The Chicago Bears held their second day of rookie minicamp Saturday in Lake Forest. The 11-man draft class continued to learn the ropes amid a pack of 69 players that also included 16 undrafted rookies under contract and a horde of tryout players. Here are four things we learned. 1. Offensive lineman Ja’Tyre Carter continues to honor the memory of his late brother. Carter, one of three seventh-round picks, arrived at Halas Hall this week with wide eyes. He is from a one-stoplight town in White Castle, La., and journeyed to the NFL through Southern University in the NCAA’s Football Championship Subdivision. So when he pulled into Bears headquarters for rookie minicamp, it was an experience. “Crazy,” Carter said. “It was a sight, man. Just coming from where I come, small school in high school and college, it was a lot to take in.” An offensive tackle at Southern, Carter is beginning a transition to guard and will have to fight the next four months to earn a roster spot. He said he pushes himself every day in honor of...
OAKLAND — An Alameda County jury is deliberating the fate of a 30-year-old man accused by murder, after a trial that rests significantly on the word of a former co-defendant who accepted a plea deal in exchange for his testimony. Odell Jones, 30, is facing murder, robbery, and assault charges in the November 2017 killing of 25-year-old Justin Sessions, in what police describe as a robbery set up targeting Sessions and his brother. Jones’ former co-defendant, Darryl Hickman, 34, allegedly set up the robbery by offering the Sessions brothers below-market-rate laptops. The witnesses include Justin Sessions’ brother, Joshua Sessions, who was present when he and his brother were robbed by gunmen who brought a duffel bag to the scene to make it appear that they were bringing the merchandise. Police say the idea from the start was to rob the Sessions brothers at gunpoint of the cash they brought for the computers. Jones’ trial wrapped up Wednesday, with prosecuting and defense attorneys giving jurors their final pitches. Just weeks before trial, Hickman accepted a plea deal, pleading no contest to...
An Ohio brother and sister are facing felony charges after being accused of working together to cut down a massive tree on public land near Cleveland – a tree that park officials believe is "possibly over 250 years old" and worth more than $28,000.  Todd Jones and Laurel Hoffman are each facing counts of grand theft and falsification following the removal of the black walnut tree in the Mill Stream Run Reservation in Strongsville last September. In a Cleveland Metroparks police report obtained by Fox News Digital, a naturalist measured the tree’s stump to be 66 inches in diameter and 207 inches in circumference – just shy of the largest of its kind in Ohio, which are 211 and 227 inches in circumference.  "We suspect the tree was possibly over 250 years old," Jacqueline Gerling, the director of communications for Cleveland Metroparks, told Fox News Digital. "Given our urban setting and the threats to healthy tree growth, it is very uncommon to find a black walnut of this size."  The stump after the tree was chopped down inside the Mill Stream Run Reservation in...

Lorraine, now 18 and a mum-of-one from Northamptonshire, told how Jones bullied her into keeping their “little secret” until he and his family moved away. Finally free of his abuse, she found the courage to report Jones, and in June last year he was jailed after being found guilty of four counts of sexual assault. But his meagre sentence - just 25 months - left Lorraine and her family sickened. Now...

The Jones’ kids said they had a strong reason for wanting to do this for these children. “Our mammaw (Janet Caudill) actually worked there for a long time and when I was little, she would actually bring some kids to the house while I was there, so I spent time with them,” Eli Jones said. “It was something to do and she definitely has a passion for them and I felt it was something I should take up like my mammaw since she was so dedicated.” The Jones’ mother, Erica, said that her mother worked for the SCDD for 16 years. “I would take him down to visit all the time and we would go down there and we got kind of attached to the kids. Now that the kids are older...
