Officials are seeking help from the public to identify the gunman and charge him with aggravated assault. Nearby residents were horrified at the video. "Thank God he did what he could to block it, thank God the gun didn't go off, but I mean, to even be targeting with your child in your hand, the psychology of that is just, beyond," said one resident to WDIV-TV. Officials said the father and the child were in good condition. Later on Monday, officials said they had taken custody of a person of interest, but they offered no further information. Here's a local news report about the incident: Police say gun 'malfunctioned' when man aimed it at father holding baby at Detroit gas station www.youtube.com
A police sniper then fired on Alcantara – which killed the suspect while he was holding the baby. Police rushed toward the 30-year-old suspect. "I got child, I got child, come here baby," an officer exclaimed. The baby was unharmed and taken to safety. The shooting remains under investigation, according to KUTV. Childhood plays a huge role in how we behave in our adult years but not every child from the same family will have the same traits.  Dysfunctional family roles is a psychological theory which suggests that the role you played within your family will carry on throughout your life, shaping how you behave as an adult.  The theory was developed from work by American psychotherapist Virginia Satir, who studied the dynamics within families in the 1960s.  For example the 'hero' children who were praised excessively for their successes as children will likely be over achievers now but feel a deep need to impress and fear failure an irrational amount. Meanwhile 'caretakers' might quietly carry stress while being too afraid to burden others. While many of these roles mean positive things like the ability to problem solve or focus on goals, some roles mean you are more likely to attract a toxic partner or to suffer from anxiety and depression.  UK-based experts spoke to FEMAIL about how different roles within the family can impact your development for decades to come, and...

Ariel Skelley | DigitalVision | Getty Images A lack of paid leave and access to quality child care has long been an issue for working parents in the U.S., advocates argue. The coronavirus pandemic has only exacerbated the issue, with some parents — mainly women — ditching their jobs to care for their kids. A September report by Lean In and McKinsey & Company found that 1 in 4 women were considering leaving the workforce or downsizing their career. "The pandemic really put in front of people how much caregiving is truly a part of what makes the economy work," said Lelaine Bigelow, managing director of external affairs at the National Partnership for Women & Families. The Biden administration recently responded by proposing 12 weeks of paid family and medical leave, which workers would get within 10 years. They could receive up to $4,000 a month, with at least two-thirds of their average weekly wages replaced. The program, part of President Joe Biden's $1.8 trillion spending and tax credit plan, would be paid for with payroll taxes. More from Invest...
The government is paying travel costs for sponsors trying to pick up migrant children from shelters, amid the surge of unaccompanied children seeking asylum at the border. The policy underscores the White House’s urgency to get the children out of beleaguered and overcrowded shelters, according to Axios. About 275 minor migrants have been arriving at the southern border from Central America everyday, and about 20,000 are reportedly in federal custody. The US is not turning them away for humanitarian reasons. Paying for sponsors to get to the border is a “normal part of the unaccompanied children program’s operations,” Administration for Children and Families officials told Axios. The move is a financially sound decision, given that it costs $775 a day to house a child, Mark Greenberg, a...
U.S. Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has accused a prosecutor in the Adam Toledo police shooting-death case in Chicago of lying in a Thursday tweet. The prosecutor and Cook County Assistant State's Attorney James Murphy told a court earlier this month that video showed Toledo, a 13-year-old boy who was fatally shot by a Chicago police officer, had a gun in his hand when he was shot.  But Ocasio-Cortez has since accused him of lying ‘about the police killing a child’ after a newly released body camera video still appeared to show that Toledo's hands were in the air and empty when he was shot.  Video showed the teen appearing to drop a handgun and raising his hands right before the cop opened fire. A handgun was also found near where he was shot. Police say the teen had a handgun on him that morning, and that less than a second passed from when Toledo is seen with a gun in hand and when Stillman opened fire. The Cook County State's Attorney office said in a statement that the prosecutor 'failed to fully inform...
