By Zeke Miller | Associated Press WASHINGTON — President Joe Biden visited a vaccination clinic Tuesday to celebrate that virtually all Americans can now get a COVID-19 shot Tuesday after the authorization of vaccines for kids under 5 over the weekend. Biden visited a vaccination clinic in Washington, where some of the first shots were given to young children in the last major age group ineligible for vaccines, hailing it as an important pandemic milestone that will support the country’s recovery. While anyone aged six months and up is now eligible for vaccines, the administration is cautioning that it expects the pace of shots for the youngest kids to be slower than older ones, as parents are more likely to rely on their children’s pediatricians to administer them. “We’re the only country in the world doing this right now,” Biden said, as he and first lady Jill Biden met with newly vaccinated kids and their parents at Church of the Holy Communion in southeast Washington. As he handed out hugs to kids, Biden spoke of his youngest grandson, Beau, aged...
Little Fletcher Pack woke up Monday morning and asked: “Is today vaccine day?” For the 3-year-old from Lexington, South Carolina, the answer was yes. The nation’s infants, toddlers and preschoolers are finally getting their chance at COVID-19 vaccination as the U.S. rolls out shots for tots this week. Shipments arrived in some locations over the weekend and some spots, including a Walgreens in South Carolina and another in New York City, opened up appointments for Monday. Fletcher’s mother said that once her son is fully vaccinated, he can finally go bowling and visit the nearby children’s museum. “He’s never really played with another kid inside before,” McKenzie Pack said. “This will be a really big change for our family.” She began seeking an appointment last week as U.S. regulators took steps to OK the vaccines for kids 6 months to 5 years old. “It’s just relief,” said Pack. “With this vaccine, that’ll be his best shot at going back to normal and having a normal childhood.” The Food and Drug Administration greenlighted the Moderna and Pfizer kid shot...
Parents anxious to finally vaccinate their youngest children against COVID-19, strap in: A lot is set to happen over the next week. On Wednesday, both Moderna and Pfizer will have to convince what’s essentially a science court — advisers to the Food and Drug Administration — that their shots work well in babies, toddlers and preschoolers. Kids under 5 are the only group not yet eligible for COVID-19 vaccination in the U.S. If the agency’s advisers endorse one or both shots for them — and the FDA agrees — there’s still another hurdle. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention must recommend whether all tots need immunization or just those at high risk from the virus. Adding to the complexity, each company is offering different dose sizes and number of shots. And the week won’t even start with the littlest kid debate: Moderna first will ask FDA’s advisers to support its vaccine for older children. Only a handful of countries, including China and Cuba, have offered different types of COVID-19 vaccinations to children younger than 5. Here’s a primer to...

Super Bowl Sunday is a day of indulgence, a smorgasbord of appetizers, snacks, and cheer. Gatherings will most likely be small this year, but for many the food will still be the focal point, the game only an amusing backdrop. Game day gatherings are so darn much fun. And that joviality can extend to the cook’s vantage point if the menu is kept super casual. More formal occasions might call for individually portioned hors d’oeuvres, such as hoity-toity caviar pinwheels or puff pastry tartlets. Super Bowl fare is more about yummy trough-style treats. The host puts them out and guests scoop up the goods. Folks can portion out to suit their LVI appetites. Easy. Put out plates and plenty of napkins. If serving Totchos, a riff on nachos made with Tater Tots, also provide forks. Set up a serve-yourself bar and include ice and a pitcher of delicious Pomegranate Margaritas. Jill Biden said on Friday Americans will have a 'very happy holiday' even after inflation hit a four-decade high as she took part in an annaul tradition for first ladies - joining kids and Marines in packing toys for the annual Toys for Tots drive. 'They're going to have a very happy holiday,' Biden said to DailyMail.com when asked if Americans can have a happy holiday with Omicron and inflation.  The first lady visited Joint Base Myer-Henderson Hall in Northern Arlington for the event, where she joined about 30 kids in sorting bikes, puzzles, balls, and other toys - including a Baby Yoda - into girls and boys bins for the annual toy drive. Her visit came as Americans are preparing for a tough holiday season.  Inflation reached its highest point in the last four decades - at 6.8% - due to problems with the supply chain compounded by high prices of food, gas and shelter. SAN ANTONIO – As Marines and volunteers sorted toys in a Northeast Side warehouse Friday morning, Toys for Tots coordinator Staff Sgt. Hector Jaramillo worried whether there would be enough toys to serve needy families. “You’d usually see probably about double this,” Jaramillo said. The annual holiday toy drive helps struggling families, and there’s no shortage of those this year. Jaramillo expects Toys for Tots will provide gifts over the next two weekends for even more than the 9,000 kids they did last year. Getting the gifts to do it, though - typically two toys per child - has been the problem. Many of the events from which Toys for Tots normally gets a good number of donations -- such as company Christmas parties where employees are invited to bring a gift -- were canceled or never planned at all because of the pandemic. In all, Jaramillo said there were just 23 events this year compared to about 53 last year. “If we have to cut it down to one toy per child, you know, then we will do that...
