A former Valley Transportation Authority bus driver who allegedly made shooting threats over an employee vaccine mandate will likely be barred from owning a weapon for another year. Parties on both sides of the case have agreed to lift the gun violence restraining order against Douglas Lofstrom on Sept. 22, 2023, according to Santa Clara County Counsel James Williams. The order also prohibits Lofstrom from owning any ammunition or magazines. A judge still needs to approve the stipulation but opposition is unlikely, said Williams. An initial gun restraining order was placed upon Lofstrom, 64, on June 17 after colleagues allegedly overheard him say there would be “some shooting” and “if I get fired today, you’re going to see me on the news.” He was arrested shortly after the incident and charged with a misdemeanor count of threatening crime with intent to terrorize. He pleaded not guilty on June 21. Authorities also searched Lofstrom’s Scotts Valley home near Santa Cruz for weapons but did not find anything. The comments came hours before a disciplinary hearing about Lofstrom’s vaccine status, though, he...

Getty 23XI Racing celebrates a win at Kansas Speedway. 23XI Racing’s Bubba Wallace won his second career NASCAR Cup Series race on September 11. This performance, as Denny Hamlin explained, showcased his improvements as a driver and his ability to battle back after mishaps. Hamlin, Wallace, and crew chief Bootie Barker met with media members after celebrating the organization’s third career win. Hamlin explained during the session that many of the teams dealt with setbacks, especially on pit road. He noted that Wallace was better at rebounding from these issues than many other drivers, which was a sign of his improvement. “I think a lot of people had a lot of issues on pit road,” Hamlin said. “Certainly, we were one of many. But I saw [Bubba] in the back of the pack just like we were, and he was able to get through the traffic faster than I was. And so that’s the pivotal point of the race where I think that he’s really improved in the sense of that. “Typically, when that happens — no offense...

A woman was filmed pepper-spraying a rideshare driver in July after she asked him to let her and her friends out of the vehicle.  New York City police say the incident occurred in the Bronx just before 5am on July 8 after the 23-year-old driver told the women they piled too many people into the car, and they needed to hitch another ride. But surveillance video shows the driver continued to speed through the neighborhood as the women begged him to let them out and stop the car, before they became physical. The video, released by the New York Police Department on Tuesday, shows at least one woman sitting on the rear passenger side asking the driver to 'open up the door.' A drunken Hudson County man took a swing at police after crashing his pickup truck in Little Ferry, authorities said. Francis J. Ciprian, 38, of West New York apparently left his girlfriend behind when he bailed out of the truck after it hit some containers on Gates Road near the Hackensack River shortly after 4 a.m. Aug. 28, police said. Officers responding to the crash were investigating when he approached them from up the street shouting obscenities, Little Ferry Police Chief James Walters said. Cyprian, who appeared drunk, was "yelling and walking around aimlessly in a hostile manner" while threatening the officers, the chief said. Noticing small cuts on his hands, apparently caused by barbed wire, they asked if he'd be willing to go to the hospital because he was a danger to himself and others in his condition. Ciprian refused, Walters said. His continuing "hostile, aggressive and disorderly" behavior prompted a call for aid from Moonachie police, the chief said. Ciprian continued giving his officers a hard time, the chief said, so they brought him in custody to headquarters....
A killer Hamptons hit-and-run driver who mowed down an 18-year-old had a slew of previous traffic offenses - including speeding tickets, a suspended license, and causing a head-on collision, DailyMail.com can reveal. Daniel Campbell, 20, has racked up a catalogue of reckless driving violations - one of which occurred just weeks before he ran over and killed Devesh 'Devu' Samtani on the Old Stone Highway in Amagansett on August 10, 2021. Campbell, who was 19 at the time, plowed his Honda Pilot straight into math and economics student Samtani, 18, while he had nine other people in his car before fleeing the scene.  But the man from Montauk, who was dubbed a 'driving menace', was spared jail and was instead given community service - in what the victim's parents believe is an appalling miscarriage of justice.  It's now been revealed that Campbell was involved in at least two crashes before the fatal night - including in February 2021 when he drove down a one way street in White Plains, New York, in the wrong direction. It happened five months before incoming New York University...

Tesla has demanded videos of their self-driving cars striking child-size mannequins to be taken down after they were posted by The Dawn Project, a group dedicated to getting Tesla's 'full self-driving' technology off the roads.  Tesla, the electric vehicle company owned by Elon Musk, sent a cease-and-desist letter over the commercial, which seemingly shows their cars in self-driving mode hitting child-size models at 20mph to demonstrate how dangerous the software allegedly is. Five people were killed in a horror car crash in Florida this weekend when a man who had his license revoked almost a decade ago smashed into them while driving the wrong way down the freeway.  Four women and one man lost their lives when 30-year-old Maiky Simeon, travelling east in the westbound lanes of the Palmetto Expressway close to Miami, drove his Infinti sedan directly into a Honda sedan at high speed at around 4:30am local time on Saturday. The passengers in the Honda remain unidentified by authorities, but GoFundMe pages and social media tributes suggest their names were Valeria Cáceres, Valeria Peña, Daniella Marcano, Briana Pacalagua and Giancarlo Arias. All five were aged 12-25 and died of critical injuries at the scene following the horrendous impact.  Simeon meanwhile escaped death but remains hospitalized after sustaining severe injuries as a result of the smash. Images of the scene released by Florida State Highway Patrol showed one car turned sideways on the road, barely recognizable due to the extent of the damage. The entire hood had folded in while both...
A dump truck driver miraculously survived a horrific rollover without severe injuries during a multi-vehicle crash that closed both sides of Route 287 for hours. The truck landed on its roof on the median guardrail -- heavily entrapping the driver -- during a pileup that involved two tractor-trailers and at least one other vehicle on the northbound highway in Mahwah around 11 a.m. Monday, responders said. It took firefighters about 90 minutes to extricate the driver, whose legs had been pinned in the crushed cab. He was conscious and alert while being taken to Hackensack University Medical Center with what multiple responders agreed weren't life-threatening injuries. At least one other driver was hospitalized. What happened to a dog who reportedly was also in the truck couldn't immediately be determined. Several ambulances responded along with fire engines, rescue squads and both local and New Jersey State Police. Some came down the opposite side of the highway. Heavy rain prevented a medical chopper from responding.  The crash spilled gravel onto the median. The southbound lanes eventually were reopened, but northbound Route 287...

No one likes looking for the best parking spot, so one woman decided to make her own — on the second floor of South Shore Plaza Police responded to the mall for a report of a vehicle that drove onto the upper level, Braintree Police said on Facebook. Upon arrival, officers found a Lincoln SUV stopped on the second floor of the mall. Several mall-goers were speaking with the female driver inside as well.  They determined the driver of the vehicle travelled 60 yards via the pedestrian bridge from the south garage, police said. Due to a recent accident, one of the safety bollards was missing and the mall sensor doors opened and allowed the car to pass through. Police told CBS Boston the woman appeared "confused" and that she met with a mental health clinician who took her to a local hospital for evaluation.  There was minor damage to the vehicle but no injuries were reported. While no charges have been filed, police said they are requesting the driver's license to be suspended.

(CNN)As racing driver Sam Schmidt tears around the historic Goodwood Racetrack in a McLaren 720S, reaching speeds in excess of 150 miles per hour, from the outside this looks like an ordinary practice session. He navigates the tight corners with ease, gliding around even as the heavens open to make the tarmac slick and slippery. Step into the car, however, and it is immediately obvious just how remarkable this track session is.Schmidt is quadriplegic and completely paralyzed below the neck, making the use of a steering wheel and peddles impossible. Instead, McLaren teamed up with American electronics company Arrow to produce the Semi-Autonomous Mobility (SAM) Car, which allows the former NASCAR driver to accelerate and brake by blowing and sucking on a tube -- called the "sip and puff" function -- and to steer by turning his head. After his life-changing injury in 2000, the thrill of racing was something Schmidt never thought he would experience again.Read More"For 22 years, I really had to rely on other people to do most of my daily tasks," Schmidt tells CNN Sport at Goodwood, UK....
