Getty Las Vegas Raiders running back Josh Jacobs. The Las Vegas Raiders never need extra motivation to play the Los Angeles Chargers but they got it this week. Wide receiver Keenan Allen thought he was going to turn the team’s secondary into “barbecue chicken” this week due to the fact that they play a lot of man coverage. That wasn’t the case as the Raiders won 27-20 and Allen only had six catches in the game. Players for the Raiders were made aware of the wide receiver’s comments and the phrase “BBQ chicken” gained popularity after the game. Running back Josh Jacobs was dealing with a calf injury but said it was never a question that he was going to play and suggested that Allen’s comment had something to do with that. The Chargers star’s comments were directed towards the Raiders’ secondary so Nate Hobbs had a chance to respond to them. “Barbecue chicken, that’s all I gotta say,” Hobbs said after the game. It was all about BBQ Chicken in the #Raiders locker room following today's win...
The Miami Dolphins’ Week 15 game at the division-rival Buffalo Bills will be played on Saturday, Dec. 17 in an 8:15 p.m. kickoff, the NFL announced Monday. It was originally scheduled for Sunday. It was one of five matchups the NFL had left open to either take one of three slots that Saturday or play the following Sunday. Ravens at Browns will be played at 4:30 p.m. that Saturday with Colts at Vikings taking the early 1 p.m. game. Giants at Commanders was flexed to “Sunday Night Football,” while Falcons at Saints will be played Sunday afternoon. Opting for a Saturday AFC East showdown between the Dolphins and Bills creates a brutal turnaround for the Dolphins, traveling again to Buffalo with one fewer day to prepare after returning to Miami early Monday morning from spending more than a week on the West Coast for back-to-back games in California. The NFL also had an option to flex the Dolphins into Sunday night for a second consecutive week, with a Patriots-Raiders game originally scheduled for prime time on Dec. 18, but the...

Lionel Messi broke Aussie hearts as he spearheaded Argentina to a round of 16 victory at the World Cup - and he was walking for most of it.  The 35-year-old superstar, a seven-time Ballon d'Or winner for the best player in the world, may be getting on in age but he remains as wily as ever. Statistics from the FIFA Post Match Summary reports show Messi is leading all-comers in this World Cup for most distance covered at a walking pace (0-7km/hr). All four of his games feature in the tournament's top 10 list for walking distance, but given he has scooped up two Man of the Match awards it's safe to say it isn't exactly an indication of ineffectiveness.  Lionel Messi, pictured celebrating after Argentina beat Australia to advance to the quarter-finals on Sunday morning, proves what is between the ears is just as important as total distance covered The opposite, in fact, with England legend turned commentator Rio Ferdinand labelling his performance against the Socceroos 'the best we've seen in this World Cup so far, by a mile'. ...
Getty Vikings wide receiver Justin Jefferson responded to Jets corner D.J. Reed's postgame comments trashing the Vikings star. No receiver in the NFL has a bigger target on his back than Minnesota Vikings star Justin Jefferson. The third-year star has forced his way into Most Valuable Player conversations and was named the NFC Offensive Player of the Month for November — most notably for his 10-catch, 193-yard performance and one-handed catch in a win over the Buffalo Bills. Jefferson’s humbleness has been an asset to his success as the 23-year-old has remained on a path of proving the NFL wrong since he was the fifth wide receiver selected in his draft class. But when it comes to trash talk off the field, Jefferson wouldn’t tolerate any from New York Jets cornerback D.J. Reed Jr.Vikings’ Justin Jefferson Claps Back at Jets CB D.J. Getty Los Angeles Chargers WR Keenan Allen. The Las Vegas Raiders are officially on a roll. After a disastrous first quarter that saw the team have two turnovers, including an interception returned for a touchdown, the Raiders hunkered down. They dominated the Los Angeles Chargers for the rest of the game and the defense had one of its most impressive games of the season – only allowing one offensive touchdown all game. It was an excellent game in all three phases. Heading into the game, the Chargers didn’t seem worried about their ability to score on the Raiders’ defense. Wide receiver Keenan Allen was very excited to go against the team’s secondary. He referred to the team’s man coverage as “barbecued chicken” and said that “they’re dead.” Allen had a solid game with six catches for 88 yards and a touchdown but it certainly wasn’t the massive game he predicted. The Raiders were well-aware of the comments from the wide receiver and offensive lineman Jermaine Eluemunor made sure to throw shade after the game. BBQ Chicken — Jermaine...

Getty Marcus Mariota of the Atlanta Falcons. And that is likely a wrap for the Atlanta Falcons’ 2022 playoff hopes and dreams. After losing 19-16 to the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday afternoon, the Falcons are en route out of the hunt and fans are calling for rookie quarterback Desmond Ridder to finish the season. Starting quarterback Marcus Mariota struggled against an explosive Steelers defense as he completed 13 of 24 passes for 167 yards with one touchdown and one interception. The Falcons now enter their bye week and according to head coach Arthur Smith, changes will be made. “Everything’s on the table,” Smith told reporters after the game when asked about making the switch to Ridder. “It’ll be good to take a step back. There will be changes made. We have to look at everything.”Smith Remains Vague on QB Switch Despite Smith saying he was open to making changes, he remained vague on exactly what would be changing, so it still leaves the QB switch question up in the air but certainly not ruled out. “We just finished...
George Pickens is very upset over a lack of play calls called for him in Sunday’s game against the Atlanta Falcons. The Pittsburgh Steelers just barely eked it out over the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday 19-16, but it was a bit too close for comfort for a Steelers team that has performed quite well as of late and come to expect move offensively. Specifically, George Pickens was unhappy with the playcalling scheme on Sunday. Coming off the field during one failed offensive set, he yelled repeatedly to get him the ball, with a few expletives thrown in there toward the coaching staff for good measure. It followed a fumble from receiver Diontae Johnson that ended up being overturned upon review. CHEEKY Senegal appeared to put two fingers up at Fifa in their pre-match press conference today to preview Sunday's England game. The Lions of Teranga had been fined £8,700 by football chiefs for failing to put a player up for their session with the media the day before their win over Ecuador. 1Senegal’s third-choice goalkeeper Alfred Gomis was selected for the team's press conferenceCredit: AFP This time they did make sure one of their squad members was in attendance… but picked their third-choice goalkeeper. Alfred Gomis lined up alongside assistant Regis Bogaert, who was standing in for ill boss Alious Cisse. That is despite the stopper playing ZERO games for club side Rennes this season and having next to no chance of featuring against the Three Lions. At club level, Cisse is behind France stopper Steve Mandanda. It is expected that Chelsea goalkeeper Edouard Mendy will start in between the sticks for Senegal, having played in each game so far. Senegal qualified for the knockout rounds after they finished second in their World Cup group behind the Netherlands. However, they were...
BROMLEY's game with Yeovil Town was abandoned due to the death of a fan on Saturday. The National League game was halted by the referee in the 11th minute due to a medical emergency in the crowd. 1Bromley's game with Yeovil Town has been abandoned due to a medical emergency in the crowd. The match - which had an early afternoon kick-off to accommodate any potential England World Cup clash today - had previously paused in the sixth minute to allow a medical team to help with the situation. With the score at 0-0, Bromley confirmed the cancellation with a statement on Twitter. It read: "Today's game has been abandoned due to a medical emergency." Physios from both teams offered help before paramedics arrived shortly afterwards. The visitors from Somerset tweeted their support to the friends and family of the fan. Bryan M. Bennett/Getty Images Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Mitch Trubisky prior to a game against the Buffalo Bills on October 9, 2022. The Steelers appear to have their franchise quarterback of the future in Kenny Pickett. Yet stability at the quarterback position figures to remain elusive for a while longer. That’s the expectation of longtime Steelers insider Gerry Dulac, who believes the organization is headed for “another major shakeup” at quarterback during the upcoming offseason.Help Wanted: Steelers Will Need 2 New QBs in 2023“It is probably a safe bet to assume both Trubisky and veteran Mason Rudolph will not be with the team next season, forcing the Steelers to find two new backups for Pickett,” wrote Dulac in his most recent column for the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. Both have reasons to be upset with head coach Mike Tomlin, especially Rudolph, who didn’t get much of an opportunity to compete for the starting job this season. “He almost never got to work with the first-team offense in training camp and did nothing but play mostly with third-teamers and future waiver-wire cuts,...

Getty New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick. After recovering an onside kick with a little less than two minutes remaining in Thursday night’s game against the New England Patriots, it appeared the Buffalo Bills would have one final test — making a first down that would allow them to run out the clock. It turned out that Bill Belichick had other plans. The Patriots coach had all three timeouts remaining and could have forced the Bills to punt with a stop, giving New England a sliver of a chance while down 14 points. But he instead offered no resistance as Bills quarterback Josh Allen took a knee on three straight downs, running out the clock. After the game, Belichick explained why he decided to wave the white flag.Patriots Coach Ready for Game to EndSpeaking to reporters after the game, Belichick said he made a calculated decision to let the Bills run out the clock at the end of the game. The Miami Dolphins are ready to rule out one offensive tackle for Sunday’s game at the San Francisco 49ers, but not the other. Right tackle Austin Jackson won’t play, and Terron Armstead is unlikely to give it a go, officially listed as doubtful on the the team’s Friday injury report. Coach Mike McDaniel is leaving open a slight possibility for Armstead, the three-time Pro Bowl left tackle, to play through his pectoral strain at Levi’s Stadium. Armstead was seen participating in the team’s Friday afternoon drills on a limited basis before the team flies out to the Bay Area in the evening. “He has a diligent process,” said McDaniel after Armstead missed Wednesday and Thursday sessions. “We’re going to see how he is and adjust on game day, but we’ll give him his time. He’s earned it.” Armstead, who has also been playing through a lingering toe injury since the opener, left last Sunday’s win over the Houston Texans late in the first half with the chest ailment. The status of Miami’s tackles is vital this week as the Dolphins...

Caroline Kennedy greeted Prince William and the Princess of Wales backstage at the Boston Celtics game last night after bad weather delayed her flight from New York and prevented her from attending the opening ceremony of the Earthshot event.  John Kerry, who was also due to attend, remains unwell after contracting COVD-19 at COP27 in Egypt. He did not meet the prince and princess last night but hopes to be fit enough to attend the Earthshot Gala tomorrow. Kennedy, the daughter of President John F. Kennedy who is currently serving as the US Ambassador to Australia, said she experienced 'disrupted travel plans' due to the harsh weather lashing the east coast.  She rushed straight to the Celtics game upon arrival, where she greeted the royal couple. GAFFNEY, S.C. — Baseball Hall of Famer and former Giants ace Gaylord Perry, a master of the spitball, died Thursday. He was 84. Perry, a two-time Cy Young Award winner, died at his home in Gaffney at about 5 a.m. Thursday of natural causes, Cherokee County Coroner Dennis Fowler said. He did not provide additional details. The five-time All-Star began his career with the Giants, playing in San Francisco from 1962 to 1971 before being sent to Cleveland in one of the worst trades in Giants history. He won the Cy Young with Cleveland in 1972 and with San Diego in 1978 just after turning 40, and played for eight teams total over his 22-year career. Perry grew up on a farm in Williamston, North Carolina, plowing fields behind a mule when he was 7. He was a three-sport star at Williamston High School, averaging nearly 30 points a game in basketball. But baseball was his passion. In 1958, Perry received a $60,000 bonus to sign with the Giants. He was far from an instant success. On the morning of...

The Prince and Princess of Wales were lightly mocked online for their awkward appearance at the Boston Celtic's game Wednesday night as they continue touring the United States amid a series of controversies surrounding the royal family. Prince William and Princess Kate Middleton sat courtside at the game, where they could be seen chatting with one another, waving at fans and lightly clapping as Jason Tatum became the youngest player in NBA history to make 900 three-pointers. The royal couple were met with boos when they were first introduced by a stadium announcer and shown on the big screen, as some in the crowd could be heard chanting 'USA, USA.'  But they tried to keep brave face as they were seen smiling and chatting with Massachusetts Governor-elect Maura Healey and Boston Mayor Michelle Wu — though some online made note of how awkward the princess seemed as she slow clapped for the team. 'I really do love her, but is this her first time clapping??' former NBAer Rex Chapman tweeted, while blogger JC said: 'Good God, this is worse than watching people...
Getty New York Jets running back James Robinson making a play during a game versus the Buffalo Bills. The New York Jets won their seventh game of the season but at a cost. Veteran running back James Robinson was a healthy scratch for the game as the coaching staff decided to give undrafted free agent Zonovan Knight an opportunity. The former NC State product had a breakout performance with 103 total yards from scrimmage and in the process earned more of a look moving forward. In an exclusive ESPN story, Robinson sounded off on the situation and the coaching staff.James Robinson Is ‘Pissed off’ at Jets“Obviously, I didn’t come here not to play,” Robinson told Rich Cimini on Wednesday. “Obviously, they brought me here for a reason. I don’t expect anything unless I work for it, and I’ve been working my ass off. Here’s a look at how the Miami Dolphins (8-3) and San Francisco 49ers (7-4) match up in six key areas ahead of Sunday’s Week 13 game at Levi’s Stadium (4:05 p.m., Fox): When the Dolphins run: As the Dolphins get set to go against the NFL’s top-ranked run defense, they are coming off a discouraging game on the ground against the league’s worst run defense, the Texans. Miami could only muster 2.5 yards per carry against Houston after having its best rushing effort in the previous outing against Cleveland. Running back Raheem Mostert wasn’t there for the Dolphins, though, and he’s expected to be back from his knee injury this week. He and Jeff Wilson Jr. will face their former team in San Francisco. If left tackle Terron Armstead is unable to play, that hurts Miami’s ability to run to his side as his steamrolling run blocking will surely be missed. Fred Warner, a Pro Bowl linebacker in 2020, leads the 49ers in the heart of that defense with 82 tackles. Outside linebacker Dre Greenlaw is right behind him with...
The Princess of Wales appeared typically elegant in a blue vintage Chanel jacket as she joined Prince William at a Boston Celtics basketball game during their first day in the US. Kate, 40, looked perfectly polished in the Chanel 1995 trimmed double-breasted garment, which featured CC-logo embossed buttons, when stepping out at the TD Garden stadium. The royal mother-of-three first wore the blazer in October this year, when visiting a former London 2012 venue at the Olympic Park to celebrate the 10th anniversary of sports charity Coach Core. She teamed the vibrant jacket with wide leg trousers on that occasion - but decided to opt for slim fitting black trousers and matching black heels for yesterday's ensemble. The Prince and Princess joined 20,000 basketball fanatics to cheer on the Boston Celtics and promote the Earthshot Prize awards on day one in the city - but their first trip to the US in eight years has been overshadowed by a racism scandal rocking Buckingham Palace. William and Kate arrived in Boston just hours after the Prince's own godmother, Lady Susan Hussey, a former lady-in-waiting to the late Queen, was accused...
The Knicks had them on the ropes. It was an unexpected turn of events at MSG since the opponent, the Bucks, are the elite of the Eastern Conference and a legitimate title contender. But the scrappy Knicks had the edge late Wednesday with Giannis Antetokounmpo fouled out and multiple opportunities to take the lead. But they blew it. The Knicks missed two critical free throws in the final minute, and Grayson Allen buried the biggest shot of the night — a 3-pointer with 30 seconds remaining to break the tie — allowing the Bucks to escape with a 109-103 victory. Antetokounmpo was dominant with 37 points, seven assists and 13 rebounds, but he committed his sixth foul with one minute remaining and the Bucks leading by two. Jalen Brunson, who has been great for the Knicks overall but is struggling in clutch moments, then missed a free throw that would’ve given the Knicks a lead with 48 seconds left. RJ Barrett also missed a potential tying trey in the final 30 seconds. The clutch bucket never arrived and the Knicks (10-12),...
Kansas City Chiefs safety Justin Reid turned up the temperature for the upcoming game against the Cincinnati Bengals when throwing shade at Tee Higgins. The Week 13 slate of NFL games features a rematch of the AFC Championship Game between the Kansas City Chiefs and Cincinnati Bengals. Both teams faced off twice, with the Bengals winning both, including the conference title to make it to Super Bowl 56. Ahead of the big game, there is some drama brewing. While speaking with the media on Wednesday, safety Justin Reid threw some shade at Bengals wide receiver Tee Higgins, saying “I’m going to lock him down.” But that wasn’t before he mixed up his name, saying it was “Higbee” and then correcting it to Higgins. Reid later clarified his comments in a tweet, saying he meant to reference tight end Hayden Hurst in regards to man matchups. But, Reid ended his tweet by saying “nonetheless, any and everyone still getting locked up.” The video below comes courtesy of PJ Green of Fox 4 News Kansas City. Tbh, I meant Hayden Hurst* for...

Pittsburgh Steelers running back and former Alabama Crimson Tide player took a shot at the Georgia Bulldogs’ National Championship win last season. The Georgia Bulldogs held the No. 1 spot in the latest College Football Playoff rankings entering their SEC Championship Game against the LSU Tigers. If they are to win, they’ll surely lock in the top spot in the Playoff, as they look to defend their national championship. When it comes to Georgia, there’s no love lost when it comes to Alabama players, former and present. Pittsburgh Steelers running back and former Alabama player Najee Harris was asked about Georgia, considering rookie wide receiver and former Bulldog George Pickens cited all of the defensive talent he had to practice with in the program. That is when Harris decided to throw some jabs at Georgia. The video of Harris’ comments come in ESPN’s Brooke Pryor’s tweet below: In answering a Q about George Pickens’ observation that he practiced vs. first-round defensive talent at UGA, Najee Harris called Georgia’s natty “weak ass” bc Bama receivers were hurt. Pickens told me:...
Nets star Ben Simmons will miss at least the next three games with what the team is calling a left lateral upper calf strain. He will be reassessed after Sunday’s matchup against the Boston Celtics, after which the Nets have two off days before hosting the Charlotte Hornets the following Wednesday. Simmons left Monday’s matchup against the Orlando Magic at the top of the second quarter with what the team called soreness in his left knee. It’s the same knee that endured swelling at the beginning of November. Simmons ultimately had fluid drained from the knee and missed three games before returning to the court. Simmons’ injury came playing the second game of a back-to-back after logging 34 minutes in the win against the Portland Trail Blazers. Head coach Jacque Vaughn said the injury was due to the load Simmons is being asked to carry after missing the entire 2021-22 NBA season, then getting off-season back surgery. “He hasn’t had this amount of accumulation of games over a period of a long time,” Vaughn said after the Magic game. “Talked...

Getty Montrezl Harrell #5 of the Philadelphia 76ers. At the start of training camp, most eyes were focused on two Philadelphia 76ers players: James Harden and Joel Embiid. Both men were the unquestioned No. 1 and No. 2 players on offense. The Sixers’ season would predictably rise and fall on their play and availability. In short, if this was to be Philadelphia’s year, then it would necessarily need big performances from its two best players. But there’s another pairing that’s going somewhat under the radar for those outside the City of Brotherly Love so far this season. When the Sixers signed Montrezl Harrell at the end of the summer, it was expected that he, the former Sixth Man of the Year, would get the nod as Embiid’s backup. But after a wretched start from Harrell and an injury-plagued one from Embiid, it’s Paul Reed who’s been getting more looks at the position. And according to Rich Hofmann of The Athletic, even after Embiid’s reintegration into the lineup, it should be Reed who gets the lion’s share of backup minutes,...
