City trader Robert Van Den Bergh, 37, was accused of caressing the dozing woman's thigh on the flight to Heathrow A newlywed City analyst accused of groping a dozing student as he flew back from his Hawaiian honeymoon has been cleared after he insisted he did not intentionally touch her - and saying it's hard to 'keep a distance' in economy.  The passenger had said Robert Van Den Bergh, 37, stroked her thigh for up to two hours as he sat next to her on a United Airlines flight. Van Den Bergh was returning to Heathrow after a two-week honeymoon on the island of Maui. The economics student had taken two sleeping pills and told Isleworth Crown Court that she was frozen with fear. She reported the married father-of-one to airline staff and he was escorted off the plane by police officers when it landed. Van Den Bergh was cleared by a jury of sexual assault after he insisted he 'did not at any point intentionally touch the complainant during the flight.' He told the court: 'I refute the allegation...
This is the shocking moment a baby was snatched by a stranger after her mother turned her back on the eight-month-old for just ten seconds while selecting food at a South African supermarket. Mother-of-two Daniella Wolff had placed her daughter in the child seat of her shopping trolley as she selected items from the chilled meat fridges at her local SuperSpar store in the city of Alberton, near Johannesburg.  But as she turned her back to open the glass door and bent down to pick up the meat, a shop employee calmly walked over and snatched her baby from the shopping trolley. CCTV shows the butchery assistant lifting the baby out of the trolley and walking away with the youngster in his arms.  Mother-of-two Daniella Wolff had placed her daughter in the child seat of her shopping trolley as she selected items from the chilled meat fridges at her local SuperSpar store in the city of Alberton, near Johannesburg But as she turned her back to open the glass door and bent down to pick up the meant, a shop...
For decades, my bleach-white limbs were seen as ghoulish. Boys trailed after me at school, clicking along to the theme tune of The Addams Family. Yet something seismic is finally happening to complexions. After 100 years of golden-girl rule, skin untouched by orange tans, real or fake, is now in vogue. Take the red carpet at Cannes, usually a catwalk of Californian sun. Not this year. From Jennifer Connelly and Anne Hathaway to even Kylie Minogue, sun-kissed figures gave way to natural beauty in front of the flashing cameras. And at last week’s Downton Abbey: A New Era premiere in New York, Downton’s damsels displayed their natural skin tones, despite the movie celebrating the epoch when Riviera tans first took the world by storm. Natural look: Australian actress Nicole Kidman glowing in 2012, left, and this March Just don’t call me Arter-tan: Bond girl Gemma Arterton in 2008, inset, and last week Goodbye caramel: Star Anne Hathaway in 2009, left, and looking much fairer in Cannes this year As ever, it was Lady Mary who led the charge. Dr Robert Califf, 71, has been head of the FDA since February 17 The man overseeing the three-month shutdown of one of the most important baby formula factories in the United States is a controversial medical expert with strong links to big pharma, who has been accused of taking insufficient action to combat the opioid crisis. Robert Califf, 71, was appointed by Joe Biden to head the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and sworn in two months ago, and is now facing questions about his organization's role in the baby formula crisis. The FDA earlier this year inspected a manufacturer in Sturgis, Michigan, after reports that the baby formula produced there could be contaminated. Consumers reported four infants who were sick, including three with cronobacter sakazakii infections and one with salmonella newport, and had been fed formula products made at the Sturgis plant. A fourth infant with cronobacter sakazakii was later added to the investigation by the U.S. Centers for Disease and Control Prevention. Cronobacter sakazakii can cause life threatening sepsis infections or meningitis and may have contributed to the...

Rep. Michael McCaul, R-Texas, told "The Faulkner Focus" on Friday that the Biden administration "got caught" on its wide-open border policy, reacting to new footage of flights landing in New York loaded with migrants.  REP. HINSON INTRODUCES BILL TO BLOCK TAXPAYER FUNDS BEING USED FOR MIGRANT FLIGHTS MICHAEL MCCAUL: It has been going on for quite some time, since the beginning of this administration. They just got caught on a video in the middle of the night. They’ve been telling us all along these are minors being transported. These are young adult males, many with criminal histories being released into the streets. Worse than that, the taxpayer is paying for like a travel service. We’re turning border patrol and ICE agents into a travel service into the United States. Enough is enough.  That’s why when Mayorkas talked to his agents in Arizona, one of them turned his back on Mayorkas and he said why are you doing that to me and the answer was because you turned your back on us. And that is so true. They are demoralized. I’ve...
Californian born skier Eileen Gu, one of the most promising young stars of the Winter Olympics, will compete for China at this year's games after turning her back on Team USA.  The 18-year-old was born and raised in San Francisco. She attended high school in there, and has won a place to study at Stanford.  Her mother Yan is a first-generation Chinese immigrant and her father, reportedly American, has never been publicly named. Despite competing as an American for most of her youth career in freestyle skiing, Gu will this year compete at the Olympics for China.  She made the decision in 2019 at the age of 15, claiming at the time she wanted to inspire a generation of young Chinese girls to pursue winter sports - which are comparatively less celebrated and glamorous in Asia than in the US.  It is unclear now where Gu's American citizenship stands - China does not recognize dual citizenship and minors under the age of 16 cannot renounce their US citizenship because they are not deemed mature enough to make the decision.  Gu's...
The prison pen pal turned third wife of late Louisiana Governor Edwin Edwards has gone to war with his adult children - who are all more than two decades older than her - after she allegedly had his remains exhumed and cremated without telling them. Trina Edwards, 43, had her husband's corpse dug up from a cemetery in Baton Rouge just 10 weeks after he was laid to rest, following his death aged 93 back in July.  His ashes currently sit on a nightstand in the home she shared with Edwards in Gonzalez while she decides on a final resting place.  The move has drawn the ire of the Democratic governor's three eldest children - Anna, Stephen and Victoria - who claim the widow ignored their father's wishes and that the reality star is trying to claw back her '15 minutes of fame.'   Edwards, a four-term governor who served eight years in prison for corruption, was married three times and has five children. Last year the 64-year-old launched a podcast, but now that things are opening up he’s back to telling jokes on the road. His current tour takes him to Tampa Improv where he'll perform four shows over two days in Ybor City. We talked with Saget about losing a dear friend, singing as a monster, playing a killer in a police procedural, and performing stand-up comedy. House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy blasted President Biden for sticking to an Aug. 31 withdrawal deadline from Afghanistan and said "thousands of Americans" could be left stranded in the Taliban-controlled country as a result. "The president's misguided decisions run the risk of creating the largest international hostage situation we've ever faced as a nation," McCarthy, R-Calif., said at Capitol news conference on Wednesday.  Biden has faced bipartisan criticism for honoring the Taliban-backed withdrawal date for U.S. troops of Aug. 31 as Americans and Afghan allies are still seeking evacuation from the Kabul airport. The U.S. military is currently stationed at the airport and undertaking a major logistical operation to get Americans and others on outbound flights from Kabul.  PELOSI SLAMS REPS. MOULTON, MEIJER FOR 'FREELANCE' AFGHANISTAN TRIP: 'DEADLY SERIOUS' McCarthy called the withdrawal effort in Afghanistan the "the biggest foreign policy failure" and he accused Biden of turning his back on Americans.  "He turned his back on our own citizens stranded in Afghanistan," McCarthy said. " … He's turned his back on his duties as a commander in chief." AFGHANISTAN...
Former Ambassador Ryan Crocker, who served as the U.S.' chief diplomat to several Middle East countries from the George H.W. Bush administration through that of President Obama, lamented the state of Afghanistan following President Joe Biden's hasty withdrawal. "The scary part for me: They're back," Crocker -- who notably served as ambassador to Afghanistan under the younger George Bush as well as Obama – said of Al Qaeda. "It’s a very sad and disturbing time for all Americans; everyone to be looking at the scenes, particularly yesterday and the day before at Kabul airport -- to see that all that was done and attempted in Afghanistan is being brushed away," he told Martha MacCallum on "The Story." Crocker said the Afghan mission was much different than that of the War in Iraq: "We were in Afghanistan for one reason for 20 years to ensure that never again would its soil be used to attack our homeland," he said. VideoCrocker said there is strong evidence Al Qaeda will make a resurgence under its suspected ally the Taliban. "We’ve seen this...
Q: I work at Catholic Charities on Zanker Road in San Jose. For months now, when I come into work and when I leave the office, I smell a detestable, pungent odor hanging over the intersection of Zanker and Trimble. Do you know why? Vicente Lovelace, Santa Clara A: Oh, my, yes. There are two sources of this rotten egg odor. One is the Newby Island Landfill, at the west end of Dixon Landing Road. Another is an old sewer line built in 1948 that emits high levels of smelly hydrogen sulfide near the San Jose airport. A new sewer line has largely been completed and should make the smell lessen. The worst time for this smell is when the weather is hot. Q: It happened again last week. I was waiting for a traffic light, merging from a minor street onto El Camino Real. My light changed from red to green, and I paused before proceeding. This time it was a car traveling from my left. The car did not even slow down and proceeded right through...
A bridge in Jacksonville, Florida was illuminated in rainbow colors once again, after the Pride Month display was abruptly changed earlier this week. The Acosta Bridge was lit up to honor the LGBTQ community on June 7 — but on June 8, the colorful display was changed to blue lights, CBS affiliate WJAX reports. Jacksonville Transportation Authority planned to have the rainbow display on until June 13. The authority told WJAX that the Florida Department of Transportation informed them the rainbow lighting scheme was out of compliance with its current permit. But the state agency rejected that claim. In a statement to the affiliate, the department said: "Aesthetic lighting on the Acosta Bridge is owned and operated by JTA. Questions about their lighting system, function and permit should be referred to JTA." Happy #Pride Jacksonville! More On: broadway Tony Awards get demoted in blow to theater industry’s visibility Iconic ‘Heartbreak Kid’ and ‘Beethoven’ actor dead at 86 First look: ‘Dear Evan Hansen’ movie trailer brings musical new life New Yorkers must support Broadway right now Think the city looks a bit different these days? Well, get a load of the Meatpacking District.  Tony Award-winning designer David Rockwell has converted eight storefronts on West 13th and Gansevoort streets into vibrantly colored performance spaces for a summer theatrical event called “Seven Deadly Sins,” starting June 22. He’s hoping it brings vitality back to our newly quiet neighborhoods. “One of the things I recognized really early on in the pandemic, [while] looking out onto the street, is that, like the theater, New York without an audience is really just hardware,” Rockwell told The Post. “The life of New York comes from the people interacting on the street.” That spirit of gathering outside is what the new show is built on. Audiences will start the performance, directed and co-written by Tectonic Theater Project’s Moisés Kaufman, in Purgatory and...

A 77-year-old veteran who owns a Texas gun store refused to stand down even when one of four armed intruders pressed a gun into the back of his skull. What are the details? According to KDFW-TV, Mike Brown — owner of Mike's Gun Room in Richardson, Texas — was working on Thursday when four bold-as-brass masked and armed intruders entered his shop in the middle of the afternoon. Brown was in the store by himself when the men entered and attempted to rob him. The former Marine and Vietnam veteran told the station that the intruders forced him behind the counter and to the floor, where one of them put a gun to the back of his head. According to KTVT-TV, the intruders reportedly stole at least 50 weapons. It's not every day that a fish makes social media users cry.  But that is what happened when TikTok user Lacey Scott, from Kansas, shared a video of how she nursed a dying 10-year-old goldfish back to health.  Lacey named the fish Monstro after she took him home from a pet store where he had been turned in by his previous owner. He was so ill that he could no longer swim and had developed lesions on his belly from lying in the gravel on the floor of his tank. He had also turned a very dark blue.
