobuchar said Sunday that she is 'concerned' about billionaire Elon Musk's ownership of Twitter. The Minnesota lawmaker even suggested his comparably lax views on content moderation could lead to more incidents like the break-in of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's San Francisco home. A man who espoused QAnon beliefs, anti-Semitism and other extremist views broke into Pelosi's house overnight Friday and assaulted her husband, Paul Pelosi, when he tried to confront the intruder. DailyMail.com revealed earlier that the attacker was also accused of sexual abuse by her step-father. Klobuchar accused social media giants of profiting 'off of this violence.' Speaking to NBC News' Meet The Press on Sunday, the moderate Democrat said she would unveil a 'bipartisan amendment' to the annual defense spending bill to remove lawmakers' private data off of the internet in response to the Pelosi attack. Social media watchers were on high alert Friday. Musk formally completed his $44 billion purchase of Twitter and fired three of its top executives.  Asked if she trusts Musk's ownership, Klobuchar bluntly answered: 'No, I do not.' Earlier in the...
Former President Donald Trump took a swing at President Joe Biden while golfing on Thursday, a move that has been par for the course since leaving the White House. Trump took a dig at his successor at the LIV Golf event in Doral, Florida, as he swung at a golf ball, eliciting a few "good ball" lines from the onlookers. "Do you think Biden could do that?" Trump asked, sporting a "Make America Great Again" hat. "I don't think so, I don't think so." JUSTICE DEPARTMENT INVESTIGATING AUGUSTA NATIONAL GOLF CLUB IN ANTITRUST GOLF INQUIRY: REPORT While at the golf course, Trump was asked by a reporter what he thought of LIV Golf, the golf tour financially backed by Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund, according to Reuters. "Very good," Trump said. "It's doing great. I mean, it's doing great. Unlimited money." LIV Golf, which is trying to compete against the PGA Tour, has been controversial since entering the world of U.S. golf, as many families of 9/11 victims have criticized it...
Does anyone know what Jeffrey Maier is up to? The Yankees could have used the fan who stole Derek Jeter a home run in 1996. On Tuesday night during Game 1 of the Yankees’ Division Series against the Cleveland Guardians, third baseman Josh Donaldson hit a ball to a very similar spot in right field. But instead of an overzealous kid reaching out and snagging it, the ball hit the top of the wall and caromed back into the field of play. Donaldson didn’t know any of that as the play was unfolding. Neither did first base coach Travis Chapman, who gave Donaldson a high five as he rounded first. Both men were unaware that the umpire did not signal a home run and the play was still live. With his eyes toward the ground and already down shifted into a home run trot, Donaldson was thrown out between first and second for one of the most embarrassing outs in recent memory. It did look to the naked eye that the ball may have hit a fan in the right...
STEPHEN VOGT found perhaps the perfect way to retire. Then to cap it off in the bottom of the seventh, Vogt hit a home run on his final bat. Not only that, but it happened to land in the same spot on the Oakland Coliseum as his first MLB home run back in 2013. Fans, teammates, and commentators alike were hyped for Vogt, with one of the analysts yelling "let's go!" as he rounded second base. Supporters of President Jair Bolsonaro are seeking an investigation into Sunday's election after he confounded polls and forced the race to a run-off, according to his son. Eduardo Bolsonaro credited a video message by Donald Trump with helping his father to within five points of leftist leader Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva. And he said Brazilians expect Trump to return to the White House.  But he reserved particular anger for polls that had given Lula as much as a double digit lead, which he said may have prompted some supporters to vote for other candidates. 'We do not believe they were wrong by a mistake or science,' he told DailyMail.com.  'They were wrong because they are trying to influence the elections.'  The highly polarized election will determine if the country returns a leftist to lead the world's fourth-largest democracy or keeps the hard -right incumbent in office for another four years.  Da Silva came close to an outright majority with 48.4 percent of the vote to Bolsonaro's 43.2 percent.  President Jair Bolsonaro confounded expectations by narrowly losing to leftwing challenger Luiz...

Getty Andrew Wiggins of the Golden State Warriors. For the better part of the last decade, the Golden State Warriors have been the dominant force that the rest of the NBA has been forced to go through. Their core of Stephen Curry, Draymond Green, and Klay Thompson has acted as the Evil Empire that everyone else has looked up to. However, in the past two seasons, it’s been the exterior players that have been making noise for Golden State. Of course, Curry, Green, and Thompson have been great, but guys like Andrew Wiggins and Jordan Poole have exploded onto the scene. And in the case of Wiggins, he earned a new opportunity with the Warriors. After being selected with the first-overall pick in the 2014 NBA Draft, Wiggins spent the five and a half years of his career with the Minnesota Timberwolves. During a recent return to his hometown with the Larry O’Brien trophy, Wiggins spoke about his experiences in both Minnesota and Golden State. “When I step on the court, I’ve always been confident in what I...

Miami Marlins pitcher had a massive scare when a line drive struck him in the head. Fortunately, he was able to walk off under his own power. There are few things scarier on a baseball field than when a line drive strikes someone in the head. Marlins pitcher Daniel Castano faced that scenario on Thursday as he pitched against the Reds in Cincinnati. In the first inning, Donovan Solano’s 104-mph line drive drilled Castano in the forehead before being caught by the third baseman. An 11-year-old girl who was on life support for four days after an ATV struck her and killed her best friend in Apple Valley, California, died on Wednesday morning.  Christina 'Tina' Bird, who was celebrating the Fourth of July weekend with her best friend Jacob Martinez, 12, was pronounced dead at 8:50am at the Loma Linda University Medical Center, her uncle Ernie Nunez confirmed on Facebook. Police said the duo was riding on the same ATV at a camp ground on July 2 when another ATV crashed into them, mangling them and refusing to stop and help as the driver fled the scene, KTLA reported. On the GoFundMe page Nunez began for Christina's mother, Felica Nunez, he wrote: 'The doctors did their final tests today to see if there is any life in Tina. The results were negative.'  'Tina has grown her pair of wings to join her Grandma and Grandpa in Heaven where she is pain free.' MIAMI — Manager Gabe Kapler’s mantra has been to protect his starting pitchers, but with three early moves to the bullpen in the past four games, it’s hard to argue he’s had the intended effect. Each time Kapler has gone to the bullpen with his starter below 100 pitches, besides using an opener Friday, the move has backfired. In the most recent example in Saturday’s 5-4 walk-off loss to the Marlins, Kapler opted not to give his ace, Logan Webb, the opportunity to get the last out of the fifth inning while holding a two-run lead, and his replacement, John Brebbia, immediately allowed a game-tying single. The Marlins walked it off in the ninth off reliever Tyler Rogers, guaranteeing no better than a .500 record on this 10-game swing through three Eastern cities that featured three teams with losing records. Luke Williams, who was designated for assignment and traded to Miami two weeks ago, scored the winning run on a sac fly after San Francisco deployed an unconventional five-man infield once he reached third base. PALO ALTO — A younger team might have panicked Saturday. A younger team might have looked at the dramatically changed scoreboard and sulked its way to a season-ending defeat. Palo Alto is not a younger team. The Vikings led by seven runs in the sixth inning of their Central Coast Section Division I quarterfinal. Carlmont scored eight in the visitor’s half of the sixth and retired Palo Alto in order in the home half of the frame. Down to its final three outs, third-seeded Palo Alto set the stage for sophomore Charlie Bates, and the kid who has already committed to the university across the street — Stanford — hit a one-out single through the middle to drive in the tying and winning runs. Pandemonium followed as Palo Alto celebrated an 11-10 victory over a team that deserved as much applause as the one that will play next week in the semifinals. “A lot of times an eight-run inning like that might kill you, take the energy out of you,” Palo Alto star Henry Bolte said. “We just get back...

'Let me get my shoes off, because I had heels on at the same time.  'One of them couldn't come off all the way, and I fell.'  Scott suffered a broken femur and ribs, lacerations to her liver, and both her knees were split open. In one particularly sadistic incident caught on surveillance footage viewed by police, Christopher Gregor, 29, repeatedly falls off a treadmill - which his dad allegedly forced him to use in a twisted attempt at 'losing weight.' The Ocean County Medical Examiner's Office determined last year that Corey Micciolo died on April 2, 2021, of 'sustained injuries due to blunt force trauma,' according to a joint press release.  At the time, officials found evidence that revealed Gregor had abused his son and charged him with endangering the welfare of a child.  Gregor was arrested last Wednesday and had his charges upgraded to murder following an expert review of the case, Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley Billhimer and Barnegat Township Police Chief Keith Germain announced in the press release.  The press release...

The University of Virginia’s Center for Politics, which keeps tabs on the vulnerability of congressional districts, moved Rep. Henry Cuellar’s Texas 28th Congressional District from ‘likely Democrat” to “toss-up” after neither he nor his challenger, socialist Jessica Cisneros, were able to seal the party’s nomination with over 50 percent of the vote Tuesday night. As the Democrat party is now forced to use resources, much needed in other races, for the Democrat versus socialist run-off, the candidate, whichever one it may be, will be in a much weaker position to run against the Republican nominee. However, this is a rematch for Cuellar, and in 2020, he narrowly defeated Cisneros in the primary. The Center for Politics indicated that  the reason for changing the district to a “toss-up” is that Cuellar, who is a “proven local commodity,” also “has a cloud hanging over his head” since he recently had a “court-authorized” FBI raid of his house. He insisted that he did nothing wrong but is cooperating with investigation authorities. But, Cisneros, who has seen droves of far-left Democrats lining up to back her, “may very well be too progressive for an ancestrally Democratic...
Donald Trump has angrily responded to Hillary Clinton's dismissal of accusations her campaign spied on him, describing her as 'one of the most corrupt politicians ever to run for President' and accusing her of having 'broken into the White House'. The latest twist in the six-year drama was sparked by a legal filing on Friday by John Durham, the Trump-appointed special counsel who has been investigating the origins of the FBI's Trump-Russia inquiry. Durham included in his filing previously known information about an Obama-era White House investigation into malware, which Trump's supporters said was evidence that the Clinton campaign spied on her Republican rival. Clinton, 74, laughed off the anger among Trump supporters on Thursday, in a speech at the New York Democratic Convention. Hours later, Trump sent out a furious press release demanding more coverage of the 'scandal.' Donald Trump, seen at a January 29 rally in Conroe, Texas, reacted with fury to Hillary Clinton laughing off Durham's filing Clinton on Thursday addressed the New York state Democratic Convention 'Crooked Hillary Clinton, one of the most corrupt politicians ever...

Protesters gathered in Fayetteville in North Carolina for a second night on Monday after a black man was allegedly shot dead by an off-duty cop.  Jason Walker, 37, was killed just after 2:15pm on Saturday outside his home on Bingham Drive.  The deputy involved in the shooting, identified as Lieutenant Jeffrey Hash, was taken into custody, but not arrested, and put on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation. Justice. When do we want it? Now' while another group of protesters held signs outside the State Capitol in Raleigh.   Meanwhile the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) began an 'initial assessment' of the case, reviewing 'evidence, statements and body-worn camera' to determine whether there were potential civil rights violations. Illinois racing officials are challenging a request to allow off-track betting by Arlington International Racecourse, even though it is not licensed for racing next year, as the statute appears to require. Hawthorne Race Course officials proposed that they could instead take over the parlors, which allow gamblers to bet remotely on races around the country and watch them on television. The decision, set for next month, could affect millions of dollars in bets and horse racing purses. Arlington owner Churchill Downs Inc. shut down the track permanently in September and has a preliminary agreement to sell the site for $197 million to the Chicago Bears. Some members of the Illinois Racing Board expressed disbelief that Churchill Downs is now trying to make money off the very horse racing industry that they say it devastated. Commissioner Alan Henry said it’s “plain common sense” that Arlington shouldn’t get the licenses after closing its track, saying, “It seems an awful lot like a farmer who sells his prize Holstein (cow), then expects to get paid for some of the milk...

Nationwide, anti-maskers are attacking school board members and local government officials over mask mandates placed to stop the spread of the novel coronavirus. We are still in a pandemic, and the delta variant is spreading fast, yet some people would rather commit violence than wear a mask for others' safety. As people resort to violence across the country, health officials are pleading for help. In one horrific incident, a Michigan County health director pleaded with county commissioners for help after almost being run off the road following the issuance of a mask mandate for preschool through sixth-grade school buildings, Michigan Advance reported. “I need help. My team and I are broken. I’m about done. I’ve done my job to the best of my ability. I’ve given just about everything to Kent County, and now I’ve given some more of my safety,”  Kent County Health Department director Dr. Adam London said in a letter to county commissioners. The letter outlined his reasons for issuing the public health mandate requiring students to wear masks this fall. The letter dated August 22...
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — DJ LeMahieu led off the 11th inning with an RBI double and the New York Yankees, after blowing four late leads, finally held off the feisty Kansas City Royals 8-6 on Monday night. Brett Gardner drove home another run in the 11th with an infield single, and Tyler Wade scored on a throwing error by second baseman Whit Merrifield to make it 8-5. But the Royals, who tied the score in each of the previous four innings, refused to go down easily once again. They got a two-out RBI single from Edward Olivares and brought the potential winning run to the plate before Carlos Santana grounded out to end a game that took 4 hours, 52 minutes. Wandy Peralta earned his third major league save — the first two came with San Francisco earlier this season. Luke Voit, activated from the injured list Sunday, hit a go-ahead single in the seventh and a tiebreaking homer in the ninth for New York. Kansas City became the first team since 1900 to erase a deficit in...

A car thief was arrested, accused of going on a spree of hit-and-runs in the Philadelphia area during which he hit a woman walking on the sidewalk, then doubled back to run her over her a second time, killing her, before speeding off to steal another car and hit another pedestrian. The rampage began at 2:10 a.m. Wednesday, according to CBS Philly, when a man in a stolen Chevy Malibu rear-ended a pair on a motorcycle in the area of Broad and Lombard streets in Philadelphia.   The 29-year-old male motorcycle driver was unscathed, while his 29-year-old female passenger had 'bumps and bruises.' Then, police said the same suspect sped down 15th Street toward South Street and hit a 32-year-old woman walking home with her coworker from their workplace at Steak 48 in Center City.   Her coworker was able to dive out of the way, but the woman was boxed in by parked cars. She and her coworker's bicycle were rammed by the car as it careened down the narrow sidewalk. The driver sped down 15th Street toward South Street...

Houston Astros star Jose Altuve put an exclamation point on the weekend with a walk-off home run against the New York Yankees and fanned the flames of a rivalry that bubbled up again. Altuve hit a three-run home run to cap a six-run rally in the bottom of the ninth inning against the Yankees. Houston won the game, 8-7. CLICK HERE FOR MORE SPORTS COVERAGE ON FOXNEWS.COM The symbolism over Altuve’s ripped jersey at the end of the game is what mattered the most. Aaron Judge appeared to make a reference Saturday when he hit a home run and tightened up his jersey while he rounded the bases. Judge said it was because he was cold while the Minute Maid Park roof was closed, but many believed it was a reference to Altuve trying to cover himself while rounding the bases after a clutch home run in the 2019 postseason.  Altuve was accused, without evidence, of having a buzzer attached to him to signal what type of pitch was heading his way. While Judge didn’t outright accuse Altuve of doing...

This comes just after Dusty Baker called out Aaron Judge for trolling Jose Altuve with his home run celebration on Saturday. “I noticed what he did,” Baker told the media. “That was wrong. That’s my homeboy. But that was wrong. Hey man, people can do what they want to do. He’s one of the biggest, baddest dudes out there.”...
SHA'CARRI Richardson will not be heading to the Tokyo Olympics as she was left of the US relay team after a positive drug test. After testing positive for THC, there was still some hope that Richardson may be able to run in the Olympics as part of the 4x100 relay team. 1Sha'Carri Richardson will not run in the OlympicsCredit: Getty Images However, a roster released by USA Track and Field on Tuesday does not include the athlete. After testing positive for THC, the chemical found in marijuana, Richardson was given a one-month suspension, which disqualified her from participating in individual Olympic events. There was still some hope that she'd be picked for the relay, though, as it is set to take place after her suspension ends. Richardson's suspension led to a huge amount of backlash after she won the 100-meter dash at the Olympic trials. Willians Astudillo is not going to win the CY Young Award this year, or any year after serving up a bomb to White Sox breakout slugger Yermin Mercedes that had Twins announcers up in arms. The Chicago White Sox bludgeoned the Minnesota Twins on Monday night to put an exclamation mark on their AL Central rivals and send a message they are the team to beat in the division. Not only did Nick Madrigal his first career home run and Danny Mendick his a grand slam, but Yermin Mercedes hit a home run in the ninth inning that still hasn’t landed yet. It did come off a position player, Willians Astudillo, and it did come on a 46 MPH pitch, so it’s not like he took Shane Bieber deep. In fact, this was the slowest pitch that resulted in a home run since MLB began tracking this data. But the home run really rankled the Twins announcers who referenced the unwritten rules of baseball and why this was a travesty. In other words, old men yell at cloud type stuff. Mercedes...
