Matt Eberflus reinforced the obvious Wednesday afternoon before the Chicago Bears went back to work on the practice field at Halas Hall. The offense needs to achieve balance with play distribution if it’s going to have any chance to get rolling. “I don’t think that’s really a force issue,” the coach said. “That’s what we need to have. We need to have balance in your offense, in the run/pass calls, and we’ll get that.” The Bears attempted only 11 passes Sunday in a 27-10 loss to the Green Bay Packers, only the second time since the beginning of the Mike Ditka era in 1982 the team put the ball in the air less than 13 times. An offense that had a critical lack of explosive plays in 2021 has picked up where it left, and while the sample size is small, the start does not paint a picture of progress. Here’s where the Bears offense ranks after two games: Plays: 31st Yards: 32nd Yards per play: 29th Third down: 27th Scoring: T-26th Passing yards: 32nd Yards per passing attempt:...
ARIZONA STATE apparently wasted no time in firing head coach Herm Edwards. Let go following their 30-21 loss to Eastern Michigan on Saturday, a new video has surfaced that shows both Arizona's President and it's Athletic Director speaking to Edwards on the field immediately following the loss. 1Herm Edwards leaves the Arizona State Sun Devils with a 26-20 recordCredit: Getty Some have taken to social media to speculate that this could have been the moment the Sun Devils let Edwards go. Whether this is true or not is uncertain, but the optics aren't good as far as Arizona is concerned. The manner of Edwards' tenure being ended looks even worse if a recent report by The Athletic alleging sabotage from within his coaching staff is true. The report states that "an opposing coach recently told The Athletic that it wasn’t hard to get intel on this season’s team because some within Arizona State athletics wanted a coaching change." 10 thoughts after the Chicago Bears ran the ball hard — and ran it effectively — while essentially abandoning the passing game in a 27-10 loss to the Green Bay Packers Sunday night at Lambeau Field. 1. I would be surprised if offensive coordinator Luke Getsy doubles down on the call to run Justin Fields from the shotgun formation on fourth-and-goal from inside the 1-yard line. The Bears called quarterback power with right guard Lucas Patrick pulling on the play, and Fields was stopped short of the goalline with 8:07 remaining in the game and the Bears down two touchdowns. It’s a bad call because it didn’t work. And it’s a bad call because the ball was less than two feet from the goalline. Getsy doesn’t speak until Thursday, and we’ll get into that decision by him and what the Packers were expecting on the play in a little bit. On a wild Sunday in the NFL with some roller coaster comebacks, I don’t think the Bears were rallying for victory here even if referee Craig Wrolstad ruled it a...

Millions of diabetics could see life-changing results from an 'incredible' new drug, researchers suggested today. Tirzepatide works by mimicking hormones that help both control blood sugar and suppress appetite, helping people shed pounds.  It was already shown to be more effective than other similar medicines, including ones dished out on the NHS. But fresh data, set to be presented at a medical conference, will reveal that it also works up to 12 weeks quicker. Scientists involved in the analysis said the once-a-week jab was producing results 'beyond anything else we have available right now'.  Tirzepatide mimics hormones in the body which help people feel full and satisfied after a meal. These are often at low levels in obese patients, who tend to make up the majority of Type 2 diabetics. As well as helping people feel full, the drug helps bring diabetes under control by helping the body avoid sugar crashes, help removes excess sugar from the body and stops the liver from making and releasing too much sugar.   Uncontrolled diabetes can lead to blindness and leave patients needing their...
Putting together just one good inning is a pretty viable strategy for trying to beat Jacob deGrom. When a team can combine that inning with a classic case of the Mets giving deGrom no run support, the strategy becomes bulletproof. It worked perfectly for the Chicago Cubs on Tuesday, leading to a 4-1 win over the Mets (89-54) that also earned Chicago (60-82) a surprising series win. The Mets’ legendary pitcher notched 10 strikeouts in six innings, giving him his 56th career start with double-digit strikeouts. With four more, deGrom will pass David Cone for ninth place on the all-time list. The three runs deGrom allowed, crucially, were three more than his team scored for him. As such, the Mets fell victim to the familiar trope of failing to support the man who so consistently supports them. Ian Happ started things with a solo homer in the second, but the Cubs won this game in the fourth. Back-to-back singles, a sacrifice bunt in which Michael Hermosillo reached on an error when James McCann’s throw to first hit him in the...
Getty Austin Bryant excited on the field for Lions vs. Eagles in 2022. The Detroit Lions did not manage to grab a win in Week 1 of the 2022 season, and a big reason as many saw it was the team’s defense. The Lions allowed 38 points on the day in the loss and could not get off the field or get a stop when they needed in crunch time. That helped fuel the frustration some have with the team. Defensive end Austin Bryant, however, has a different approach. In spite of the fact that the team gave up plenty of yards and four touchdowns on the day, there was some building blocks. Bryant admitted when speaking to the media on Monday, August 12 that moral victories are hard to find, but insisted that his team was not beaten at the point of attack, and nearly made a run at the end, facts he takes heart in. Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian was spot on when he attempted to spin Saturday’s loss to Alabama into a win for the program.  For a game that is pretty definitively decided, there’s a lot of room for interpretation in football. A win is a win and a loss is a loss, but the nuance within that is sometimes greater than the sum of the parts it appears to be. Take Saturday’s loss by the Texas Longhorns and how it isn’t really a loss beyond the obvious. The 20-19 loss to Alabama fully counts as a whole loss against the program, but to take it at face value is missing the point. That’s something that Longhorns head coach Steve Sarkisian wants to be explicitly clear about. After the loss, Sark boldly told reporters that it wasn’t Alabama that defeated his team rather it was the clock that did them in. All the Longhorns needed was a little more time. Sark says he told his team “We didn’t lose today. We ran out of time.” — Stewart Mandel (@slmandel) September 10, 2022 ...
After Texas A&M lost to Appalachian State, former Aggies legend Johnny Manziel is talking about heading back to college to help save the team. Texas A&M clearly has a ways to go before they can truly contend for the national championships Jimbo Fisher is expected to bring to College Station. On Saturday, the Aggies suffered an upset loss to Appalachian State that made that much clear. With an offense that stops and stutters, could it be A&M simply needs a playmaking quarterback? Someone like Johnny Manziel? He’s one step ahead of that.Johnny Football jokes about coming back to Texas A&MI’ve got 2 years of eligibility left, right? — Johnny Manziel (@JManziel2) September 10, 2022 If there’s one thing that could give the Aggies a boost, it’s certainly a bit of Johnny Football playmaking on the field on offense. Sadly for Texas A&M fans everywhere, Manziel could have four years of eligibility left and he wouldn’t be able to return for the Aggies because his eligibility clock started so many years ago. But that’s the serious answer. And the serious...
IF you've tried to lose weight, you might have tried the old 'eat breakfast like a king, lunch like a prince, and dine like a pauper,' diet. The idea is you eat the bulk of your food earlier in the day, which some have linked with lower obesity rates and shedding excess pounds. 1Researchers found that the metabolism burns just as many calories in the evening as it does in the morning.Credit: Getty - Contributor But a new study has revealed that eating like this is no way to blast fat. Scottish researchers have discovered that what time you eat actually has no impact on weight loss. They found the metabolism burns just as many calories in the evening as it does in the morning. The only benefit of eating more food in the morning is that you are left less hungry later in the day, which could mean you snack less, researchers said. Revelations that the wife of a prominent California congressman died after taking a herbal remedy for diabetes and weight loss has spotlighted America’s dietary supplements industry and whether its products are beneficial — or even safe. Last month, it emerged that Lori McClintock, 61, the wife of Republican Tom McClintock, perished from dehydration and stomach swelling after eating white mulberry leaf, which is widely sold as ‘superfood’ teas and capsules. The tragedy lifted the lid on a multi-billion dollar industry selling everything from vitamins to botanicals and products for dieting, body-building and boosting sexual performance, aimed at people seeking to improve their health, looks and love lives. Celebrities have gotten in on the game, with promotions led by everyone from Khloé Kardashian to conspiracy theorist Alex Jones, and actress Gwyneth Paltrow — whose DTF capsules sell for $60-a-bottle as a fillip for ‘sexual arousal and desire’. But the adverse reaction of McClintock and tens of thousands of others each year raises fears about the poor oversight of an industry that often makes bold and unsupported claims about the effectiveness of...

As talk of the 2024 Republican Primary heats up, former presidential nominee Mitt Romney discussed the potential candidates from his party, including Wyoming Rep. Liz Cheney.  Romney spoke at the South Valley Chamber of Commerce in Sandy, Utah on Thursday and told the audience he believes Cheney would have no chance of winning the presidency. While Cheney has spoken recently about running, Romney asserted 'I don’t know if she really wants to do that. She would not become the nominee if she were to run. I can’t imagine that would occur.' 'I’m not going to encourage anyone to run for president. I’ve done that myself, and that’s something I’m not doing again,' said the Senator from Utah, who lost the presidential election in 2012 to Barack Obama. Cheney was handed a massive 37-point defeat in her Wyoming primary against Harriet Hageman, and indicated she may attempt a presidential run Mitt Romney, who represents Utah in the US Senate, discouraged Cheney from running and said 'she would not become the nominee if she were to run' Cheney earned only 28.9 percent...
A medicine doctors have known can cure hair loss for decades could be more effective that previously believed if the way its taken - via pill instead of via an ointment - is changed. Minoxidil — sold under the brand name Rogaine — has been on pharmacy shelves since the 1980s as a lotion to be rubbed into the scalp to restore lost hairs. But more and more doctors are now prescribing it off-label as a low dose pill reports the New York Times, saying this makes it much more effective. An innumerable number of hair loss prevention products are already available, which are regularly sold at significant prices despite little evidence that they work. But amid mounting success stories with Minoxidil more and more doctors are suggesting it for patients, despite the treatment being yet to be approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for use as a pill to prevent hair loss. Minoxidil - sold under the brand name Rogaine - can help reverse hair loss when it is taken orally as a pill, doctors say. But...

Longtime Democratic consultant and commentator James Carville said in an interview with The Hill that the main problem Republicans face is their stupid voters who “don’t believe in evolution” and support Donald Trump. Carville spoke with The Hill’s Niall Stanage about GOP primaries and the 2022 midterms in a series of clips released Wednesday after Republican and January 6 Committee member Rep. Liz Cheney lost in her Wyoming primary race. Carville offered up what he says is the problem with such votes for the GOP, and brought up Lester Maddox, a segregationist Democrat who was governor of Georgia in 1967 and was succeeded in office by former president Jimmy Carter. “The problem that the Republican Party has is … Lester Maddox, the former governor of Georgia, said famously, ‘The problem with the prisons in Georgia is the quality of inmate,'” Carville quoted. “The problem the Republican Party has is they got really stupid people that vote in their primaries. And when you have that, you’re going to get in – really stupid people demand to have really stupid leaders. And...
The scoring drought is over, but the Yankees are still looking for that “spark.” The Bombers scored a run for the first time in three games, but the Rays’ stable of pitchers held the Yankees’ struggling offense to just that and took a 3-1 win at the Stadium Tuesday night. The Yankees (72-45) have lost three straight, 11 of their last 13 and are 3-11 in the month of August. Since the All-Star break, the Bombers have gone 8-17. The Rays (62-53) handed the Yankees their fourth straight series loss — tying the total series losses they had in the first half — and cut the Yankees’ lead in the American League East to eight games in the loss column. It’s just the second time since June 15 that the Bombers’ lead in the division has been under 10 games. Nestor Cortes gave the Yankees seven solid innings. We’re facing a moment where our democracy really is under attack and under threat,” she adds, echoing some of the language she uses on the January 6th House select committee. “And those of us across the board, Republicans, Democrats and Independents who believe deeply in freedom and who care about the Constitution and the future of the country, I think have an obligation to to put that above party,” she added. “And and I think that fight is clearly going to continue,” she concluded. The Orioles were three outs away from being on the wrong side of baseball history, and by breaking up Tampa Bay Rays right-hander Drew Rasmussen’s perfect game bid in the ninth inning of a 4-1 loss, there still were few positives. How would you feel if someone told you to stop eating all the time? I imagine your response might be something unprintable in a family magazine. But what if they've got a point? Whether you want to hear it or not, research is showing that one of our biggest health issues is that we never stop eating. Not so long ago, we were advised it was healthier to 'graze' in order to prevent blood sugar peaks and troughs. Now everyone is talking about 'intermittent fasting' or 'time-restricted eating' (eating dinner early and breakfast late, with a 12-16 hour 'fast' in between).  New Scientist recently extolled a 'longevity diet' that recommends fasting and every health guru from the measured (Dr Rangan Chatterjee) to the more woo-woo (Gwyneth Paltrow) is doing it. So what's changed? It's all down to awareness around insulin levels, which leads us to the science bit… 'Constantly elevated insulin levels interfere with leptin, the hormone that provides a feedback mechanism to tell your brain that you're full,' explains Dr Andrew Jenkinson, bariatric surgeon and author of Why We...
The world faces a 'dangerous new age' in which regionally-aggressive powers such as Russia and China are pursuing 'might is right agendas', the UK's national security chief today warned. National Security Adviser Stephen Lovegrove urged caution amid a changed 'security order', with advances in tech making weapons more lethal and abundant. In a striking speech to the Center for Strategic and International Studies in Washington DC, Mr Lovegrove added that NATO's 'strategic stability is at risk'. During the Cold War, he said, the threat of a nuclear holocaust obligated continuous dialogue between the United States and the USSR. But now, Mr Lovegrove warned, the West faces 'a much broader range of strategic risks and pathways to escalation'. Mr Lovegrove said 'regionally-aggressive powers' Russia and China pose a new threat to the West because in the post-Cold War world order, continuous dialogue is no longer needed. British legend Lewis - who has been embroiled in a feud with AJ over recent years - vented frustration at his fellow Olympic gold medallist. He tweeted: "Gotta give it up to @usykaa on a great tactical performance tonight. "For @anthonyjoshua it’s not the end of the road, but u (sic) can’t be so tentative or wait till the 8th round to turn it on. "Learn from this and improve." The FDA has approved the first ever at-home drug for vitiligo in a breakthrough for treatment of the condition that affects millions of Americans. Opzelura, developed by Wilmington, Delaware-based pharmaceutical company Incyte, is a medical cream that can be directly applied to spots of discoloration on a person's skin. It was green-lighted by Food and Drug Administration officials on Monday to treat non-segmental vitiligo patients aged 12 and older - the first of such drug to receive this approval.  Many patients in clinical trials had their pigmentation return after around six months of twice-daily application of the cream - with the cream showing even stronger results after a full year of treatment. While vitiligo is not considered to be a particularly serious condition, the treatment is a breakthrough for a community that previously had little available help for their condition. Netflix is expected to report a loss of up to 2million subscribers with the release of its second quarter financial report this afternoon.  The staggering number was predicted in its last report issued in April, in which it was announced that the streaming giant had suffered a net loss of 200,00 subscribers since the start of 2022 - its first decline in a decade. The report is due on the heels of a subscription policy rollout in Latin America intended to test strategies for cracking down on password sharing, which Netflix has fingered as a primary cause for its plummeting numbers.  The streaming service will ask subscribers in five Latin American countries to pay an additional fee if they are consistently using the platform in a different household. Users in El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, the Dominican Republic, and Argentina will receive a notification on their account if it has been used for more than two weeks outside of their primary residence. They will be asked to fork over an additional $2.99 ($1.70 in Argentina) on top of their regular subscription...
SELECTIVE hearing is often seen as a nuisance and a sure-fire way to irritate your partner. But an expert has warned that actually, it could be a sign of a hearing problem, which could lead to more health issues. 1Selective hearing can be annoying - but it may be more serious than you thinkCredit: Getty Selective hearing is when a person only appears to perk up and listen when it involves or interests them. For example, they may zone out a conversation in a group of friends but suddenly be listening when food is mentioned. Or, you may bring up a conversation you had a few days ago, but that person can only remember small details from it that they chose to listen to.  It may be useful to pay close attention to your partner’s conversation patterns to make sure they aren’t spiralling into a serious hearing problem, however.  Read more on relationshipsTAKE CONTROL Men need training to meet my standards - I won't stand for catfish or cowardsDADDY DRAMA A paternity test said my husband isn't our baby's dad...
