Getty Will the Pittsburgh Steelers give first-round quarterback Kenny Pickett his first start against the New York Jets? It may be a little early to look ahead to Week 4 but the New York Jets’ upcoming opponent just played their third game of the season on Thursday Night Football yesterday evening (Sept. 22). That, of course, is the Pittsburgh Steelers, who fell to 1-2 after losing to the Cleveland Browns. Considering the Jets defeated the Browns — wild circumstances aside — the natural assumption is that they’d have a shot of beating the Steelers in Week 4. The one major difference is that Week 4 is in Pittsburgh, although Gang Green did win in Cleveland. Still, it should be achievable and the latest from the Steelers organization could help the Jets’ chances, depending on your view of the situation.Steelers HC Mike Tomlin Sounds off on QB Choice vs. JetsDuring a postgame press conference on September 22, long-time Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin was asked whether or not he’d consider a quarterback change versus the Jets in Week 4....

With big days from Mike Yastrzemski and Joc Pederson and an immaculate effort from their bullpen, the Giants beat the Rockies, 3-0, on Thursday, to complete their first four-game sweep of the season. The Giants’ combined shutout — using six pitchers in their second bullpen game of the series — was their first at Coors Field since 2012 and their fifth time blanking the home team since the mile-high ballpark opened in 1997. Here are some takeaways. Thunder and lightning: Mike Yastrzemski and Joc Pederson teamed up to produce the Giants’ first two runs and turned in a pair of multi-hit efforts — while proving there are multiple ways to find success in the batter’s box. In a strange twist, Yastrzemski brought the power and Pederson brought the speed. Yastrzemski, who loves hitting at Coors (a 1.096 career OPS), hammered the hardest- and the furthest-hit balls of the game, resulting in a first-inning double and a sixth-inning shot. The double into the right field corner left Yastrzemski’s bat at 106.2 mph. The homer into the right-field seats traveled 425 feet,...

MILWAUKEE — The Yankees are expecting reinforcements soon, but with 17 games left in the regular season the question is do they have enough time to be a playoff contender. Saturday night, they didn’t look like it as Willy Adames and the Brewers beat them again, this one a 4-1 defeat at American Family Field. It was the second straight loss for the Yankees (87-58), who dropped the three-game series to the Brewers. It was their first series loss in their last four. Their lead in the American League East dropped to 4.5 games over the Blue Jays, who they will see in Toronto one more time this year. The Brewers (78-67) are playing for a National League wild card spot and have won three of their last four and seven of their last nine games. Aaron Judge did not hit a home run for the third straight game. He holds at 57, four shy of the American League record of 61 set by Yankee Roger Maris in 1961. The slugger is still on pace to hit 64 this season. Judge...

Downing Street today admitted that 'arrangements will vary' for world leaders amid claims Japan's Emperor Naruhito will be among those forced to take a bus to the Queen's funeral. Emperor Naruhito and his wife, Empress Masako, have been confirmed to be among the guests flying into London for Her Majesty's state funeral on Monday. They are set to be joined by other global heads of state such as US President Joe Biden, France's Emmanuel Macron, Canada's Justin Trudeau and Brazil's Jair Bolsonaro. Leaked Government documents have revealed plans for world leaders to travel en masse in a bus to Westminster Abbey for Monday's service, rather that using private cars.  British and US officials have since played down the prospect of Mr Biden having to travel on a bus into central London. They suggested the US President would still be able to use his armoured vehicle dubbed 'The Beast' while travelling in the capital. But it has now emerged that Emperor Naruhito will be among those travelling to the funeral on a bus. Emperor Naruhito and his wife, Empress Masako, have been confirmed to be...

No matter how the final month of the Orioles’ season plays out, at least some of Baltimore’s prospects will experience playoff baseball. The rapid promotions of Dylan Beavers, Max Wagner and Jud Fabian have three 2022 Orioles draftees in position to feature for High-A Aberdeen as it begins its League Championship Series against Brooklyn this week. Double-A Bowie has one more week of its season before playoffs begin. The trio of Beavers, Wagner and Fabian — selected with Baltimore’s second through fourth picks — arrived with the IronBirds this month after rolling through the Florida Complex League and Low-A Delmarva. The rise in levels has challenged the group, with Beavers’ .661 OPS the best of the bunch, but the promotions give them an extra week of professional experience — the Shorebirds ended their campaign Saturday as Sunday’s game was rained out. The Mets are getting whole again. Luis Guillorme is back with the Mets for Monday’s game and was added to the active roster again, though he was not in the starting lineup. Guillorme missed nearly a month with a moderate strain in his left groin, which he sustained on Aug. 14. “We had some guys do a good job in his absence, but there’s a lot of things he brings,” Buck Showalter said of Guillorme. “One of the things you talk about with players when they’re on your club, or you’re trying to acquire them, is do they make their teammates better? Having Luis here kind of gives us a nice safety net in a lot of places.” Guillorme has played every infield position this season except for first base. His absence led the team to call up infielders Brett Baty and Deven Marrero in mid-August. Baty dazzled in his first game but then fell into predictable rookie struggles before hurting his thumb. Marrero, always more of a “just in case” player than an actual part of the team’s long...

Okudah played well in Week 1 in spite of some of the struggles of his defense in other aspects. Perhaps the best news overall was the fact that Okudah was able to have a healthy day on the field. At one point, Okudah was forced to leave the field near the end of the first half. Getty Andrew Wiggins of the Golden State Warriors attempts to defend the LA Lakers' LeBron James during the 2022 NBA All-Star Game. Some late-season slumpage and free-throw woes notwithstanding, what Andrew Wiggins was able to accomplish for the Golden State Warriors last season was a feat worth remembering. Whether it was helping Steph carry the club offensively during the first half of the campaign or his two-way brilliance in the playoffs, Wiggins’ contributions were integral to what the Dubs ultimately accomplished. Which is why, even as he benefited from a K-pop bump in the voting, the former No. 1 overall pick’s maiden voyage as an NBA All-Star meant so much. Regardless of how one feels about him having started in the February classic, there’s no doubting that Wiggins shed some labels from his T-Wolves days, owned his role and earned the nod. Alas, the Warriors wing, along with a handful of other first-timers — Darius Garland, Fred VanVleet, Jarrett Allen, LaMelo Ball and Dejounte Murray — will probably have to fly even higher through the first half of...
ANTONIO CONTE is happy for Tottenham fans to get excited after their fast start - but maintains that a title challenge is unrealistic. Spurs have now taken 14 points from their first six games after Pierre Emile-Hojbjerg and Harry Kane helped them win 2-1 against Fulham, who struck through Aleksandar Mitrovic. 1Matchwinner Harry Kane now has five league goals already this seasonCredit: Getty It is the North Londoners’ best beginning to a campaign since the 2016-17 campaign, when they finished second to a Conte-bossed Chelsea. The Italian, who took over at Spurs last November, said: “It’s important to have great enthusiasm and be excited for the team but at the same time I have to be realistic. “I am the first to push my players and tell them to play with ambition to be competitive but we finished last season with 20 points less than Manchester City and Liverpool, and there was a lot of trouble last season for the club. “We are doing good things but it’s wrong to give an unrealistic judgement. That doesn’t mean we don’t want...
LOS GATOS – Los Gatos’ offense took a big chance on the opening drive of its home game Friday night against Liberty-Brentwood. Facing a fourth-and-two situation on its own 40-yard line, the Wildcats went for it. Emiliano Mejia ran for three yards and the Wildcats didn’t look back, proceeding to score the first of four offensive touchdowns in the game in a 31-0 victory. “We struggled last week on the offensive side,” said Los Gatos coach Mark Krail about the Wildcats 28-14 loss to visiting Corona del Mar-Newport Beach in their opener, when Los Gatos’ offense accounted for only one touchdown. “We had a really good week of practice, actually, cleaned some things up, and just felt like let’s go for this. Let’s try to set the tone and see if we can get some momentum.” Right after Mejia’s fourth-down run, Los Gatos quarterback Jake Boyd found Wil Brennan for a 32-yard pass and the Wildcats (1-1) eventually scored on a four-yard run by Jaylen Thomas. On its second drive, Los Gatos also reached the end zone on a 52-yard...

PRODUCER SHARES WHY TOP GUN: MAVERICK BECAME HIGH-FLYING SUCCESS “After this summer’s record-breaking return to cinemas, we wanted to do something to celebrate moviegoing,” Cinema Foundation President Jackie Brenneman said. “We’re doing it by offering a ‘thank-you’ to the moviegoers that made this summer happen and by offering an extra enticement for those who haven’t made it back yet.” The new national holiday is the latest effort by the cinema industry to lure in moviegoers during a holiday weekend that typically doesn’t see many ticket sales. Major movie theaters such as AMC and Regal Cinemas are offering $3 tickets for all movies,...
Steve Bannon on Friday accused the White House of trying to stir up leftwing extremists in an effort to have opponents killed, after armed police descended on his Washington, D.C., home in an apparent 'swatting.' He was not home at the time but blamed President Joe Biden and his administration for whipping up hatred against Donald Trump and his allies. 'I'm never going to stop so they'll have to kill me first,' he told DailyMail.com.  'And if they kill me so bad.'  Police in the nation's capital said cops were called to Bannon's home - from where the former White House chief strategist normally broadcasts his War Room radio show - on A Street NE at 7:17 pm local time.  That was minutes before Biden delivered a set-piece speech on the 'battle for the soul of the nation,' and hours after White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre appeared to denounce anyone whose beliefs were outside the mainstream as 'extreme.' Bannon has been a pivotal player in attempts to overturn the 2020 election result. And he has used his radio show...

(CNN)Extreme heat is on the rise around the world, and a new study shows it is taking a significant toll not just on our physical health but also our sense of well-being.A new analysis by Gallup in collaboration with Citi, shared first with CNN, found that people who experienced extreme heat -- days that were significantly hotter than normal -- also reported a decrease in their sense of well-being around the same time. On average, the global population experienced three times as many extreme heat days in 2020 than it did in 2008, Gallup reported, and well-being decreased globally by 6.5% in that time as well.Researchers also found that because the climate crisis is pushing temperatures even hotter, global well-being could decrease by another 17% by the end of this decade. On Friday, the Golden Gate Bridge, Highway and Transportation District approved a $824,000 project to construct a rescue training net at the Southern Marina Fire Department facility in Mill Valley. The construction of a suicide prevention net at the Golden Gate Bridge was first approved in 2014 with a set completion date of 2021, but the project is two years behind schedule due to staff turnover and changes with the lead contractor, according to district general manager Denis Mulligan. Gerrit Cole couldn’t stop the Yankees’ slide. The staff ace took a no-hitter into the fifth inning and like everything else around this team right now, it just unraveled. The Bombers’ lifeless offense could not get them back into it as the Blue Jays beat them 5-2 to clinch the series at the Stadium this weekend. It was the third straight loss for the Yankees (73-48) and their 14th loss in their last 17 games. The Blue Jays (65-54) clinched the four-game series, handing the Bombers their sixth series loss in a row. The Yankees lost three series total in the first half. The Blue Jays cut the Yankees’ lead in the American League East to seven games. The Bombers led by 15.5 games on July 8. Cole allowed four runs on five hits over six innings. He walked two and struck out five. Cole went heavy with his fastball and his slider again, getting a combined 12 swings and misses with those two pitches. Four runs seems like an insurmountable challenge to the Yankees offense right now. On this home stand...
