SANTA CLARA – Amos Talalele towers over defenders he pancakes into the ground on run plays and overshadows pass rushers who try to swim around his massive frame. The senior tackle is 6-foot-4, weighs 330 pounds and would probably start on any offensive line in the Bay Area. The USC commit attends Santa Clara, which is a few miles from the city’s perennial powerhouse, Wilcox, and close to some of the West Catholic Athletic League’s top programs. But Talalele didn’t test temptation. “Yeah, I was thinking about Wilcox because they’re a powerhouse team and they make a run at a state every year,” Talalele said. “But you know what, I’m loyal to my soil. I’ve put a lot into this team.” Santa Clara hasn’t had a winning season since 2018. The Bruins went 4-6 in 2019, 1-4 in the pandemic-shortened spring 2021 season and 3-6-1 last fall under then-first-year coach Andrew Calderon. They are 2-5 now. “He thought about leaving after his junior year, and thankfully he decided to stay,” Calderon said. “I think he was looking for an easier...

Photo by Christian Petersen/Getty Images Arizona Cardinals defensive end J.J. Star defensive end JJ Watt has revealed he will play for the Arizona Cardinals this afternoon, despite having his heart 'shocked back into rhythm' just three days ago. The 33-year-old broke the bombshell news on Twitter just hours before taking to the field against the Carolina Panthers on Sunday, claiming he was only sharing it because it had been leaked to the media. Writing to his 5.6million followers, he said: 'I was just told somebody leaked some personal information about me and it’s going to be reported on today. Getty Jonathan Kuminga goes up for a shot in a game against the Chicago Bulls. The Golden State Warriors have boasted a two-track plan for success, a team filled with veteran stars prepared for immediate success alongside promising young players expected to keep them in title contention for many years to come. One insider believes those two tracks could be converging sooner than expected. This offseason, the Warriors lost a number of players who were critical to their title run last season. Defensive-minded guard Gary Payton II was lured away by the Portland Trail Blazers and an offer the Warriors were unable to match. Do-it-all big man Otto Porter Jr. landed a $12.4-million deal from the Toronto Raptors, and fellow big man Nemanja Bjelica opted to return to his former team in Turkey. As ESPN’s Kendra Andrews reported, those and other departures could shorten the learning curve for the team’s group of young players and thrust them into bigger roles next year, and 2021 lottery pick Jonathan Kuminga could have the most on his shoulders.Warriors Could Expect More...
Getty Jayson Tatum of the Boston Celtics. The Boston Celtics played a lot of basketball this past season. They made it as far as any other team, as they and the Golden State Warriors played in more games than any other squads in the league. As a result, there had to have been a serious level of exhaustion that set in after the season ended. In turn, this offseason provides Boston’s players with the perfect opportunity to rest as they prepare for next year. But as the upcoming season draws closer, more and more players will begin training harder and harder, and the best way to train is to face off against the best of the best. That’s why we’re seeing so many pictures of NBA players working out together. Well, a recent report indicates that Celtics star Jayson Tatum is set to play against some stiff competition. According to former NBA guard Jamal Crawford, Tatum will be playing in his Pro-Am league, The Crawsover, on Saturday. “???????????????????????????? Bron said Mal, you know we gotta keep the party...

Getty Head coach Andy Reid will attempt to develop his next offensive star in 2022. The Kansas City Chiefs will likely ask a lot of their 10-man rookie class in 2022. Six of these promising youngsters are in the conversation for starting roles and first-rounders Trent McDuffie and George Karlaftis are near-guarantees to earn them. The other potential starters are wide receiver Skyy Moore, safety Bryan Cook, linebacker Leo Chenal, and right tackle Darian Kinnard. Of course, this was always the offseason plan for general manager Brett Veach. By flipping Tyreek Hill, the Chiefs were able to reconstruct their roster’s foundation through the draft. Marilyn Monroe was already a star when, at a New York party, she announced what she wanted most in the world.  Perhaps it was a case of 'in vino veritas', but her confession — according to fashion mogul Henry Rosenfeld, a longtime friend — was extraordinary even for a Hollywood actress who liked to cause a stir. Marilyn, Rosenfeld recalled, declared she'd like 'to put on her black wig, pick up her father in a bar and have him make love to her. Then she'd say: 'How do you feel now to have a daughter that you've made love to?' ' It was a shocking wish, but then the film star believed her father had done her a terrible wrong. Born to a deeply troubled mother who spent most of her time in and out of mental institutions, Monroe embarked on a lifelong quest to confirm the true identity of a father she never met.  The actress famously sang 'My heart belongs to Daddy' — but who exactly was 'Daddy'? Monroe believed she knew: a dashing and good-looking entrepreneur with...

The Phoenix Suns may have a 3-2 advantage over the New Orleans Pelicans, but as the series gets closer to winding down, Suns fans would probably like to have their star player healthy and able to get back out on the court. Will the New Orleans Pelicans have Zion Williamson available for the NBA Playoffs? Opinions differ on the star big man’s return to the lineup. Three years ago, the Pelicans drafted Zion Williamson with hopes of the Duke star leading them to playoff glory. They’ve made it to the postseason for the first time in his NBA career…and they did it without him. Williamson hasn’t played at all in 2022 after suffering a foot fracture during the offseason. He had surgery in July and his return to action has been delayed because of soreness. Despite his absence, the Pelicans rode the wave with C.J. McCollum and Brandon Ingram. They made it past the Clippers in the Play-in Tournament to grab the No. 8 seed. Now the question is whether or not New Orleans can look forward to adding their star forward to the mix for the playoffs. The Yankees got extra innings to work with after the rainout on Thursday, but it wasn’t enough. The team had an extra 24 hours to try and lock up Aaron Judge, but the face of the franchise will play this season on a year-deal. GM Brian Cashman confirmed Friday that the Yankees and Judge failed to reach an agreement on an extension. Cashman said that the Yankees offered a seven-year deal starting in 2023 at $30.5 million per year, and Judge turned it down. Judge is set to make somewhere between $17 million and $21 million in arbitration this year, so it would have been an eight-year deal in total. “The intent on both parties would be to stay here,” Cashman said. “He’s been a great Yankee. Our hope is at some point we’ll find that common ground.” That common ground will now have to come in the offseason. “This was the deadline,” Judge said before Cashman spoke. “I don’t want to be a distraction during the year. SACRAMENTO, Calif. — One night after an exciting comeback win against the Utah Jazz, the Warriors are resting the bulk of their stars for Sunday’s road game against the Kings. As expected, Klay Thompson, Andre Iguodala and Otto Porter Jr. were listed as out on the team’s injury report Saturday afternoon for injury management. Draymond Green will play his first back-to-back set since returning from a disc injury in his back. Green has looked more like himself in the Warriors’ last two games after criticizing his own play last week. Golden State has been extra cautious with its veterans returning from injury this season. Thompson has yet to play in both games of a back-to-back this season since coming back in January from his ACL and Achilles tears. And Porter, who has battled various injuries throughout his nine-year NBA career, has played in only one complete back-to-back this season, dating back to Jan. 13 and 14. Iguodala returned last week from a back injury that sidelined him for 21 games, and coach Steve Kerr on Saturday said the plan was...
Steph Curry’s return to the court appears to be on the horizon. Though he’s not participating in on-court activities yet, he’s hitting the treadmill and working in the weight room with Rick Celebrini, the Warriors’ director of sports medicine and performance. It’s possible Curry — recovering from a foot sprain sustained on March 16 against the Celtics — could return for a handful of the Warriors’ remaining five regular-season games before the first round of the playoffs on April 16. At the very least, he’s “trending in a good direction,” coach Steve Kerr said. The Warriors could use Curry to cinch the offense back into place as they’ve lost four straight games to drop to fourth place in the Western Conference. But will Curry be up to the task post-injury? History says after a major injury, it may take a little time for Curry to find his stride again — and he’s made a habit of spraining ligaments right in the thick of the playoff hunt. But few players in the NBA can make an immediate impact post-injury quite like...

GARETH SOUTHGATE has less than two weeks to make a grab for Anthony Elanga. If the Three Lions head coach doesn’t make his pitch fast then he will almost certainly lose the new Thierry Henry of English football to Sweden. 3Anthony Elanga celebrates his strike against Atletico MadridCredit: Rex Gary Neville has already compared the 19-year-old to the French icon. Last year his Manchester United under-23 boss Neil Wood couldn’t disagree in an interview with a Swedish newspaper that, yes, Elanga had a similar attacking DNA to Henry. Before that Ralf Rangnick’s predecessor Ole Gunnar Solskjaer insisted there were 'no words' to describe Elanga’s potential. Had Solskjaer actually chosen to act he might even still be manager of United right now. It was he, after all, who gave him his first two appearances at the end of last season. In the second of them the whizz kid scored the opener in a 2-1 win at Wolves.
