Former US soccer star Hope Solo reflected on her DWI arrest months after she passed out behind the wheel of her car with her two-year-old twins inside - calling the moment the 'biggest mistake of my life.' 'I let alcohol get the better of me in a decision that I will never live down,' Solo said during the August 18 episode of her 'Hope Solo Speaks' podcast. She went on the call the mistake, 'a decision that has come as a great cost to me and my family.'  Solo, 41, was arrested on March 31 after being discovered passed out behind the wheel her car in a Winston-Salem, North Carolina Walmart parking lot.  Her two-year-old twins, Lozen and Vittorio, were in the backseat of the car, and the engine was still running.  The ex-USWNT goalkeeper was later convicted and hit with a 30-day prison-sentence - a sentence she did not have to serve because of the month she spent in rehab following the incident.  Solo also postponed her National Soccer Hall of Fame induction ceremony, originally to take place in May, to...

While Hope Solo rose to stardom as US soccer's star goalie, winning two gold medals and a World Cup, the athlete has become synonymous with trouble following tales of drunken behavior that led to arrests for suspicion of beating her nephew and drunk driving.    From 2000 through 2016, Solo, 40, made 202 national team appearances and helped the US a pair of Olympic gold medals in 2008 and 2012, as well as the 2015 World Cup. Despite being hailed as an icon of the sport, all was not as it seemed on the surface as Solo admitted to taking part in drunken parties during the Beijing and London Games, appearing drunk on TV during a celebration interview for the former.  By 2014, Solo would be arrested under suspicion of assaulting her half-sister and 17-year-old nephew while she was drunk, and she was later suspended from Team USA in the 2016 Rio Olympics after she lashed out against Sweden when she failed to block their winning penalty kick goal. Now, six years later, Hope finds herself in trouble again after being...

LIVERPOOL star Mo Salah thrilled football fans with a contender for goal of the season against Manchester City. Hailed by some as a strike worthy of Lionel Messi, Salah jinxed his way past City’s stubborn defence before lashing the ball home from a tight angle. 1Mo Salah scored a goal of the season contender in Liverpool's 2-2 draw with Man CityCredit: Getty The 76th minute effort saw Liverpool go 2-1 ahead at Anfield, following strikes from Sadio Mane and Phil Foden. Indeed, many believed Salah’s effort was going to be enough for Jurgen Klopp’s men. But they were undone just five minutes later when Kevin De Bruyne equalised for the champions. And the title clash at Anfield finished 2-2, with both sides picking up a point. The thriller also saw a memorable moment from City’s Bernardo Silva, who skipped his way past three Liverpool players before leaving Virgil van Dijk on the floor with a mazy run of his own. However, it was Salah’s goal that fans continued to rave about long after the final whistle. Most read in Premier...

President Joe Biden will hold a solo press conference after his meeting with Vladimir Putin next week, denying the Russian president the opportunity to stand by him and answer questions from the press.  A joint press conference is traditional when two world leaders meet and President Donald Trump held one with Putin when the two men met in Helsinki in July 2018. HO CHI MINH CITY, Vietnam—On Sept. 5, 2020, a Boeing 787 Dreamliner took off from South Korea’s Incheon International Airport en route to Vietnam. On board the repatriation flight VN409 were 403 Vietnamese citizens—including 41 unaccompanied babies, who were being sent back to the country without their parents. Waiting at the Ho Chi Minh City airport for one of the babies was Nguyen Hoa My, who had set off at 2 a.m. that same morning from her home in northern Vietnam, in order to meet up with the flight from Seoul and retrieve her granddaughter. The flight from South Korea was delayed by almost two hours. “Airport officials said the papers of two babies had gotten lost and there was a last-minute scramble to sort out the paperwork back in Seoul, which led to the delay,” Nguyen recalls. “I thought I would be able to see the baby immediately, but I was told I wouldn’t be allowed through. At that point, I didn’t yet know which quarantine center they were all heading to, but another grandmother received a tip-off and...

Jose Altuve had two errors in Game 2, but rebounded nicely on Tuesday This season’s MLB Playoffs don’t give players much time to dwell on an untimely error, or in Altuve’s case two of them. That’s neither here nor there, and Altuve was tagged with two errors on the day. A guitar solo from Eddie Van Halen was indeed an eruption. The St. Paul Chamber Orchestra today announced its fall 2020 concert schedule – for the third time. In mid-May, the SPCO announced a full season’s worth of concerts in its usual multiple venues across the Twin Cities. Pre-COVID, this would have included appearances by the SPCO’s internationally known artistic partners, plus guest artists and conductors. With travel at a standstill and the future uncertain, the orchestra tightened its belt. The artistic partners were furloughed. There would be no guest artists or conductors. In early August, with the end of COVID nowhere in sight, the orchestra canceled all concerts through December 2020, wiping out 42 live performances of a dozen programs including Handel’s “Messiah” for the holidays. Article continues after advertisement Just three weeks later, the SPCO has announced a series of six live concert video streams to be broadcast in October and November from the Ordway Concert Hall.
