Hervé Pierre, Melania Trump’s former stylist, has addressed a recent report that he was paid $60,000 by the Save America PAC in four installments for “strategy consulting,” ambiguous work that he confirmed was unrelated to his official fashion duties, according to WWD. Pierre said that the $60,000 was not related to any work he did during Trump’s time in office. He also said that the money was not tied to his work in fashion. Pierre occasionally consults with the former first lady about her fashion choices, WWD reported. But that accounted for as little as 5 percent of his work for her, he said. “As with every other first lady, there is an after the White House life, which involves many other aspects than fashion. I am lucky to have worked in prestigious houses, to have designed [costumes] for ballets and more recently to work in home decor. There are many upcoming projects in this after-the-White House [stage.]” Pierre added, “It’s a great honor for me and it is very creative to give my viewpoint on some...
The political fund created to push former President Donald Trump's claims of widespread voter fraud paid $60,000 to a fashion designer for former First Lady Melania Trump, according to a new report from USA Today. The Federal Elections Commission's (FEC) records show that the Trump-backed political action committee Save America paid Hervé Pierre Braillard $60,000. The payments were reportedly broken down into four installments paid between April 7 and June 24. Although the payments were said to be made for “strategy consulting," it appears unclear what the payments were actually made for. READ MORE: Trump, allies prep to launch voter fraud battle in Georgia over Brian Kemp's gubernatorial primary win USA Today notes that the FEC has specific regulations regarding the purchase of clothing with campaign funding. "The Federal Election Commission does not allow candidate committees, which are formed to raise money for a specific candidate, to spend money on personal items, including clothing," the news outlet reported. "But Save America is not a candidate committee, it's a leadership PAC, originally designed for politicians to raise and give...

For her first public appearance since leaving the White House, former First Lady Melania Trump wore a wardrobe favorite — a Burberry trench coat with a fresh, elongated manicure. While attending game four of the World Series on Saturday evening, Melania Trump chose a Burberry trench coat. Loyal Fashion Notes readers will remember that Mrs. Trump first wore this trench in July 2018 while visiting Belgium and then, again, in June 2019 with an icy blue Hermès scarf wrapped around her hair. Perhaps in a sign of independence from the constraints of Washington, D.C., Mrs. Trump wore a longer manicure than she typically wore while in the White House. In those days, she opted for a clean, professional French manicure. On Saturday, her nails seemed longer and sharper than ever. (Elsa/Getty Images) (AP Photo/David J. First Lady Jill Biden was dressed conservatively in a textured black suit to meet Pope Francis at the Vatican today, topping off her outfit with a traditional Catholic veil, or mantilla. The 70-year-old looked polished in her patterned black and navy blazer and below-the-knee skirt as she was pictured arriving at the San Damaso Courtyard on Friday before posing for photos with the Pope inside the Vatican. Though Dr. Biden has never explicitly described herself as Catholic, she regularly attends Mass with her husband, President Joe Biden.  Dr. Biden was sure to show a nod of respect to the Pope by opting for a black outfit and covering her hair with a black lace mantilla, which are worn to show piety while in the presence of God.  She also accessorized with a pair of pointed-toe pumps, gold bracelets, and one of her favorite glittering brooches, before adding a funky fashion touch courtesy of some textured fishnet-style nude tights.  First Lady Jill Biden was dressed conservatively in a textured black suit to meet Pope Francis at the Vatican today, topping off her outfit...
Meghan McCain slammed Vogue Magazine on Wednesday for its 'intense, racist legacy' and contributions to a toxic fashion industry, after the magazine featured First Lady Jill Biden on its cover, but refused to feature Melania Trump when she was the first lady. She said she has had issues with the fashion magazine since it featured basketball star LeBron James and model Gisele Bundchen, resembling a World War I recruitment poster of a gorilla taking a white woman hostage in April 2008.  McCain also called out Vogue Editor-in-Chief Anna Wintour for her history of refusing to feature models of color on her covers. Her comments came during a discussion on 'The View' of the new cover and the backlash it sparked by conservatives who called out the magazine for refusing to feature Melania Trump in 2017.  'The View' co-host Meghan McCain called out Vogue Magazine on Wednesday for its history of racism and its role in creating a toxic fashion industry Whoopi Goldberg opened the discussion, noting that the magazine referred to Dr. Biden as a 'first lady for all...
Meghan McCain went after Vogue for putting First Lady Jill Biden on their cover after snubbing Melania Trump of that honor — calling out the magazine’s “very, very problematic history.” The View hosts discussed the Vogue cover on Wednesday’s Hot Topics, Whoopi Goldberg noting that the magazine referred to Biden as a “first lady for all of us.” “Melania was not the first lady of all of us,” Joy Behar said, adding, “I think that Anna Wintour is very fashion conscience and the jacket that said, ‘I don’t really care, do you,’ she did not consider fashion-forward.” Behar went on to slam Donald Trump for not believing in science, cracking that they should be on the cover of “Unscientific America.” Both Sunny Hostin and Sara Haines noted that the Trump administration was particularly divisive — with Haines positing Vogue kept Melania off the cover in “an attempt to not get that backlash from consumers.” “They weren’t going to go anywhere near that,” she added. McCain, however, strayed from her co-hosts, revealing she has been “done with Vogue ever since they put a very racist cover with LeBron James and Gisele [Bündchen]...
First Lady Jill Biden has landed the August cover for American Vogue after the fashion magazine snubbed for a cover former First Lady Melania Trump during her four years in the White House. The cover, released on Tuesday, features Jill Biden in an Oscar de la Renta floral dress with Tiffany & Co. earrings on an outside balcony of the White House. Shot by famous celebrity photographer Annie Leibovitz, the cover is part of a multi-photo spread where Mrs. Biden poses alongside her husband, President Joe Biden. Vogue, August 2021. (Photo via Vogue, shot by Annie Leibovitz) The cover comes after Vogue infamously refused to offer a cover to Melania Trump during her time in the White House. It has been reported that Mrs. Trump turned down Vogue twice when they offered her a profile in the magazine but did not promise to feature her on the cover. In leaked audio recordings last year, Mrs. Trump said she did not “give a fuck about Vogue.” Mrs. Trump graced the cover in February 2005, wearing her couture John Galliano for Dior wedding dress. Melania and Donald Trump debarked from their final ride with Air Force One at Palm Beach International Airport minutes before his presidential term ended Wednesday. However, it was the former first lady’s outfit that caught the attention of fashion-obsessed social media users. Instead of the all-black ensemble Melania wore when she boarded her flight from Washington, D.C, which Vanity Fair said included a Chanel jacket, Dolce & Gabbana dress, Louboutin shoes and a Hermès Birkin bag, she stepped off the aircraft in a colorfully-patterned Gucci dress that retails for $3,700. FORMER FIRST LADY MICHELLE OBAMA'S OUTFIT EARNS PRAISE ON TWITTER AS 'BEST LOOK OF THE INAUGURATION While some supporters commended Melania’s commitment to making a fashion statement, some Twitter users balked at the price tags of what she wore pre- and post-flight. Others just weren’t a fan of the hexagon print silk dress she had on while she and Trump left for their residence at the historic Mar-a-Lago Club. "The 70s wants its curtains back," one Twitter user quipped at Melania’s fashion choice. KAMALA HARRIS, HILLARY CLINTON, MICHELLE OBAMA WEAR PURPLE...
Former First Lady Melania Trump channeled a kind of relaxed, poolside tranquility as she landed in Palm Beach, Florida, after departing the White House for the final time on Wednesday. In a 1970s-inspired patterned Gucci silk-wool blend dress in cream, orange, and navy, Mrs. Trump arrived back at her home at Mar-a-Lago appearing as though she is ready for a much-needed vacation following a long campaign cycle and transition period. The Gucci number, which retails for about $3,700, was paired with navy classic buckle ballerina flats by Roger Vivier and jet-black Saint Laurent sunglasses to block the sun. The Vivier flats retail for about $550. First Lady Melania Trump waved au revoir to the White House on Wednesday morning in a jet black ensemble mimicking the late fashion icon Karl Lagerfeld, former creative director of Chanel. Mrs. Trump walked across the South Lawn for the final time during her husband’s first term in office wearing an off-the-runway Chanel cropped jacket from the French fashion house’s Pre-Fall 2020 collection. Underneath is a fitted black crepe sheath dress by Dolce & Gabbana, perhaps Mrs. Trump’s most loyal fashion duo. The dress, from the Spring 2020 Ready-to-Wear collection, retails for about $2,155. The cropped Chanel jacket, featuring silver buttons emblazoned with the brand’s iconic double C logo, was paired with black suede Bottega Veneta gloves, snakeskin Christian Louboutin stilettos, a rare black crocodile Hermès Birkin bag, and Mrs. Trump’s favorite pair of Bottega Veneta art deco-inspired sunglasses which retail for about $440. Melania Trump’s farewell to Washington, D.C. ensemble, styled by her friend and personal courtier Hervé Pierre, mimics the iconic fashion codes of the late Lagerfeld who famously headed Chanel for nearly four decades. Roughly a decade after Michelle Obama’s “McQueen Dressgate,” CNN reporters condemned First Lady Melania Trump for wearing French label Chanel and “lots of foreign designers” throughout President Donald Trump’s term. Conservative hosts and personalities were largely condemned by left leaning pundits for scandalizing Obama’s fashion sense, as she wore British label Alexander McQueen to the State Dinner with China in 2011. Yet, CNN reporters did just that on Trump’s last day in office — rebuking the first lady for failing to represent American designers. Kate Bennett took to Twitter to share a picture of Melania Trump’s Wednesday outfit — a piece from Chanel’s pre-fall 2020 collection: Melania Trump today wore @CHANEL cropped jacket, pre-fall 2020 collection. pic.twitter.com/SkGFELUufm — Kate Bennett (@KateBennett_DC) January 20, 2021 Bennett later appeared on CNN to report on the “fashion statement” — also praising Dr. Jill Biden and Michelle Obama for honoring American fashion, presumably forgetting about the McQueen debacle. “The first lady-elect Dr. Jill Biden is wearing an emerging designer, a young designer, named Alexandra O’Neil. She runs a line called Markarian, which is based in New York and started in 2017,” Bennett...
First Lady Melania Trump returned to the White House alongside President Trump on New Year’s Eve in an oversized look that mimics the out-of-proportion ensembles gracing the Parisian runways these past few seasons. Melania Trump stepped off Air Force One on Thursday, skipping the annual New Year’s Eve party at Mar-a-Lago in Palm Beach, Florida with her husband, in a wool-blend Balenciaga bubble coat featuring a Prince of Wales check print, an enormous collar, and the brand’s eye-catching sloped sleeves. The Balenciaga coat retails for about $2,990. Mrs. Trump paired the statement piece with Christian Dior’s black calfskin empreinte boots — French for footprint. The boots retail for about $1,690. Mrs. Trump also threw on a pair of black leather Bottega Veneta gloves and her favorite Saint Laurent sunglasses. The look has become a frequent staple of Balenciaga collections as of late, with the brand’s creative director often showcasing structural coats with voluminous sleeves and collars that can be seen from even the last row of a runway show. Donald Trump is coming under fire for taking the time to complain that lifestyle and fashion magazines don’t feature his wife enough, all while ignoring the deadline on a COVID-19 relief bill and a potential government shutdown now just hours away. As The Independent reported, the Christmas holiday came with a number of looming crises for the United States, including what appeared to be a completed COVID-19 relief measure that was thrown into uncertainty when Trump rejected the stimulus deal and made an unexpected demand that direct payments to Americans be increased to $2,000 from $600. It is not clear where the bill goes next, as Politico reported that congressional leaders are now racing to come up with a new bill and avoid a pending government shutdown. Even some members of his own party are calling on Trump to sign the bill. “The best way out of this is for the president to sign the bill and I still hope that’s what he decides to do,” said Republican Sen. Roy Blunt. While leaders from both parties are reportedly working on...
First lady Melania Trump hasn’t been “in Vogue” — or other fashion mags — nearly enough, President Trump said this week. Not a single major magazine has featured the former model on its cover during her husband’s presidency, prompting the Commander in Chief to vent on Christmas about the lack of attention. He shared a tweet from Breitbart News on Christmas Day complaining how “the elitist snobs in the fashion press have kept the most elegant First Lady in American history off the covers of their magazines for 4 consecutive years.” Melania Trump is “the greatest of all time,” Trump added. A count by the Daily Mail found by contrast, Michelle Obama, graced at least 12 magazine covers during her time in office — including three for Vogue alone. “First Lady Melania Trump departed the White House for Palm Beach, Florida on Wednesday in a sleek ensemble with knockout thigh-high leather boots,” gushed Breitbart’s in-house fashion guru John Binder, alongside images of the first couple departing the White House to spend Christmas at Mar-a-Lago. First Lady Melania Trump is rallying the swing state troops for her husband’s re-election bid in the final days of the campaign, wearing military-inspired coats to weather the autumn cold. Melania Trump travelled to Wisconsin and Pennsylvania, two vital swing states for President Trump, in a Michael Kors coat — inspired by American military uniforms with its gold buttons and sharp shoulders — from the brand’s Pre-Fall 2019 collection. Most prominently, the Slovenian-born former model wore a fierce Alexander McQueen army green skirt suit to deliver her speech this year at the Republican National Convention (RNC). Likewise, Mrs. Trump did a sort of riff on...

Melania Trump spoke to thousands of supporters in Tampa, wearing a sleeveless snow leopard print crepe dress by Jason Wu. The dress retails for about $1,200. To accessorize the garment, Mrs. Trump chose a black leather belt by Azzedine Alaïa, Christian Louboutin black leather stilettos, and a pair of black acetate Saint Laurent sunglasses to protect from the sunshine. Michelle Obama wearing a floral dress from Talbots in 2013. Aude Guerrucci-Pool/Getty Images While first ladies of yesteryear preferred high-fashion designers and custom creations, modern presidents' wives like Michelle Obama and Melania Trump have been spotted wearing affordable fashion brands. Michelle Obama regularly wore items from J. Crew, Gap, and Target during Barack Obama's presidency. Melania Trump has also worn affordable pieces, such as Timberland boots and Converse sneakers. Barbara Bush famously wore a $29 pair of shoes to her husband's inaugural ball. Visit Insider's homepage for more stories. From Jackie Kennedy to Melania Trump, first ladies have long been lauded as fashion icons.  However, in recent years, first ladies have experimented with affordable looks from brands like J. Crew, Gap, White House Black Market, J Brand, and even Target. Here are 13 times US first ladies have worn affordable clothing.
First Lady Melania Trump hit the campaign trail for her husband, President Trump, with a stop in Pennsylvania on Tuesday where she donned an affordable military-esque trench coat. Melania Trump jet-setted off to Pennsylvania where she delivered a speech, wearing a madi cotton-gabardine trench coat by Michael Kors that retails for just $250. The trench features classic details and gold hardware. The trench is sort of a spin-off of Mrs. Trump’s off-the-runway Alexander McQueen military-inspired look that she wore to deliver her Republican National Convention (RNC) speech. Mrs. Trump paired the Michael Kors trench with Saint Laurent sunglasses and metallic bronze Christian Louboutin stilettos. Also, in a rare glimpse, a White House staffer can be seen carrying Mrs. Trump’s Louis Vuitton luggage that is appropriately tagged “FLOTUS.” (SAUL LOEB/AFP via Getty Images) (AP Photo/Evan Vucci) (SAUL LOEB/AFP via Getty Images) (AP Photo/Alex Brandon) (SAUL LOEB/AFP via Getty Images) (AP Photo/Alex Brandon) (SAUL LOEB/AFP via Getty Images) (AP Photo/Alex Brandon) (AP Photo/Evan Vucci) (SAUL LOEB/AFP via Getty Images) (AP Photo/Susan Walsh) (AP...
First Lady Melania Trump attended the swearing-in ceremony of United States Supreme Court Justice Amy Coney Barrett, donning a herringbone skirt suit ripped from the Milan runway. Melania Trump wore a Dolce and Gabbana wool-blend herringbone twill skirt, high-waisted, with the matching double-breasted blazer straight from the Italian design duo’s Fall 2019 Ready-to-Wear collection. First Lady Melania Trump emerged from quarantine at the White House on Thursday, stepping out in a chic black ensemble for the final presidential debate. For her first public outing since having the Chinese coronavirus, Melania Trump chose a black Christian Dior dress with a wide lapel and thin leather belt as she headed to Nashville, Tennessee alongside President Trump. Mrs. Trump paired the Dior frock with a pair of acetate black sunglasses, likely by Saint Laurent, and black patent leather Christian Louboutin stilettos which Mrs. Trump owns in multiple colors. Loyal Fashion Notes readers may recall that Mrs. Trump has worn versions of this Dior dress and belt combo before. In September 2018, on a trip to Manhattan, Mrs. Trump wore a similar Dior dress with black Louboutins. First Lady Melania Trump suited up for her husband’s first presidential debate this election cycle, choosing a sharp ensemble that evokes a return to classics. While departing the White House for Cleveland, Ohio, Melania Trump chose a black and white pinstripe suit from Dolce and Gabbana’s Fall 2019 Ready-to-Wear collection. The suit, which retails for $2,345, features sharp jutting shoulders and dramatic peaked lapels. Mrs. Trump paired the suit with a white button-down shirt and a pair of faded navy sunglasses similar to those by Fendi. While leaving the White House, Mrs. Trump wore navy Manolo Blahniks but eventually changed into a pair of navy Christian Louboutins upon her arrival in Cleveland. The suit, from Dolce and Gabbana’s classical-inspired collection, is a return to Mrs. Trump’s wardrobe from her first year as First Lady where she readily opted for designs by the Italian duo (who can forget the couture-like blossom coat in Sicily, Italy in May 2017?!) Kamala Harris has been slammed for copying Melania Trump's style by wearing Timberland boots to visit the devastation of the California wildfires this week.   The Democratic Vice President candidate and Governor Gavin Newsom walked through the wreckage of the Creek Fire and toured a Red Cross evacuation center on Tuesday. As Harris talked about the impact of climate change on the wildfires, she caught the attention of social media users for her outfit. She sported camel colored Timberland boots with a white shirt, green jacket and jeans.  The First Lady wore similar wheat-colored Timberland boots in 2018 during a trip to the Al Asad Air Base to visit American troops in Iraq. When it comes to fashion, First Lady Melania Trump loves her ivories, chiffons, creams, and stark whites. As we’ve seen since 2017, Melania Trump has favored shades of white possibly more than any other color in her wardrobe — especially when it comes to her hats. In 2018, I listed a handful of Mrs. Trump’s hottest white ensembles and this year, we’re due for another. From her white leather Hermés Birkin bag in France to her Alexander McQueen at Mount Rushmore in South Dakota, these are Mrs. Trump’s best white looks from the past couple of years for Labor Day. 1. First Lady Melania Trump made a shocking color choice for the final night of the Republican National Convention (RNC), channeling an electric elegance that she has yet to do during her time in the East Wing. Melania Trump wore a pleated cape, sleeveless boat neck gown in a neon green off-the-runway Valentino frock from the Spring 2020 ready-to-wear collection. This is the first time that Mrs. Trump has worn this shade as First Lady. The dress retails for $5,500. Mrs. Trump paired the gown with a deep red thin leather belt and matching Manolo Blahnik stilettos. The dress has a 1980s quality, an era that Mrs. Trump has rarely channeled, instead opting for the period of the 1970s with suede coats, A-line skirts, and large collars. Comedy Central’s The Daily Show saw First Lady Melania Trump’s lime-green dress at her husband’s Republican National Convention speech and couldn’t resist engaging in a little TV mischief. As she and President Donald Trump exited the White House on Thursday night, her green Valentino dress was a striking contrast to the red, white, and blue splashed all around the South Lawn. But her color choice also had the unfortunate side effect of being nearly the exact same shade as TV green screens. On its Twitter feed, The Daily Show posted a short video clip that projected some archival video of Trump laughing and joking with his former friend, convicted sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein. “Melania’s fashion choices always send a message,” the tweet archly captioned. First Lady Melania Trump joined President Trump, Vice President Mike Pence, and Second Lady Karen Pence on stage in Baltimore, Maryland at the Republican National Convention (RNC), popping in a fuchsia cocktail dress. For the third evening of the RNC, Melania Trump broke from her military-inspired Alexander McQueen look from the night before, opting for a bright fuchsia frock by Jason Wu — a Taiwanese-Canadian designer based in New York City, New York. The dress features two black velvet waist ties, cinching Mrs. Trump’s small frame before billowing out to a full skirt. Mrs. Trump paired the ensemble with black velvet Manolo Blahnik stilettoes. It’s military chic. First lady Melania Trump appeared to wear a designer military jacket from Alexander McQueen for her Republican National Convention speech. The fashion fatigues sell for nearly $1,500 online — at a discount — and were paired with a pencil skirt for her Rose Garden address. The jacket was also sported by model Kaia Gerber, who wore an even shorter skirt and jet black leather boots when she rocked the outfit in October 2019. While wearing the faux-military gear, Melania offered words of encouragement for those battling the coronavirus pandemic. “I want to acknowledge the fact that since March our lives changed drastically. The invisible enemy COVID-19 swept across our beautiful country and impacted all of us. My deepest sympathy goes out to everyone who has lost a loved one, and my prayers are with those who are ill or suffering,” she said during her 30-minute speech. Melania, 50, also shared her immigration story as a Yugoslavia-born fashion model. “After 10 years of paperwork and patience, I studied for the test in 2006 and became an American...
First Lady Melania Trump stole the show on the second evening of the Republican National Convention (RNC) in the Rose Garden, speaking about her passions in public life, wearing a sharp ensemble that has become a go-to aesthetic in her wardrobe. Melania Trump delivered the speech in full Alexander McQueen with metallic brown Christian Louboutin stilettos. The look’s jutting shoulders, cinched leather-belted waist, notched lapel, and olive khaki cotton is a familiar tone for Mrs. Trump who has often chosen uniform and military-inspired fashions over the last three and half years. This particular ensemble is reminiscent of a Joseph Altuzarra skirt suit in a similar shade of olive that Mrs. Trump wore in 2017 while meeting Argentina’s leader at the White House. Mrs. Trump’s McQueen military jacket features front button fastening, front flap pockets, a fitted waist, pleated details, and button cuffs. The jacket retails for about $1,470. Likewise, the high-waisted midi skirt has a similar pleated detail at the back hem. The skirt retails for $534. The most cutting edge element of Mrs. Trump’s McQueen look — a true fashion gasp...
In front of the White House on Monday, First Lady Melania Trump visited school children who presented her with their artwork celebrating the 100th anniversary of the 19th Amendment. For the event, Melania Trump chose a tangerine Dries van Noten tea length sheath dress. The garment is reminiscent of the Dries van Noten coat that she wore in Tokyo, Japan in May of last year. The dress trimmed on the neckline and hem with almost a muslin, the unbleached cotton fabric typically used by designers for pattern-making in the stage of the dressmaking process. Mrs. Trump kept the color palette mostly monochromatic, as she often does, paring the rich shade of orange with matching suede sky-high Christian Louboutin “So Kate” pumps. First Lady Melania Trump mixed up a couple of wardrobe favorites for a ceremony commemorating the 100th anniversary of the ratification of the 19th Amendment. Melania Trump chose a suffragette white Michael Kors asymmetrical skirt suit for a ceremony in the Blue Room of the White House commemorating the ratification of the 19th Amendment. The suit was paired with a gingham Michael Kors belt and matching custom Manolo Blahnik stilettos. Loyal Fashion Notes readers may recognize the entire look as Mrs. Trump and her personal courtier Hervé Pierre pulled the pieces from two looks previously worn in 2017 and 2018. The suit is from Mrs. Trump’s most iconic ensemble to date when she donned a custom hat by Pierre and Christian Louboutins to welcome France’s Emmanuel and Bridgitte Macron to the White House on April 24, 2018. Meanwhile, the belt and heels are taken from Mrs. Trump’s monochromatic gingham look that she wore landing in Brussels, Belgium on May 24, 2017. I would say there are only a handful of women in history who have successfully pulled off white ensembles on...
First Lady Melania Trump returned to the White House on Sunday evening waxing nostalgia for simpler times in a monochromatic ensemble with various textures. Following a weekend trip to Bedminster, New Jersey, Melania Trump returned to the White House alongside President Trump and their son, Barron, in a light brown Stella McCartney organic cotton shirt dress with a knotted faux leather belt. The dress is available online. Mrs. Trump paired the garment with a pair of her favorite Manolo Blahnik stilettos, featuring brown suede and leather pointed tips, which she has worn on multiple occasions. Likewise, Mrs. Trump carried a staple from her closet, a small brown leather Hermès Birkin bag. The bag, which Mrs. Trump has in a variety of colors and textures, can often retail for up to $20,000. Loyal Fashion Notes readers will know that Mrs. Trump wore a strikingly similar outfit about a year ago on her trip to the United Kingdom. In a Céline beige trench coat and a black crocodile Birkin bag, Mrs. Trump strutted down London’s Downing Street. Nostalgia for only a year ago, when...
We all have those friends who continue to live their lives online, sharing their brunch and July 4th cookouts, ignoring the disastrous backdrop of a global pandemic and nationwide protests. Count Melania and Ivanka Trump among such social media showboats. Echoing Trump’s new strategy for handling the coronavirus crisis—“we need to live with it”—both women used the holiday weekend to parade some flashy clothing after months of austere dressing. Face masks, which Ivanka so performatively promoted in the past, were not to be found in photos taken from her western vacation.  Was Ivanka’s Heidi-on-the-range getup—a ruffled denim dress and milkmaid braids—tasteful to wear only days after law enforcement pepper sprayed a group of mostly Native American protesters peacefully marching against her father’s tacky Mt. Rushmore vanity project? Probably not, but at least she was having fun.  “Lots of love and memories as the sun sets on the 4th of July weekend!” Ivanka captioned a photo showing her cozying up to Jared Kushner, who fared well standing under a hot sun for a man whose overall aesthetic embodies a melted...
