KANKAKEE, Ill. (WLS) -- A Kankakee couple was killed and their three children were injured in a crash Friday in Catoosa County, Georgia.Justin and Sara Loring of Kankakee were killed. Their community has been shaken by the loss and is now rallying around their three children, who are still hospitalized but expected to survive."The kids are starting to come around," said David Decker, Sara Loring's father. "They are getting better. That's all I could think about. They're doing better, so I'm feeling better."Decker's world came to a standstill Friday when he got the call that his daughter and her husband had been killed in a traffic accident in Georgia when the driver of a semi-truck ran a red light and crashed into the family's SUV. The Loring's three children - ages 8, 12 and 14 - were in the car with them."They went on a vacation," Decker said. "They went to see their other grandparents."The driver of the semi was arrested and charged with two counts of vehicular homicide. But that is far from the minds of those who loved...
When it comes to Miami Heat two-way contracts, there has been an all-or-nothing aspect to the equation. Duncan Robinson rode one to a $90 million payday. Max Strus and Gabe Vincent turned them into pathways for playoff contributions and, likely, impending free-agency riches next summer. And then there are the likes of Daryl Macon, Yante Maten and Matt Williams Jr. They, too, held Miami Heat two-way contracts. Since then? Macon last played in Russia, Maten in Israel, Williams in Venezuela. It is, to say the least, a tenuous proposition. Not that anyone has to tell that these days to Javonte Smart and Mychal Mulder at the NBA Las Vegas Summer League. Both currently hold Heat two-way contracts, with teams limited to two such deals. Both also can be released at any point for replacement two-way options. And based on the Heat recently extending training-camp tryouts to undrafted Fresno State center Orlando Robinson and undrafted University of San Francisco guard Jamaree Bouyea, along with a return of former Heat two-way guard Marcus Garrett from wrist surgery, it certainly appears as if...
Q: Dream Scenario: Bam Adebayo improves his offensive game to average 22 points a night, Tyler Herro starts and averages 24. Victor Oladipo returns to his All-Star form, Omer Yurtseven and Caleb Martin show dramatic and consistent improvement, Kyle Lowry stays healthy and in better shape, and Jimmy Butler builds on last year’s great season. Do we really need any more? – Bob, Davie. A: That’s a heck of a dream; you must sleep well. Yes, if everything goes perfectly, to its optimal best, then it seemingly all is there for the taking. But perfection is an NBA abstract. Players do miss time. Opponents catch on defensively against emerging players. Plus, you are talking about older players attempting to keep pace. In addition, there remains the COVID element. That is why insurance policies are needed, and why the search for something more remains ongoing. Q: Can you see Haywood Highsmith and Orlando Robinson as the Heat’s new two-way contract players? – Bob. A: No, Haywood Highsmith is under a team-friendly contract the next two seasons, so I’m not sure the...

WHILE the sunny weather has been a welcome change, not being able to sleep in sweltering nighttime temperatures hasn't been so much of a treat. Fortunately, with another heatwave forecast for August, an expert has revealed a two-second trick that should help you stay cool while you snooze. 2Changing the direction of your fan could help you stay cool in the heatwaveCredit: Getty Nelson Lebo, an eco design adviser from New Zealand, has revealed why positioning your bedroom fan in a particular way could help it work more effectively. Speaking to the Daily Telegraph, he recommended pointing it in the outwards direction of your open bedroom window. While it might sound odd, it works because it blows out the warm air lingering inside your room, and pulls the cooler air in. He said: "It only works when the wind is blowing and then it works best when there is a direct route for the wind to blow through a home. The overall goal is to pull the warm air out while drawing cool air inNelson Lebo "What the fan...
The Yankees need to put terrible weekend behind and move on: ‘We’ve got to get better’ Andres Chavez May 31, 2021 ShareTweetFlipRedditThe New York Yankees got swept by a team fighting to get out of its division’s last place, the Detroit Tigers, by dropping Sunday’s finale 6-2. The team struggled offensively all week, and the weekend exhibition also included two defensive errors by shortstop Gleyber Torres, who lost his temper in the dugout at one point. “I made two mistakes; in that moment, I didn’t want anybody to say anything to me,” Torres told MLB.com after the game, after fumbling the two grounders on Sunday. “I know what I did. Mentally, it’s really frustrating for me. “For sure, I didn’t want to make two errors in the same inning — especially right now, because we’re playing the way we don’t want to play.” The Yankees were swept in Detroit for the first time since 2000, which makes what happened at Comerica Park all the more hard to believe. However, and as...
More from: Larry Brooks Boston Bruins snub of all-time great is ridiculous Rangers shakeup coming after season-crushing no-show This Rangers-Islanders game is as high-stakes as it gets Rangers facing massive decision with Islanders suddenly within striking distance Adam Foxs stellar Rangers season has historic Norris Trophy potential This wasn’t a fair fight. This wasn’t even a fight at all. The last Battle of New York at the Coliseum was by all measure the least in the history of the building. It had a preseason atmosphere, but without the brawls that once upon a time marked the rivalry. This was bloodless. This was passionless. So this was not particularly painful for the Blueshirts, whose tragic number for playoff elimination has dwindled to a single point following Saturday night’s 3-0 loss, in which Semyon Varlamov became the first goaltender to shut out the Rangers four times in a season in 67 years, since the Red Wings’ Terry Sawchuk in 1954-55. This was not Thursday. This was not a duplication of the Rangers’ unpalatable effort in the 4-0 loss at the Garden...
Getty Patrick WIlliams, Bulls rookie Patrick Williams is 19 years old and, for the Chicago Bulls, that is most important thing to remember. Despite his tender age—he is, after all, a rookie—Williams has been given some major defensive assignments in the past two weeks. He guarded reigning NBA MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo on January 1, then had LeBron James last week. In the Bulls’ last game, it was Clippers star Kawhi Leonard. While each of those stars got their points against Williams—the three combined to score 44 points on 18-for-30 shooting while guarded by Williams, according to NBA data—Williams had some good moments in those games himself. Follow the Heavy on Bulls Facebook page for the latest breaking news, rumors, and content! Against Leonard last Sunday, Williams scored a season-high 17 points. What’s remarkable, though, is the fearlessness Williams has shown in taking on top-level defensive assignments. As he gains experience, the numbers his foes post against him are going to drop. As Bulls star Zach LaVine said, according to Bulls.com, “Coach says, ‘All right, you got LeBron today...
With a vote fast approaching in a Denver City Council committee, city planners are trying to conjure up a magic number: just how many unrelated adults can live together in the same home. "We’ve heard quite a few concerns from you over the course of these last few meetings about those current proposals: chiefly, the number of people allowed to live in a dwelling unit, and concerns of very large households of unrelated adults," Andrew Webb, the senior city planner spearheading an overhaul the group-living aspects of Denver's zoning code, said at an October 6 Denver City Council Land Use, Transportation and Infrastructure Committee meeting. The current version of the proposal, which has been in the works since March 2018, suggests increasing the number of unrelated adults who can live together in the same household from two to a base of five, with the chance to increase this number to ten, depending on the square footage of a home. (An unlimited number of relatives would be allowed to live in these households, too, as is currently the case in Denver.)Related...
Bulked-up Bryson DeChambeau generally has operated under a “Big Hitter, the Lama” mindset since the PGA Tour restarted earlier this summer, hauling off and smashing historically long drives without regret or apology. “Caddyshack” references aside, DeChambeau’s decision to eschew his mighty driver for a hybrid on the final hole Sunday may have cost him an important stroke in his quest for his first major title. His finishing drive landed in the rough and he bogeyed the par-4 18th to drop to two strokes behind leader Matthew Wolff in the U.S. Open at Winged Foot. “If the situation is right and driver makes sense [Sunday], blast it up there, hit it in the rough and then hit a wedge on the green where it feeds off the back part of the slope, it makes sense,” DeChambeau said. “I haven’t done it this week, though, so I’ve just got to hit a better hybrid. I did not. Just started out to the right and didn’t draw it back.” DeChambeau had birdied the previous two holes to give himself a chance to tie...
Apple’s warranty program, AppleCare Plus, just saw a significant expansion in its coverage with an added annual repair for accidental damage. The changes, spotted first yesterday by MacRumors in the wake of Apple’s “Time Flies” hardware reveal, mean AppleCare Plus owners are now covered for two cases of accidental damage coverage every 12 months. That’s a total of four fixes over the standard two years of coverage. The prior window for those two incidents of coverage was 24 months (or 36 months for certain products like Macs). It appears this is the case not just for the iPhone but for all other AppleCare Plus-eligible products, which include AirPods, Apple TV, Apple Watch, Beats headphones, HomePod, iPad, iPod Touch, Mac, and Pro Display XDR. You can see the changes applied at the new AppleCare Plus website here, and the older version of the website as it existed a few days ago here. In some cases, AppleCare Plus coverage for products like Macs and the Pro Display XDR was listed as simply “two incidents of accidental damage coverage,” with no...
