SAN FRANCISCO — The Warriors switched up their starting lineup Friday night for the first time since Game 6 of the Western Conference semifinals. But swapping Kevon Looney for Otto Porter Jr. in Game 4 of the NBA Finals did not predicate a lesser role for Looney in their victory. Quite the opposite. This is the perfect matchup for Looney. Looney’s 26 minutes in Game 4 were the most he’s played yet in these Finals, and that number should stay high going forward. Golden State needs Looney playing as much as possible, especially when Boston’s shot-blocker extraordinaire Robert Williams is on the floor. Playing him just 16 minutes in their Game 3 loss was costly. “He’s irreplaceable for us,” said Kerr after their Game 3 loss. “He’s played in every game, and he’s a guy we count on. I didn’t play him enough in Game 3. That was my mistake.” The Warriors tend to lose when they’re out-rebounded, as they were by 16 in Game 3. In Looney’s 155 Finals minutes, the Warriors are collecting 58 percent of their rebounding...
Bol Bol’s 2021-22 season with the Orlando Magic ended before it started. Time will tell if the same is said about his tenure with the organization. Bol, who the Magic acquired ahead of the Feb. 10 trade deadline, was officially ruled out for the season in mid-March after right surgery on Jan. 18 while with the Denver Nuggets. The Nuggets traded Bol to the Bostons Celtics, in a three-team deal that included the San Antonio Spurs, one day after surgery. Denver originally tried trading Bol to the Detroit Pistons on Jan. 9, but the transaction was voided four days later over an issue with Bol’s physical. Bol, a 5-star recruit in the 2018 class, played nine games for Oregon his freshman year before missing the rest of the season with a stress fracture in his left foot that required surgery. He was expected to be a lottery pick in the 2019 draft before the injury, but he was taken 44th. The injury concerns didn’t faze the Magic, who were in the first full season of their rebuild and continue to...
KENNY SHIELS has apologised after claiming “women are more emotional than men” following Northern Ireland’s loss to England at Windsor Park. Shiels’ comments - made after his side fell to a 5-0 defeat- have been met with a backlash from influential figures in football. 2Kenny Shiels said he was sorry for the offence caused by his comments after Northern Ireland's game against EnglandCredit: Sportsfile Former England striker Ian Wright and Women in Football chief Yvonne Harrison are among those who criticised Shiels' remarks. The Northern Ireland manager, 65, said women’s teams conceding multiple goals “in a very short period time” is something that occurs “through the whole spectrum of the game”. Shiels also suggested women’s sides that do not take a goal going in “very well” because “women are more emotional than men”.    The former Derry City chief made the remarks after his side conceded four second-half goals in 19 minutes at home to England on Tuesday. Lou Williams nearly retired instead of joining the Hawks. Nell Redmond/AP Images Lou Williams scored 21 points in place of Trae Young to help the Hawks get a Game 4 win. After the game, Williams arrived at his postgame press conference with a bottle of red wine. Williams considered retiring when traded to the Hawks but now is two wins away from the Finals. Visit Insider's homepage for more stories. Lou Williams' heroic Game 4 of the Eastern Conference Finals almost didn't happen. When Williams was traded from the LA Clippers to the Atlanta Hawks in March, he contemplated retiring. Williams spent three and a half seasons with the Clippers, winning two Sixth Man of the Year awards. He and the Clippers were pursuing a championship for a second straight season when he was dealt. Williams ultimately decided to stick with the Hawks, who at that point were surging in the Eastern Conference standings after making Nate McMillan head coach. The move paid off. On Tuesday, Williams started in place for the injured Trae Young in Game...
Elfrid Payton starts for the Knicks but has largely been ineffective. Sarah Stier/Getty Images Knicks starting point guard Elfrid Payton played 8 poor minutes in a Game 1 loss to the Hawks. The Knicks had to lean heavily on Derrick Rose off the bench to replace Payton. Tom Thibodeau has started Payton all season but may need to bench him to win Game 2. Visit Insider's homepage for more stories. Tom Thibodeau's unusual point guard rotation got the New York Knicks in trouble early in Game 1 against the Atlanta Hawks. The Knicks started Elfrid Payton at point guard, as they did all season. However, Payton played just eight ineffective minutes, leading Thibodeau to quickly replace him in both halves and lean heavily on the 32-year-old Derrick Rose. Rose finished with 38 minutes — 12 more than his season's average. Additionally, none of the Knicks guards could contain Trae Young. The Hawks star finished with 32 points and scored or assisted on 19 of the Hawks' last 22 points, including the game-winning floater with .9 seconds left....

LeBron James. Getty/Douglas DeFelice Many thought LeBron James would ease through this season after a short offseason. Instead, James has played 36 of 37 games, averaging nearly 35 minutes per game. James could be looking for a fifth MVP and may use the second half of the season to make a point. Visit Insider's homepage for more stories. Most people in the NBA world would understand if LeBron James took it a little easy this season in an attempt to preserve himself for the playoffs. After all, James and the Los Angeles Lakers spent three months in the Disney bubble en route to the championship. They then had less than two months off before training camps began for a compressed, 72-game season. At 36 years old, with over 60,000 career minutes under his belt between the regular season and playoffs, there was a general expectation that James might play fewer games and minutes this season, all with the hope of being fresh for the playoffs. That hasn't been the case. James has played in 36 of the...
Tamir Rice shooting: Officers wont face federal charges Nancy Pelosi has narrow path to the speakership Fantasy Basketball impressions after the first week of NBA action By Nick Whalen, RotoWireSpecial to Yahoo Sports With nearly one full week of the 2020-21 NBA season in the books, it’s time to take a look around the league and re-evaluate some preseason conjectures. Of course, it’s important to remember that the season is, in fact, 72 games long, so it’s possible, if not very likely, that much of what we’ve seen over the last six days could change rather dramatically as the year wears on. Chances are, Nikola Jokic won’t average 14 assists per game, Myles Turner won’t block six shots per game and Stephen Curry won’t shoot 25 percent from three. But a small sample is all we have to work with, so let’s dive in and run through some of the key fantasy storylines through the first week of the season: The Nets took a weird loss to the Hornets on SundayThey sat both of their stars in Monday’s loss to Memphis. But despite...
