Getty Ime Udoka of the Boston Celtics. The Boston Celtics’ offseason was thrown for a loop when it was reported that head coach Ime Udoka would be suspended for the entirety of the upcoming 2022-23 season. He had a workplace relationship with a team staff member that was deemed to be a violation of the organization’s code of conduct. In turn, the Celtics named lead assistant Joe Mazzulla as the interim head coach, and have since explored the possibility of expanding their coaching staff. They asked the LA Clippers for permission to speak with former Boston assistant Jay Larranaga, but he decided to stay in LA. According to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN, there are some new developments in the Udoka situation, though. While he won’t be back in Celtics green for the upcoming season, that doesn’t mean he won’t be on a basketball court in the future. Wojnarowski reported that the Celtics won’t stand in his way if he chooses to explore new opportunities. “At a news conference last week, Celtics owner Wyc Grousbeck said the suspension —...
Getty Ime Udoka, Boston Celtics Despite the fact the Boston Celtics have suspended head coach Ime Udoka for the upcoming season, it would seem his stock remains high around the league. According to a September 30 report by ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, multiple other NBA teams have shown an interest in Udoka’s services, and have been trying to do their due diligence with the Celtics front office to figure out the extent of the head coach’s organizational violations. “There are teams that have tried to gather a preliminary understanding of the full explanation for Udoka’s suspension in preparation for possibly evaluating him for future coaching employment, sources told ESPN,” Wojnarowski wrote in his latest report. While Wojnarowski’s report doesn’t name the potentially interested teams, it will be interesting to see how the saga plays out over the next twelve months, and Boston’s front office hasn’t ruled out terminating Udoka’s contract before his suspension expires. ESPN Sources: The law firm probe into Celtics coach Ime Udoka found crude language in his dialogue w/ a female subordinate prior to start of...
Dear NBA teams looking into Ime Udoka as a potential head coach candidate despite his year-long Celtics suspension, please don’t. Ime Udoka won’t be the Celtics head coach for the 2022-23 season and it feels unlikely he’ll return as their coach even after his one-year suspension for workplace misconduct is over. That doesn’t mean he couldn’t be an NBA head coach again soon enough. ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski shed more light on Udoka’s suspension on Friday, including how “crude language” with a female subordinate contributed to the length of his punishment. The reporter also dropped details on Udoka’s future that feel quite unsavory. “…Sources told ESPN the Celtics won’t stand in Udoka’s way should he have the chance to become a coaching candidate elsewhere,” Wojnarowski wrote. “There are teams that have tried to gather a preliminary understanding of the full explanation for Udoka’s suspension in preparation for possibly evaluating him for future coaching employment, sources told ESPN.”NBA teams are reportedly scouting Ime Udoka for potential coaching hireLet’s just call it what it is: That’s gross. The Celtics suspended head coach Ime Udoka for a full year because of a workplace relationship. Now we know more about how he crossed the line. When the Celtics revealed a year-long suspension for Ime Udoka, it was clear that more details would come out little by little until a more full picture of his misconduct became clear. Adrian Wojnarowski has now painted a little more of the picture by reporting about “crude language” Udoka allegedly used with a female subordinate working for him and the Celtics. Apparently, the independent law firm the Celtics used to look into the situation found that Udoka “used crude language in his dialogue with a female subordinate prior to the start of an improper workplace relationship with the woman.” That language was “deemed especially concerning coming from a workplace superior.” According to ESPN’s sources, that finding “significantly factored into his one-year suspension.” Ime Udoka’s “crude language” played into one-year Celtics suspensionWe obviously don’t know the exact language Udoka used but it clearly crossed enough of a line that the team felt they needed to...
The independent law firm probe into Boston Celtics coach Ime Udoka reportedly found that he used crude language in his dialogue with a female subordinate prior to the start of an improper workplace relationship with the woman. Udoka was officially suspended by the team last Thursday for a violation of team policies after he reportedly had a consensual relationship with a female staffer. Investigative findings into the coach revealed that Udoka used language that has been deemed 'concerning coming from a workplace superior'.  It is likely to have significantly factored into his one-year suspension and contribute to making it especially difficult for Udoka to be reinstated as Celtics coach in 2023, according to ESPN.  The power dynamic associated with the improper relationship was reportedly the primary finding and policy violation in the law firm report commissioned by the Celtics and completed early last week. At a news conference last week, Celtics owner Wyc Grousbeck confirmed that the one-year suspension was a result of multiple team policies.  An investigation into Boston Celtics head coach Ime Udoka revealed that  he used crude language...
Matt Barnes backed up comments he made about Boston Celtics head coach Ime Udoka‘s suspension and speculated if he would coach in the NBA again. Barnes was a guest on VLAD TV, where he became very open about Udoka’s future with the game of basketball. Udoka was suspended by the Celtics for the entire 2022-2023 season after an investigation brought up that he had an affair with another staffer. “If everything comes out he’ll be lucky if he coaches in the NBA again,” Barnes said. “I think it’s pretty heavy.” Barnes explained that there are lines that should not be crossed, and he feels Udoka’s actions went that far. “Some stuff you can’t do,” Barnes added. “Again not judging, to each his own. I’ve made plenty of mistakes. If everything comes out it could get extra hot in the kitchen for him.” Barnes originally defended Udoka when the news broke about a possible suspension. That changed when Barnes learned about what happened and deleted his message that defended Udoka. “After finding out the facts, I erased what I posted,” Barnes...
Getty Marcus Smart and Jay Larranaga, then of the Boston Celtics. The Boston Celtics are still in the process of getting back to normal after the team announced that they would be suspending head coach Ime Udoka for the entirety of the upcoming season. He had a relationship with a team staffer that was deemed to be a violation of the organization’s code of conduct. In turn, with Udoka’s suspension, the team appointed Joe Mazzulla as the interim head coach. He will be taking over for the upcoming season at just 34 years old. However, they could be looking to add additional coaches to his staff before the start of the year. According to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN, the team is looking for permission to speak with LA Clippers assistant Jay Larranaga. They want to bring him back to Boston to be a member of Mazzulla’s staff for this season. “The Celtics are seeking permission to talk to Clippers assistant Jay Larranaga about joining interim coach Joe Mazzulla’s staff this season, sources tell ESPN. Larranaga spent nine seasons...
Getty Ime Udoka and Grant Williams of the Boston Celtics. For the past few days, Boston Celtics fans have been sent off on a roller coaster of emotions. After hearing news that Danilo Gallinari and Robert Williams would both miss a ton of time, they then learned that Ime Udoka would be suspended from the team. He engaged in an intimate relationship with a team staff member, and upon inspection, the team deemed the situation to be a violation of the organization’s code of conduct. In turn, they suspended him for the upcoming season, and his future in Boston is uncertain. With Udoka being suspended, the Celtics promoted assistant coach Joe Mazzulla to interim head coach. He was named Udoka’s lead assistant when Will Hardy left to be the head coach of the Utah Jazz. After the team announced the move, Celtics forward Grant Williams gave his seal of approval by liking a tweet with the news. This was the tweet Williams liked: The Celtics have reportedly named Joe Mazzulla interim head coach. pic.twitter.com/Q2X5NcGPU2 — Celtics on NBC...
Getty Former member of the Boston Celtics Paul Pierce is introduced before the Celtics home opener. Before Boston Celtics Head Coach Ime Udoka was officially suspended by the team for the entire season, many had their own takes on what the appropriate punishment was for Udoka’s actions. Among them was Celtics legend Paul Pierce, who gave his two cents on the matter. It should just be a fine not a suspension ????????‍♂️ — Paul Pierce (@paulpierce34) September 22, 2022 The Celtics did not adhere to Pierce’s opinion on the matter, as afterward, they officially suspended Udoka for the season. Former NBA star and current basketball analyst Matt Barnes says the details of what led to Ime Udoka's season-long suspension are a lot worse than people realize.  The Boston Celtics suspended their coach, who coached the Philadelphia 76ers in 2019-20, after it came to light that he had an improper relationship with a female staffer and made inappropriate comments to her following the end of that relationship, ESPN reports. Team officials refused to go into details about what happened between the two during a press conference Friday morning.  Meanwhile, Barnes said he spoke with someone with knowledge of the situation, and that it's a lot worse than what's being reported. "This situation in Boston is deep. It’s messy. It’s 100 times uglier than any of us thought," the "All The Smoke" podcast host said. "… Some things happened that I can’t condone — that I can’t back." He posted a video to Instagram explaining that he supported Udoka after the Celtics announced Thursday night, Sept. 22, that the team would suspend him for the entire 2022-23 season but quickly deleted those comments once...

Getty Ime Udoka of the Boston Celtics. The Boston Celtics’ offseason has officially descended into chaos. After some solid moves at the beginning of the summer, things have gone downhill. Danilo Gallinari tore his ACL while playing for the Italian national team at EuroBasket, and it was recently announced that Robert Williams will require knee surgery. However, the biggest bombshell came when Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN reported that head coach Ime Udoka would likely be suspended. Shams Charania of The Athletic followed that up by revealing that he had a consensual relationship with a female member of Boston’s staff. It took a while for anyone on the Celtics’ side of things to release a statement, but late at night on Thursday, September 22, both Boston and Udoka himself commented on the matter. In his first statement since the incident came to light, Udoka apologized to the organization and its fans, and said that he had no further comments on the matter. “I want to apologize to our players, fans, the entire Celtics organization, and my family for letting...

Boston Celtics head coach Ime Udoka is reportedly facing a significant suspension for having an inappropriate relationship with a team staffer. ESPN first broke the news late Wednesday night that Udoka could be facing possible disciplinary action — “including a significant suspension” — for violating an unspecified team organizational guideline. Shortly after, The Athletic reported Udoka had “an improper and intimate consensual relationship with a female member of the team staff,” which violates the Celtics’ code of conduct. An Udoka suspension appears imminent, with the only looming question being the length of his forthcoming absence. Udoka is not in danger of losing his job, but missing the entire 2022-23 season is on the table, according to ESPN. Udoka took the Celtics job after spending one season as Steve Nash’s top assistant coach in Brooklyn. Getty Brad Stevens, Boston Celtics The Boston Celtics find themselves in a period of turmoil right now, with injury to multiple key players and the news about Ime Udoka’s impending suspension breaking in the early hours of September 22. However, Boston’s biggest issue still resides in their lack of center depth – something which has been exacerbated by Robert Williams needing a second surgery on his knee. And while no details were initially leaked, he also noted that the team has considered drastic measures. According to Wojnarowski, the Celtics are still in the midst of considering suspension options for Udoka. Getty Ime Udoka of the Boston Celtics. After losing in the NBA Finals, the offseason seemed to be going swimmingly for the Boston Celtics. Brad Stevens sprung into action, signing Danilo Gallinari to a two-year contract and making a crucial trade for combo guard Malcolm Brogdon. However, in the span of a few short weeks, chaos took over. There were the Kevin Durant trade rumors, then Gallinari tore his ACL while playing for the Italian national team at EuroBasket, and then it was revealed that Robert Williams would need knee surgery. Now, head coach Ime Udoka is facing a likely suspension. Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN reported the news first, but it was followed by a tweet from Shams Charania of The Athletic detailing the issue. Udoka has been seen as a special coaching mind for years now, and last season with the Boston Celtics, he got to prove it by leading the C’s to the NBA Finals in his first season as a head coach. The Nets faced much criticism for letting him go and failing to recognize the coach they had on its bench. Ultimately the Nets have remained committed to Steve Nash, even with Kevin Durant calling for his firing this summer, and the Celtics landed one of the coaches with the best potential to be great.  Udoka impressed last season as a first-year head coach even after the Celtics got off to a rocky start. First, there was Gallinari’s injury. He tore his ACL while playing for the Italian national team at EuroBasket. Then, it was announced that Robert Williams would require knee surgery and could miss roughly 4-6 weeks of action. And now, Ime Udoka is in trouble. Adrian Wojnarowski dropped a bombshell on the league, tweeting that Udoka faces a likely suspension for breaking team rules, although he failed to include any details past that. In a later update, though, he revealed that Udoka’s job is not in jeopardy. “Ime Udoka’s job isn’t believed to be in jeopardy, but a suspension is looming and a final determination on that length could come as soon as Thursday, sources tell ESPN,” Wojnarowski tweeted. Getty Boston Celtics point guard Marcus Smart. On the heels of starting point guard Marcus Smart being suspended for the team’s preseason finale, the Celtics have opted to add some reinforcement to their backcourt — at least for the time being. According to The Athletic’s Jared Weiss, Boston is signing point guard Chris Clemons to an Exhibit 10 deal. The 5-foot-9-inch, 180-pound Clemons entered the league in 2019 as an undrafted free agent by way of Campbell University. During his rookie campaign, Clemons appeared in 33 games with the Houston Rockets as a two-way player, averaging 4.9 points over 8.8 minutes per contest. He hasn’t appeared in an NBA regular-season game since his rookie showing, as a torn Achilles suffered in a preseason game against the San Antonio Spurs wiped his 2020-21 slate clean.
