by Janie Valentine   Incumbent Tony Evers (D) and Tim Michels (R) are running in the general election for governor of Wisconsin on Nov. 8. Recent polls have not shown either candidate to have a statistically significant lead. The Cook Political Report, Sabato’s Crystal Ball, and Inside Elections rate the election as a toss-up. Evers was elected in 2018, defeating then-incumbent Gov. Scott Walker (R) by a margin of 1.1 percentage points. Evers’ campaign website says he has “worked to bring people together around common sense solutions that make Wisconsin stronger” and names “signing a bipartisan income tax cut, fixing thousands of miles of roads and bridges, investing in apprenticeships and job training programs, and increasing resources for our public schools” among his accomplishments. “While Republicans want to divide us, I’m focused on delivering results that matter,” Evers said. Before being elected governor, Evers served as Wisconsin superintendent of public instruction for 10 years and as deputy superintendent for eight years before that. Michels is co-owner and vice president of an energy and infrastructure construction company. He previously served...
Wisconsin gubernatorial candidate Tim Michels called on Governor Tony Evers to prepare for possible unrest in the coming weeks. The remarks are in response to the pending decision from the U.S. Supreme Court in Dobbs v. Jackson, which focuses on the constitutional right of abortions. “I’m calling on the Governor to be ready for any impending acts of mass civil disobedience and to work to prevent any acts of violence. He should immediately convene Wisconsin Emergency Management leadership, raise the Emergency Operations Center status level from the current threat level five and put the Wisconsin National Guard on notice for possible deployment. There have been several threats of violence in reaction to a possible upcoming decision from the Supreme Court of the United States, and we should be ready. As Governor of Wisconsin, I will always assure the citizens of Wisconsin that we will be ready to protect property and lives,” Michels said in a statement. “From Covid to Kenosha, Governor Evers’ instincts have been terrible, and his policies even worse. On Kenosha, his actions fanned the flames of discontent...

Trump endorsed Michels this month, calling him in an email an “America First Conservative” who will support gun rights and police and stand against what Trump called “the woke mob.” Two days later, the state Democratic Party filed a complaint with the elections commission alleging that Michels used the wrong address on his nomination papers. It alleged that the mistake left Michels with only about 350 valid signatures. Michels needed 2,000 valid signatures to qualify for the ballot. Michels’ campaign...

BROWNSVILLE, Wis. (AP) — Republican Tim Michels, a multimillionaire construction company co-owner who last ran for office nearly two decades ago, cast himself as an outsider candidate in launching his campaign for Wisconsin governor Monday to take out Democratic Gov. Tony Evers. Michels, 59, joins a crowded field of GOP candidates, including former Lt. Gov. Rebecca Kleefisch, business owner Kevin Nicholson and state Rep. Timothy Ramthun. Michels, who along with his brothers runs his family business Michels Corp., could inject millions of his own wealth and shake up the primary race, which early polls have shown Kleefisch leading. Michels launched a statewide ad campaign Monday. The winner of the Aug. 9 primary will take on Evers in what is expected to be one of the most hotly contested governor’s races in the country. Evers won in 2018 by a little more than 1 percentage point, in the second-tightest governor’s race that cycle behind Florida. Michels focused on Evers, not any of his Republican challengers, in his first statement as a candidate. “Wisconsin is on the wrong track. From COVID...

Sony Michel, New England Patriots. (Photo by Billie Weiss/Getty Images) Is Sony Michel a sneaky-good fantasy football value play in 2020? The New England Patriots will have a different feel to them this fall. After 20 years in Foxborough, quarterback Tom Brady has taken his talents to the Florida Gulf Coast to play for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Replacing the living legend under center is former Auburn Tigers start Jarrett Stidham. He’ll have the likes of running back Sony Michel to lean on in his first year as the starter. The Fantasy Footballers assessed what value Michel will have in his third season out of Georgia with the Patriots. He went No. 31 overall to New England in the 2018 NFL Draft. Though he has rushed for nearly 1,000 yards in both of his professional seasons, Michel has a lackluster average draft position in fantasy football leagues at RB35. Could he still be a value play for you, though?Check out The Fantasy Footballers for all their adviceThe guys have Michel as a guy who will be slightly better than his...
