By Dave Pehling SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) — Popular Mission District club the Chapel on Saturday hosts a fund-raising streaming event that will broadcast the venue’s first socially distanced concert on its new outdoor stage from back in August featuring the Red Room Orchestra. The concert marked the return of live music to the Chapel and its sister restaurant Curio (which reopened back in mid-June with a new chef and menu) and was the first of several outdoor music events held at the club’s outdoor stage since the COVID-19 pandemic (and subsequent lockdown of live music venues) began in March. Much as that concert was aimed at raising money and awareness about the plight of Bay Area venues that are part of the Independent Venue Alliance, the livestream event will also serve as a fundraiser for the organization founded last spring. Operators from landmark San Francisco venues like the Bottom of the Hill, El Rio, the Rickshaw Stop and the Chapel all banded together in order to amplify the cause of these key cultural hubs that have received little assistance...

Kamala Harris' formidable fundraising machine is kicking into high gear now that she is on the ticket with Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden. Since Biden named her as his running mate, Harris' associates in the business world have been getting calls from new donors, according to people familiar with direct knowledge of the matter. The Harris allies have also been organizing virtual fundraisers with the campaign, according to the people, who declined to be named as these efforts have yet to be made public. "I am beyond thrilled," said one of Harris' longtime fundraisers on Sunday. "I was not ready to be on calls and working 18 hours a day." This person added that Harris will be featured on her own without Biden in several upcoming fundraisers.   Harris has built strong relationships...
A video of Donald Trump Jr praising We Build The Wall at an event last year has emerged after the group's leader Brian Kolfage and former top Trump aide Steve Bannon were arrested for allegedly running a crowd-funded border wall scam.  Don Jr, the eldest son of President Donald Trump, gave a 15-minute speech at the 'Symposium at the Wall: Cartels, Trafficking and Asylum' event in July 2019, during which he gushed about the groups efforts to raise money for a border wall.  'This is what capitalism is all about. This is private enterprise at its finest,' Don Jr says as he holds hands with Kolfage, a Purple Heart recipient and triple-amputee. 'Doing it better, faster, cheaper than anything else. What you guys are doing is amazing.'   The video of the speech was cast in a whole new light on Thursday after federal prosecutors charged Bannon, Kolfage and two others with defrauding hundreds of thousands of people out of $25million donated to the fundraising campaign.  A spokesperson for Don Jr - who himself donated to the effort - has since...

Reuters June 23, 2020 0 Comments U.S. Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden’s first 2020 fundraiser with former President Barack Obama raised $7.6 million from more than 175,000 people on Tuesday, the campaign said, the most Biden has collected at a single event thus far. The virtual event came on the heels of the Democratic Party and Biden’s campaign outraising President Donald Trump in May for the first time, $80.8 million to $74 million. The Republican president, who has been campaigning for a second term since 2017, still has a spending advantage ahead of the Nov. 3 presidential election. Trump’s campaign, party and other fundraising entities had $265 million in cash at the end of May. The Democrats and Biden, who launched his campaign in April 2019, held a combined $122 million, not including some fundraising entities that have not disclosed their records. Early in the 2020 campaign, Biden’s weak fundraising numbers compared with some of his Democratic competitors were a source of concern. But his fundraising from donors has picked up in recent weeks as his lead in national...

Trump has said he wants to resume campaign rallies, but large gatherings have yet to be permitted by most states. The last in-person rally the campaign hosted was back on March 2 in Charlotte, North Carolina.Read more Democratic Challengers Out-Fundraise GOP Incumbents in Two Red States The Pandemic Was Supposed to Kill Political Fundraising—But Cash Flooded In Trump Has Raised $288M More Than Obama's Reelection Campaign At Same Point Donald Trump Raised $2M More Than Joe Biden and the Democrats in April As the campaign tries to revive efforts for his reelection while following social distance guidelines, Trump's upcoming events are expected to limit the number of attendees as well as enforce...
