A PAIR of twins that had their own strange language and would stay motionless when separated would remain tied at the hip, indulging in criminal behavior, until one had unexpectedly died. June and Jennifer Gibbons, whose parents were from Barbados, were born in 1963 on a Briitish military base in Yemen and then moved to Wales in the early 1970s. 4Jennifer (left) and June (right) Gibbons were known as 'The Silent Twins'Credit: BBC 4Growing up, the twins spoke their own language toward each otherCredit: BBC/YouTube Being the only black children in their elementary school, the girls were bullied, but this only tightened their bond and increased their unwillingness to talk with others, giving them the nickname "the silent twins." While their parents spoke English at home, June and Jennifer would speak their own language as children, which was believed to be a sped-up version of Bajan Creole. “They started talking late and when they finally did speak, their words came out garbled," Marjorie Wallace, author of the 1986 book The Silent Twins, told NPR in 2015. "They chirped and squeaked, enunciating...
Despite being traded from the Utah Jazz to the Cleveland Cavaliers, Donovan Mitchell has come out and said that he could have gone to the Knicks, but there is more to the story than what we know. Leave it to the New York Knicks to find a way to blow an opportunity to get a superstar like Donovan Mitchell in their building, like only they can. Once again, they had an opportunity to get a superstar and bring light into Madison Square Garden, and once again, the Knicks failed to do so. However, there’s another part of this story that hasn’t been told up until now. In an interview with ESPN’s Brian Windhorst, Mitchell explained how he believed he would end up with the Knicks. President Joe Biden paid tribute to Queen Elizabeth II on Thursday afternoon, saluting the stability and constancy she brought to Britain and to the world.  'In a world of constant change, she was a steadying presence and a source of comfort and pride for generations of Britons, including many who have never known their country without her,' he said. 'An enduring admiration for Queen Elizabeth II united people across the Commonwealth.' Biden, who met the Queen at least three times was reportedly told of her death during a meeting in the Oval Office.   'Queen Elizabeth II was a stateswoman of unmatched dignity and constancy who deepened the bedrock Alliance between the United Kingdom and the United States. She helped make our relationship special,' he said. Biden had been scheduled to deliver remarks on COVID-19 vaccines at the White House. But the event was canceled minutes after Buckingham Palace announced the Queen's death. Some of President Joe Biden's biggest gaffes, including his infamous story about a guy called 'Corn Pop', are reenacted in the upcoming film My Son Hunter. One scene, exclusively obtained by DailyMail.com, puts on display Biden's catch phrases, like his frequent use of 'come on man,' as well as some of his mistake-ridden statements, like confusing words for each other. 'I drew dialogue from actual incidents or documents, transcripts or emails reported in the media as the base language of Hunter and Joe's characters, many of them actual quoted lines,' Brian Godawa, the screenwriter for My Son Hunter, told DailyMail.com. He added: 'And many of them were taken from Hunter's actual emails from his laptop.' The scene obtained by DailyMail.com shows Hunter and his father having a tender moment in the car discussing failure and struggle before the president is derailed into an off-topic story about someone he called 'Corn Pop.' 'Bidens don't wallow in self pity,' said the president, portrayed by Dynasty actor John James. 'Look, I suffered a hell of a lot more than you ever will –...

Senate Republicans Chuck Grassley and Ron Johnson wrote a letter to Facebook demanding they hand over any communications they had with the FBI and the DOJ regarding Hunter Biden's laptop and business dealings. The letter, addressed to Mark Zuckerberg, also requests names of FBI and DOJ officials who told the social media behemoth that a document dump ahead of the 2020 election was 'Russian disinformation.'  That warning allegedly pushed Facebook to censor and shut down reports regarding the laptop in the New York Post.   Johnson and Grassley write: 'The American people deserve to know whether the FBI used Facebook as part of their alleged plan to discredit information about Hunter Biden.' New York Jets offensive tackle Grant Hermanns seals off the blindside with Purdue in 2020. It’s a crazy concept when you think about it. After overanalyzing every roster spot all summer and agonizing over potential cuts, NFL general managers often pivot to waivers and claim up talented players that have slipped through the cracks — in effect releasing more bubble candidates than initially anticipated. The Kansas City Chiefs could certainly be among those players on the waiver wire this week, although they find themselves at the low-end of the order based on the 2021 season. Having said that, there’s still some wiggle room on the roster for a move or two to be made, and one area to bulk up could be at offensive tackle.Jets OT Grant Hermanns Is ‘Worth Looking Into’USA Today Sports media member Charles Goldman of Chiefs Wire suggested New York Jets offensive tackle Grant Hermanns as a cut candidate to keep an eye on. He reasoned: A former teammate of Chiefs rookie DE George Karlaftis at Purdue, Hermanns is a towering tackle at 6-7...
Maher then asked, "It's a little bit of a thorny question because once you go down this road – this is sort of where we are in this country, the other side is so evil, anything is justified in preventing them from taking office. Is it?" Reiner – a staunch Democrat activist – deflected from Maher's question with a whataboutism defense of harping on the Jan. 6 riot. "You know what's not justified? Using armed violence to try to kill people in the Capitol. That's not justified," Reiner replied. Maher attempted to get back to his original question; and asked if it was "appropriate to bury the Hunter Biden" story? Maher noted, "They buried the Hunter Biden story before the election because they were, like, ‘We can’t risk having the election thrown to Trump. We’ll tell them after the election.'" The "All in the Family" actor quizically asked, "And we know for a fact that that’s what they did?" Maher exclaimed, "Of course! You don’t follow this?" Reiner conceded, "I don’t know that they did." Maher then...
(CNN)In a rare and lengthy interview, Mark Zuckerberg spoke with controversial comedian and podcast host Joe Rogan about Meta's plans to release a new virtual-reality headset, his newfound love of jiu-jitsu and his company's decision to limit the reach of an article about Hunter Biden that came out in the final weeks leading up to the 2020 election. In the three-hour chat with "The Joe Rogan Experience" podcast, Zuckerberg detailed his company's plans to release a new virtual-reality headset in October. Zuckerberg said the forthcoming headset will have "a few big features," including eye- and face-tracking so that people's VR avatars can accurately mimic their facial expressions and users can feel as if their avatar is looking directly at another person's avatar in VR social apps. The company's most recent VR headset, Quest 2, was released in October 2020. The release of the interview with Rogan comes a week after Zuckerberg was widely criticized online for the simplicity of his avatar in Horizon Worlds, which is Meta's flagship social VR app. (Zuckerberg later admitted the image he shared was "pretty basic.")...

(CNN)John McAfee was a strange, eccentric figure, who helpfully allowed cameras to chronicle almost every beat of his frenzied, paranoia-filled flight from the authorities. Yet "Running With the Devil: The Wild World of John McAfee" suffers from zooming in too close on its subject, leaving a documentary that's chaotic and exhausting but offers less enlightenment than a more sober approach might have yielded.Director Charles Russell draws upon footage shot by Vice reporter Rocco Castoro and cameraman Robert King beginning in 2012, when they joined up with the wealthy antivirus software pioneer (whose company bears his name) while he was on the run from law enforcement in Belize, suspected in the murder of his neighbor, Gregory Faull. To reinforce how bonkers everything here is, their dispute had centered on McAfee's dogs barking at Faull's pet parrot. With ample money, guns and drugs at his disposal (which sounds like a Warren Zevon song), McAfee spent the next several years as what he calls as a seasoned "flight risk." In between, he somehow found time to mount a Libertarian Party candidacy for president, publicly...
There’s something decidedly uncomfortable about the premise of Look Both Ways, Netflix’s latest hit original film. (Currently, it’s the streamer’s number one movie in the U.S.) The night of her college graduation, Natalie (Lili Reinhart) takes a pregnancy test. Weeks before, she hooked up with her best guy friend; now, she’s worried she might be having his baby. In comes the movie’s primary gimmick: The storyline splits in two, with one following Natalie after her test is positive, the other after it’s negative. As opposed to committing to just one of these potential pathways, Look Both Ways has some fun with exploring both outcomes. Yet there’s something off about watching Natalie blossom into her baby-less, post-grad life in one timeline—while also seeing her move back home and be unemployed, single, and depressed in the other. Netflix Look Both Ways explicitly refers to itself as “pro-[her] choice,” then showcases how miserable that choice can be. Which is fine! Plenty of women wind up pregnant and don’t choose to have an abortion. Lord knows that right now, plenty of women don’t even...

Social media users hit out at Meghan Markle for touting, yet again, how she challenged a major American consumer goods company over its 'sexist' dish soap advert at just 11 years old. Markle, 41, shared the tale during the first episode of her 'Archetypes' podcast which was released on Spotify today. She said she took action by launching a 'letter writing campaign' to political pundits, including the-First Lady Hillary Clinton, to challenge the verbiage the company used in the commercial. The Duchess of Sussex said the experience was 'awakening to the millions of ways, big and small, that our society tries to box women in.' Twitter users criticised Markle for sharing the 'yawn' provoking childhood story again, alleging it makes her 'look more pathetic' to continue discussing the alleged injustice 30 years later. Her critics also slammed the podcast as being unbearable, noting they were 'ready to turn it off after 20 seconds.' The Argentine college student who is pictured in the 'Girl Explaining' meme has finally revealed how the viral photo came about. DEAR MISS MANNERS: My oldest son passed away within the past month. I am very fearful of sharing this with friends and close acquaintances, as one person took this as an opening to share all her family health issues and the death, within the past year, of her brother. What happens to my friends matters greatly to me. It always has. Right now, I’m trying to deal with this unbelievable loss. Other than either saying nothing or not acknowledging their loss, how do I keep people from sharing their pain with me? I’m not strong enough to deal with their pain and try to deal with mine as well. GENTLE READER: Nor should it be expected of you. There is a callous cruelty in expecting people to jump back immediately into the day-to-day tumble after a loss such as yours. And in relating their own troubles. Miss Manners offers her condolences and suggests you absent yourself for a time from normal social life while you grieve — a process that used to be called mourning. Related Articles Advice |...

Five Texas college students are facing criminal charges following the 2019 death of a Texas Christian University freshman, after one allegedly pushed him off a boat while flirting.  A witness claims she saw Jack Elliot fall from the bow of a 22-foot boat after Delaney Brennan, 21, pushed him while flirting out on the waters of Lake Travis, a manmade lake, northwest of Austin, in October 2019.  Delaney and Jack, 19, had been kissing when she gave him a 'playful shove' that left him overboard before hitting a propeller and drowning in the water. But teens who were present on the boat attempted to conceal the truth - before the circumstances were revealed in a wrongful death lawsuit launched by Elliot's grieving family in 2020.  'Delaney and Jack were at the front of the boat, flirting and kissing. Editor’s note: This story is part of the annual Mosaic Journalism Workshop for Bay Area high school students, a two-week intensive course in journalism. Students in the program report and photograph stories under the guidance of professional journalists. Buzz Lightyear went to infinity, but not beyond. In the long-anticipated Pixar spinoff of the “Toy Story” movie franchise, “Lightyear” features a bad combination of rushed character development and poorly executed references to other sci-fi movies. That might explain its low sales in its opening weekend — an estimated $51 million at U.S. and Canadian box offices, or $7.6 million behind the second weekend of Universal’s “Jurassic World: Dominion.” By the end of July, it had doubled that figure to $117.8 million. It is being released on Disney Plus on Aug. 3. “Lightyear”’s structure relies on many worn-out science fiction storylines that have been told over and over — the classic alien bugs versus human explorers and the copy-and-paste of space capsule designs from other classic franchises were overdone to the point where the storyline seemed lacking in originality. The Wall Street Journal says Elon Musk's online attacks against Investigations Editor Michael Siconolfi are 'unwarranted and unfounded after the paper claimed Musk had an affair with the then-wife of Google's co-founder.  A Wall Street Journal spokesman told DailyMail.com that they were 'confident in our sourcing and stand by our reporting.' WSJ also noted Siconolfi was 'not part of the editing team' for Grind and Glazer's story. The Tesla CEO called out Siconolfi and the newspaper on Twitter after the publication of a recent article claiming he had an affair with Nicole Shanahan, the estranged wife of Google co-founder Sergey Brin. The 'fake hit piece' - as Musk called it - argued the alleged affair served as a catalyst for Shanahan and Brin's divorce. It is unclear why Musk, 51, publicly slammed Siconolfi as reporters Kristen Grind and Emily Glazer are named as the only authors on the article. (CNN)Different sex, same city in "Uncoupled," original "Sex and the City" producer Darren Star's look at gay life and love in very upper-crust New York, where the most decadent porn is of the pricey Manhattan real-estate variety. Mostly, the Netflix comedy serves as a vehicle for Neil Patrick Harris as the suddenly single protagonist, while feeling too tired to forge much of a love connection.Harris' Michael is stunned when his longtime partner Colin (Tuc Watkins) announces that he's moving out, leaving him alternately wondering what went wrong and eager to reconcile. At the same time, after his lengthy bout with monogamy, he's vaguely intrigued by the prospect of experiencing some of the pleasures that he's missed, if a little mystified regarding how to go about that. Indeed, times have changed since he was single, which leads to a lot of misread signs and awkward encounters, especially with the few younger chaps that pass through his orbit.Co-created by Star and Jeffrey Richman ("Modern Family"), "Uncoupled" isn't fully committed to that dating-again story arc, as Michael spends a lot of time hanging out...

(CNN)Marking Billy Porter's film directing debut, "Anything's Possible" is a sensitive high-school love story that's so light on conflict as to risk blowing away. Placing a trans teen at its center adds some heft to material that would in an earlier era would have been presented as an after-school special, but the uplifting and timely messaging can't completely elevate this earnest but thin Amazon movie. The key relationship involves Kelsa (Eva Reign), a trans girl who doesn't want that aspect of her life to overshadow everything else that's unique about her as she plans for college and beyond; and Khal (Abubakr Ali), a shy and likable boy with a fuzzier future who is still finding himself.Sparks fly almost instantly when the two share a class together, with the minor complication that Kelsa's friend (Courtnee Carter) also has a crush on him.Therein lies the movie's main problem, since all the complications in Ximena García Lecuona's script feel relatively minor, and slightly scattered: Khal worrying about whether his family will approve; Khal's friend (Grant Reynolds) exhibiting a transphobic side; Kelsa being told Khal...
Schmitt also pointed out that many Missouri residents don't trust the FBI because of various recent scandals involving the bureau. "You may wonder why there is such strong suspicion of federal agents here in the ‘Show Me State.’ Simply put, Missourians are hard-working, law-abiding citizens who don’t need a national nanny-state keeping tabs on us. But more than that, over the last couple of years, we’ve seen story after story of incompetence and corruption at the highest levels of the FBI," he added. The FBI said in a statement to Fox News that the audit would be routine and that no personal information would be at risk. Schmitt, however, pointed directly to the "witch hunt" against former President Donald Trump to support his contention that the FBI could not be trusted. The story consumed the next two months of my life. Throughout this time, I spoke routinely with Gabby's father, Joseph Petito. Most of what we spoke about, I have never reported, but one thing he made clear to me is that he wanted the media to cover other missing people. He said they deserved attention, too, and he was right. I started to look at databases of missing people across the Tri-State area and as I scrolled through the hundreds of faces, I thought about not only those people but their families and friends and the ripple effect of...
