Aaron Judge and the San Francisco Giants have been linked in rumors for months. Here’s why it could actually happen this offseason. For months, speculation in league circles has been that the San Francisco Giants pose the biggest threat to sign Aaron Judge away from the New York Yankees. Judge grew up near the Bay Area. He grew up a Giants fan. The team has money to spend and needs a power-hitting outfielder. The fit makes perfect sense. So the news that Judge is in San Francisco to meet with the Giants on Tuesday, as first reported by Jon Morosi of MLB Network, came as little surprise. But it added further credibility to the thought that the Giants are serious about pursuing the 30-year-old superstar outfielder. The Giants are in arguably the best position to make a significant splash in free agency as any team in baseball. Their current 2023 payroll is around $133 million, according to Roster Resource, when the team has recently had payrolls that hovered around $200 million. They have just over $20 million on the books...

Team USA fans have labelled Gregg Berhalter as 'insane' for leaving attacking star Gio Reyna on the bench against Wales and accuse him of 'blowing a win on the biggest stage' following the team's 1-1 draw in Doha.  Timothy Weah, a son of former FIFA Player of the Year and current Liberian President George Weah, scored after a pass from Christian Pulisic in the 36th minute to break the deadlock for the Star and Stripes, considered as the second youngest team in Qatar.  Back in the World Cup after missing the 2018 tournament, the US appeared headed to victory before Walker Zimmerman plowed down Bale from behind with the Welsh star's back to the goal in the 82nd minute. You can’t win an NBA game in the first quarter, but the Warriors came awfully close Sunday night in Houston. The Warriors were putting a whooping on the Rockets. The kind of whooping once synonymous with the Warriors. Klay Thompson couldn’t miss, scoring 20 points in the first quarter, and the Warriors put 40 on a lowly and young Rockets team, taking a 12-point lead into the second quarter. It looked like the game was going to be easy work. That 12-point lead lasted less than three minutes into the second quarter. The Warriors’ second unit had failed again. Sunday’s second quarter was the Warriors’ biggest issue in a nutshell. And what Warriors coach Steve Kerr did the next time the second unit was called upon to play — the start of the fourth quarter — showed how Golden State can solve this massive issue. Steph Curry was on the bench for the first 5:33 of the second quarter. The Warriors were outscored by 13 points during that stretch, making 1-of-13 shots, committing four fouls, and turning the ball over...
Win McNamee/Getty Images Former President Donald Trump remained the target of blame for many in both the media and the Republican establishment for the GOP’s lackluster performance in the 2022 midterm elections on Tuesday. One of the most notable – and harsh – critics of Trump since Election Day has been media properties owned by Rupert Murdoch, the right-leaning media mogul whose properties helped propel Trump into the presidency in 2016. On Wednesday night, Murdoch’s flagship business publication, The Wall Street Journal, denounced Trump in an editorial dubbing him the GOP “biggest loser.” “What will Democrats do when Donald Trump isn’t around to lose elections?” the editorial board asked after noting Trump has “now flopped in 2018, 2020, 2021, and 2022.” “ We have to wonder because on Tuesday Democrats succeeded again in making the former President a central campaign issue, and Mr. Trump helped them do it,” the board added, parroting many political observers who argued Trump’s flurry of activity ahead of the election drove Democrats to the polls. The editorial board went on to list all of the...
Democrats faced one of their biggest losses in the House as Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee chair New York Rep. Sean Patrick Maloney conceded Wednesday morning to his Republican opponent.  It's rare that a Democrat campaign head loses their own reelection. In fact, a sitting House campaign committee chair from either party has not lost reelection since 1992.  Shortly after a press conference on his loss, the Associated Press called the election for Republican Assemblyman Mike Lawler. 'I don't like to lose, but my opponent won this race and he won it fair and square,' Maloney told reporters at DCCC headquarters in Washington, D.C. on Wednesday. 'And that means something. So I'm going to step aside.' Maloney said that he spoke with President Joe Biden to report that 'Democrats stood our ground' 'We believe November 8, 2022, will be a signature date in American political history,' he added. Despite stronger-than-expected performances for Democrats across the country, Maloney's loss is a hit to the party as they fought to hold onto this already slim majority in the House. Maloney was the man charged...
Republican United States Senate nominee Herschel Walker of Georgia claimed to Fox Business host Maria Bartiromo on Sunday that the most imminent dangers to the survival of American democracy are fringe social issues that the GOP exploits to rile up its right-wing base. "How are you feeling now forty-eight hours away?" Bartiromo asked Walker. "Well, I feel pretty good, you know, when you have a president talking about the biggest threat to democracy is, seem to be electing a Republican, but I want everyone out there to listen to me. The biggest threat to democracy is to have him at the White House," Walker declared, referring to President Joe Biden. The View's Sunny Hostin compared Republican women to "roaches voting for Raid" on Thursday. "What’s also surprising to me is the abortion issue. She was interrupted by Alyssa Farah Griffin, who accused Hostin of insulting voters. WATCH: RON DESANTIS CUTS AD FOR UTAH SEN. The hosts further discussed other important issues in next week's midterm elections, namely inflation and crime. While agreeing that Democratic candidates are not pushing a convincing message in response to crime concerns, Joy Behar said that increases in crime are due to weak gun laws. Sara Haines claimed that Democrats are not soft on crime, as Republicans are painting them, but that their messaging is falling flat. Haines added that her biggest issue in...
The White House was forced into an embarrassing Twitter climbdown on Wednesday, deleting a tweet that claimed President Joe Biden was responsible for seniors getting the biggest increase in Social Security checks in a decade. As fact checkers were quick to point out, the increase is based on the rate of inflation and required by law. At first, Twitter added a note to the original Monday afternoon tweet.  By Tuesday lunchtime the message had been deleted. The trouble began with a tweet from the official White House account.    The White House claimed President Joe Biden was responsible for a record increase in Social Security checks. In fact, it was an automatic adjustment triggered by record inflation 'Seniors are getting the biggest increase in their Social Security checks in 10 years through President Biden’s leadership,' it said. Part of that is true. Next year Social Security benefits will rise by 8.7 percent next year, which is the largest cost-of-living adjustment since 1981.  Policy experts on Twitter were quick to suggest the Biden administration was claiming credit for something that happened automatically...

Simona Halep has been provisionally suspended after she tested positive for a banned substance during this year's US Open. In what is tennis' biggest drugs controversy since the Maria Sharapova saga, the Romanian world number nine's sample was found to have contained the blood-booster Roxadustat. She denied wrongdoing in a post on social media. Halep, a former Wimbledon champion, was beaten in the first round of the tournament in New York City by Daria Snigur of Ukraine. Sean O’Malley is looking to solidify his shot at a championship with a victory at UFC 280. UFC 280 is filled with important bouts across the card. Not only are two championships on the line, but contenders are looking to carve out a higher position in the rankings, hoping for a shot at a belt to come their way. Sean O’Malley and Petr Yan are two such individuals as they are set to face off against one another in a pivotal fight in the bantamweight division. “He [Yan] he was the only guy after the Munhoz fight, I went back to the UFC after that because it wasn’t a satisfying victory,” O’Malley said. “I know he was saying he picked that fight, I don’t believe that. I think he got bullied into it.” O’Malley is making his first appearance in the Octagon since UFC 276 where his fight with Pedro Munhoz was ruled a no-contest due to an accidental eye poke after almost seven minutes of action. President Joe Biden will try and turn the midterm conversation back to abortion on Tuesday even as voters say their top concern is the economy and high cost of living. Biden, in a speech to Democrats at Howard University, a historically black college in downtown Washington D.C., will tear into Republicans for wanting to ban abortion across the nation. 'The president will speak about the choice that voters face this November between Republicans who want to ban abortion nationwide, and Democrats who want to codify Roe into law to protect women’s reproductive freedom,' the Democratic National Committee said about the event. And he will vow that if Democrats retain control of Congress, the first bill he will send to the next Congress would codify abortion rights into law, a Democratic official familiar with Biden’s planned remarks told the Washington Post. In the wake of the June Supreme Court decision that overturned Roe vs. Wade, Biden and his team have repeatedly pushed the abortion issue as a way to try and rally their voting bloc in the November midterm election that will decide...
Chicago Bears players have the weekend off to regroup between Thursday’s loss to the Washington Commanders and their Oct. 24 trip to play the New England Patriots on “Monday Night Football.” As coaches and players reflect on the first six games of the season, our team of writers dig into four key topics surrounding the 2-4 Bears. 1. The biggest problem with the Bears offense is ________. Brad Biggs: Layered, which makes a solution problematic. The passing game is as bad as it gets in the NFL. The Bears are last in the league in completion percentage and last in net passing yards despite playing one more game than 30 teams. Justin Fields hasn’t played well enough. The offensive line hasn’t done a good enough job protecting him. The wide receivers are undermanned and have not played well enough. I would liken this to a chicken-or-egg discussion, but the problem is there are three causes to the passing game’s ineffectiveness and none of them offers simple in-season fixes. Fields is struggling to operate efficiently in the pocket when there is...
US rents rose by an average of 7.8 percent in September, meaning they are still a whopping 25 percent up since before the pandemic.  Wages have failed to keep pace, meaning that renters are 'feeling the squeeze' - despite the fact the new figure shows that price rises are actually starting to slow month-on-month.  Cincinnati saw the biggest rise in rent prices at an increase of 26 percent, whereas renters in Milwaukee paid on average 15 percent less in rent last month. Pittsburgh, Indianapolis, Nashville, and Portland are also some of the places in the US where rent prices are rocketing the most, according to Redfin.  And data shows that, along with Milwaukee - Minneapolis, Jacksonville, and Baltimore are other places in the country where rent prices are cooling, rather than increasing.   According to separate data from Relator.com, rents rose 7.8 percent in last month to a median $1,759, slowing from double-digit increases seen for more than a year. The data revealed that median US rents peaked in July, reports Bloomberg. The national median asking rent rose to $2,032 in July, up...
Jamie Grill | Getty Images 529 plans — tax-advantaged investment vehicles meant to help families save for college — are often misunderstood.  As a result, many families may be missing out on a significant savings opportunity. That's because savings in a 529 plan grow free from federal income tax, and withdrawals for qualified expenses are tax-free. Some states also offer similar tax advantages. Here are six common misconceptions about these plans:No. 1: Only parents can investPeople mistakenly believe that only parents can invest on behalf of a child, but that's not the case. Grandparents, aunts and uncles, or even someone unrelated can open an account on a child's behalf or contribute to that child's account, said Rachel Biar, assistant state treasurer of Nebraska who chairs the College Savings Plans Network, a repository for information about 529 plans. Family members could consider contributing to a 529 plan for a child instead of buying toys or other trinkets for birthdays and holidays. To make it easy, many 529s provide family and friends the opportunity to contribute to an account online, through the...

Italians head to the polls for general elections on September 25, 2022.Emanuele Perrone | Getty Images News | Getty Images Italy's voters head to the polls on Sunday in a snap general election that is likely to see a government led by a far-right party come to power, marking a massive political shift for a country already dealing with ongoing economic and political instability. Polls prior to Sept. 9 (when a blackout period began) showed a right-wing coalition easily winning a majority of the seats in the slimmed-down lower and upper houses of parliament. The coalition is led by Giorgia Meloni's far-right Fratelli d'Italia (Brothers of Italy), and includes three other right-leaning parties: Lega, under Matteo Salvini, Silvio Berlusconi's Forza Italia and a more minor coalition partner, Noi Moderati. The Brothers of Italy party stands out from the crowd and is expected to gain the largest share of the vote for a single party. It's...
Sometimes, you don't want to be a part of the record books. There are the records you're known for because of something you did. Other times, you're part of the record books because you allowed someone else to write their name there. Take Mike Bacsik for example. Who is Mike Bacsik you may ask? Well, he was the pitcher on the Washington Nationals who gave up a record breaking 756th home run to Barry Bonds.  On Wednesday night in the Bronx, Pittsburgh Pirates pitcher Eric Stout was determined to not become another Mike Bacsik after facing Aaron Judge on the cusp of hitting a potential record-tying 61st home run. Instead, Stout pitched around Aaron Judge, walking him on four straight pitches with the Yankees up 11-2 and the game truly out of hand. None of the pitches came anywhere close to the plate. Yankees slugger Aaron Judge was unable to hit his 61st home run of the season to tie a record In his final at-bat, Judge faced Pirates RP Eric Stout, who pitched around him - preventing a hit...
United we grieved. The New York Times may have tried to present the UK to the world as some sort of simmering republican hellscape, divided by the cost of the biggest state funeral of all time. CNN and MSNBC might have tried to damage the legacy of Queen Elizabeth the Great with ancient history from the British Empire, ignoring her role as the monarchy's great moderniser, and shame the new King Charles with demands to deliver reparations. LBC's conspiratorial anti-British mouthpiece James O'Brien even claimed the queue to end all queues – the great Elizabeth line that brought the public together in unexpectedly magical ways to pay tribute to the Queen lying in state – was some form of confected establishment plot to portray mass grief (yes, really). But it made not a jot of difference to the national display of reverence, unity and, yes, very real grief we have collectively felt these past 12 days, culminating in today's spine tingling state funeral. DAN WOOTTON: United we grieved. The New York Times may have tried to present the UK to...
A no-fly zone has been put in place over London, with security forces deploying cutting edge technology to stop drones flying near the Queen's funeral. In what is set to be one of the biggest security operations in British history, Scotland Yard is pulling out all the stops to ensure today's service and procession go off without at hitch. At least 10,000 police officers, including 2,000 from around the UK, will be guarding central London and the 23-mile route to Windsor Castle today. On the ground many roads and bridges will be shut to traffic, and 23 miles of barriers have been put up to control crowds that are expected to reach into tens of thousands. In the skies no chances are being taken, with the Civil Aviation Authority putting a no-fly zone in place over the capital - this will include the prohibition of drones. To help enforce this security forces have set up top secret anti-drone devices in central London ahead of the service today, it is being reported.  A no-fly zone has been put in place over central...
Aussie NFL rising star Daniel Faalele - the league's heaviest player - is set to realise an unlikely fairytale when he makes his debut for the Baltimore Ravens on Monday morning (AEST). The 203cm, 174kg offensive lineman from Melbourne was originally picked by the Ravens as a project player in the fourth round of NFL draft in April, and many predicted he wouldn't play this season at all. But after impressing at training camp, and a spate of injuries to key personnel on the Ravens offensive line, Faalele is now set to remarkably suit up in Baltimore's game against the Dolphins.  It's a remarkable achievement by the Aussie to adjust so smoothly to the cut-throat world of NFL like a duck to water. Aussie NFL star Daniel Faalele, pictured with long-term partner Brianna Montgomery, is set to make his NFL debut on Monday morning This is despite Faalele only playing American football for the first time in 2017 after being discovered by a coach for the University of Hawaii while working out at a gym in Melbourne. After getting a taste of...
With 2022-23 marking the Miami Heat’s 35th season, the Sun Sentinel is unveiling a series of “5 at 35″ reflections from staff writer Ira Winderman, who has covered the entirety of the franchise’s 3 1/2 decades. After opening the series with a look at the five greatest games in the team’s history and then five franchise-altering moments, as well as the team’s biggest celebrity fans, today we look at five particularly notable big personalities in the locker room. No, not the biggest stars (we’ll get to those next week with our Top 5s at each position), but rather those who made you stop and take notice, even if they left you a bit perplexed. 1. Chris “Birdman” Andersen. He only spent two full seasons with the Heat (plus parts of two others), but the impression left by the ball-of-energy big man was quite literally indelible, with fans arriving in mock tattoo sleeves to replicate his head-to-toe body art, and some of the youngest (and a few of the oldest) fans fashioning their own Birdman-style mohawk haircuts. Anderson remained in character...
Republican lawmakers and officials are accusing Democrats of hypocrisy after the left heaped criticism on the governors of Texas and Florida for sending migrants to liberal strongholds - despite doing the very same thing themselves. Rep. Michael Waltz of Florida compared the outrage at Texas and Florida to the relatively muted response to 'ghost flights' of mostly underage migrants sent by the Biden administration in the middle of the night. 'Those are Biden administration/taxpayer-funded contracts with a number of NGOs that are flying these people in the dead of night to all of these same locations, then it's fine,' Waltz told Fox News late last week. 'But if you have [Florida] Governor DeSantis or [Texas] Governor Abbott or [Arizona] Governor Ducey doing it in the middle of the day when everyone can see it, then suddenly we're up in arms and having a collective political meltdown.' It comes after the Biden administration resumed charter flights in April of underaged migrants from the U.S.-Mexico border to Westchester, New York. While these flights operated during the day as well, the amount that...
A billionaire economist has warned that the coming Federal Reserve interest rate hikes will lead to the stock market plummeting by 20 percent. Ray Dalio, founder of the Bridgewater Associates investment company, joined predictions that the central bank would increase interest rates by another historical 75-percentage points, and that the year would end with interest rates at 4.5 percent. It would be nearly double from the current range of 2.25 and 2.5 percent, which Dalio wrote would plunge stocks by a fifth as Wall Street's three major indexes have already seen a more than 9 percent drop this past month.  Dalio added that the negative forecast would impact all levels of the economy, including American's 401ks, which will see a significant drop along with the stock market.  'This will bring private sector credit growth down, which will bring private sector spending and, hence, the economy down with it,' he wrote.  Ray Dalio (above), billionaire founder of the Bridgewater Associates investment company, warned that the predicted federal interest rate hikes would send stocks falling by 20 percent  Dalio and other economists believe...
A HEALTH expert has revealed the best time to eat the biggest meal of the day if you’re trying to lose weight. Dr Michael Mosley believes people should follow the old saying of “breakfast like a king, lunch like a prince, and dine like a pauper”. 2When you eat could also have a large impact on your healthCredit: Getty The thinking behind this is that you will burn more calories and improve your metabolic health, keeping your blood sugar levels and cholesterol in a healthy range. By eating this way, it fits in with the body’s natural daily rhythms, which are driven, largely, by our internal body clocks. Essentially, people need food first thing to help you power through the morning and you don’t want to fill up your stomach at night as your body is preparing to go to sleep. However, a study published in the journal Cell Metabolism made the surprising discovery that when you eat doesn’t seem to make much difference to how many calories you burn or how well your body processes the sugars and fats...
As the news of Queen Elizabeth II’s passing spread through the world, a CNN reporter caught a British local’s candid response to the loss of the monarch. As CNN’s Scott Mclean approached the young woman, he asked, “I just wonder what you thought, what your first reaction was when you heard the news that the Queen is under medical supervision?” “I mean, I think it’s pretty sad. Like when anyone kind of gets in that position, like, you wouldn’t want that to happen to your own family member. I’m not like the biggest fan of the Queen or just like the monarchy in general. So I wasn’t like that upset or overwhelmed by it. It was just something that happens, I guess,” she said bluntly. But the reporter pushed even further, saying, “You’re not the biggest fan of the monarchy. I wonder why?” “Mainly to do with like British, like colonial history, things like that, a lot of things that have gone on, which have been quite shady even like recently with like Prince Andrew and everything. So,...
Home prices across the U.S. recorded their biggest drop in 11 years by as much as 10 per cent, leaving hundreds of thousands of borrowers at risk of going underwater — and those who bought along the West Coast worst hit. Mortgage analytics firm Black Knight recorded a nationwide 0.77 percent drop in median home values between June and July, the biggest month-over-month drop since January 2011 in its latest monthly mortgage report this week. More than 85 percent of America’s biggest property markets are at least slightly off their peaks, and more than one in ten — mostly along the West Coast — are seeing prices drop by 4 percent or more. The firm’s president Ben Graboske said 31 consecutive months of rising prices came to an end in July. He warned of ‘volatility and rapid change’ in a market and worrying signs on the horizon. The California technology hub San Jose has seen the biggest fall in prices, with homes there losing 10 percent of their value over three months. More than one in ten homes have seen their value...
There were 357 scripted TV series that premiered in June hahaha. (I’m laughing to keep from crying.) It’s a number that I repeat often because it’s just so astounding. That’s so many shows! And it doesn’t even include reality TV, docuseries, or sports. Who can watch all of them? Who can even watch a percentage of them? It’s with that in mind that we realize a curated TV guide is more important than ever. I haven’t counted how many series are premiering this fall because, frankly, I’m not sure I can count that high. Moreover, I’m afraid of what my emotional reaction might be if I did. But I have put together this list of returning favorites, buzzy-sounding new titles, and shows that I personally just-plain enjoy and think you would, too. Here are 50 series that seem worth checking out—I bear no responsibility if any end up being terrible!—presented in chronological order. Queen Sugar Tues., Sept. 6 on OWN Oprah and Ava DuVernay gave us one of the best drama series of the last six years and you all...

A MEGALODON fossil collector dives up to hundreds of feet underwater to gather the teeth of the prehistoric monster that was the largest shark to ever live. Bill Eberlein, the founder of the Georgia-based Megateeth Fossils, spoke to The U.S. Sun about a near-death experience during one of his dives - and about finding hundreds of teeth in a two-week span. 3Bill Eberlein dives for Megalodon teethCredit: Bill Eberlein 3He sells the teeth in his Georgia-based outlet Megateeth FossilsCredit: Bill Eberlein 3Megalodon from prehistoric times seen in a 3D illustrationCredit: Getty Images - Getty He told The U.S. Sun that he'll typically find two or three Megalodon teeth during average dives, which often take place in shark-infested waters. Yet during one string of lucky dives, he found about 500 over the course of a couple of weeks in an area of the seabed that doesn't exist anymore. "I was diving in one of my normal spots but not doing very well," Eberlein said, "and I started drifting down the river and dropped into a short trench...
