The National League East standings may try to tell you something different, but the Mets are not collapsing. Granted, there is still enough time in the regular season for them to fully blow it, but the 9-8 stretch they just turned in over their last 17 games does not constitute a full-fledged collapse. The Mets lug a half-game lead in the division into Thursday, a day that both Buck Showalter’s club and the Atlanta Braves have off. The story should not be about the Mets’ much-exaggerated demise, it should be how well the Braves played. The Braves were 24-27 entering play on June 2, sitting 10.5 games behind the Mets. Since then, Atlanta played like one of the best teams of all time. That’s not hyperbole, either. The Braves’ 62-24 ledger over their last 86 games is good for a ridiculous .720 winning percentage, which computes to 116 wins over a full season, the current major league record. Essentially, it took one of the greatest heaters in the history of the sport to catch the Mets. Unlike the Braves, the...
Share this: Why is Alaska seeing so many fires this year? There isn’t one simple answer. Early in the season, southwest Alaska was one of the few areas in the state with below normal snowpack. Then we had a warm spring, and southwest Alaska dried out. An outbreak of thunderstorms there in late May and early June provided the spark.
The Yankees headed up to Canada for the weekend toting with them the overwhelming best record in baseball and a winning percentage which, if they can sustain it, would be the highest in their glorious history. We’ve seen enough, and are far enough along in the season, to believe these .750 Yankees are real (For the record, the 1927 Yankees were 110-44; .714 and the 1998 Yankees 114-48; .704.) and we’ll have an even better idea if they can be historically real after next week when they play three games on the road in Tampa Bay and four games at home against the Astros. The only question we have is how this has all come about, especially after last year when the Yankees were one of the worst fundamental and defensive teams in baseball and GM Brian Cashman was under heavy criticism for having put together one of the most dysfunctional Yankee teams in memory. Number one is health. Other than Aroldis Chapman, who wasn’t pitching well anyway, the Yankees have so far not been felled by any significant injuries,...
Getty Kansas City Chiefs linebacker Nick Bolton. Rookie linebacker Nick Bolton — a second-round pick of the Kansas City Chiefs this year — had his second-highest snap total in Week 7 against the Tennessee Titans, and thrived. On 57 total snaps, Bolton recorded 11 tackles, seven stops, and an 87.3 run defense grade, per PFF. This was during a game in which starting linebacker Anthony Hitchens (elbow) was absent from Kansas City’s lineup. Bolton posted impressive run-defending ability against a Titans team that has running back Derrick Henry, who was the NFL’s rushing leader in 2020 with 2,027 yards and is leading the league once against through seven weeks with 869 yards on the ground this season, according to ESPN. Against the Chiefs, he ran the football 26 times for 86 yards (2.97 yards per carry), which was his second-lowest total of the season, but his lowest since Week 1, per Pro Football Reference. Getty Tom Brady We might see history during Week 4 of the NFL season. The closer we get to the highly anticipated Week 4 matchup between the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the New England Patriots, the more reasons there are for the game to be must-see TV. The Bucs are off to a fast start at 2-0 following their 48-25 win over the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday. The Patriots are 1-1 and could easily be 2-0 were it not for a costly fumble late in their Week 1 loss to the Miami Dolphins. Patriots rookie quarterback Mac Jones is playing well and it’ll be fun to see how much he has come along by Week 4. Obviously, there is Tom Brady and Bill Belichick. The former is now on pace to break Drew Brees’ record for most passing yards in a career during his return to Gillette Stadium. Tom Brady is now 499 yards away from breaking the NFL all-time passing yards record (Drew Brees, 80,358 yards). Brady is on pace to break the record in two weeks...
Samantha Chang, The Western Journal May 14, 2021 0 Comments The left’s demonization of police not only has endangered public safety by fueling crime waves nationwide, but it has ignited a record number of shootings targeting cops. Twenty-three law enforcement officers have been killed so far this year and 106 have been wounded in shootings, according to the National Fraternal Order of Police. Moreover, an alarming 29 cops have been shot in 22 ambush attacks since January, the group said. “With 106 Officers Shot so far this year, on pace to surpass last year’s historic numbers,” the FOP tweeted. “Since Monday, the start of National #PoliceWeek, we’ve seen 6 officers shot, 4 of whom were gunned down by violent criminals.” ???????? WASHINGTON (Reuters) - More than 70 million Americans have cast ballots in the U.S. presidential election, more than half the total turnout of the 2016 election with one week to go until Election Day, according to a Tuesday tally from the U.S. Elections Project. The tally, which shows a record-breaking pace that could lead to the highest voter turnout in percentage terms in more than a century, is the latest sign of intense interest in the contest between Republican President Donald Trump and Democratic challenger Joe Biden. It also highlights voters' desire to reduce their risk of exposure to COVID-19 as the pandemic regathers strength heading into winter. Democrats hold a significant advantage in early voting due to their embrace of mail balloting, which Republicans have historically cast in large numbers but have shunned amid repeated and unfounded attacks by Trump, who says the system is prone to widespread fraud. Overall, Democrats hold roughly a two-to-one advantage in early voting numbers. However, Republicans in recent weeks have narrowed the gap in early, in-person voting, data shows. The high level of...
Dak Prescott is on pace to shatter the single-season passing yards record after throwing for more than 450 yards in the last three games, including 502 on Sunday against the Cleveland Browns. But for the Dallas Cowboys quarterback, it don't mean a thing if he ain’t got that ring. GIANTS' JOE JUDGE ON GOLDEN TATE-JALEN RAMSEY BRAWL: 'WE WANT TO DO OUR FIGHTING BETWEEN THE WHISTLES FOR 60 MINUTES' “I care about one stat, and that's to win,” Prescott told reporters after a 49-38 loss to the Browns. “When we don't do that, no other stats matter.” The Cowboys have started the season 1-3 in their first four games. And while the record for most teams would draw considerable questions, the NFC East is so bad that Dallas is still in contention for the title. Prescott leads the NFL with 1,690 passing yards and is on pace for 6,760 passing yards, which would dismantle Peyton Manning’s 5,477 passing yards record that he set in 2013 with the Denver Broncos.
