Image source: KTRK-TV video screenshot The youth league said the parent in question was a substantial threat and violated multiple conduct policies, KTRK reported. League president Edward Hart sent the following statement to the station: This was an incident that could have ended much worse than it did. A parent running onto the game field after an opposing team player can have a counter-effect of the child's parent(s) responding in kind in defense of their own child, not to mention potential reactions of the staff members of both teams. Fortunately, the staff of both teams were able to get things under control and did not allow the incident to escalate. An assigned on-site police officer further de-escalated things by escorting the offending party out of the facility. This particular facility does not afford itself to our standard access control policies since it is basically an open field with multiple entry points, and has no barriers between spectators and the game field." Hart added to KTRK that the woman who chased the player has been permanently banned from...

She says she will pay the bills but she is a grown adult. How do I tell her that adults leave the nest?” However, while they may have been expecting to receive some advice, commenters quickly began to criticise the parent. One commenter wrote: “If you do tell her that, don't be mad if she doesn't want a relationship with you any longer. You brought her into this world, she should always be your little girl.  “If she's trying to better herself through higher education to put herself in a better position to take care of herself, and you when...

The emotions washed over Jorge López in a wave of memories, details from a life with his grandfather by his side. The Orioles’ right-handed reliever had flown back to Puerto Rico to be there — because he had to be. His grandfather had been there for López, after all. Missing a few games meant nothing compared to saying goodbye. “He did so much for us,” López said. “I wanted to do more for him. That’s the thing: I feel like he gave me more.” He gave López baseball, for one. Each day after his grandfather got home from work — he spent 35 years with the police, serving as a narcotics traffic captain — he and López would sit down on the couch and turn on baseball. His grandfather would walk him through each play, explaining why a player did what he did. When López would play at the park near their house, his grandfather would be in the stands, cheering him on. He accompanied López on his first travel baseball tournament outside their hometown of Caguas, Puerto Rico. López...

Facebook parent Meta Platforms Inc. has settled a decade-old class action lawsuit over the company’s use of “cookies” in 2010 and 2011 that tracked people online even after they logged off the Facebook platform. As part of the proposed settlement, which must still be approved by a judge, Meta has agreed to delete all the data it “wrongfully collected” during that period. The company, which posted profits of $39.37 billion in 2021, will also pay $90 million to users who filed a claim, after lawyer fees are deducted. “Reaching a settlement in this case, which is more than a decade old, is in the best interest of our community and our shareholders and we’re glad to move past this issue,” said Meta spokesperson Drew Pusateri in a statement on Tuesday. According to the lawsuit, Facebook got people’s consent to track them while they were logged in to its platform but promised to stop the tracking once they logged out. But the suit claimed that Facebook continued to track users’ browsing activity even after they had logged off. The case...

As Daily Kos continues to chronicle, school board meetings across the nation have been steadily picking up both local and national media attention, and for an important reason. Why? If it’s not people protesting mask mandates, it’s people speaking up for (or, sadly, against) trans rights. In both of these cases, the people affected are students and the people who work with them—teachers, janitorial staff, bus drivers, and so on. As reported by CNN, a school board election in the small town of Hastings, Minnesota, involves conservative hysteria on both masks and trans rights—and led to an 8-year-old trans girl being outed. After she was outed, she was allegedly bullied by her peers. Who did the outing? According to CNN, anti-mask parents took it upon themselves to attack and out the little girl, who is the daughter of Kelsey Waits, the school board chair, because they disagreed with COVID-19 policies at the school. Waits, interestingly, is also a conservative but has enough decency to be pro-mask and supportive of her daughter. Now, she says she and her family are leaving...
