Getty Lakers guard Russell Westbrook dribbles the ball while being guarded by Suns wing Cameron Johnson The Los Angeles Lakers have been predicted to trade a superstar “at some point soon.” In a September 22nd piece called “Lakers Bold Predictions Ahead of 2022-23 NBA Season,” Bleacher Report’s Zach Buckley predicted that Russell Westbrook wouldn’t open the new year in Los Angeles. “It’s possible the Lakers honestly believe this can still work, but what is there to see? Westbrook isn’t a good fit for the roster. His ball dominance doesn’t work alongside LeBron James, and his erratic shooting hurts everyone around him,” Buckley wrote. “It seems more likely L.A. is leaving no stone unturned in its attempt to shed the nine-time All-Star (and his $47.1 million salary, per Spotrac) without sacrificing both of the future first-round picks it’s allowed to trade. At some point soon, the Lakers will concede that just isn’t possible and will package those picks with Westbrook to get him out and bring in a contributor or two who actually fit this group.” According to a September 7th report...
Getty Darvin Ham & Rob Pelinka of the Los Angeles Lakers. The Patrick Beverley experience has gotten off to a quick start for the Los Angeles Lakers. The polarizing guard has always had a penchant for making some wild comments and that has yet to change. It’s no secret that the Lakers were a disaster last year and didn’t even sniff the playoffs despite having a roster littered with future Hall of Famers. Beverley was with the Minnesota Timberwolves last season and made the playoffs. His team was eliminated in the first round but that wasn’t enough to kill the guard’s confidence. He recently stated that LeBron James and Anthony Davis “get” to play with him because he actually made the playoffs last season. In his mind, being the fourth or fifth best player on a team that gets knocked out in Round 1 in the playoffs is better than being two years removed from winning a championship. Fox Sports analyst Nick Wright is not a fan of Beverley and was stunned by his comments. “He says, ‘anywhere...
Getty Lakers point guard Russell Westbrook The Los Angeles Lakers have been predicted to trade Russell Westbrook for a $22 million All-Star and $19 million small forward. In a September 15th piece called “Lakers’ Best and Worst-Case Scenarios In ‘Ongoing’ Trade Talks with Utah Jazz,” Bleacher Report’s Andy Bailey wrote that the likeliest scenario to happen is for the Lakers and Jazz to strike a deal involving Westbrook, Mike Conley, Bojan Bogdanovic and draft picks. “There is plenty of motivation for both Utah and L.A. to find a suitable trade,” Bailey wrote. “The Jazz should want to lose. A lot. But that isn’t all that the first season of a rebuild should accomplish. On-court development and reps for the new young (or young-ish) core of players that includes Collin Sexton, Lauri Markkanen, Ochai Agbaji, Walker Kessler and more should be a priority. Having Conley, Bogdanovic, (Jordan) Clarkson and (Rudy) Gay on the roster doesn’t necessarily make that impossible, but it at least makes it trickier. Moving some combination of them for picks and buying out the last year of...
Getty New York Jets head coach Robert Saleh dapping it up with wide receiver Denzel Mims during an NFL game. Wide receiver Denzel Mims officially requested a trade this offseason. The New York Jets have been and are still willing to acquiesce to those demands if they can get back the proper price. Getty New York Jets head coach Robert Saleh making a call during an NFL game. Throughout the offseason, the future of New York Jets wide receiver Denzel Mims has been widely discussed. On the Flight Deck Podcast, Cimini projected veteran wide receiver Corey Davis to have a bounce-back campaign this year but that wasn’t his official prediction: “I think he’s going to have a bounce-back year but my prediction for him: when we get into late October I think his name will be circulating in some...
Getty The Seahawks could be a potential trade destination for WR Denzel Mims. The Seattle Seahawks could be in the market for an athletic young receiver. As noted by Bleacher Report’s Kristopher Knox, the Seahawks could be a potential landing spot for New York Jets wide receiver Denzel Mims. Seattle is one of two teams — the other being the Minnesota Vikings — who are considered a “best” fit for the 24-year-old receiver. Mims requested a trade from the Jets just prior to the end of the preseason. Knox explains that the Seahawks could take a “flier” on the disgruntled receiver. “The Minnesota Vikings and the Seahawks seem to be the two most logical landing spots for Mims,” says Knox. “Seattle, as we’ve already mentioned, could be keen to take a flier on a developmental player who hasn’t panned out elsewhere,” Knox continued.Mims is Buried on Jets’ Depth ChartMims is a former second-round draft selection who just hasn’t “panned out,” as Knox mentions. Getty Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones looks on before an NFL game. The Dallas Cowboys are just days away from their season-opener, but the team is still being linked to a trade for a Chicago Bears weapon. Dallas is facing off against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for the second-straight season, and the primary focus on the organization has to be getting revenge for the 31-29 loss to start the 2021 season. But Jerry Jones and the front office have a duty to improve the team whenever they can, and Bleacher Report analyst Kristopher Knox is predicting Dallas to be a potential suitor for Bears defensive end Robert Quinn. “Four squads—Carolina, Cleveland, Dallas and Las Vegas—have more than $10 million in cap room available. Dallas and Las Vegas are the two that make the most sense for Quinn,” Knox writes. “Dallas could bring back Quinn, who played there in 2019, as a complement to DeMarcus Lawrence and Micah Parsons.” Quinn has been linked to the Cowboys all offseason thanks to a public desire to leave Chicago and Dallas losing...
Getty The Buccaneers could turn to Jared Goff if Tom Brady retires. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers could soon land a two-time Pro Bowl quarterback. As Tom Brady potentially enters his last season, the Buccaneers will likely have to make a move for a veteran quarterback in 2023. According to Dallas Robinson of Pro Football Network, the Buccaneers could land Detroit Lions quarterback Jared Goff. The former No. 1 overall pick technically isn’t a free agent until the 2025 season. However, the Lions could move on from Goff this offseason with just a $10 million dead cap hit. Robinson argues that the Buccaneers likely won’t land an early first-round pick in next year’s draft, leading Tampa Bay to seek a veteran option such as Goff. “Unless Brady gets hurt, the Bucs won’t have the chance to land an early first-round quarterback, so they’d likely be searching for a veteran option,” says Robinson. “Goff is no one’s idea of a superstar, but he’s had NFL success and has the size and arm to fit in Tampa’s system.”Why Goff is Appealing...
Getty The pressure is on Seahawks general manager John Schneider (left) and head coach Pete Carroll. All signs point to the Seattle Seahawks sticking with Geno Smith and Drew Lock at quarterback for 2022. Unless either signal-caller is able to surprise this season, it likely means the franchise will be looking for another quarterback in 2023. Pro Football Network’s Dallas Robinson makes an interesting prediction that the Seahawks could look to make a trade next offseason for Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa. Robinson offered projections for every team’s starting quarterback in 2023 and has Seattle pulling off a deal with Miami. Part of the challenge the Seahawks could face is winning enough games to knock themselves out of the running for drafting one of the top quarterback prospects. This trade proposal assumes that the Dolphins will also be looking for a quarterback upgrade next offseason under new head coach Mike McDaniel. “Let’s complete the triangle: Garoppolo to the Raiders and Carr to the Dolphins leaves Tagovailoa in need of a new home,” Robinson wrote on September...
Getty Josh McDaniels shaking hands with Doug Pederson. Heading into the offseason, the offensive line was the biggest need for the Las Vegas Raiders. New head coach Josh McDaniels and general manager Dave Ziegler did very little to address the group and four or five offensive linemen from last year’s squad could be starters in Week 1. The most concerning spot on the offensive line is right tackle. 2021 first-round pick Alex Leatherwood flopped in training camp and was waived by the team. Veteran Jermaine Eluemunor is expected to start at right tackle at the beginning of the year with rookie seventh-round pick Thayer Munford hot on his heels. However, neither are sure things at right tackle. If things are ugly to start the season, the Raiders will need to reevaluate their options. That could end up with them looking to the trade market. Brent Sobleski of Bleacher Report is predicting the Raiders to trade a third-round pick to the Jacksonville Jaguars for their right tackle Jawaan Taylor: The Jaguars might prefer not to part with a 49-game...
Getty Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones and head coach Mike McCarthy speak at a press conference. The Dallas Cowboys are being predicted to say goodbye to a major piece of the offense in a trade with the Carolina Panthers. Throughout the offseason, there were questions at the tight end position due to a few factors: veteran tight end Blake Jarwin was released, Dalton Schultz’s rookie contract had ran its course and he was in need of a new deal, and the Cowboys added Jake Ferguson in the fourth round of the 2022 NFL draft. Schultz never got a long-term deal, with Dallas instead franchise tagging him on a $10.93 million deal, according to Spotrac. Now, Bleacher Report’s Brent Sobleski is predicting Dallas to deal him. “[The Cowboys] already paying top dollar at four different offensive positions (quarterback, running back, right guard and left tackle). Can they realistically afford to give Schultz a major deal as well?” Sobleski wrote. “If Dallas is comfortable with the two rookie tight ends[Jake Ferguson and Peyton Hendershot]—while elevating veteran Sean McKeon to the...
Getty Kevin Durant of the Brooklyn Nets, who was linked to the Boston Celtics. When Kevin Durant first requested to be traded from the Brooklyn Nets this summer the Phoenix Suns were the team at the forefront of the Durant discussions. Phoenix was one of the top teams Durant was interested in joining following a trade. The Suns also had the opportunity to put together a package for Durant that other teams couldn’t with former number one overall pick Deandre Ayton.  However, the Suns were unable to complete a deal. The Indiana Pacers signed Ayton to a historic offer sheet which the Suns matched, making Ayton untradeable until at least January 15th. After Ayton was signed, the Suns were essentially ruled out of the running for Durant, and now Durant has rescinded his trade demand with the Nets and is expected to stay in Brooklyn long-term.  While all signs suggested Durant was open to staying with the Nets long-term, one NBA GM recently spoke out about the situation with the Nets All-Star and predicted he may only be...
Gett Carmelo Anthony and Anthony Davis watch from the bench during a bout between the LA Lakers and the Denver Nuggets. The New York Knicks are still in the process of filling out their roster, and even if they don’t land Donovan Mitchell, nobody will say steps weren’t made to become better. Missing out on Mitchell would be a big blow, but there are still other moves that can be made to help the Knicks make the playoffs again, and that includes a reunion with Carmelo Anthony. The 10-time All-Star is coming off a solid season with the Los Angeles Lakers, and while he’s not the superstar he was when he played in New York before, he’s more than capable of providing some good scoring off the bench. ESPN’s Bobby Marks predicted a landing spot for Anthony this offseason, and he believes the Knicks are the team that make the most sense for him.Reunion Incoming? Mike Stobe/Getty Images Mekhi Becton #77 of the New York Jets at Atlantic Health Jets Training Center on August 23, 2020. Conventional wisdom says that the Pittsburgh Steelers need to upgrade their talent at both offensive tackle spots. That helps explain Bleacher Report’s prediction that New York Jets offensive tackle Mekhi Becton will soon have a new NFL home, with Alex Kay calling Becton an “ideal buy-low candidate to improve Pittsburgh’s offensive line.” Follow the Heavy on Steelers page for the latest breaking news, rumors and content!Mekhi Becton Was a First-Round Pick in 2020Becton — who is listed at 6-foot-7 and 363 pounds — was selected No. 11 overall out of Louisville in the 2020 NFL Draft. Getty Darvin Ham with Rob Pelinka. The Los Angeles Lakers may have a chance to land four-time All-Star Kemba Walker with a growing buzz that the point guard will reach a buyout after being traded to the Detroit Pistons. ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reported that Walker and the Pistons are expected to reach a buyout after the veteran was a part of a three-team trade with the Hornets and Knicks. “Kemba Walker and the Pistons are expected to discuss a contract buyout that will allow him to become a free agent, sources tell ESPN,” Wojnarowski tweeted on June 23, 2022. “Walker landed with Detroit as part of three-way trade with Charlotte and New York.” Bleacher Report’s Greg Swartz linked the Lakers to Walker during his “bold predictions” for free agency. Swartz views the Lakers appealing situation as enough to win over Walker despite Los Angeles lacking cap space. “While teams like the Washington Wizards, Brooklyn Nets (depending on Kyrie Irving’s future), Cleveland Cavaliers and Los Angeles Clippers could all use another ball-handler off the bench, Walker will...
Getty Tyler Herro of the Miami Heat, who was linked to the Chicago Bulls in a recent trade proposal. The Chicago Bulls will have some important decisions to make this summer, and that all starts with what to do with Zach LaVine. Obviously, the ideal scenario for Chicago would be to re-sign the star guard, but that’s not completely up to them. LaVine is an unrestricted free agent for the first time in his career and will have free rein over where he chooses to sign. Most people believe he will re-join the Bulls on a max contract, but there are some that believe he could choose to leave. Zach Buckley of Bleacher Report recently wrote an article discussing his five biggest predictions for the offseason. He predicted that LaVine will leave the Bulls in favor of the Miami Heat, but in return, the Bulls would get a 22-year-old star. “This is exactly the kind of opening on which Heat president Pat Riley often pounces. His team also happens to need a half-court shot-creator in the worst kind...
Getty The pressure is on Seahawks general manager John Schneider (left) and head coach Pete Carroll. NFL executives expect both Baker Mayfield and Jimmy Garoppolo will be released prior to the start of the season, potentially giving the Seattle Seahawks their pick of multiple starting quarterbacks. Heavy already explored the idea of adding Garoppolo, but the buzz around the NFL is that Mayfield would sign with the Seahawks upon his release. ESPN’s Dan Graziano reported that a straw poll of NFL executives labeled the Seahawks as the favorites to land Mayfield, while Garoppolo is expected to join the Panthers if both players are ultimately cut. “The majority of the people to whom I spoke for this story believe both players will likely end up being released,” Graziano wrote on June 10. “A couple of people thought Garoppolo might still draw trade interest, provided an acquiring team could work out something to knock down the salary or spread it out over a couple of years. “The most popular destination for Garoppolo among those to whom I spoke was...
Getty The Seahawks and Russell Wilson offered a different version of the trade. The asking price for former Seattle Seahawks franchise quarterback Russell Wilson’s new contract could approach $50 million per year. Denver 9 News’ Mike Klis predicted that Wilson’s “asking price” for his new deal with the Broncos will be in the five-year, $250 million range. “The first order of business for the new owner will be to sign Russell Wilson to a contract extension,” Klis detailed on June 1, 2022. “Five years and $250 million will be his asking price.” The Broncos are up for sale and the new ownership group will likely be tasked with signing Wilson to a contract extension. Klis later clarified that these numbers are merely a prediction for Wilson’s presumed market and not the quarterback’s precise target. “I clarified I misspoke in follow-up tweet. It’s my presumption of what market is for him,” Klis tweeted on June 4. “There are no contract talks. No one has asked for anything at this time.” ALL the latest Seahawks news straight to...
Getty Lakers stars LeBron James, Anthony Davis and Russell Westbrook In a May 27 column, Grant Hughes of Bleacher Report predicted that the Los Angeles Lakers would lose their best player this summer. Hughes, who covers the NBA for Bleacher Report, forecasts that LeBron James will request a trade from the Lakers this offseason. “The Los Angeles Lakers have no promising young players likely to ascend, no depth, virtually no first-round picks to trade, no reason to believe Russell Westbrook will be better in his 15th season than he was in his 14th and no legitimate chance to contend—now or in the near future,” Hughes wrote. “Don’t you, LeBron James, think long and hard about engineering an exit?” James has never requested a trade during his Hall of Fame career. He can sign a two-year extension with the Lakers this offseason. However, he may choose not to.James Is Considering Playing out His ContractAccording to Sam Amick of The Athletic, James is considering playing out his present contract. Getty Robert Quinn of the Chicago Bears has been the subject of trade rumors for months now. Chicago Bears pass rusher Robert Quinn has been the subject of trade rumors for months now, and while general manager Ryan Poles has said the team isn’t seeking a trade, he also said he wouldn’t “rule anything out.” The veteran pass rusher’s trade value may be at its peak after he finished second in the NFL with 18.5 sacks last season in an impressive campaign that also saw him amass 25 hurries, four QB hits and a whopping 47 total pressures, per PFF. But what if the Bears can’t find a trade partner for Quinn? Is there a chance they’ll release him instead of paying him top dollar? Quinn, 32, is entering the third year of the five-year, $70 million deal he signed with Chicago in 2020. He’s due $12.8 million this coming season, and the Bears would be left with $12.7 million in dead cap money if they cut him before June 1 and $4.2 million in dead cap if...
Getty Bulls vs. Bucks The Chicago Bulls made the playoffs this season for the first time since 2017. They won 46 games and were the sixth seed in the Eastern Conference. The Bulls faced the Milwaukee Bucks in the first round of the 2022 playoffs and lost in five games. Chicago was led in scoring by DeMar DeRozan, who averaged 20.8 points. Nikola Vucevic was the Bulls’ second-leading scorer in the Bucks series. The All-Star big man averaged 19.4 points and 12.4 rebounds. Despite Vucevic averaging a double-double, though, some Bulls fans don’t know if the former Orlando Magic star is “a championship-caliber center” in today’s NBA since he’s not a high-level defender. In his recent mailbag for NBC Sports Chicago, Bulls insider K.C. Johnson was asked if Chicago should trade Vucevic this summer and the veteran reporter predicted that the 31-year-old would be back with the Bulls next season. “I found it telling how strongly (Arturas) Karnisovas supported Vucevic in his end-of-season session with reporters,” Johnson wrote. “Now, Karnisovas did avoid a question on Vucevic’s status as...
Getty Deion Jones of the Atlanta Falcons is introduced prior to an NFL game. The Dallas Cowboys have added players to all parts of their roster in the 2022 offseason, but there are still places the team can improve. In terms of the defense, the area that sticks out the most is at linebacker. Heavy has already touched on a free agency option for the Cowboys’ linebacker room, but Bleacher Report analyst Alex Ballentine thinks the Cowboys could trade for a new LB instead. Right now, Dallas is rolling into the season with Micah Parsons, Leighton Vander Esch and Jabril Cox as their primary linebackers. Parsons will be shifting around the defense, Vander Esch has struggled in recent seasons, and Cox is entering his second NFL season after just seven appearances in 2020. This is why Ballentine thinks Dallas could trade for Atlanta Falcons linebacker Deion Jones. The 27-year-old knows Cowboys defensive coordinator Dan Quinn well, and a reunion could reignite Jones’ career. “In 2017, Jones posted a PFF grade of 87.3 and was voted to the Pro...
Photo by Andy Lyons/Getty Images Cleveland Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield Speculation as to whether Cleveland Browns QB Baker Mayfield will be traded during the 2022 NFL Draft has varied in recent days but one analyst says that if he is, Mayfield will prove the steal of the weekend. Former professional quarterback and current ESPN analyst Dan Orlovsky appeared on the Tuesday, April 26 edition of “Get Up,” during which he said he believes the Mayfield saga will come to an end this weekend on either Day 2 or Day 3 of the draft via a trade. Though it wasn’t the splash move fans have been waiting for, such a deal could be fast-approaching on the horizon. David Kenyon of Bleacher Report suggested that a trade between the Packers and the Seattle Seahawks for Pro-Bowl wide receiver DK Metcalf is one of the “most plausible” deals that could go down on NFL Draft Day later this month. He laid out his case in a piece published Thursday, April 14. On paper, it’s a perfect match. After sending Davante Adams to the Las Vegas Raiders, the Green Bay Packers lack a No. 1 receiver. They acquired a first- and second-round pick in that trade, creating the possibility of using any of...
Getty Lakers guard Russell Westbrook The Los Angeles Lakers are widely projected to part ways with Russell Westbrook this summer and Bleacher Report’s Zach Buckley has an idea of who the purple and gold should replace the nine-time All-Star with. Buckley thinks the Lakers, who missed the play-in tournament this season, will trade for New York Knicks point guard Kemba Walker. “Walker’s season was rough—though, to be fair, so was the Knicks’ as a whole—but that shouldn’t tank his value as either a trade target or perhaps a buyout candidate,” Buckley wrote. “Teams hurting for offense will notice he still tallied 16.4 points and 5.0 assists per 36 minutes while hitting 36.7 percent of his threes and 84.5 percent of his free throws, per Basketball Reference. Prediction: Walker is traded to the Los Angeles Lakers.” According to ESPN’s trade machine, the Lakers and Knicks could complete a trade involving Walker, Julius Randle, Alec Burks and Westbrook.Lakers Could Send Westbrook to Knicks for Walker, Randle & BurksThe Lakers could trade Westbrook, the 2016-17 MVP, to the Knicks for Walker, Randle and...

The New York Knicks are expected to move on from point guard Kemba Walker in the offseason after sending him home for the year shortly after the All-Star break. While he might not be capable of leading a team as the first or even second option anymore, Walker can still provide a lot to a team as either the sixth man or just a big scoring threat of the bench. His tumultuous year with the Knicks did prove he can still score, but that wasn’t enough for him to remain the starting point guard with the Knicks. In another situation he might be able to thrive like he did back in Charlotte. Getty Jayson Tatum, Boston Celtics Heading into this season, everybody expected the Boston Celtics to be positioning themselves for a run at a star free agent in the summer. Brad Stevens, who had just moved into his new role as President of Basketball Operations, continually preached the importance of financial flexibility and was making roster moves to align with that concept. Yet, shortly before the season started, Stevens extended Marcus Smart and Robert Williams, all but killing the Celtics’ path to a max contract slot in the off-season. Sure, the Celtics could still make a deal to acquire a star, but it would be via trade, or sign-and-trade rather than a straight contract offer to an unattached player. Now, just days before the start of the post-season, it looks like Stevens made the right call. Marcus Smart is having a career year as Boston’s lead guard, and Robert Williams is an undoubted addition to an NBA All-Defense team this year. (Photo by Emilee Chinn/Getty Images) The NFL Draft has the reputation as arguably the biggest night of the year for blockbuster trades. In 2022, the Cleveland Browns are expected to be deep in that mix. Quarterback Baker Mayfield has been one of the most talked about trade candidates in the NFL since the Browns inked former Houston Texans signal caller Deshaun Watson to the largest guaranteed contract in league history last month. What makes Mayfield’s case even more interesting, however, is the lack of leverage Cleveland is perceived to possess in any upcoming trade negotiations. Part of that is on the team, due to its spurning of Mayfield in its immediate signings of Watson and backup Jacoby Brissett before testing the market for its four-year starter. A portion of the blame also falls on Mayfield for playing hurt all season and nuking his value after posting career-low...

Thearon Henderson/Getty Images Head coach Mike Tomlin of the Pittsburgh Steelers looks on from the sidelines against the San Francisco 49ers on September 22, 2019. Former Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker Ryan Shazier is going to be pleased if a predicted trade between the Steelers and San Francisco 49ers takes place, as 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo is his stated preference to be Pittsburgh’s starting QB in 2022. The latest Steelers news straight to your inbox! Join the Heavy on Steelers newsletter here!Prediction: Jimmy Garoppolo to Pittsburgh for 2 Draft PicksIn an article published on February 21, The Athletic’s Bay Area Editor-in-Chief Tim Kawakami predicts that the 49ers “will trade Garoppolo to Pittsburgh for a fourth-round pick this year and a conditional fourth-round pick next year that could slide up to a second-rounder,” with the round two compensation triggered if Pittsburgh makes the playoffs and Garoppolo plays 75% of the snaps in 2022. That’s a curiously specific prediction. It’s also less compensation than some might expect, but “at 30, with his injury history and given his occasionally hard-to-define worth, I...
Getty A collection of New York Jets fans reacting to the latest selection in the NFL Draft. Ralph Vacchiano of SNY shared back on January 19 that the New York Jets are “open to trading down” from the No. 10 overall pick. Gang Green originally acquired that selection via the Jamal Adams trade with the Seattle Seahawks. That strategy would help provide the Jets with more lottery tickets for this draft class and future classes pending the right offer. Speaking of, a very intriguing trade was predicted to go down this week that could change the course of history. ALL the latest Jets news straight to your inbox! Getty Derek Carr with Marcus Mariota. There could be some big quarterback dominoes to fall this offseason. Not only did future Hall of Famers Tom Brady and Ben Roethlisberger retire but big-name quarterbacks Aaron Rodgers, Russell Wilson and Deshaun Watson could get traded. The Las Vegas Raiders could consider taking advantage of a seller’s market and consider trading Derek Carr. He’s coming off a strong season and new head coach Josh McDaniels has had nothing but good things to say about him since taking the job. Odds are that the Raiders stick with Carr for next season. However, there are those who still believe the quarterback could be on the move. Michelle Burton of Bleacher Report is now predicting that Carr will get traded to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers this offseason in one of the “boldest” roster moves: Carr played all 17 games in 2021, throwing for 4,804 yards and 23 touchdowns against 14 picks. The Bucs currently own draft pick Nos. 60 and 91 overall, which could be packaged in a trade (however many firsts Wilson and...
Getty Images Liberty Flames quarterback Malik Willis. If the Pittsburgh Steelers see Liberty’s Malik Willis as the team’s next starting quarterback, the organization isn’t doing a very good job of masking its interest. On Tuesday February 8, two NFL analysts—one from Pro Football Focus (PFF) and one from NFL.com—predicted that the Steelers are going to trade up in the 2022 Draft to select Willis, who is listed at 6-foot-1 and 215 pounds and has drawn comparisons to former Steelers quarterback Kordell Stewart. “It’s no secret” that Pittsburgh really likes Willis, writes Anthony Treash of PFF, noting that “after Willis produced the highest (PFF) grade among quarterbacks at the 2022 Senior Bowl practices, his stock is firmly on the rise.” On Episode 289 of PFF’s Tailgate podcast (Full 2022 Senior Bowl Recap), the co-hosts discuss how “(Willis’) arm stood out…. Any throw he was making was a tick noticeably faster than guys with strong arms,” referring to the five other quarterbacks who attended the Senior Bowl. “Willis wins when playing schoolyard ball,” notes PFF’s 2022 Draft Guide, adding...
Getty Boston Celtics guard Marcus Smart. Despite serving as Boston’s default lead-guard for most of the season, Marcus Smart sparingly looked the part. That is, until his recent string of performances. The former No. 6 overall pick is playing arguably the best basketball of his career, averaging 11.8 points, 6.7 rebounds and 6.7 assists over his last six games. During that span, Smart’s knocked down nearly 50% of his shots from the floor and has been a big reason for the C’s mini-surge in the win column. Once viewed as a glaring weak spot in the Celtics’ starting five, Smart has looked nearly untradable of late. Or maybe, according to Bleacher Report’s Grant Hughes, he’s simply upping his stock ahead of the rapidly approaching February 10 trade deadline. “With their fortunes turning and parity in the East making a move up the standings look relatively easy, now might not seem like the time for the Celtics to cut ties with one of their most important players,” wrote Hughes. “Screw it. Marcus Smart is getting traded anyway.”Smart on the...
Getty Las Vegas Raiders HC Josh McDaniels No matter what Josh McDaniels says about Derek Carr, there’s going to be speculation about who the 2022 Las Vegas Raiders quarterback will be until he signs an extension. Signs are pointing in the direction that the team will stay put but anything is possible. There could be a number of big-name quarterbacks on the market this offseason, which will make things more interesting. San Francisco 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo will almost certainly be on the move. Despite leading the team to a deep playoff run this season, the 49ers drafted his replacement in Trey Lance last year. It’s best for both sides to move on. McDaniels coached Garoppolo when he was a New England Patriot so there’s a lot of familiarity between the two. Michelle Burton of Bleacher Report is predicting that the Raiders could make a bold trade and cut a deal for the 49ers quarterback: Despite (most likely) ending his career in San Francisco on a low note, Garoppolo is far from damaged goods. While saying he “took”...
Getty Russell Westbrook with Los Angeles Lakers teammates. It’s not time to panic for the Los Angeles Lakers yet but it is time to be concerned. The team is 9-9 and doesn’t currently hold a playoff spot in the Western Conference if the season ended today. It’s been a rough start to the season and the team has yet to find its footing consistently. A big reason for the struggles has been Russell Westbrook. The former MVP hasn’t been a seamless fit on the Lakers and there have been many growing pains. When the team first traded for him, many questioned the fit. Critics of the trade appear to be vindicated right now as Westbrook is playing some of his worst basketball. Even though it’s early in his tenure with the team, many fans would already like to see him get traded again. However, that’s not going to happen due to his massive contract. Eric Pincus of Bleacher Report is predicting the Lakers to be among the most active teams at the trade deadline but detailed why a...
Getty Montrezl Harrell defending Kelly Olynk. One of the more interesting moves the Los Angeles Lakers made last offseason was the signing of Montrezl Harrell. It was an odd signing considering the team won with their superior size last season. Signing a 6-foot-7 center went against that idea. However, Harrell was the reigning Sixth Man of the Year and it’s never a bad idea to add more talent. In hindsight, the move looks like a mistake. Harrell had some really good moments during the regular season but disappeared from the rotation in the playoffs. The big man is in a tough spot heading into the offseason. He’s got a player option on his contract and could choose to opt-out. Doing so would lead to him walking away from $9.7 million in hopes he’d get the same or better on the open market. Though he had a down year with the Lakers, it’s not an easy decision as there’s no guarantee a team is going to pay him what his current team is. Grant Hughes of Bleacher Report predicts...
Getty Cowboys owner Jerry Jones The worlds of Jerry Jones and Bill Belichick are on a potential April 29 collision course as multiple media outlets have now forecasted a trade between the Dallas Cowboys and New England Patriots during the first round of next week’s 2021 NFL Draft. The widely-held projection: Dallas slides from No. 10 to No. 15 overall, accumulating significant capital and allowing New England to nab its quarterback of the future — be it Trey Lance, Justin Fields, or Mac Jones. CBS Sports’ Chris Trapasso believes the Patriots’ next QB will be Jones, and that Belichick will surrender a “third-round pick, a fifth-round pick, and a future sixth-rounder to swing this deal.” Meanwhile, the 4D-chess-wielding Cowboys are able to secure its top cornerback of choice, Alabama’s Patrick Surtain II. “The Cowboys still get their cornerback after trading down. Ideal scenario for them,” Trapasso wrote. The latest Dallas Cowboys news straight to your inbox! Join the Heavy on Cowboys newsletter here! Sign up for the Heavy on Cowboys Newsletter! Wait! Getty QB Gardner Minshew II Could a little Minshew Mania be in store for the Chicago Bears? While there has been seemingly endless talk about the Bears moving up in the draft to select a quarterback next week, some think they might acquire a young signal-caller without drafting one. According to a recent article by Alex Kay of Bleacher Report, the Bears could very easily nab Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Gardner Minshew, who is both young and an experienced NFL starter. Kay thinks Minshew would be a “boon” for the Bears, and unlike other quarterbacks in the draft, they wouldn’t have to trade the farm to get him. The latest Bears news straight to your inbox! Getty The Lakers are a top potential landing spot for Andre Drummond. Rumors linking the Los Angeles Lakers to Cleveland Cavaliers center Andre Drummond are gaining steam. ESPN’s Brian Windhorst noted on The Hoop Collective podcast that there is a growing belief around the NBA that Drummond will sign with the Lakers if he receives a buyout from the Cavs. “The league believes, and I know that’s a vague statement, but I’m saying it that way to avoid trapping myself,” Windhorst explained, per Real GM. “The league believes, numerous teams I’ve talked to believe that Andre Drummond is heading for the Lakers if slash when he gets bought out.” It is important to remember that Drummond’s $28.7 salary makes a trade to the Lakers improbable. Los Angeles needs Cleveland to avoid dealing the center by the March 25th trade deadline in order to have a real chance at landing Drummond. Getty Cowboys owner/GM Jerry Jones. There exists a scenario where the Dallas Cowboys pull off a massive trade on Day 1 of April’s NFL draft, and it doesn’t involve quarterback Dak Prescott. Bleacher Report’s Maurice Moton recently laid it out: the Cowboys send their first-round pick (No. 10 overall), a 2021 fourth-rounder (No. 106), and 2020 starting tight end Dalton Schultz to the Carolina Panthers in exchange for the No. 8 choice, which they would then use to select Florida TE Kyle Pitts. “Even if Dak Prescott has to play another year with the franchise tag, the Dallas Cowboys would have one of the most high-powered offenses for at least a season with him and the addition of Florida’s Kyle Pitts,” Moton wrote. “The Cowboys wouldn’t have to give up a ton of draft capital to almost ensure they acquire the pass-catching tight end, though they would have to jump in front of or make a deal with the Carolina Panthers to turn this scenario into a reality.” Follow the Heavy on Cowboys Facebook page for the latest...
Getty Rondale Moore We’ve heard about the New England Patriots potentially packaging their No. 15 overall selection in a trade to get a veteran quarterback like the Houston Texans’ Deshaun Watson or the Philadelphia Eagles’ Carson Wentz. We’ve also seen reports that New England might have some interest in using the pick to select a rookie quarterback like Ohio State’s Justin Fields or Alabama’s Mac Jones. Almost all of those possibilities would be understandable strategies for the Patriots to explore, but NFL.com’s Chad Reuter has a different prediction. In his mock draft, Reuter predicts the Patriots will trade back rather than take what they regard as a second-round talent in the first round. Follow the Heavy on Patriots Facebook page for the latest breaking news, rumors, and content!Patriots Go Defensive in Round 1In Reuter’s mock trade, he has the Jacksonville Jaguars sending their 25th overall pick to the Patriots, along with a fourth and fifth-round selection in exchange for New England’s 15th selection. The Patriots’ rationale in this scenario would be as followed: With Clemson’s Trevor Lawrence (Jaguars...
Getty QB Matt Ryan of the Atlanta Falcons The Chicago Bears are going to be getting a new quarterback this offseason, whether it’s via trade, the draft or both. After finishing 8-8 for the second straight year, GM Ryan Pace admitted the team wasn’t getting enough out of the most important position in sports and he revealed “this whole offseason” would be about finding a quarterback. Naturally, that has left endless fans and analysts hypothesizing about what the Bears, who have never had a quarterback throw for more than 4,000 yards in a single season, will do at the position. They are contractually tied to veteran Nick Foles, who clearly showed he’s not the answer, and they have refused to commit to former second overall pick Mitch Trubisky at every turn, so there will likely be a new quarterback — or maybe two — in the mix for Chicago next season. When considering draft position as well as the positional needs of all 32 NFL teams, Anthony Treash of Pro Football Focus threw his hat into the ring...
Getty Cowboys RB Ezekiel Elliott How’s this for an offseason splash? In projecting the biggest NFL trades to come in 2021, Bleacher Report columnist Chris Roling urged the Dallas Cowboys to send running back Ezekiel Elliott to the New York Jets for a second-round draft pick. Roling posited his argument on the basis that this would be a financially-driven move for both parties. The Cowboys have a top-10 projected cap number in 2021, but that’s before surrendering all the leverage to star quarterback Dak Prescott on a new deal. Throwing six years and $90 million at Ezekiel Elliott and not extending corner Byron Jones is a good example of why the Cowboys defense has been the worst in the NFL all year. Elliott has only gained 832 yards on a 3.9 average this year and has five touchdowns with five lost fumbles. Promising backup Tony Pollard has managed 339 yards and two scores with a 4.5 average on 136 fewer attempts. If the Cowboys want to unload Elliott and get some cap wiggle room, a team like the...
Getty Former NBA player Kendrick Perkins. It appears that the NBA is moving forward with a December 22 start date which would mean that the league’s offseason is going to start up very soon. That means that trades could start happening and the Los Angeles Lakers appear to be players. Chris Paul is likely to be the biggest name available on the trade market and there’s been a lot of speculation that he could end up in Los Angeles. Former LeBron James teammate Kendrick Perkins believes it’s a done deal. “To be honest, I think the Lakers are going to lose [Rajon] Rondo. I really do. I think the Lakers are going to land Chris Paul, I think Rondo is going to be with the Clippers and I think y’all gonna lose Playoff Rondo,” Perkins said on Sedano and LZ, via Silver Screen and Roll. “I think that’s a guy that y’all are going to lose.” It’s doubtful that Perkins has any inside information but he’s very confident in his speculation. “Yeah Jorge I do. We all know...
