A memorabilia dealer and two other men have been criminally charged in Manhattan with possessing handwritten notes and lyrics for the Eagles' blockbuster 1976 album Hotel California that were allegedly stolen from singer Don Henley. Glenn Horowitz, Craig Inciardi and Edward Kosinski were charged Tuesday with trying to sell the materials, worth more than $1 million, and lying to auction houses, prospective buyers and cops about how they obtained them.  Prosecutors said an unnamed author working on a potential Eagles biography stole the materials from Henley in the late 1970s, and then sold them to Horowitz, a rare books and rock memorabilia dealer, in 2005. Horowitz then allegedly sold the materials to Inciardi and Kosinski, who in turn tried selling them at auction houses Christie's and Sotheby's or coercing Henley into buying them back. FRISCO, Colo. (CBS4) – Frisco has known it’s in the middle of a housing crisis, but until a recent housing report it did not know just how dire a crisis it was. The report from the town found around 20% of homes in town are licensed for short-term housing, where as 45% of homes in the town limits are considered vacant second homes. “We were obviously hoping it would be a little better than that,” Mayor of Frisco Hunter Mortensen said. “No one lives in on a permanent basis, and they are not parts of our community. That doesn’t make community in my opinion, not having lights on doesn’t make for a nice neighborhood and doesn’t make for a great community.” (credit: CBS) The troubles Frisco is seeing line up with the fight the rest of Summit County has been seeing for years. “Most of the information that we have shows, first, that we have about 60% housing stock is a second home, 30% or about 1/3 residents has a short-term license attached to it,” Summit County Commissioner Tamara Pogue...

A Mercy Flight air ambulance helicopter crashed in Upstate New York Tuesday afternoon, police say, killing two onboard. The crash occurred around 1 pm in the town of Elba, according to New York State Troopers who were called to the scene of the crash Tuesday, near Edgerton and Norton roads. 'At this point we don't know why the helicopter went down,' Major Eugene Staniszewski said at an afternoon news conference held near the site.  The flight reportedly took off from the Genesee County Airport in Batavia and was believed to be on a training mission, the trooper said, and reportedly hit power lines on its way down.  The power lines, Staniszewski said, are not believed have caused the crash. First responders were called to the scene of the crash Tuesday afternoon, near Edgerton and Norton roads, in the small town of Elba, located between Rochester and Buffalo Troopers and other first responders will likely stay at the scene overnight, as they investigate the cause of the crash, the major told attendees - a process he said could take over a month.  Officers are currently...
BORODYANKA, Ukraine—“I feel empty, like this photo,” Maria Litvin, a 26-year-old painter, told The Daily Beast as she held up a picture of two ruined buildings, one on each side of a pile of rubble that had been an apartment block less than six weeks ago. She was standing in what was left of her bedroom in an apartment in Borodyanka, a small town around 40 miles from Kyiv that the Russians have razed to hell. The floor was covered in broken glass and smashed furniture. Had Litvin been in the room when bombs rained down March 1, the glass could have ripped her to shreds. Instead, when they heard the jets flying overhead, she, her mother, and grandmother hid in their cramped shower and bathroom and were spared. But 27 people in their apartment complex were not so lucky and were killed in the blast. Many had been hiding in the basement of a building next door, which collapsed and buried them alive. Investigators believe there are still dozens of bodies underneath the rubble, and some may never...
PARADISE (CBS13) — A new emergency warning system is coming to the fire-ravaged Butte County town of Paradise thanks to a $2 million FEMA grant. The grant comes nearly four years after the Camp Fire nearly destroyed the town. The goal is to get construction started this summer. READ MORE: Citrus Heights City Leaders Consider Solutions To Drive-Through DilemmaThe mayor of Paradise said this is something the community really pushed for, so if disaster strikes again, they have something they can count on. “These are the wins as a town that we need to have,” Mayor Steve Crowder said. That win is keeping Paradise strong with a new system giving the community advanced notice of emergencies. “It’s a huge joy in Paradise to have that peace of mind for our citizens,” Mayor Crowder said. Twenty-one sirens will be scattered throughout the town. Each one will have a display board much like those Caltrans signs that can relay emergency information. “The idea is to cover the entire town limits—that’s why 21 of them,” Mayor Crowder said. “I’m pretty confident that we’ll...

Homes were among the structures that burned but officials did not have a count of how many were destroyed in the blaze that torched at least 6.4 square miles (16.6 square kilometers) of forest, brush and grass on the east side of the community of Ruidoso, said Laura Rabon, spokesperson for the Lincoln National Forest. No deaths or injuries were reported from the fire driven by winds gusting between 50 mph (80 kph) and 90 mph (155 kph), Rabon said. The cause of the fire was under investigation. By ADAM SCHRECK and ANDREA ROSA ANDRIIVKA, Ukraine (AP) — Ukraine gathered its dead and collected evidence of Russian atrocities on the ruined outskirts of Kyiv, as the two sides geared up Wednesday for what could become a climactic battle by Moscow’s forces to seize the country’s industrial east. As the U.S. and its Western allies moved to impose new sanctions against the Kremlin over what they branded war crimes, Russia completed the pullout of all of its estimated 24,000 or more troops from the Kyiv and Chernihiv areas in the north, and they have gone into Belarus or Russia to resupply and reorganize, a U.S. defense official speaking on condition of anonymity said. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Moscow is now marshaling reinforcements and trying to push deep into Ukraine in the east. “The fate of our land and of our people is being decided. We know what we are fighting for. And we will do everything to win,” he said. Ukrainian officials have stepped up calls for civilians near the front lines in the east to evacuate ahead...
MONGLA, Bangladesh (AP) — The 29-year-old Monira Khatun was devastated after her husband abandoned her suddenly. She returned to her father only to face another blow: He died soon after, leaving her to shoulder three other family members’ care. Without any work, she was worried about how she would feed them. “I lost everything. There was darkness all around,” Khatun said. “My parents’ home was gone to the river for erosion, we had no land to cultivate.” She ended up working at a factory in a special economic zone that employs thousands of climate refugees — like Khatun — in the southwestern town of Mongla, where Bangladesh’s second-largest seaport is located. These refugees from climate-impacted areas within Bangladesh lost their homes, land and livelihood, but found a new life in the riverside coastal town about 50 kilometers (30 miles) inland from the Bay of Bengal. Some 150,000 people now live in Mongla — many of whom moved from villages near the Sundarbans forest, the world’s largest mangrove forest which straddles the border of Bangladesh and India and harbors endangered...

Hats off to the filmmakers for having the guts to wade into this territory, creating one of the most original, refreshing and personal stories that Disney and Pixar have told in years. With e-commerce continuing to grow across the country due to the pandemic, it's no surprise that Amazon is building a new warehouse in Westchester County. Located in Mount Pleasant on Route 9A, the new 150,000-square-foot distribution center will include 136,000 feet of warehouse space and 14,000 square feet of office space, according to Mount Pleasant Town Supervisor Carl Fulgenzi.  Most importantly, the project will bring about 100 local jobs -- with pay starting around $18 an hour -- and about 1,000 area construction jobs, the supervisor said. In addition, the new center, will also include an underground parking garage for the slew of Amazon vehicles, and bring much-needed tax dollars to the town. According to Fulgenzi, who is also chairman of the Industrial Development Agency, the $99 million project is being constructed on a 10-acre property that once was home to the Green Valley Nursery, along the busy truck route of Route 9A.  "We have worked on numerous projects with the developer who has been very creative in the projects he brings before the town," Fulgenzi said. SEVERANCE, Colo. (CBS4) – The growing pains continue to be felt in northern Colorado towns as thousands of newcomers flock to communities between Fort Collins and Greeley. While some towns like Windsor and Timnath recently experienced power issues related to increased demand, now the Town of Severance is struggling to secure clean water taps for the hundreds of new-build buyers flocking to the town. (credit: CBS) As first reported by CBS Denver, a moratorium on new-build water taps in Severance has been issued after the water district the town contracted with was unable to build enough infrastructure to meet the demand. The North Weld County Water District, which also serves other towns like Eaton, Nunn, Ault, Pierce, Timnath and Windsor, attributed the moratorium to delays in building out their pipeline system. Severance Mayor Matthew Fries told CBS4’s Dillon Thomas the town owns the rights to enough water for continued growth. Mark Cuban made headlines this week for buying up “an entire town” an hour southeast of Dallas. But it turns out that Mustang, Texas, is scarcely more than a patch of land, best known for an abandoned strip club where a man was killed in 2008. According to locals, there aren’t any residents or operational businesses. “I've been a lifelong resident [of the area] and seen a lot come and go over there, but it's always been less than desirable,” said Jerry Newsom, who owns a graphics business just down the road. “They’ve had strip clubs and adult video stores and all kinds of stuff over there. So anything that Mark Cuban will bring in… would be better than what's been there.” In an email to The Daily Beast, Cuban confirmed that he bought the property but did not offer financial details. The town had been on the market since 2017, with an original asking price of $4 million that was later chopped in half.
