The firm Quintairos, Prieto, Wood, & Boyer, claimed in the documents that 'despite repeated requests,' Maxwell has failed to pay them.  It is the second blow to the fallen socialite's ailing fortunes in recent weeks.  Currently serving out a 20-year sentence in a low security prison in Tallahassee, Florida, Maxwell is also being sued by her criminal defense team for failing to pay legal fees of more than $850,000. Franklin, 22, says she was raped by Cleotha Abston, who authorities believe abducted and killed billionaire heiress Fletcher on September 2 as she was running early in the morning.  'Cleotha Abston should and could have been arrested and indicted for the aggravated rape of Alicia Franklin many months earlier, most likely in the year 2021,' says the suit filed in Shelby County Circuit Court. The suit contends that if authorities had acted when Franklin reported her assault, 'the abduction and murder of Eliza Fletcher would not have occurred.'...

Diana Jenkins, a star on Bravo’s hit show “The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills,” filed a lawsuit Thursday against “bots” she claims targeted her co-star’s 14-year-old son with racist messages, which Jenkins was then blamed for. Jenkins filed suit in Los Angeles Superior Court arguing that, despite her onscreen feud with Garcelle Beauvais, she would never stoop so low as to send hateful messages to Beauvais’ son Jax. Instead, Jenkins claims she is the victim of a sinister campaign to frame her for the messages, which she says were sent by online bots. Because Jenkins does not know who exactly was responsible for the campaign against Beauvais and her son, she filed the lawsuit against unknown defendants, listed as “John Does” and “John Roes” in the filing. Civil lawyers recommend filing suit in online defamation cases even before the defendant is known to avoid losing their rights under the statute of limitations. “Someone who posts racist and threatening messages to a fourteen-year old is morally bankrupt. But, Defendant was not content with attacking an innocent child. Defendant ensured...
Netflix has reached a deal to end its legal dispute with Georgian chess champion Nona Gaprindashvili, who said she was defamed in an episode of Queen's Gambit. The two sides informed the court on Monday that they had reached a deal in the case over the Emmy-winning series, based on a 1983 novel by the same name. Queen's Gambit tells the story of orphan Beth Harmon (portrayed by Anya Taylor-Joy in the show) who rose to the top of the chess world in the 1960s, defeating Russia's best players at a renowned chess tournament. Gaprindashvili, 80, took specific issue with a moment in the show in which a commentator references her, saying she 'never faced men' - and filed a $5 million defamation lawsuit against the streaming giant. Speaking about the character Harmon, the commentator says: 'The only unusual thing about her, really, is her sex. And even that's not unique in Russia. There's Nona Gaprindashvili, but she's the female world champion and has never faced men.' The chess legend argued in the lawsuit that by the year the episode is set, 1968, she...

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Mo’Nique and Netflix reportedly have settled her lawsuit that accused the streaming service of racial and sexual discrimination for allegedly making her a lowball offer for a proposed comedy special. The matter has been “amicably resolved,” Michael Parks, an attorney representing Mo’Nique in the suit, told The Hollywood Reporter. The terms of the settlement between the streaming giant and the comedian and Oscar-winning actor weren’t disclosed Wednesday, when they jointly filed in a Los Angeles federal court for the case’s dismissal. Netflix didn’t respond to a request for comment, and the law firm representing the company in the suit declined comment. Mo’Nique’s lawsuit said Netflix officials warmly praised her work before they offered her $500,000 in early 2018 for a comedy special and refused to negotiate further. Her suit said that reflected a company tendency to underpay Black women. In contrast, the suit claimed, Netflix was willing to negotiate with other comics and made deals reportedly worth tens of millions of dollars for comedy specials from Chris Rock, Ellen DeGeneres, Dave Chappelle and Ricky Gervais. Embattled Guess cofounder Paul Marciano has sued the celebrity attorney representing women accusing him of sexual misconduct for extortion, claiming she threatened to publicize a phony rape claim against him unless he agreed to pay a settlement.  Marciano, 70, was ousted from his position as CEO of the multibillion-dollar clothing empire in 2018, after the company agreed to pay $500,000 to five models who said the fashion mogul harassed them during Guess shoots. Those claims, filed by anonymous models who previously worked for Marciano, have since been brought to court by Lisa Bloom, the daughter of famed attorney Gloria Allred. Bloom, a self-described 'women's advocate' lawyer who served on the legal teams for women who accused Bill Cosby and Bill O'Reilly of sexual misconduct, represents four of those women. Their accusations came after six others had accused Marciano of misconduct - including supermodel Kate Upton. Now, Marciano - who last week narrowly escaped an attempt to remove him from the Los Angeles company’s board because of those claims - says Bloom threatened to file another suit on behalf of another unnamed accuser, in what the...

White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki's aptitude for her job and quick wit make it 'boring' for reporters who are trying to squeeze a story out of her during her daily briefings, a new report suggested on Friday. One journalist complained that 'jawing' with Psaki over tough questions made people look like 'a**holes' compared to the moral authority many reporters felt in challenging Trump administration officials. 'Jen [Psaki] is very good at her job, which is unfortunate,' one unnamed reporter who covered both Trump and Biden told Politico. 'And the work is a lot less rewarding, because you’re no longer saving democracy from [first Trump Press Secretary] Sean Spicer and his Men’s Wearhouse suit.' They added, 'Jawing with Jen just makes you look like an a**hole.' It's part of a greater look Politico took at media coverage of Donald Trump versus today's coverage of President Joe Biden -- finding that the later has been a 'journalistic sedative' compared to the bombastic and adversarial headlines Trump made with his frequent clashes with the press.  One news executive said there simply was...

An employee claims Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia Valdes asked him to process inappropriate photos of her and her husband and then was retaliated against after he refused. Media specialist Henry Hernandez of Clifton contends that he had his pay docked, saw medical issues that put him at risk during COVID ignored and found himself isolated "both socially and professionally" following two refusals. Hernandez claims in a lawsuit filed in Superior Court in Paterson that he'd been considered an "exemplary employee" until Valdes asked him to process a disc of photos that contained images of the prosecutor and her husband in "various stages of undress." Handing the disc back to her, Hernandez told the prosecutor that he couldn't process the disc because it was "appropriate for him to view these materials," the lawsuit says. The same thing happened again four years later, the suit claims. Valdes even admitted that a disc she handed Hernandez for processing held images that would be considered "inappropriate in a work environment," it alleges. Hernandez says he refused again and, from that point on, was...

Hillary Clinton's lawyers asked a federal court to toss Donald Trump's "Russiagate" lawsuit against her. Attorneys for the failed presidential candidate say the suit, which alleges Clinton engaged in "racketeering" and a "conspiracy to commit injurious falsehood" about the former president's 2016 campaign's ties to Russia, lacks legal merit in a motion to dismiss filed Wednesday. SUSSMANN DOESN’T WANT CLINTON TWEET TOUTING COLLUSION CLAIMS TO BE ADMISSIBLE "Whatever the utility of Plaintiff's Complaint as a fundraising tool, a press release, or a list of political grievances, it has no merit as a lawsuit, and should be dismissed with prejudice," the filing says. "By the complaint's own telling, these alleged events occurred long ago, and Plaintiff has been aware of his purported injuries for years." Clinton's lawyers contend that she disputes the allegations in the lawsuit but emphasize that even if they were true, Trump's suit fails to identify a "cognizable legal causes of action." Clinton's lawyers maintain that "the statute of limitations on his claims expired long ago" and that the First Amendment protects her campaign's...

An Ohio realtor filed a writ of mandamus petition with the state’s Supreme Court Monday, asking the high court to order the Ohio Elections Commission to hold an expedited hearing on her two complaints filed April 7 against gubernatorial candidate Joe Blystone and his campaign committee. “It was filed on behalf of Mary Capella, who’s a voter in Butler County, and it’s a challenge to the inaction and the avoidance responsibility by the Ohio Elections Commission to enforce the campaign finance laws of the state of Ohio,” said Curt C. Hartman, the Cincinnati elections attorney. The suit names as defendants: Phillip C. Richter, executive director of the Ohio Elections Commission; and members of the commission, Otto Beatty II, Natasha Kaufman, D. Michael Crites, Christina M. Hagan, Ernest C. Knight and John A. Lyall, the graduate of Vanderbilt Law School said. Hartman said the writ of mandamus, which is the Latin for “We command,” is an order from the judge compelling an official to either obey the law or otherwise perform his required duties, is necessary because of the cavalier attitude...

Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones has already paid nearly $3 million to the woman who filed a paternity suit against him on March 3, including a $70,000 Range Rover for her $33,000 'Sweet 16' party nine years ago, according to an Arkansas attorney who says he facilitated the transactions. Jones's alleged payments to the plaintiff, 25-year-old Alexandra Davis, also included full tuition at Southern Methodist University, Little Rock attorney Don Jack told ESPN on Thursday. 'On numerous occasions I have made payments on behalf of Mr. Jones to Cindy and Alex Davis,' Jack said in a statement, referencing the plaintiff and her mother, Cynthia Davis Spencer. Jones, a 79-year-old married father of three, has not confirmed or denied that he is Davis's father. However, Davis's 16th birthday party was featured on the reality TV show 'Big Rich Texas,' which included footage of her receiving a new, white Range Rover. Jones's attorneys accused Davis of extortion while moving to have her lawsuit dismissed in a filing earlier this week. Davis alleged in her lawsuit that when she was 1, Jones agreed...
Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones has asked a Texas civil court to dismiss a lawsuit against him that was filed by a woman claiming to be his biological daughter, whom he's now accusing of attempted extortion. Alexandra Davis, 25, sued Jones earlier this month, alleging that he paid her mother Cynthia Davis Spencer $375,000 after they had an affair in the mid-1990s that resulted in the mother's pregnancy in 1996. Jones allegedly organized two trust funds for Davis in Arkansas, where Davis Spencer was living when she gave birth to her daughter. In her March 3 filing, Davis asked the Dallas County court to rule that Jones's agreement with her mother was unenforceable in Texas and to confirm that he is, in fact, her father. Jones, who has been married to wife Eugenia for nearly 60 years, hasn't confirmed or denied Davis's accusation. Attorneys for the father of three made no reference to that claim in Monday's motion, but they did argue that the case should be moved to family court rather than civil court due to her parentage allegations....

Stacey Abrams Stacey Abrams is a skilled chess player … meaning that in all likelihood, she is moving at lightning speed ahead of Republican Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp, who she is running against this November. Her latest move is a suit filed Monday seeking court approval to use the same law that gives Kemp an enormous advantage in raising money for his reelection bid.  The suit is asking the court to give her the right to use the law that allows “leadership committees” in campaign fundraising.  The law approving the use of the committees was signed by the GOP-controlled Georgia General Assembly last year, and it gives Kemp as the incumbent the ability to raise as much money as possible throughout the campaign, even during legislative sessions. The law weighs heavily in favor of the incumbent, as the challenger can’t use money from these leadership committees until they win their party’s nomination.  RELATED STORY: As artful a politician as she is shrewd in chess, Abrams silence on Georgia bid is freaking Dems out Abrams, who is unchallenged for the Democratic gubernatorial nomination in Georgia, would like to use One...
Google hired April Curley to recruit more black workers, but fired her for pushing back against the firm’s “racially biased corporate culture,” she claims in a lawsuit filed Friday. Curley, a Black woman who worked at Google from 2014 to 2020, alleges in the lawsuit filed in U.S. District Court in San Jose that she and other Black workers at the Mountain View digital-advertising giant were paid lower wages, denied advancement opportunities, and subjected to a hostile work environment on the basis of race. She is seeking class-action status for the suit, to bring in all Black current and former Google employees. “Google’s centralized leadership, which is nearly devoid of Black representation, holds biased and stereotypical views about the abilities and potential of Black professionals,” the suit alleged. “As a result, and pursuant to company-wide discriminatory policies and practices, Google hires few Black employees and steers those few Black employees into lower-level roles, pays them less, and denies them advancement and leadership roles because of their race. Black Google employees face a hostile work environment and suffer retaliation if they...

A licensed social worker who unsuccessfully applied for a professorship at Bridgewater State University last summer has sued the college, after she was allegedly asked to defend her 'whiteness' during an interview.   Donna Johnston, a therapist in Plainfield, Connecticut, filed the race and employment discrimination suit in Massachusetts Superior Court last week, claiming she was subject to a racist interview when she applied for an assistant professorship position at the state-run school's social work department in June. The owner of the Dallas Cowboys was hit with a paternity suit from a 25-year-old woman claiming he is her biological father who bound her family to secrecy after he allegedly pursued her mother.  Alexandra Davis, who lives in Washington D.C., filed a lawsuit against billionaire Jerry Jones, 79, last week, claiming he paid her and her mother, Cynthia Davis Spenser, $375,000 to keep quiet about their relationship that began in 1995, Dallas Morning News reported. According to the lawsuit, Davis was bound by a confidentiality agreement signed by her mother, a former American Airlines ticket agent, when she was just one years old, in which two trusts for the mother and daughter were made as long as they kept Jones' paternity a secret.  Davis, who works as an aide for U.S. Rep. Ronny Jackson, 'has lived her life fatherless and in secret and in fear that if she should tell anyone who her father was, she and her mother would lose financial support, or worse,' the lawsuit states.  She has asked the court to release her from the confidentially agreement...
