A Nebraska woman who was born with a double uterus was shocked to discover that she was pregnant in both of them at the same time — but the pregnancy would not go smoothly, and she went into early labor at just 22.5 weeks gestation.  Megan Phipps, 24, was born with uterine didelphys, a rare condition in which a woman has two uteruses, and sometimes even a cervix for each. The condition hadn't been an issue in her previous two pregnancies, which happened on her right side — but earlier this year, she discovered that she was pregnant with twins, one is each uterus. According to Good Morning America, Phipps went into early labor, delivering both babies in her second trimester — when they weight under a pound each. One of the babies passed away soon after, but the other, baby Reece, is now the youngest baby born at Bryan Health in Lincoln to survive. Seattle has become the first major US city to vaccinate 70 percent of its residents over age 12 - an ambitious goal set by President Joe Biden - while New York state is a fraction away from hitting the same critical benchmark and reopening fully.  Seattle Mayor Jenny Durkan announced the milestone in a tweet on Wednesday and said the city administered 249,000 vaccinations to more than 131,000 people, and the vaccination rate is higher for residents over the age of 12 (78 percent).  Seattle was one of the first cities to be struck by the COVID-19 crisis in January 2020, so it's fitting that it is leading others in vaccination rates.  Now that 70 percent of eligible residents have received at least one shot, Durkan said the city and its partners will begin to launch new efforts to reopen throughout the summer.  'These efforts will include supporting local small retailers and restaurants, arts and culture programming, and bolstering transit use,' she said. 'The city will have more information on these reopening and recovery efforts in the coming weeks.' ...
Dear Naomi,  A warm and sisterly welcome to the First-time Mums At 50 Club. We’re a small, but growing band who, believe me, need all the support we can get from others walking the same path — even though you may find you’re the only one doing so in a pair of 6 in-heeled Louboutins. My eight-year-old, Sadie, an only child, was born on a final roll of the fertility dice — after two miscarriages and four attempts at IVF — when I was 51 and feared, as I’m sure you did, too, that I’d left it too late to realise my dream of being a mother. My obstetrician had recommended a C-section not because I was too posh to push, but because my uterine muscles were likely too old to push. As a nurse laid Sadie on my chest, I was flooded with an all-consuming love and knew she was the most precious gift I’d ever receive. Naomi Gryn who became a mother at age 51, offered brutally honest advice for first-time mum Naomi Campbell. Pictured: Naomi's baby...

Nevada voters revoked an 18-year ban on same-sex marriage and became the first state to enshrine the right of gay couples to marry in its constitution. Question 2 on the Nevada ballot asked Nevadans if they supported an amendment that recognized marriage “between couples, regardless of gender.” With more than three-quarters of the votes counted as of this Thursday, 62% voted in favor of the amendment against 38% against, according to local authorities. The “Gender-Independent Marriage Amendment” also asked whether religious organizations and clergy retained the right to “refuse to solemnize a marriage.” “It feels good that we let the voters decide,” Equality Nevada president Chris Davin told NBC News. “The people were the ones who decided, not the judges or the legislators. This was direct democracy, this is how everything should be. “ In a 2002 voter referendum the Nevada Constitution was originally changed to define marriage as between “a man and a woman.” A summary by Telemundo 51. Same-sex marriage was not recognized in the state until 2014, after a ruling...
Cooking with hemp might not be as alluring as making weed edibles, but it's much more healthy and sustainable in the long term. And as government restrictions loosen and public knowledge of hemp grows, so does the plant's nutritious legend. Rich in protein, fiber and good fats, hemp is quickly becoming a regular part of plant-based dishes and diets, and has even gained the annoying "superfood" moniker. But how are we supposed to eat it? Shadi Ramey found herself wondering the same thing five years ago. Already a chef for a decade by 2015, she knew how to infuse food with cannabis (she still teaches private cannabis cooking classes), but incorporating hemp into a healthy diet was entirely different. After immersing herself in hemp cooking and even growing the plant for herself, the Boulder-based Ramey has developed a full set of recipes featuring hemp seeds, hearts, oil and protein, among other hemp-based ingredients. Her favorite meals at the moment? Hemp heart tabbouleh, hemp-mushroom chili and hemp-crusted mushroom tacos. You'll soon be able to cook Ramey's favorites and more hemp eats...
By Nneka Chile LAGOS (Reuters) - Marcellina Akpojotor weaves past thumping sewing machines, and leaves a Lagos shop with a bag brimming with discarded fabric. The colourful pieces, which would typically be burned or thrown into the Nigerian city's lagoon as waste, find a second life in the hands of the artist. Akpojotor, 31, creates portraits using discarded pieces of ankara, a brightly coloured African fabric that is ubiquitous from the slums of Lagos to high-powered meetings in the capital, Abuja. She says the meaning of the cloth helped fuel her work. "I was so inspired by those materials," she said. "In this part of the world we use them to celebrate all kinds of festivity: burial, naming ceremony, wedding". Nigeria's economy runs on oil, which pumps in billions of dollars, but its fashion, art and film are ascending, feeding national pride. Ankara, inspired by Indonesian batik, was originally manufactured in the Netherlands, but became wildly popular in West Africa in the 1800s. Global fashion houses have used it for nearly a decade, and prices for African artwork have risen...
