Decorating for festivals and holidays is so much fun. When a new season rolls around, it’s also exciting to celebrate it with some festive adornments for your porch, doorway, or dining table. What is great is that you don’t need to spend too much money to make a really big statement. Lots of materials that would otherwise be sent to recycling can be jazzed up into a classy or kooky decoration. There are also lots of things that you can forage for, such as colored leaves, pinecones, and acorns, that make gorgeous, free, and very environmentally friendly decorations. Sometimes, it’s nice not to have boxes of holiday and seasonal decor to have to store away. Making things from natural materials or old bottles and cans means that you can compost or recycle your crafts once the season has passed. 1. Whether you are an adult or a child, Halloween can be loads of fun. Of course, the costumes and candy go a long way to making it so, but there are other contributors, too. It brings about a great sense of community, a reason for neighbors to get together, and a call for mutual silliness. It’s always been one of my favorites, in no small way due to my mother’s willingness to dress to the nines as a witch, stand on our driveway stirring a cauldron of non-alcoholic witch’s brew, and go all out with the decorations. Of course, these days — some twenty-odd years later — things are a bit different. A needed rise in environmental awareness has come to pass, and buying loads of disposable decorations seems not only impractical but also irresponsible. Luckily, to carry on my mom’s tradition, a deep love for doing it right and funky on Halloween, I’ve found a few great spooky decorations that can be made from recycled garbage. Side note: garbage bag decorations are all the rage for cheap DIY...

While the women at the inauguration were lauded for their impeccable style choices, Senator Bernie Sander's (VT-D) mittens became the talk of the town as the best sensible fashion at the Capitol.  The 79-year-old's wool mitten and signature brown coat stood in stark contrast to the long flowing overcoats and leather gloves sported by many in Washington on Wednesday, but social media quickly deemed his look just as trendsetting.   Even Rashida Tlaib (MI-D) shared that she wanted a pair of the mittens.  The 79-year-old's wool mitten and signature brown coat stood in stark contrast to the long flowing overcoats and leather gloves at the Capitol Even Rashida Tlaib (MI-D) shared that she wanted a pair of the mittens Bernie's look was quickly dubbed Vermont Dadcore Sen. LOS ANGELES (CBSLA) – Students in The Netherlands have taken the challenge of making cars more environmentally friendly to a whole new level. Introducing “Luca,” a bright yellow, sporty, fully functioning electric car built by a team of students at Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e) almost entirely out of recycled waste. “This car is very special because it’s made all out of waste. So, we use all different kinds of waste and also recycled waste,” project manager Lisa van Etten told CBS News. Luca’s frame is made from plant materials and recycled polyethylene terephthalate (PET) bottles. The body is made of hard plastics normally found in televisions, toys and kitchen appliances. The students used coconut fiber and horse hairs for the seats.
