Ohio State Buckeyes head coach Ryan Day. (Adam Cairns-The Columbus Dispatch) College football referees get things wrong every week. In Week 4, Michigan benefitted, Ohio State got a bad break and Notre Dame got screwed. It wouldn’t be a college football weekend without needing to scream at the television because the officials made a bad call. It’s part of the experience, even if it’s one of the worst parts. So let’s have a look at the worst calls from this week in college football. But first, we begin with an honorable mention to the Pac-12 refs in charge of the Oregon vs. Washington State game. The conference had to release a statement acknowledging their refs messed up by skipping a second down belonging to the Cougars. After a punt on not-fourth down, they went back and gave Wazzu a new down. It was a mess.Flag on the play: 3 worst calls from college football Week 43. Jim Harbaugh scored his first win over Ohio State last year, but Michigan is showing that they might be the new team to beat in the Big Ten.  Entering last season, Jim Harbaugh was no stranger to success with Michigan football, but there was a monkey hanging on his back with the claws dug into him. He needed to beat rival Ohio State for the first time in his coaching career. As we know, he accomplished that, essentially punching the Wolverines’ ticket to the College Football Playoff in the process. But the question then evolved from there into whether or not Michigan would be able to parlay the success in the 2021 season into sustained, long-term dominance in the Big Ten. It’s only been three games against vastly inferior competition, but the Wolverines are staking their claim as the new team to beat in the conference.Michigan football is overtaking Ohio State as team to beat in the Big TenIn the case of Michigan, this turning of the tables to be the top dog in the Big Ten starts with Harbaugh’s...
President Joe Biden departed the White House Friday morning to travel to Licking County, Ohio where he'll deliver remarks at the groundbreaking of Intel's new $20 billion semiconductor plant.  It's a victory lap for the president, who steered a bipartisan bill through Congress to put $52 billion into the U.S. semiconductor industry - as a way to compete with China.  As part of the president's visit, Intel is expected to announce nearly $18 million the company plans to invest in Ohio colleges and universities to put toward workforce development.  'This includes partnering with community colleges across Ohio, the state's oldest historically Black university, and other institutions to train thousands of workers to work in Ohio's growing semiconductor industry,' a senior administration official said.  President Joe Biden arrives at Joint Base Andrews Friday morning to take Air Force One to Licking County, Ohio  President Joe Biden gives a finger gun salute to those on the tarmac at Joint Base Andrews Friday morning  President Joe Biden spoke with well-wishers as he departed the White House for Ohio Friday morning  President Joe Biden walks out...
The Ohio State Buckeyes and Michigan State Spartans have tough road matchups on tap. Could they be among this week’s most popular college basketball upset picks? One of the biggest takeaways longtime college basketball fans are aware of is that it is extremely difficult to win on the road in conference play. The intense nature of long-standing rivalries leads to rowdy home crowds, which make life difficult for road teams simply trying to maintain their place on the seed line by avoiding an upset. Purdue and LSU were upset victims last week in conference road games, which isn’t surprising at all given the quality of the leagues they play in. Let’s look at five more teams that could be staring an upset in the face in this week’s college basketball upset picks.Upset Alert: Week 12 College Basketball Upset PicksNote: All games listed below were on the schedule as of post time. As the 2021 Heisman Trophy ceremony is upon us, it’s worth wondering which college football program has the most Heisman winners. Since Nick Saban took over as the head coach of the Alabama Crimson Tide, it feels like an Alabama player at least makes the general Heisman Trophy discussion on a fairly regular basis. The Crimson Tide have yet another player up for the Heisman this year, quarterback Bryce Young, and there’s a really good chance that he’ll win it this year. But Alabama doesn’t have the most Heisman winners in history. Even if Young is able to take the most prestigious award in college football home with him, Alabama would only have four Heisman winners in its history. So, which team has the most Heisman winners in history? Well, there’s actually a tie for first place in this category.Which school has the most Heisman Trophy winners? At the top of the list sit the Oklahoma Sooners, Ohio State Buckeyes, and the Notre Dame Fighting Irish and each program has seven Heisman winners to celebrate. Oklahoma’s seven Heisman winners are Billy Vessels...
The Ohio State Buckeyes still have a very slim hope of making the College Football Playoff if chaos reigns in conference championship games. When Michigan beat Ohio State, the Buckeyes had their College Football Playoff hopes essentially dashed. The likelihood of Ohio State making it into the Top 4 teams with two losses and no Big Ten title was exceedingly low. The one thing college football likes to deliver is chaos. And, as they say, chaos is a ladder. Ohio State playoff chances are slim but still possibleThere are seven teams ahead of Ohio State in the CFP rankings and only four spots in the playoff. The Buckeyes need just about everything to go their way. First, they need Georgia to utterly demolish Alabama. It wouldn’t be enough for the Crimson Tide to lose in the SEC Championship Game because they could get in as a two-loss non-conference title winner over Ohio State. Next, Ryan Day and Ohio State need to be big fans of Michigan on Saturday. The Wolverines need to assert their dominance over Iowa and establish themselves...
Quinn Ewers is on the move. The most coveted recruit in the class of 2021 is in the transfer portal and looking to return home to the state of Texas. It’s only been a couple of weeks since Quinn Ewers received a raucous ovation from Ohio State fans at The Horseshoe when he made his garbage-time debut for the Buckeyes. Those are the only cheers he’s going to hear in Ohio after entering the transfer portal, according to Pete Thamel of Yahoo! Sports.Quinn Ewers to transfer from Ohio State with Texas, Texas A&M among favoritesThamel reported Ewers intention to transfer on Friday, adding some information that will make fans of Texas, Texas A&M and Texas Tech very excited. Those three programs in the Lone Star state are the favorites to land the former five-star quarterback. Ewers reclassified into the class of 2021 and ranked No. 1 in the 247Sports composite. He garnered a comparison to Phillips Rivers from Gabe Brooks of 247Sports, who viewed him as a potential Top 10 draft pick. The quarterback from Southlake, Texas originally committed...
Here are 100,000 Michigan football fans singing “Mr. Brightside” in the snow after beating the Ohio State football team. It was a decade in the making, but the Michigan football finally faithful had their day in the snow, as they actually beat the dreaded Ohio State football team head-to-head. In a clash of College Football Playoff hopefuls, the home team came out on top in The Big House, 42-27. Michigan not only clinched a Big Ten East division crown, but eliminated the Buckeyes from playoff contention with their second loss on the season. To celebrate the momentous occasion, 100,000 Wolverines fans stormed the field and then sang The Killers’ “Mr. Brightside” in the snow. With Ohio State losing their second game of the season, do they still have any chance of making the College Football Playoff? The Ohio State Buckeyes had the chance to essentially clinch a College Football Playoff spot with a win over the Michigan Wolverines on Saturday. They had history on their side, as they won the previous eight matchups. But, the Wolverines were determined to get Jim Harbaugh his first victory against the Buckeyes as head coach, and they did just that with a 42-27 win. With the Buckeyes now having two losses on the year, with their previous defeat coming earlier this year against the Oregon Ducks, do the Buckeyes have any chance of making the College Football Playoff?Ohio State’s College Football Playoff dreams dashed by rival MichiganThe Buckeyes currently have a next to zero chance of making the Playoff. They would need a ton of help to even have a shot at making it. First, Ohio State would need the one-loss Notre Dame Fighting Irish to fall to the Stanford Cardinal on Saturday. Then, the Buckeyes will have...
Michigan fans rush the field after beating Ohio State for the first time since the 2011 season and getting Jim Harbaugh his first win vs. the Buckeyes. It was a long time coming but Michigan football fans can finally celebrate a win over Ohio State for the first time since 2011. This snaps the losing streak to their biggest rivals and gets Jim Harbaugh his first coaching win over the Buckeyes in six tries. It was a complete domination of No. 2 Ohio State and ends their hopes of returning to the Big Ten Championship Game and the College Football Playoff. For Michigan, they’ll play either Wisconsin or Iowa next Saturday for the Big Ten title and a win there will clinch a berth in the College Football Playoff, which would be their first. After the 42-27 win, Michigan football fans left their seats in the Big House to rush the field where they celebrated with players, coaches and anyone else fortunate enough to be on the field.Michigan football fans rush the field after upsetting Ohio State in the Big...
For the first time since 2018, Ohio State football has lost a Big Ten game, the first in Ryan Day’s tenure. For the first time since 2011, Michigan beat Ohio State football. This is the first win for Jim Harbaugh since taking over as the Michigan head coach, snapping a personal five-game losing streak to the Buckeyes. The loss by Ohio State is also the first Big Ten loss for the Buckeyes since Oct. 20, 2018 when they lost 55-20 to Purdue. Many fans may remember that as the game Tyler Trent introduced himself to the college football universe. The Purdue student who was battling cancer served as an incredible motivational force that led to the upset and kept Ohio State out of the playoff that year. Since then, Ohio State has won every Big Ten game. Their lone losses were in the College Football Playoff to Clemson and Alabama, respectively. All streaks come to an end at some point, but this one is going to take a long time for Ohio State fans to recover. The loss is bad...
Ohio State football helmet stickers are an iconic part of the Buckeyes uniform tradition. What do college football helmet stickers mean though? Ohio State football games are usually a spectacle whether they’re playing at the Horseshoe or the Big House. The colors and stripes on their jerseys are instantly recognizable. So are their helmets. You can’t miss the stickers that climb up the back of the helmet, higher and higher as the season goes on. What are they and what are they for? What are the stickers on Ohio State helmets? The image on the stickers is actually a buckeye leaf. According to Eleven Warriors, the original stickers were designed in 1950 by Milton Caniff, a comic artist. How do players earn Ohio State helmet stickers? The stickers were originally awarded for big plays. Now there is more of a formula. Each player gets a sticker for a win, two stickers for a win in conference and three stickers for a win over Michigan, per Eleven Warriors. Those add up throughout the season, assuming the Buckeyes are winning games. They also get stickers...
College football fans and media loved the magical visuals as Michigan and Ohio State kicked off in snowy Michigan Stadium. Playing football season in the fall means experiencing a wide range of “perfect” weather. There are hot and sunny days in September. Fall foliage arrives in October and November. Then comes the snow. Saturday’s edition of The Game between Michigan and Ohio State definitely checked that final box with snow flurries falling well before and after kickoff. College football expert picks for Week 13, including predicting the winners of Ohio State-Michigan, Oklahoma-Oklahoma State, and Auburn-Alabama. It’s rivalry week in college football, and this one might have the most impactful games in the Playoff era. Carve yourself a nice piece of sweet potato pie, grab a seat, and prepare for some intense action this week. The Egg Bowl pits Ole Miss against Mississippi State on Thanksgiving day. It will be the only ranked game and it’s on primetime. You know Lane Kiffin will have something special cooked up for Arch Manning. On Friday and Saturday, the ACC Atlantic could fall into No. 23 Clemson‘s lap as they travel to Columbia to face the Gamecocks. But that’s only if No. 20 NC State loses to rival UNC and No. 18 Wake Forest trips up against a resurgent Boston College team. But enough of the appetizers. This week’s main courses come on Saturday. Ohio State takes on Michigan in one of the most important installments in The Game in recent years. On the heels of that comes the Iron Bowl, where...

Michigan football controls its destiny to make the College Football Playoff for the first time but a big challenge stands in their way. If Michigan is going to make the College Football Playoff, the Wolverines will have to do something they haven’t done since 2011. For Michigan football to make the four-team playoff, they’ll have to beat rival Ohio State for the first time in a decade. The Wolverines have lost eight straight to the team they want to beat more than anyone. No. 6 Michigan has the best chance to end that streak since the 2016 game that went to double overtime and ended in a controversial fashion.Michigan football path to the College Football PlayoffThe direct path to making the playoff is to beat Maryland in College Station this weekend and beat Ohio State in the Big House on Nov. 27. That means Michigan is in the Big Ten Championship Game against Wisconsin or Iowa. A Big Ten championship guarantees a berth with only one loss. This is the simple path to the playoff, although it won’t be simple...
No. 4 Ohio State football controls its destiny to make a return to the College Football Playoff. After finishing as the runners-up last year, Ohio State football has unfinished business they’d like to take care of this season. The Buckeyes sit at No. 4 in the CFP rankings with two more weeks of the regular season left to play and a Big Ten Championship Game after that if they win those two games. Ohio State hosts Michigan State on Nov. 20 and then travels to Ann Arbor to take on rival Michigan on Nov. 27. If Ohio State wins both games, they’ll meet either Iowa or Wisconsin in the Big Ten Championship Game where they will be prohibitive favorites. How Ohio State football makes the College Football PlayoffThe most direct path to the playoff for Ohio State football is to win out. If Ryan Day’s team does that, they’ll be in, and likely avoid Georgia in the first round, with a No. 3 seed. Potentially, No. 2 seed if Oregon loses. This all assumes Georgia beats Alabama in the SEC...

Locking up our college football best bets for Week 11, including Purdue vs. Ohio State, Georgia vs. Tennessee and more against the spread. Oregon has one loss on the field but, for now, is undefeated in the College Football Playoff debate. The Ducks earned the No. 4 ranking from the selection committee on Tuesday — one spot ahead of Ohio State, the team they toppled early in the season, and two spots ahead of undefeated Cincinnati. “Oregon was ranked No. 4 in large part because of its win earlier in the season at Ohio State but also a good win against Fresno State,” committee chair Gary Barta said Tuesday afternoon, following the release of the first CFP rankings of the 2021 season. Given its substandard results in non-conference games, including four losses to Brigham Young, the Pac-12 couldn’t have asked for more than No. 4 for its only playoff contender. Alone among Power Five conferences, it has one representative in the selection committee’s top 25. Even the Mountain West has more (No. 23 Fresno State and No. 24 San Diego State). The conference’s poor September results threatened to undermine Oregon’s position relative to teams in stronger leagues — like Ohio State, which plays...
It’s right there, in the first sentence of the College Football Playoff’s founding document: “Establish a committee that will be instructed to place an emphasis on winning conference championships, strength of schedule and head‐to‐head competition when comparing teams with similar records and pedigree.” “Head-to-head competition.” The first sentence! But that was a decade ago and this is the Pac-12 in the 2020s, a conference on the margins that’s easily marginalized. How will the selection committee treat Oregon relative to Ohio State when the initial 2021 rankings are released Tuesday afternoon (4 p.m., ESPN)? To what extent will Oregon’s head-to-head victory offset whatever style points the Buckeyes have earned since then? Most college football pundits, pollsters and power rankings have de-emphasized the scoreboard: Ohio State is one spot above the Ducks in the latest Associated Press poll and two ahead in the Coaches poll. COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — Ohio State dismissed senior linebacker K’Vaughan Pope on Sunday after being escorted off the field during the 10th-ranked Buckeyes’ rout of Akron. “K’Vaughan will continue to have the use of programs that benefit our student-athletes, such as our Student-Athlete Support Services Office, and we will support him with his progress toward graduation,” Ohio State Ryan Day said in a statement. “He will remain on scholarship through the duration of this semester.” The incident in Saturday’s game started when Pope tried to re-enter the game in the second quarter and was waved off by teammate Teradja Mitchell. Pope began walking to the locker room and got into an altercation with linebackers coach Al Washington. He was sent to the locker room after throwing his jersey and gloves into the stands. These college football picks and best bets are sure to hit in Week 3 of the 2021 season as we’re ready to call them our locks of the week.  Maybe it’s just some early-season luck but our college football best bets and lock have been hitting at a big clip coming into a Week 3 slate that has some huge games, a couple of which appear to be ripe for the taking when you look at the odds. 2. Alabama (-15.0) vs. Florida Betting on a top-15 matchup always gives me some type of trepidation but I’m confident enough in Alabama to throw that by the wayside. The Crimson Tide’s offense may not be perfect with Bryce Young but the talent is undeniable and their line is good enough to hold Florida at bay to allow them to do just about whatever they want as long as they don’t make mistakes. The key factor here, however, is that the Gators continue to start Emory Jones, who limits the offense more than Anthony Richardson would. Subsequently going up against this elite Alabama...

The Ohio State Buckeyes’ hopes of returning to the College Football Playoff took a major hit with an upset loss to the Oregon Ducks. How can they recover? The Buckeyes went into Saturday looking for a solid out-of-conference victory to add to their College Football Playoff resumé. Instead, they got a potentially devastating loss. All hope of making the playoff is not gone, though. There remains a path to postseason glory.Ohio State football still has a road to the College Football PlayoffFirst and foremost, the Buckeyes have to win out. An early season loss can only be overcome if it’s the only loss on your resumé. Ohio State has a relatively easy ride until their bye week. The second half of the season includes more challenges playing at Indiana, against Penn State and at Michigan. They also need some help from around the country. It would benefit Ohio State greatly if Oregon went on to run through the Pac-12, winning the conference without losing. That would make the home loss look significantly better, especially since it will inevitably be...
After knocking off Ohio State in The Shoe, the Oregon Ducks are clearly on the fast track to a spot in the College Football Playoff.  Mario Cristobal’s Oregon Ducks put any potential candidacy for the College Football Playoff into question in their season-opener as they needed a late Anthony Brown 30-yard touchdown run to get past Fresno State. All it took was one game to completely turn those fortunes around, albeit a game against a top-three team in the country, Ohio State. Tabbed as more than two-touchdown underdogs on the road in Columbus, Oregon came out and made a statement with a 35-28 win over Ryan Day’s team, a group many picked to win the National Championship entering the year. Playing at a raucous Ohio Stadium on Saturday, the Ducks answered every question. Not only did running back C.J. Verdell scamper all over the Buckeyes defense while quarterback Anthony Brown took care of the ball and made numerous plays, but the Oregon defense consistently came up with big stops against one of the most talented offensive groups in the country....
Ohio Stadium hasn’t seen too many losses from the Ohio State football team. Ohio State is in danger of seeing their home winning streak come to an end today vs. Oregon. Ohio State has trailed Oregon throughout with the Ducks controlling the ground game with a physical offensive line and great running from CJ Verdell. With a seven-point lead late in the fourth quarter, if Ohio State loses, it will be the first home loss in front of Ohio Stadium fans since Week 2 of the 2017 season when Baker Mayfield and the Oklahoma Sooners beat Ohio State.Ohio State hasn’t lost at home since 2017The Sept. 9, 2017 game was the last time Buckeyes fans left Ohio Stadium without a win, a span of 23 games. That was the game where Mayfield, the eventual Heisman winner and No. 1 pick, planted the flag in the turf or at least attempted to. Ohio State went on to lose a second game later that year, falling to Iowa, which eliminated them from College Football Playoff consideration. Losing to Oregon, a playoff contender at...
Ohio State vs. Oregon is my pick for the best matchup up of week two. This Saturday, the Ducks will travel to Columbus to play the Buckeyes at noon EST on Fox, and I’m super pumped. Matchups like this one are the kinds that fans salivate over. (RELATED: David Hookstead Is The True King In The North When It Comes To College Football)   View this post on Instagram   A post shared by Ohio State Football (@ohiostatefb) While I expect OSU to roll to a relatively easy win, this game is important because it represents the only real threat Ohio State will likely face in the regular season. CJ Stroud saw your tweets pic.twitter.com/Zhc7NCVCnU — Barstool Sports (@barstoolsports) September 3, 2021 We have absolutely no reason right now to believe Michigan, PSU or any other team on OSU’s schedule will really push them.   If the Buckeyes blow Oregon off the field, then a 12-0 regular season isn’t just possible, it’s almost certainly going to be the outcome. That would more or less guarantee OSU a spot in the playoff. Can...

Even if his team achieves perfection in the regular season, Cincinnati coach Luke Fickell might not receive an invitation to the four-team College Football Playoff, a system that serves as the sport’s exclusive country club. Only the elite need apply. It’s obvious something is wrong with the system, and something needs to change. “I’ve long, long been an advocate of expanding the playoff,” VSiN’s Brent Musburger said. “I think the little guys should get a chance.” The Cincinnati kids could be the best of the little guys this season. The Bearcats return 14 starters, including star quarterback Desmond Ridder, from a team that was sitting at 9-0 last year when playoff invites were handed out to Alabama, Clemson, Ohio State and Notre Dame. Current Credit Card Interest Rates 20 Ways To Spend Less at Trader Joe’s Starting Thursday, college athletes will gain a measure of economic freedom by being allowed to profit off their name, image and likeness. Essentially, they can work for, promote or endorse specific businesses while playing sports. It might be signing autographs at a local car dealership. It might be promoting a local (or national) business on social media. It might be appearing on a billboard for a booster’s company even if it makes little financial sense for the booster other than as a way to support his or her favorite team. This has petrified the NCAA and its supposed free-market, pro-competition old-school coaches for decades as they’ve fought in courts and legislative bodies. Supposedly this will cause top talent to congregate at a few wealthy schools that are willing to spend the most. Nothing turns a capitalist into a regulatory-mad socialist quicker than college football recruiting. In reality, the impact on talent dispersion will be fairly minimal and it will help rather than hurt the competitive balance...

One stat tells you everything you need to know about Alabama’s insane level of domination. The most recent team to make its debut was the 2019 LSU Tigers, and we all know how their magical season went. Ohio Governor Mike DeWine has unveiled a new $1million a week lottery system to encourage people in his state to get vaccinated. Adults who have had at least one vaccine dose will be automatically entered into the draw each week, while minors will be able to win full-ride college scholarships in a bid to overcome vaccine hesitancy in the state.   The money will come from federal pandemic relief funds and it is hoped the prizes will reverse a recent lull in vaccine take-up. Ohio Governor Mike DeWine has unveiled a new $1million a week lottery system to encourage people to get vaccinated The move comes as governors, health officials and community leaders are coming up with creative incentives to get more shots in arms, including insider access to NFL locker rooms and an Indianapolis 500 garage, cash incentives and free travel. With three weeks to go before most state restrictions lift, DeWine rolled out the big-ticket incentives during a prime-time address.  RELATED ARTICLES Previous 1 Next Gov.
