Two NFL teams were aware Matt Araiza had been involved in an incident in the lead-up to the NFL draft in April. That's according to the Associated Press, who say executives from two different NFL teams knew of something concerning the 22-year-old but did not know the extent of the allegations. The Buffalo Bills, however, knew nothing and signed Araiza in the sixth round of the draft. They released him on Saturday, days after it emerged he has been accused of being involved in the gang rape of a 17-year-old last year, alongside two of his then team-mates at San Diego State. The Bills did know Araiza was subject of a police investigation, however, when they released Matt Haack - Araiza's rival for the punter role in the team - on Monday. The victim's lawyer, Dan Gilleon, claimed the Bills ignored concerns he raised about Araiza when contacting the team in late July. 'The Buffalo Bills had no choice but to cut their young punter after so badly botching their response to our claim,' Gilleon said in a statement carried...

Former President Donald Trump on Tuesday claimed President Joe Biden knew about the FBI's raid of Mar-a-Lago in advance, something the White House has denied.  'Biden knew all about this, just like he knew all about Hunter's "deals,"' the ex-president posted to his Truth Social website.  Trump also pushed that the raid was a continuation of politically motivated investigations against him.  'A horrible thing that took place yesterday at Mar-a-Lago,' he wrote. 'We are no better than a third world country, a banana republic.' 'It is a continuation of Russia, Russia, Russia, Impeachment Hoax #1, Impeachment Hoax # 2, the no collusion Mueller Report, and more,' he continued.  'To make matters worse it is all, in my opinion, a coordinated attack with Radical Left Democrat state & local D.A.'s & A.G.'s,' the former president added.  Former President Donald Trump was spotted leaving Trump Tower in New York on Monday night after announcing his Mar-a-Lago home had been raided by the FBI On Monday, Trump confirmed that FBI agents had raided Mar-a-Lago, after media reports said agents were spotted leaving...

What did Amato have to say? Amato admitted to the paper that he held the “ACAB” sign but claimed he wasn't aware of what was on the sign when it was handed to him. “Someone passed me the sign, and I didn’t know it said, ‘ACAB.’ I had no clue,” he noted to the Post. “I totally grabbed the sign in haste.” Amato added to the paper that he joined the counter-protest because he believed it was "tone-deaf" to hold a pro-cop rally just days after George Floyd died in police custody in Minneapolis — a turn of events that ignited a summer of rioting, violence, and property destruction around the country. “The officers deserve our respect. But we need our officers to be culturally cognitive,” Amato also told the Post. “When there is social unrest, it is not the best moment to hold an event. You have to read the room.” Amato also told the paper that the "Back the Blue" demonstrators were unruly and angrily confronted and taunted the...
First dates are a minefield when it comes to manners and never more so than when that all-important first meeting is over food.  As an etiquette expert and co-author of Debrett’s A-Z of Modern Manners, I am inundated with clients’ questions about the subtle things we get wrong when we eat. So I was fascinated to read last week’s Blind Date in Femail, which caused an etiquette uproar. Jacob felt Anastasia had committed a faux-pas by choosing fish, which he considered too smelly for a date.  I’m afraid to say he was right. White fish is usually fairly innocuous, though often still best avoided, while aromatic oily fish like smoked mackerel, salmon or sardines are a definite no-no. But then, he ordered curry, so I’m amazed he was able to detect her plate over the whiff of garlic and spice from his own.  After last week's Blind Date in Femail caused an etiquette uproar when Jacob felt Anastasia committed a faux-pas choosing fish, etiquette expert Jo Bryant reveals what first date meal choices really mean The thing about first impressions...
China's government was aware of Vladimir Putin's plan to attack Ukraine to some extend, President Joe Biden's National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan claimed on Sunday. He also threatened Beijing with 'severe consequences' if Chinese President Xi Jinping attempts to side-step the West's vast economic blockade against Russia brought over its autocratic leader's unprovoked invasion of a neighboring country. The stunning accusation was levied just one day before Sullivan is set to meet with Chinese officials in Rome to discuss the attack on Ukraine as well as economic 'competition' between the two global superpowers.  'We believe that China was in fact was aware before the invasion took place that Putin was planning something,' Sullivan said on CNN's State of the Union. He added that Beijing 'may not have understood the full extent of it, because it’s very possible that Putin lied to them the same way that he lied to Europeans and other.' Sullivan warned that the United States was 'watching closely' to see if China 'actually does provide any form of support, material support or economic support to Russia.' 'It...
Prince Charles appeared all smiles today as he emerged for the first time since his Covid isolation - and the launch of a police probe into the alleged 'cash for honours scandal'.  The heir to the throne, 73, was today seen publicly for the first time since his positive Covid test last week. He joined his sister, Princess Anne, the Princess Royal, in presenting the Queen's Anniversary Prizes for higher and further at St James's Palace in London. His appearance came as a former MP who filed a criminal complaint about the alleged 'cash for honours' scandal today said police should speak to Prince Charles about the claims. Ex-Liberal Democrat minister Norman Baker, said he found it ‘inconceivable' that Charles could have been completely ignorant of the affair. But Prince Charles' friend and biographer Jonathan Dimbleby mounted a defence of the royal, saying it was  'extraordinarily unlikely' Prince Charles knew about the alleged ‘cash for honours’ scandal. He also compared it to 'smears' that Sir Keir Starmer personally failed to prosecute Jimmy Savile. Mr Dimbleby, whose friendship with Charles goes back decades, insisted the Prince of...
House Republicans are demanding the Biden administration share what it knows about an apparent Russian overture to Iran about a proposed 'interim' nuclear deal amid a standoff between Tehran and major powers. The U.S. is 'aware' of the proposal, NBC reported, amid administration efforts to try to revive the 2015 Iran nuclear deal. Such an interim deal would involve a lifting of some sanctions on Tehran in exchange for additional restrictions on its nuclear program – the same kind of trade-offs that make up the 2015 deal negotiated during the Obama administration that President Donald Trump scrapped. Amid the limited information about potential strides, House Republicans with national security backgrounds are demanding the administration share what it knows.  The Biden administration is 'aware' of a Russian nuclear proposal to Iran, according to a weekend report. CALLING all singletons - "hardballing" is the new dating trend you need to be aware of and it's pretty savage. Made popular by Generation Z, ie those aged 24 or younger, the term involves a lot of - potentially hurtful - truth telling and early dumpings. 2If you're single, you need to be aware of 'hardballing'Credit: Getty Hardballing is when a single person is very clear about their expectations from a relationship upfront. And, if your life plans don't match theirs, then it's an instant goodbye. It could be someone with a strict timescale for marriage and kids, or alternatively someone making it VERY clear it's just a casual fling. Sexpert Jana Hocking, who at 36 is learning about this belatedly like us, wrote about the trend for news.com.au, admitting it made her feel equal parts "very old" and "scared to give it a go". "How do you hardball someone without scaring them off?" she pondered, before deciding you should hit your date with the hard facts in your very first conversation. Jana adds: "They may tell you that they...
CNN could be on the hook for 'seven figure' payments in potential lawsuits unless the network can prove it didn't know about recently surfaced sexual harassment claims against former star anchor Chris Cuomo. The network fired Cuomo on Saturday, citing the journalist's role in defending his brother, former New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo, against multiple sexual harassment allegations. Cuomo says CNN President Jeff Zucker knew about the cooperation, which the network called 'patently false.'  Though they didn't mention it, the network was allegedly informed about a sexual harassment allegation against Cuomo made by a junior colleague at another network days earlier. The nature of the allegation is not yet clear. California attorney Benjamin Eghbali told Fox News that Cuomo will be held to a similar standard as disgraced Miramax founder Harvey Weinstein if people decide to sue CNN alleging a cover-up. CNN could be on the hook for millions of dollars if plaintiffs can prove that the network covered up harassment claims against star host Chris Cuomo, who was fired Saturday Cuomo was fired after revelations that he helped coordinate the...

BERLIN (AP) — Chancellor Angela Merkel said Thursday that her party is fighting and was always aware that it wouldn’t “automatically” hold on to Germany’s top job after her 16 years in power, downplaying alarming poll ratings as the country’s election nears. Recent polls have shown Merkel’s Union bloc under would-be successor Armin Laschet in second place behind the center-left Social Democrats, with very low support of around 20%. It is running short of time to turn things around before the Sept. 26 parliamentary election. Merkel has largely stayed out of the campaign, though she has made a number of interventions lately — most recently, assailing the possibility of a future left-wing administration and trying to boost Laschet in an unusually partisan speech to parliament on Tuesday. Asked at a news conference Thursday whether she was worried about her record being sullied by her party losing the chancellery, Merkel replied that “we are in the middle of the election campaign and I can see that (it is) really fighting.” She added that what happens on election day counts, so she...
Prince Harry 'seemed to have a sense of humour' about HBO Max's animated comedy The Prince, the series creator has claimed.  Family Guy co-executive producer Gary Janetti, who created the 12-part animated series, appeared on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen where he was asked by a fan whether Orlando Bloom - who voices Prince Harry - had discussed his role in the series with his friend and neighbour.  'I don't know if Harry has said anything to Orlando about it, but I know before the show premiered, he was aware that Orlando was doing it,' Janetti said. 'And he seemed to have a sense of humour about it.' The show has sparked a backlash over its decision to mock George, eight, and his siblings Charlotte, five, and Louis, three, as well as its depiction of the late Duke of Edinburgh.    The controversial series - which focuses in a fictional version of Prince George as a child tyrant with expensive taste, a withering sense of humor and a dim view of his family - also shows Prince Harry as an inattentive...
Prince Harry’s family tried to stop the Duke and Duchess of Sussex from making their royal exit. In his new AppleTV+ docuseries titled "The Me You Can’t See," which he co-created with Oprah Winfrey, Harry recalled the moment when he decided to take his family out of the U.K. for a better life. "Eventually when I made that decision for my family, I was still told, ‘You can’t do this,’" the 36-year-old recalled, as quoted by U.K.’s DailyMail on Friday. "And it’s like, ‘Well, how bad does it have to get until I am allowed to do this?’ She [Markle] was going to end her life. It shouldn’t have to get to that." The couple had been married for less than a year when the former American actress, who was pregnant with their son Archie, told her husband she was deeply depressed. The pressures of royal life took such a toll on the 39-year-old that she admitted to having thoughts of self-harm. The White House has admitted it is 'aware' of warnings from civil rights groups that a ban on menthol cigarettes could disproportionately harm communities of color. White House Deputy Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said Thursday the Biden administration is taking 'seriously' concerns raised over the proposed ban of the product popular with black smokers.  The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced Thursday it is working to ban menthol cigarettes in the US by classifying the minty product as a flavor, which is already banned in cigarettes, as well as banning all flavored cigars. The agency said the move will, among other things, help tackle health disparities experienced by communities of color, with black Americans found to suffer disproportionately from addiction and ill health caused by smoking.  But the move is a controversial one, with civil rights leader and groups including the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) warning this week that it will lead to over-policing and more racial discrimination against black people. They are said to fear that black smokers who continue to puff menthol cigarettes even after a ban...
We’ve taken the past two weeks off in the Tuley’s Takes home office as we spent spring break with the kids and, well, doing some spring cleaning. If you follow me on Twitter @ViewFromVegas or my daily betting recaps that are posted in VSiN’s daily newsletter, you know that I’ve still been keeping up on everything in the world of sports despite being on vacation. I almost returned last week when Bill Adee sent out a message early in the week asking for “what we’ve learned so far in the baseball season,” but I didn’t feel I had anything worth sharing. Then underdogs went 10-6 straight up last Tuesday with one game (A’s-Diamondbacks) closing pick ’em. That was followed by underdogs going 11-3 SU on Wednesday for a two-day run of 21-9 for 70 percent! Even more impressively, that made favorites and ’dogs 84-84 SU on the season with six games closing pick ’em. A recent study published on Apr. 12 has found that a possible side effect of the coronavirus vaccines might be linked to herpes zoster. The study done by researchers from the Tel Aviv Sourasky Medical Center and Carmel Medical Center in Haifa, Israel showed that patients who had been diagnosed with an autoimmune inflammatory rheumatic disease (AIRD) were more likely to contract herpes zoster, The Jerusalem Post reported. Herpes zoster, also known as shingles, is a red, itchy, and painful rash that can cause nerve damage and additional pain if not treated, according to the Jerusalem Post. New York : The singer and actress Lali Espósito, who has just scored another great triumph in his career thanks to the success of the Netflix series ‘Sky Red’, has been very satisfied with its tendency to give social networks, and those related dynamics that prevail among the youngest, nothing more than the just and desired importance. Dr. Anthony Fauci said on CNN Wednesday night that he was not aware Donald Trump was vaccinated in January. It wasn’t publicly known that the former president and first lady got vaccinated until this week, a move that received criticism for not doing it in public to encourage more people. CNN’s Erin Burnett asked Fauci about the news and people saying at the time he could’ve done so publicly to “send this message to a very vaccine-resistant Republican base.” “Were you aware at the time that he got the vaccine?” Burnett asked. “No, Erin, I was not. I was not aware that he was vaccinated,” Fauci responded. Burnett asked if Trump missed a big opportunity to make a difference and convince his base the vaccines are safe. “Certainly there’s no doubt in anyone’s mind that former President Trump is very, very popular among his constituencies,” Fauci said. “That would’ve been an extraordinarily good opportunity to get a signal to the people who would clearly have listened to him the way they listened to him in many other ways. He has...

A spokesman for Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan pushed back on the claim by Amazon that it's offered help on vaccine distribution to all 50 states, saying that Maryland was "not aware" of an offer from Amazon to provide that kind of help.  The comment comes after Amazon said Thursday it had reached out to the Trump administration about helping with the logistics of getting vaccinations into Americans' arms but was told by the Trump administration to reach out to states instead. Amazon this week sent a letter to the Biden administration offering its help in distributing vaccines.  "We don’t know about any letter, but Amazon reached out to us this week about getting their frontline employees in Maryland vaccinated," Mike Ricci, the communications director for Hogan, told Fox News when asked if the governor received an offer from Amazon to help get Marylanders vaccinated.  Ricci added that "[w]e are not aware of such a letter," from Amazon offering assistance with Maryland's vaccination efforts.  President Joe Biden speaks about the coronavirus in the State Dining Room of the White House, Thursday,...

The Secret Service is aware of a litany of threats made by attorney Lin Wood, a spokesperson confirmed to the Washington Examiner. Wood, a supporter of President Trump who has repeatedly promoted conspiracy theories claiming that he won the presidential election and has made violent statements about a handful of conservatives whom he has deemed not sufficiently loyal to the president, has gotten the attention of the Secret Service. “We are aware of the comments and take all threats against our protectees seriously," a Secret Service spokesperson told the Washington Examiner on Saturday in response to an inquiry about Wood's comments. A recent target of his ire has been Vice President Mike Pence, who presided over the joint session of Congress on Wednesday in which lawmakers certified President-elect Joe Biden's electoral victory. The president and many conservative lawmakers pressured Pence to overturn the election, even though he said he didn't have that power constitutionally. “Get the firing squads ready.
