Fans of a good burger or a fresh tuna tartare might not know of a new up-and-coming restaurant snuggled inside a SaksWorks club.  Fairfield County's Ruby & Bella's in Greenwich opened its doors just a couple of months ago and is quickly becoming one of the "it" places to go to escape the cold with a cocktail and a bite to eat. Inside the SakWorks Club on Greenwich Avenue, the restaurant is open to the public and features a laid-back, but semi-fancy decor that draws diners in for a relaxing lunch or dinner. Known for the superb service, and local and seasonal ingredients, the menu is small but features a little something for everyone.  Menu favorites by reviewers include the aforementioned tuna tartare, the jumbo lump crabcake, the lobster club, and bone-in filet mignon and a skirt steak served with a quail egg and fried rice. Cocktail concoctions are also a hit, with many mentioning the hot toddy made with Laphroaig for after dinner, the high fashion, and an espresso martini.  A must-have for dessert is the Chocolate pot De...

The gunman pistol-whipped a male customer before punching a female manager in the face.  Bayron-Nieves, who just started the job three weeks ago, gave the robber $100 cash from the drawer, an eyewitness said, according to her mother.  The criminal turned to leave, but turned around again and shot Bayron-Nieves in the chest, according to the New York Post.  The teen was transported to nearby Metropolitan Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.  'She didn't deserve to be mowed down while working at a Burger King,' a police source said. Her family told the...
Officials with the Metro Nashville Social Services and the Nashville-based Room in the Inn announced Saturday that, after the many impacts of COVID-19, faith-based groups will return to the city’s Cold Weather Shelter Plan. Before COVID-19, Metro Nashville and Room in the Inn officials had relied on more than 200 faith centers to help house the homeless during the winter months. As a result, far fewer homeless people could access shelter when temperatures dropped below 28 degrees. Exactly 60 fair centers coordinated with the city last year. Currently, on Nashville’s coldest nights, 89 places of faith offer overnight shelters between November through March. Additionally, Room in the Inn’s downtown campus and the Nashville Rescue Mission provide cold weather shelter. The city’s Extreme Cold Weather Overflow Shelter is the backup shelter once all other facilities reach capacity. Metro spokeswoman Harriet Wallace told The Tennessee Star on Saturday that the city is working aggressively to collaborate with community partners. “The main message is homelessness cannot be solved in a day,” Wallace said. “But we are absolutely working tirelessly and more...

BEFORE every night out, us girls face a crucial decision - either commit to taking a coat to the club and putting it in the cloakroom OR brave the cold and go without. Naturally, we always opt for the latter and over the years we've got pretty good at dealing with the freezing temperatures. 4Scientists have revealed why women generally don't feel the cold on nights outCredit: Getty Well it turns out, there's actually a scientific explanation behind this. In August, the British Journal of Psychology published a new study titled "When looking 'hot' means not feeling cold: Evidence that self-objectification inhibits feelings of being cold". Posting on her TikTok account, one of the study's co-authors Roxanne Felig explained how they were intrigued by the Cardi B lyric: "It's cold outside but I'm still looking like a t****** because a h** never gets cold." Roxanne explained: "So basically, it seems like what Cardi was saying was that she was too focussed on how she looked and what she was wearing to feel cold. FABULOUS BINGO: GET A £5 FREE BONUS...

Reuters February 17, 2021 0 Comments Roberto Manuel wore two shirts, three jackets and four pairs of pants to brace himself for subzero temperatures in Matamoros, the Mexican city opposite Texas, where he lives in a flimsy tent while waiting to resolve an asylum claim in the United States. “It was cold last year, but not like this with ice,” the 43-year-old said on Tuesday evening by phone from the encampment, where he is among about 1,000 migrants, most from Central America, hoping to be granted refuge across the border. Manuel, from Nicaragua, has lived there a year and a half under former President Donald Trump’s controversial Migrant Protection Protocols (MPP) program that makes asylum seekers wait in Mexico for U.S. court hearings. He is hopeful that President Joe Biden will make migration policies more humane, ending the uncertainty of his life in limbo on the border so he can make plans to work with a friend in Miami. In fact, Biden’s administration has said a new process will gradually begin in coming days to allow thousands of MPP...

Wednesday, January 6, 2021 at 7:58 pm – Since mid-December, temperatures have been higher than seasonal norms. This weekend, the province will return to true seasonal cooling. In short Normal temperature for a month; Unfavorable environment for cold waves; Twist: Winter cold feeling in sight. A rare occurrence Meteorology Since the onset of winter, Quebec has experienced higher than normal temperatures. In fact, since mid-December, there has been no cold eruption. In addition, the nights are much lighter than usual. Wednesday rarely drops below -20 below C. In the metropolitan area, at least this value is not reached. Well established trend The first half of January will take place under a mild regime. On average, in Montreal, there are eight nights below -20 below C. But it is not only the metropolitan area that is experiencing a cold shortage. In Saguna and September-Îles, below -20 below C is very rare. These regions, however, are expected to experience nearly twenty in January. Very different weekend For the first time since mid-December, mercury will drop...
After two years of planning Number Thirty Eight, an eatertainment complex complete with an outdoor stage and volleyball courts, as well as an indoor restaurant with two long bars, owners Spencer Fronk and Andrew Palmquist weren't going to surrender to a pandemic. This weekend they opened their venue at 3560 Chestnut Place, named for Colorado's position as the 38th state to join the Union. Although they have plans to open similar spots in other states, this is the first, and it focuses on Colorado. "We're trying to encapsulate what it means to live in Colorado," Fronk states. "We're going to create the après lifestyle right here in the city." While many readers are excited for an option that would let them hear live music again — while drinking from a large selection of Colorado craft beers — others have their doubts, as evidenced by comments posted on the Westword Facebook page. Says Jeremy: It’s Colorado, not Florida. Do these clowns even know how cold nights are in Denver from late October until mid- May? It’s cold, bros... Responds Jenny: ...
Number Thirty Eight, a massive food, drink and live-music venue in RiNo, is about as Colorado-centric as it gets. The name refers to how this great state was the thirty-eighth to join the union; there are 24 local brews on tap, and the space serves local spirits as well. Founders Spencer Fronk and Andrew Palmquist say it boasts 18,000 square feet of outdoor space. That includes a huge patio, stage and volleyball courts, all of which take a cue from Colorado’s après ski culture. And that means Number Thirty Eight will be hosting outdoor concerts even after the weather turns cold. The venue, which opens Friday, October 9 with music from indie-pop singer-songwriter Zach Heckendorf, is set to host shows three nights a week, with each band playing two sets a night, at 5 and 8 p.m. The shows will include rising stars playing across genres. Indie-pop act South of France plays two nights this weekend, while indie-psych band Augustus, rapper extraordinaire Old Man Saxon, the road-trip rockers in Whitacre, and gifted singer-songwriters Lucas Wolf and Covenhoven are...
