Getty Josh Allen runs the ball in a win over the Los Angeles Rams. The Buffalo Bills got a big win in the season-opening game against the reigning Super Bowl champions, but they haven’t escaped criticism for Josh Allen’s risky play style. Allen threw for three touchdowns and ran for another in the team’s 31-10 drubbing of the Los Angeles Rams. The Bills quarterback finished the night 26-of-33 (83.9%) for 297 yards and added a game-high 56 rushing yards, many of them on bruising runs into the heart of the Rams defense. But after the game, some fans and insiders questioned why the Bills are still calling on their franchise quarterback to run so often, subjecting him to plenty of wear and tear early in a season where the Bills hope to finally win a Super Bowl.Allen’s Rushing Pushed Bills to VictoryAllen’s legs helped to set the tone in Thursday’s win over the Rams, including a memorable run in the third quarter. With the Bills facing a 3rd-and-7 on their opening drive of the half, Allen scrambled toward...
The Lincoln Project’s Rick Wilson made it abundantly clear he’s not afraid of Donald Trump’s threat to sue the organization for running negative ads against him on Fox News. The former president threatened to take the Lincoln Project and Fox News to court for airing local ad buys that were targeted to run in places where he was most likely to see them on TV. The Lincoln Project’s latest video brutally mocked Trump’s supporters as “suckers” for a grifter ex-president, and Trump responded with an angry rampage on Truth Social: “The Paul Ryun (sic) run Fox only has high standards for ‘Trump’ ads, but not for anyone else,” he said. “The Perverts should not be allowed to ‘false advertise,’ and Fox News should not allow it to happen. See you all in Court!!!” If Trump thought that would get the Lincoln Project to stop, it looks like it didn’t work. Wilson responded to Trump’s post by daring him to pick a legal fight with his team. “Go for it! Go for it, bitch! Come at me!” Wilson declared. “I can’t...
SANTA CLARA — On Sunday, Trey Lance had arguably his worst practice of training camp. On Tuesday, he had his best. He was crisp, fast-processing, and dangerous. Of course he was — the 49ers’ offense ran more read-option plays and pistol-formation looks on Tuesday than they had in the first two weeks of training camp, combined. They were finally running the Trey Lance offense. And in that offense, all of the 49ers’ pieces seem to fit together, and the first-year starting quarterback looks downright awesome. “The offense kicked our butt today,” safety Jimmie Ward said on KNBR after practice. Now, we don’t know if the change in tactics was always planned for Tuesday or if it was implemented to give the young quarterback some confidence. We also can’t rule out that Shanahan increased the number of option runs as a big middle finger to his defense, which has been fantastic to start camp. Regardless of why the offense shifted, it showed that the 49ers’ offense must change with Lance at the helm and why it will. But Shanahan won’t be...
ROME (AP) — Always known as a great motivator, José Mourinho is also excelling as a pitchman in his latest coaching job at Roma. When “Mou” calls, players come running to the Italian capital. It all started a year ago when Mourinho lured Tammy Abraham away from European champion Chelsea to join him in Rome. At first, the young striker wasn’t all that convinced about joining a team that hadn’t won a trophy in nearly 15 years and has historically been a notch below Italy’s northern powers Juventus, AC Milan and Inter Milan. Then Mourinho asked him: “Do you want to stay in rainy England or come enjoy some sun in Rome?” That sealed the $41 million transfer and Abraham went on to score 27 goals in all competitions last season, including nine in Roma’s run to the Europa Conference League title. Around about the same time, Mourinho convinced Henrikh Mkhitaryan — who was itching to leave Rome — to stay one more season and reunite with his former coach at Manchester United. This season’s transfer campaign began with Mourinho...

MIAMI (CBSMiami) – “You can cut the film on. The Ravens’ 2021 season will forever be defined by injuries, and Sunday’s 16-13 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers in overtime was a fitting, yet heartbreaking conclusion. Throughout the game, the Ravens watched players such as outside linebacker Tyus Bowser and running back Devonta Freeman suffer injuries on the wet field at M&T Bank Stadium, continuing a turbulent season in which the Ravens went from being the No. 1 seed in the AFC to losing six straight and being knocked out of playoff contention. Despite filling key positions with practice squad players and veteran free agents, the Ravens don’t want to use that as an excuse for how the season turned out. “We can’t say, ‘What if,’” quarterback Tyler Huntley said. “We’ve just got to face the facts of what happened. And like I said, what if we would’ve made that last play in those last few games and got an extra field goal or an extra touchdown, we wouldn’t even be talking about ‘What if.’ So, I just feel like right now, we’ve got to face what’s...
When the Atlanta Braves were crowned World Series champions last October, you may have thought they deserved it, it has been a while since Atlanta got a title. Their last period was 26 years ago in 1995. While it is true that 26 years of not winning the final prize may seem like a long time, the lucky franchisees may not even come close to having to endure. In fact, such a famine would be in the middle of the pack for a very long time without winning the final prize. Currently, the ball fans in Cleveland are the ones waiting the longest. Since 1948, 73 years ago, the Guardians have not received top honors. It’s been almost three-quarters of a century, that is. However, it is enough that Ohio baseball fans have already tasted such success. The Texas Rangers have not been crowned MLB Champions since being founded in 1961, 61 years ago. The same goes for the Brewers, Patresses and Mariners, who have not yet attained their glory. Although Milwaukee and San Diego dealerships were established in 1969,...

BROSSARD, Quebec (AP) — After dismissing his general manager and two other executives, Montreal Canadiens owner and president Geoff Molson said Monday that running the hockey operations of the storied NHL team is a multiperson job and that will be the approach going forward. Molson said a search is underway for a bilingual GM who will work with recently hired executive vice president of hockey operations Jeff Gorton. “Jeff is going to come here, and the new person is going to come here, and they’re going to assess the situation and they’re going to develop an identity they want to have for this team,,” Molson said. Marc Bergevin was in the 10th year as GM when he was dismissed over the weekend with the team off to a 6-15-2 start after reaching the Stanley Cup Final last season. Molson said Bergevin did a good job over his tenure in Montreal, but the team needed a change after an “unacceptable” start. Molson acknowledged that Bergevin could have used some help. “It’s a lot for one person,” Molson said. “If I could...
MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Wisconsin running back Chez Mellusi will miss the rest of the season with an injured left knee, leaving the 20th-ranked Badgers without their leading rusher. Mellusi, a Clemson transfer, suffered the injury in the third quarter of Wisconsin’s 52-3 victory at Rutgers on Saturday. Coach Paul Chryst said Thursday that Mellusi won’t play again this season and likely wouldn’t be available for spring practice either. Cleveland Browns running back D’Ernest Johnson had one heck of a game on Thursday, adding another amazing step in his journey from making a living on a fishing boat to becoming a blossoming NFL star in only three short years. And he gave thanks to God for his good fortunes. Johnson was working as a member of a fishing boat crew when he was finally drafted at 22 years of age in 2018. And thanks to the coronavirus and the needed time to pay some of his NFL dues on the bench, Johnson never really had much of an opportunity to show what he could do on the gridiron. But all that changed on Thursday, and after he stepped out onto the field, he made everyone sit up and take notice. The third-string running back finally got his moment in Cleveland’s 17-14 win over the Denver Broncos, and when the last second had counted down, Johnson had rushed for 146 yards and earned one touchdown. “We might have lost that game without that performance that we had from him,” former...

Amid the rise in the number of House Democrats not running for reelection in next year's midterms as their party tries to hold on to its fragile majority in the chamber, House GOP leader Rep. Kevin McCarthy is predicting there will be plenty more to come.  Long-serving Democratic Reps. David Price of North Carolina and Mike Doyle of Pennsylvania announced Monday they wouldn't seek reelection in 2022. Their news came just a few days after fellow Democrat and House Budget Committee chair Rep. John Yarmuth of Kentucky also said he’d retire from Congress after the end of his current term. TWO MORE HOUSE DEMOCRATS ANNOUNCE 2022 RETIREMENTS That brings to seven the number of House Democrats retiring rather than running for reelection in 2022, with another five seeking statewide or other offices rather than bidding for another two years in the House. And we’ve yet to hit the traditional peak season for congressional retirements. The GOP needs a net gain of just five seats in the 435-member chamber next year to regain the House majority it lost to the Democrats...
FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga. (AP) — Mike Davis couldn’t wait to check in for his first training camp with his hometown Atlanta Falcons. “I’m here early,” Davis said Tuesday. “I think that speaks for a lot. I got here about 8. I’m just ready to go.” Davis had an edge over many of his new teammates. He could pack light for a short drive. “This is all I have, my backpack,” the running back said. “Home is nothing but 30 or 50 minutes from here.” Davis, a native of Stone Mountain, Georgia, in metro Atlanta, was the biggest addition for the cost-cutting Falcons in the offseason. He signed a $5.5 million, two-year deal after leading Carolina with 642 yards rushing and six touchdowns last season. Davis was the perfect fit for an Atlanta team looking to energize its lackluster running game. “I feel like everybody always dreams of playing at home,” Davis said. “Growing up, I was a Falcons fan. Alge Crumpler, (Michael) Vick, I’ve seen everything growing up. So of course the Falcons were my dream team and...
More On: filibuster AOC argues against fellow Democrat Sinema’s support of Senate filibuster From far-left to Democratic filibuster defender: Who is Kyrsten Sinema? GOP is being fooled by this infrastructure ‘deal’ The DeSantis moment and other commentary The filibuster is becoming a wedge issue for Democratic Senate hopefuls ahead of the 2022 midterms — as moderates are taken to task by the left-wing of the Democratic party on ramming through more legislation while Biden is in office. The Senate is split 50-50 between Republicans and Democrats, though Vice President Kamala Harris, as Senate president, has a tie-breaking vote. Still, 51 votes are not enough under current rules to break through the filibuster. The legislative filibuster is the Senate rule requiring 60 members to end debate on most topics and move forward to a vote. In this Congress, Democrats need 10 Republicans to move any major legislation forward, though they can bypass the filibuster through budget reconciliation on certain bills. Patrick Mahomes. Kevin C. Cox/Getty Images Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs offense could not get anything going in Super Bowl LV. Attempting to mount a comeback, Mahomes made one of the wildest throws of his career. It fell incomplete. Visit Insider's homepage for more stories. Patrick Mahomes spent the majority of Super Bowl LV running for his life while being pursued by the Buccaneers defense. As Kansas City attempted to mount a comeback in the second half, Mahomes found himself scrambling on play after play desperately looking for an open man. Nowhere was this desperation more apparent than the Chiefs first drive of the fourth quarter. Facing fourth-and-9 from the Tampa Bay 12-yard line, Mahomes was chased all the way back to the 30, weaving in and out to evade defenders and keep his team alive. Eventually, Mahomes found barely enough breathing room to pull off an incredible throw, diving forward to a point of being near-parallel with the turf as he went to release. Somehow, the ball made it to running back Darrell Williams...
Bradley Cortright January 19, 2021 0 Comments Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) says President Donald Trump should be disqualified from ever running for office again due to what he sees as the president’s role in inciting the mob that stormed the U.S. Capitol. “After what he has done, the consequences of which we were all witness to, Donald Trump should not be eligible to run for office ever again,” Schumer said during a speech on Tuesday. He continued, “All of us want to put this awful chapter in our nation’s history behind us. But healing and unity will only come if there is truth and accountability, not sweeping such a severe charge, such awful actions under the rug.” “So let me be clear, there will be an impeachment trial in the United States Senate. There will be a vote on convicting the president for high crimes and misdemeanors. And if the president is convicted, there will be a vote on barring him from running again,” he added. A bunch of smoke and mirrors, plus games against weaker opponents now have the Steelers vying to build for the future. Hello, fellow fantasy football carpoolers. We know, we hit some heavy traffic and construction delays early this season, including injuries to Miles Sanders and Raheem Mostert. We navigated around those absences, found a way to stay in the hunt without going too far off course. We’re still on track to reach our fantasy playoff destination. We just escaped that jam and now we have plugged those guys back into our lineup recently and we’re back up to speed. Oh, wait. Here comes another jam. More construction ahead. Mostert, who missed Weeks 3-4 with a knee issue, left Sunday’s game with an ankle injury and could miss more time. Sanders, who sat out Week 1 with a hamstring problem, is not expected to play Thursday due to a knee injury. Neither situation has a clear-cut replacement from the same roster. Joe Biden raised eyebrows yet again on Monday for remarks he made on the campaign trail.  While briefly taking questions from reporters en route to a campaign event in Ohio, Biden was asked if Judge Amy Coney Barrett's faith should be "considered" during her confirmation to the Supreme Court, something the Democratic nominee flatly rejected.  However, as part of his explanation, he recalled a time when he "got in trouble" regarding the questioning of someone's faith.  VIRAL CLIP SHOWS BIDEN LOWERING HIS MASK TO COUGH IN HIS HAND "You may remember, I got in trouble when we were running against the senator who was a Mormon, the governor, OK? Later on, while closing his stump speech at a campaign drive-in event in Toledo, Biden touted America's ability to come out of a national crisis "stronger" than it was coming in.   BIDEN SUGGESTS...

Michelle Obama is planning to take aim at Donald Trump at the Democratic National Convention, The Hill reported.
