Gabriel Hernandez-Mendez, an ex-son-in-law of former Pennsylvania congressman and current Republican gubernatorial candidate Lou Barletta, received a 1-2 year sentence on Tuesday for a hit-and-run. The incident, which occurred in June, left 15-year-old bicyclist Hector Padilla dead. Padilla’s father Pedro has said that he recognizes that what happened was an accident but that he also believes a much more severe sentence was warranted insofar as the 45-year-old Hernandez-Mendez drove away from the scene and kept quiet about it for 45 days. FOX 56 News reporter Dylan Fearon, who has followed the case closely and reported on the trial, spoke with The Pennsylvania Daily Star Wednesday about the case and political suspicions that some have voiced regarding it. “The Padilla family came out and said they believed there was some influence in this case … potentially because of the Lou Barletta connection,” Fearon said. Barletta is the grandfather of Hernandez-Mendez’s child. Fearon noted that despite Hernandez-Mendez having hidden from the law for six weeks before he turned himself in, the defendant was convicted only of “homicide by vehicle” while an “accident involving death” charge would have...
Joe Robbins/Getty Images A hall of fame NFL executive apologized after coming under heavy criticism for comments he made Saturday about Dwyane Haskins — the Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback who was killed Saturday morning in Florida when he was struck by a dump truck while trying to cross a highway. The executive, former Dallas Cowboys general manager Gil Brandt, made the remarks on SiriusXM’s NFL channel hours after news of the quarterback’s death was reported. “He was a guy that was living to be dead,” Brandt said of Haskins. Brandt went on to seemingly attribute the quarterback’s death to his leaving Ohio State University before graduating, despite being a first round NFL draft pick. “It was always something,” Brandt said of Haskins. He added,“Maybe it he stayed in school a year he wouldn’t do silly things … jogging on the highway, on a road like that.” Here is @Gil_Brandt on NFL radio when asked about Dwayne Haskins. “He was a guy that was living to be dead.” “It was always something” with Haskins “Maybe it he stayed in school a year...

Alec Baldwin purchased a historic 50-acre farm in Vermont for $1.7million Tuesday - the same day he was hit with a wrongful death suit by the family of the cinematographer he accidentally shot dead in October. The purchase by Baldwin, 63, in the small mountain town of Arlington, comes after the actor spent months in the area after fleeing his home in New York City following the tragedy in New Mexico, which resulted in the death of Halyna Hutchins. 'Obviously a purchase is public information,' broker Faith Rhodes, who handled the sale, told local outlet the Bennington Banner Thursday when asked about the deal. 'It's an historic farm. East Arlington Village is historic itself.' According to Rhodes, the farmhouse is nearly 250 years old, and was built in 1780 or 1783.      She added, 'There are 50-something acres, and it's just gorgeous … just gorgeous. 'That part of Arlington is very old and historic. It dates back to the Green Mountain Boys,' she told the paper, referring to a Revolutionary War-era militia that once protected the area from settlers from other states...
Disgraced lawyer Alex Murdaugh's legal troubles are continuing to mount with a fresh lawsuit from the ex-girlfriend of his murdered son who says she was left 'permanently disfigured' from a boat crash while killed a teenage girl. Murdaugh is currently in jail for trying to fake his own death and faces a total of 74 criminal charges after allegedly trying to swindle $8.8million in wrongful death and accident settlements while working as a South Carolina injury lawyer. In February 2019, Murdaugh's son Paul allegedly ploughed their 17ft bay boat into a bridge, sending three people overboard. Two were rescued from the water but Mallory Beach, 19, was killed and her body was recovered from the water seven days later. Paul was allegedly drunk at the time he was driving the boat, but he was not given a sobriety test, booked in jail or even handcuffed after the crash, leading to speculation he received special treatment due to the family's legal connections. At the time, Paul was dating Morgan Doughty, who was on the boat at the time and is now seeking punitive damages...
Bob Saget’s autopsy report has appeared to raise more questions that offer answers about the cause of the 65-year-old comedian and actor’s sudden death on January 9. Saget’s family revealed last week that he died of a brain bleed after hitting his head and going to sleep unaware of the severity of his injuries. Though an autopsy report released Thursday painted a grimmer picture about such injuries, noting that he fractured his skull in multiple places and sustained bleeding across both sides of his brain. Health experts are now asking how thoroughly his death was investigated and what caused have caused Saget such a “significant blow to the head,” which one doctor said appeared consistent with taking a baseball bat to the skull or falling 20 to 30 feet. Health experts are demanding answers about the cause of Bob Saget's death after an autopsy report found his injuries more significant than initially believed Saget's injuries stretched from the back to the front of his skull, with additional fractures above his eye sockets. Neurosurgeon Dr. Sanjay Gupta, who’s also CNN's chief...

A New York state trooper has been charged in the death of an 11-year-old Brooklyn girl after he allegedly used his police cruiser to intentionally ram into her family's SUV. Christopher Baldner was indicted on charges of second-degree murder, manslaughter and reckless endangerment in Ulster County Court Wednesday for the December 2020 crash that killed Monica Goods, 11. According to the indictment, the Goods family was traveling in a Dodge Journey, driven by father Tristan Goods, on the New York State Thruway - near mile marker 92 - on December 22 when Baldner pulled the vehicle over for speeding. Tristan claims an argument broke out, Baldner lost his temper, and released pepper spray into the vehicle. The husband and father of two, who said he feared for his life, sped off, prompting a pursuit that ended when Baldner rammed his cruiser into the rear of the family's SUV twice. The second strike caused the car to hit a guard rail, flip over several times and eject Monica from her seat - killing her - before coming to a rest upside down. ...

Beth Hale looks at Emma Raducanu's incredible journey to the top... HER PARENTS' PIVOTAL ROLE While the likes of Judy Murray and Richard Williams have become almost as well-known as their champion offspring, Emma's parents have remained surprisingly incognito. PUEBLO, Colo. Gerda’s biggest fear, she told CNN, is losing everything the family had worked so hard for since coming to the country with just three suitcases decades ago. “Losing what we (built) all these years, having to fear somebody else has it after we walk away and...
