Mike White won the battle of the backups Sunday at MetLife Stadium. The New York Jets quarterback, filling in for benched starter Zach Wilson, threw for 315 yards and three touchdowns in a 31-10 victory over the Chicago Bears. Trevor Siemian, who started in place of injured Bears starter Justin Fields, completed 14 of 25 passes for 179 yards with a touchdown and an interception on a wet afternoon in New Jersey. Siemian was the starting quarterback, then the backup, then the starter in the 90 minutes leading up to the game. A Bears media relations staff member told reporters about 50 minutes before the game that Siemian suffered an oblique injury in pregame warmups, and the team instead would turn to third-string quarterback Nathan Peterman. But the Bears changed their tune about 40 minutes later, saying Siemian might play. He played the entire game. In the second half, the Bears didn’t get into Jets territory until early in the fourth quarter. Down by 21 points, they went for it on fourth-and-5 from the 27-yard line, but Lamarcus Joyner nearly...

After a decade of being in the doldrums, the New York Jets and New York Giants are reviving football — and hope — in the Big Apple. It’s been a long, miserable decade of New York football. One filled with a new, ugly stadium, private seating licenses and a ton of losing. Yet the lack of aesthetic charm and a rising cost to attend games on windy Sundays in the Meadowlands wouldn’t hurt so much if the product didn’t feel like a cheap knockoff. For years, that’s what fans in New York — and yes, New Jersey, also fans of New Jersey — have endured. In the 10 seasons from 2012-21, the New York Jets and New York Giants combined to go 116-206 with one playoff appearance, zero postseason wins and eight head coaches. They’ve suffered through 19 different starting quarterbacks — 13 of them for Gang Green. But suddenly, and unexpectedly, things have turned. Through six weeks, the Jets and Giants are both in playoff position. They’ve combined for a 9-3 record. Big Blue has been turned around seemingly...

Donald Trump baffled his audience at a rally in Wilmington, North Carolina Friday night, going off on a bizarre tangent to give his thoughts on the New York Jets' last NFL game. The 45th President took to the stage for a Save America rally ahead of the midterm elections, discussing all things immigration, crime, the 2020 election - and, strangely, the New York Jets' win over the Cleveland Browns last Sunday.  'The Jets game last week,... so there's like a minute and 37 seconds left, they're down by 13 points and they were having a tough game, and they don't even have the ball,' Trump began, with onlookers blankly awaiting the relevancy of New York's Week 2 win. 'I think the chances of them winning was one one-hundredth of one per cent, and nobody would take the bet. 'They got some kind of fumble, they threw a long pass it was caught, they got to seven... and then they got an onside kick, this took place over like about a minute and a quarter. 'They received... they got an onside kick,...
Welcome to FanSided’s 2022 NFL preview! It’s time to look into our crystal football and take a glimpse at the New York Jets season prediction. The New York Jets are coming off a 4-13 season in which the team experienced its fair share of growing pains. With such a young roster, the Jets were never expected to compete in 2021, but it’s safe to say that the team fell slightly short of expectations. Injuries decimated whatever depth the roster had and an underwhelming rookie campaign from quarterback Zach Wilson ultimately ruined any hopes of a surprise campaign. Going into 2022, however, the hope is that Wilson and the Jets can take a step toward being a competitive football team. The roster is much-improved and many see the Jets as a dark-horse team to succeed this season. That said, they’ll have to prove themselves on the field first.New York Jets 2021 season in review 4-13 record 4th place in AFC East Didn’t Qualify for Playoffs Few were expecting the Jets to compete for a playoff spot in 2021. Exiled NFL star Antonio Brown knows his decision to storm off the field against the Jets, which cost him his contract with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, was 'unnecessary and unprofessional'.   Brown has a history of disciplinary issues having been on multiple teams but the Bucs drew the line after he ejected himself from the game against the Jets earlier this month.  In the third quarter of the Jets game, following an argument with head coach Bruce Arians and heated discussions with team-mates, Brown, 33, bolted from the sidelines and removed his jersey before jogging off the field.  'It probably wasn't necessary or professional,' Brown admitted to TMZ on Monday, having headed to Los Angeles to hang out with music artist Kanye West.  As league and Tampa officials were left stunned at his latest on-field outburst, Brown chose to stay in, rather than out, of the limelight by partying in New York City.  Brown was seen with rappers Meek Mill and Fabolous just 24 hours after his release from the Bucs. Odell Beckham Jr. and the New York Jets…so crazy it just might work? Geoff Magliocchetti October 14, 2021 Share on facebook Facebook Share on twitter Twitter Share on reddit Reddit The last thing the New York Jets need is a distraction, but the new offensive era could use an established top option at receiver. Odell Beckham Jr.’s time working with the resurrection of one downtrodden franchise could be coming to an end. Could he assist in a new one via a return to East Rutherford? A report from Jeff Howe of The Athletic hints that the Cleveland Browns could be moving on from the former New York Giant, who has failed to match the hype that surrounded 2019’s blockbuster trade that led to a blue-to-orange makeover. Beckham earned 1,035 yards in his first season in Cuyahoga County but an ACL injury limited him to only seven games of Cleveland’s first playoff run since 2002. He missed the first two games of this season while recovering from last year’s injury and earned 77 yards...

Welcome back to the NFL preseason: where everything’s made up and the points don’t matter. After a year off, the NFL restored nirvana for the hot take artists of social media last week through the resumption of the summer exhibition slate. Last Saturday was particularly blissful for the premature prognosticators, as the four of the five quarterbacks chosen in the first round of last spring’s draft donned their game jerseys for the first time. The outlier, New England’s Mac Jones, was perhaps too busy penning his Hall of Fame speech after social media put him in Canton after his own debut on Thursday against Washington. New York Jets: The importance and symbolism of the right tackle battle Geoff Magliocchetti August 13, 2021 Share on facebook Facebook Share on twitter Twitter Share on reddit Reddit As the New York Jets continue to seek clarity on the offensive line, an intriguing battle for snaps has emerged between two veterans. Addressing the offensive line is the football equivalent of having a salad: no one wants to do it. Everyone would rather have a tasty cheeseburger with a side of fries, downing it with a cold beverage…i.e. add a flashy skill player, one whose antics can become a staple in the pregame hype videos played on stadium videoboards. But, at the end of the day, the consumer knows deep down that adding a blocker or keeping up on their fruits and vegetables will lead to its long-term survival and prosperity. Richardson, 30, has spent the past four years in Seattle, Minnesota, and Cleveland after his Jets career ended with a trade to the Pacific Northwest prior to the 2017 campaign. Should the Jets stage a reunion, allowing fans to break out their old No. 91 jerseys? ESM investigates… Why They Should Though Richardson never reached the heights he hit in New York, he still proved to be serviceable, especially in terms of pressure....
New York Jets: Sam Darnold and Zach Wilson can’t mix By: Geoff Magliocchetti March 30, 2021 ShareTweetFlipRedditIf the New York Jets quarterback quandary is truly down to Sam Darnold and Zach Wilson, there must be no stalemate. There’s no telling exactly when the New York Jets started thinking of having someone other than Sam Darnold in their franchise quarterback role. The only facts behind the case are that the situation is active and will be resolved by the evening of April 29, when the team chooses second in the 2021 NFL Draft in Cleveland. But what if the situation stretches beyond April, into the warmer months? The only way to do that would be to keep Sam Darnold and draft Zach Wilson…a situation the Jets must avoid at every cost. No matter when this proverbial game of musical chairs began, some of the contestants have dropped out, opted to join other games, or both. One seat, that of the franchise quarterback role, remains, and it appears that two players circle it while...
New York Jets to open Athletic Care and Performance Department By: Geoff Magliocchetti March 11, 2021 ShareTweetFlipRedditThe New York Jets are seeking new ways to conquer the rash of injuries, opening a new Athletic Care and Performance Department. We have hired Dr. Brad DeWeese to head our new Athletic Care and Performance Department. "I want the New York Jets Athletic Care and Performance department to be the leading player development department in the NFL." — New York Jets (@nyjets) March 11, 2021 The New York Jets announced the ongoing development of an Athletic Care and Performance Department on Thursday. Proceedings will be overseen by Dr. Brad DeWeese. “After a thorough review of our sports performance areas, it became clear that in order to maximize our player’s health, safety, and effectiveness on the field, we needed to establish a centralized group that would better position our team for success,” Jets general manager Joe Douglas said in a team statement. “During our search for the right person to lead this group Dr....
The curious case of C.J. Mosley and the New York Jets By: Geoff Magliocchetti March 9, 2021 ShareTweetFlipRedditThe New York Jets’ $85 million man has played in only two games in the past two seasons, but there’s hope that the investment will pay off. From a human standpoint, C.J. Mosley’s tenure with the New York Jets, which began during the 2019 offseason, can’t realistically be called a bust. Medical calamities, exacerbated by the star-crossed nature of Jets football, have marred his two years in green, necessitating long layoffs. A groin injury limited him to two games in his debut year before he opted out of last season entirely in the wake of the ongoing health crisis. Neither of Mosley’s absences can be registered as excuses. Football is a violent game and injuries happen. A whole separate conversation can be had over whether oft-injured names like Sam Bradford, Robert Griffin III, and Ki-Jana Carter can rightfully be labeled disappointments as well. As for 2020, Mosley was one of many throughout the...
New York Jets: 8 Robert Saleh/Joe Douglas quotes (and what they mean) By: Geoff Magliocchetti March 4, 2021 ShareTweetFlipRedditFirmly established in their roles with the New York Jets, Robert Saleh and Joe Douglas addressed the offseason ahead. With their traditional media meetings at the NFL Scouting Combine kiboshed by the ongoing health crisis, Robert Saleh and Joe Douglas, the respective head coach and general manager of the New York Jets took to Zoom on Wednesday to discuss the team’s upcoming offseason. The activities officially got underway with the release of three-year defender Henry Anderson on Tuesday night. ESM highlights X quotes from Douglas and Saleh, and ponders their meaning, as the teandem’s fateful first offseason together looms large on metropolian calendars… (Quotes via notes provided by the Jets) “In terms of Marcus, we have had productive conversations with his representatives. Similar to the last question I answered, our stance on Marcus hasn’t changed as well. Marcus is a valuable member of this organization, someone that started his career here, who’s been...
New York Jets: The case for (and against) Alex Smith By: Geoff Magliocchetti March 4, 2021 ShareTweetFlipRedditThe inspiring story of Alex Smith won’t continue in Washington. Should its next chapters be written with the New York Jets? The roller-coaster story of Alex Smith has written its final burgundy chapter. Per Ian Rapoport and Kim Jones of NFL Network, Smith will be released by the Washington Football Team and become a free agent. The former top overall pick returned to the NFL this season after suffering a devastating leg injury in 2018 and played a role in guiding Washington to the NFC East division title, though another injury prevented him from partaking in their subsequent playoff game against Tampa Bay. Per Rapoport, Smith, set to turn 37 in May, has no plans to retire. It’s likely Smith won’t have much trouble finding a new destination. His release unto the market comes at a time where many teams are at a crossroads in their quarterback situation, both in the starter and reliable...
The Scientologist founder of a New York private equity firm and two of his associates have been charged with running a $1.8 billion Ponzi-like scheme that used money from thousands of clients to cover fake returns and pay for sports cars, private jets and a $30,000 birthday dinner. GPB Capital Holdings Chief Executive David Gentile, 54, and his business partners, Jeffry Schneider, 51, and Jeffrey Lash, 52, were all arrested on Thursday on conspiracy to commit securities fraud and other charges. They are accused of cheating more than 17,000 retail investors who were falsely promised steady returns on their investments.  Federal prosecutors say the Manhattan-based GPB told the investors that their investment returns would be funded by revenue from the firm's holdings, including a group of car dealerships, but a 'significant' portion of money was actually coming from new investors.  The trio are also accused of siphoning millions of dollars for themselves, including a Ferrari for Gentile and a $29,837 American Express bill covering 'David's 50th Bday'.  Gentile, a Scientologist who lives in Manhasset, New York, founded GPB back in 2013.  ...
New York Jets: 9 quotes from Robert Saleh (and what they could mean) By: Geoff Magliocchetti January 22, 2021 ShareTweetFlipRedditRobert Saleh made his first appearance as the New York Jets’ head coach on Thursday. ESM has the big takeaways. A new era officially dawned for the New York Jets on Thursday, as Robert Saleh made his first public appearance as the head coach of the New York Jets. Saleh appeared alongside Jets CEO and chairman Christopher Johnson and general manager Joe Douglas to make his first statements as New York’s green football boss. “When we met with Robert (Saleh), I was struck by his presence,” Johnson said, per video provided by the Jets. “He displayed an ability to engage with us in a virtual interview. He also clearly communicated a vision of this team that aligns with ours. When we met in person, it validated everything we believed following our initial meeting. Robert has shown through his journey here that he is a leader, one that will engage the entire team and will...
US official: Everything on table about possible UK travel ban Amazon closes NJ warehouse after workers test positive for coronavirus New York tabloids had a field day with Jets first win (and possibly losing Trevor Lawrence) The New York Jets were in the driver’s seat for the No. 1 overall pick in the 2021 NFL draft and the chance to take stud Clemson QB Trevor Lawrence. © Provided by For The Win But they somehow went on the road to visit the Los Angeles Rams and WON. It was a nightmare for Jets fans, although if they end up with Ohio State’s Justin Fields, it’s not the worst consolation prize. But of course the New York tabloids — as they always do —  had to cover the potential loss of Lawrence with their punny back covers. Let’s start with the New York Post, which did a play on the name of Lawrence Welk the bandleader and TV host. I’m not sure how many younger people would get that, but it’s a decent pun once you get it: The...
New York Jets linebacker Harvey Langi. AP Photo/Kyusung Gong The dismal New York Jets finally won a game. Unfortunately, their win could cost the Jets a shot at drafting Clemson quarterback Trevor Lawrence. As a result, Jets fans are furious. Visit Insider's homepage for more stories. The New York Jets finally won a game. In the biggest upset of the 2020 NFL season, the Jets beat the Rams on Sunday 23-20 despite entering the game as 17-point underdogs. Through 13 games, New York had been winless. You might think their fans would be thrilled that the lowly Jets had avoided a dreaded 0-16 season. You would be wrong. When they were winless, the Jets were in pole position to land the first overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, and with it, the right to draft Clemson quarterback Trevor Lawrence, who has looked like a generational talent through his collegiate career. But with their win, the Jets moved to 1-13 on the season, tied with the Jacksonville Jaguars for the worst record in football. Should both teams...
New York Jets: Is this the end of the road for Jordan Jenkins in green and white? By: Dylan Price December 19, 2020 ShareTweetFlipRedditJordan Jenkins has been regarded as the New York Jets‘ best pass rusher for the past few years. Jenkins was rumored to be leaving the team last season, but Jenkins came back for another year under Gregg Williams on a prove-it deal. Jenkins was projected to be the lead disruptor for the team this season. Instead, amongst all the bad on the team this year, his underwhelming performance has flown under the radar. His Poor Performance Last season, Jenkins hit career highs in sacks, TFLs, deflections and tied his career high in forced fumbles. He ended the season with 32 tackles, 8.0 sacks, 9 TFLs, 2 FFs and 3 deflections. The years before that, in 3 seasons, he showed consistent production increases in his pass-rushing stats. In his rookie year, he put up 2.5 sacks, 2 TFLs, and 3 QB Hits. Then, he had a sophomore jump slightly to 3.0...
The New York Jets have suffered a dismal run in the NFL over the past few seasons. The last time the Jets registered a winning record in the regular season was back in 2015 when they went 10-6. To find out the last time they made the Playoffs, one has to go back even further, all the way back to 2010. This season has been no different, as a matter of fact, it’s been even worse. 13 games into their season and they sit at the bottom of the AFC East with a 0-13 record. Even with such a track record, the Jets job remains a lucrative one for NFL coaches. Let’s dig deeper as to why anyone would want to hop on the Jets bandwagon. Tank for Trevor The Jets tanking this season will have serious implications for next year’s draft. Their complete washout so far puts them in place to draft the #1 overall pick in the next season. And if rumors are anything to go by, the Jets are in line to draft one of...
