Elizabeth Taylor, one of the great Hollywood beauties, led an infamously scandalous life with many men and a mindboggling eight marriages.  But as the wife of a US senator living in the stodgy nation's capital, the glitzy star became a 'drunk and a junkie,' according to a shocking new biography surprisingly authorized by La Liz's own family. When Elizabeth was married to her seventh husband, Republican Senator John Warner of Virginia in the late 70s, she once summoned one of her adult sons from a previous marriage to her bedroom where she was clad only in revealing underwear. 'She was pretty f***ed up on something. She was seated on the edge of the bed in her underwear and had a syringe of Demerol, [an addictive opioid] in her right hand,' recalled Christopher Wilding, son of Taylor's second husband, the British actor Michael Wilding. 'She pointed to a spot on her thigh,' and asked him to inject the needle. When he couldn't, the Oscar-winning star 'steadied her hand and plunged the needle into her flesh.' Elizabeth Taylor married her seventh husband...
Don’t Worry Darling and Blonde may be the films that launched a thousand think pieces and/or gossip columns, but the act of sheer folly that is Amsterdam puts them both to shame. It is, in this writer’s opinion, the worst movie of the year—a “meandering mess crammed with poor performances from its starry cast… and more embarrassing liberal sloganeering than Lingua Franca’s sweater collection.” Directed by David O. Russell, a notorious hothead who once told police that he’d groped his niece’s breasts, Amsterdam tells the tale of a trio of World War I vets—Christian Bale, Margot Robbie, John David Washington—who reunite in 1933 to foil a fascist plot to overthrow the U.S. government. In addition to those three, it’s stacked with big-name stars, including Robert De Niro, Rami Malek, Anya Taylor-Joy, Chris Rock, Mike Myers, Zoe Saldana, Michael Shannon, Timothy Olyphant, Andrea Riseborough, Matthias Schoenaerts, Alessandro Nivola, and Taylor Swift, who delivers the least regrettable turn. It may be the biggest squandering of talent ever, and that’s really saying something given Hollywood’s long history of star-studded duds. Here are...
TOMMY FURY is worried about being disowned by brother Tyson and dad John if he loses to Jake Paul. That is according to Tommy's former opponent and Paul's current sparring partner Anthony Taylor, who claims the Brit boxer is "in over his head". 3Tommy Fury was scheduled to face Jake Paul but the fight was scrappedCredit: Reuters Fury and the YouTuber-turned-boxer were set to finally face off at Madison Square Garden in New York next month until the former was prevented from boarding a flight to the US by Homeland Security. Taylor insists the 23-year-old is not scared of Paul but is "not motivated" as he knows the consequences of losing, which include loss of sponsors and potentially being stripped of the Fury name. Taylor told Vegas Insider: "Tommy is in over his head. "He’s not afraid to fight Jake but he’s also not motivated because [he] knows the outcome. UNION SQUARE, Manhattan (WABC) -- It was a breaking point following George Floyd's murder -- a painful period in our city and country, but now out of such an ugly time, comes something beautiful. They sit in the southern part of Union Square - statues of George Floyd, John Lewis, and Breonna Taylor."The exhibition is entitled "See Injustice" -- in one way or another, each of these individuals saw injustice," said artist Chris Carnabuci. Each statue weighs about 1,000 pounds and is made of 200 thinly-cut slices of African Mahogany, then topped with a glistening coat of bronze paint. The exhibition is the brainchild of Confront Art, and is the organization's first installation."These faces, although so different in the movement , do relate and we needed them to all be together and now are so much more powerful having them together," said Lindsay Esheleman.Carnabuci hopes his work highlights the need for social change and using art as a way to spark civil discourse.Terrance Floyd is honored to have his brother's sculpture so prominently featured."This is the first time there's been a sculpture like...
Sitting in the first-class cabin of a plane flying to Phoenix, Arizona, in 1956, were an unlikely looking pair. In one seat was the dazzling blonde Marilyn Monroe, on her way to the set of the film Bus Stop. Sitting beside her was a short, bald man with a London accent. When their inflight meal was served, Marilyn pushed her tray away, saying: 'I have to watch my figure.' Quick as a flash her companion said: 'You eat, Marilyn, I'll watch your figure.' It was a quip that earned him a playful slap on the arm but nothing more because Donald Zec, a showbusiness writer for the Daily Mirror, was by then an intimate of the biggest names in Tinseltown. He criss-crossed the Atlantic in search of Hollywood gossip at a time when there was no impenetrable wall of publicists and minders to block access to the stars. As he put it, he was 'by turn war reporter, voyeur, ringside commentator and marriage guidance counsellor'. Zec, who has died aged 102, was one of the last remaining links to Hollywood's...

I searched for the senior senator from Virginia all day and never found him. I was in the subway tunnel which stretches between the Senate Office Buildings and the U.S. Capitol. One of the underground trams which whisk people from the Dirksen Senate Office Building to the Capitol rumbled by. And then I saw, behind the window pane of one of the tram cars, that distinctive shock of white hair. A deep, perfect cleft separated the hair as a part.  I knew I had found my quarry: Sen. John Warner, R-Va. Now, I had to outrace the tram to the Capitol subway station to grab Warner before he ascended the small escalator leading to the elevators. Once on the elevators, Warner would be gone, onto the Senate floor to make a roll call vote, two floors above. And I would miss my interview.  FORMER SEN. JOHN WARNER DEAD AT 94 I don’t recall what I needed to talk to Warner about that day in the mid-2000s when I worked in public radio. But I clenched my audio recorder and microphone...
Before John Warner served for 30 years in the U.S. Senate, he was the sixth of Elizabeth Taylor's seven husbands. The chairman of the powerful Armed Services Committee passed away on Tuesday at age 94. In his lifetime, Warner established himself as a celebrated Republican at the center of American politics. But before that, Warner famously married the violet-eyed movie star. The unlikely pair first met on a blind date in 1976 when the British ambassador asked Warner to escort Taylor to an embassy party honoring another Elizabeth – the Queen of England. The reigning monarch was visiting Washington at the time. Warner and Taylor married that December on his farm near Middleburg, Virginia. "Well, I thought we would get married, live on a farm, raise horses," Taylor told Larry King on his show in 2001. "… And I thought it would be all very sort of farmish, and jobby, horsey, and I could have animals, and I would go out and brand the cattle." FORMER SEN. NIGEL CALLAGHAN’S arms are outstretched, hands curved around the waist of soul singer Kiki Dee. Rod Stewart was there and Kiki Dee. If we’d won, it would have been the party to end all parties,” Callaghan says in his cockney accent. “This song came on and I said to Kiki Dee, ‘Can I dance wiv ya?’ It was just a laugh, it didn’t last long.” Don’t Go Breaking My Heart? It was too late for that. Hours earlier, Watford had been beaten 2-0 by Everton in the final at Wembley to end Callaghan’s FA Cup dream. In 2019, at the age of 56 and rather paunchy, the former...

Social media users are accusing John Mayer of being a hypocrite after he spoke out in support of Britney Spears — and they're demanding that he apologize to women he's hurt in the past. But Twitter users have no patience for his tears, pointing out that he 'has repeatedly treated women like s***' and observing that it's ironic that he would speak out on this issue given his past treatment of stars like Jessica Simpson and Taylor Swift. Miles Taylor, a former Homeland Security Department official who has endorsed Joe Biden for president, has revealed himself to to be "Anonymous," the self-described senior Trump administration official who two years ago wrote an op-ed about an internal "resistance" of government officials. CNN's Jake Tapper read a statement from Taylor, who is now a contributor for the cable news network, on Wednesday afternoon, six days away from Election Day. Taylor served as chief of staff to Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen. He was also a counterterrorism adviser to former White House chief of staff John Kelly. He worked at the DHS between the years 2017-2019 and endorsed Biden in August. On CNN, he has repeatedly denounced Trump and spoken about having other Trump administration officials come forward to do the same. Taylor penned the op-ed for the New York Times in September 2018 that spoke of an internal "resistance" group of officials working to stymie the president's worst inclinations. He wrote his tell-all book, A Warning, the following year with a similar message. Taylor promised he would reveal his...

(CNN)Civil rights activists, athletes and musicians are among the people Americans' have suggested be featured in President Donald Trump's proposed National Garden of American Heroes. The nominations, which were made public this week, follow an executive order issued July 3 in which the President called for a park to feature statutes of historically significant Americans. The order designated a task force to identify potential locations for the park, determine whether states or counties had statues to donate and provide recommends of American heroes who should be featured. After a brief hiatus, John Oliver returned to late-night to tackle a busy week of news — blasting President Donald Trump for promoting the racist conspiracy theory that Kamala Harris is ineligible to be vice president, and later going after QAnon-supporting congressional candidate Marjorie Taylor Greene. Oliver briefly addressed Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden’s choice for vice president before diving into the “depressing resurgence of birtherism” that followed. Only a few days after Harris was announced as Biden’s running mate, law professor John Eastman wrote an op-ed for Newsweek that mirrored the “birther” campaign against former President Barack Obama. Titled “Some Questions for Kamala Harris About Eligibility,” the article went after Harris’ eligibility for the vice presidency despite the fact that she was born in Oakland, California. “I heard today that she doesn’t meet the requirements,” Trump said of Harris during a briefing on Thursday. “And by the way, the lawyer that wrote that piece is a very highly qualified, very talented lawyer. I have no idea if that’s right.” “Oh, I’ll tell you if it’s right: it f*cking isn’t.” Oliver shot back after playing the clip. “And it’s...
