A GARDENING expert has revealed a top tip to get your seedlings started off on the right foot. Judy Wilder reveals that citrus rind can provide a great way to get your young plants off to a great start – but it only works for certain types. 2Citrus fruit rind, such as oranges, can be used to get seedlings off to a great start but it only really works for acid-loving plantsCredit: Getty - Contributor Writing for Family Handyman, she says grapefruit, orange and other citrus rinds are ideal for starting new seedings. First of all, make a hole in the bottom of each one to allow drainage and then add some damp see-starting mix and seeds. When they are ready to be moved outside, simply plant it, including the rind, into the ground. However, she warns this only really works for acid-loving plants because the citrus rinds make the soil more acidic. What would you take? Imagine the moment – hearing the sound of sirens, the crump of weapons, the crash of bombs – when you know you must flee from your beloved home to any place of safety. You grab a bag or two – you can't carry much – your children are crying, your heart cold with terror. Do you take your little one's beloved teddy bear? Will you stuff that treasured framed photo of your late parents into the rucksack, as you hold back your tears for the sake of the kids? Putin's objective is believed to be to seize Kyiv and oust President Volodymyr Zelenskyy so he can install a compliant puppet regime. Ukrainian forces however fought fiercely - repelling a number of attacks as they pushed back against the Russian regime. Good looking people are more likely to get a job and receive better performance evaluations thanks to the 'beauty premium,' but less-attractive people can level the playing field by having a powerful posture, a new study suggests.    Researchers from the University at Buffalo School of Management determined that less-attractive people who stand with their feet shoulder-width apart, hands on hips, chest out and chin up, known as the 'power pose,' can cut into the 'beauty premium' that good-looking people enjoy. This is where employers value attractiveness in employees when deciding salary and in hiring. A study by the University of Iowa revealed that taller men and skinnier women earned up to £700 more per year than short men and fatter women. Other studies have found that...
Even after 25 years of marriage, Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos are no strangers to social media flirting.  While on a recent summer beach vacation, Ripa took to Instagram to share a cheeky photo of the couple lounging by the pool, where her actor husband is checking her out from behind. Consuelos replied to the photo by commenting "Okay" with several fire and heart emojis.  Back in February, when Consuelos posted for their youngest son's 18th birthday, Ripa wrote, "You know what? Making him was so much fun......". The comment received over 1,000 likes. After meeting on the set of "All My Children" in 1995, they eloped on May 1, 1996, and have three children together. After a harrowing childhood, a troubled first marriage and the loss of two of her children, Maz Rhodes suffered for years with depression, as well as insomnia. In fact, the two have strong links — according to one major study by psychiatrists at Bristol University, about three quarters of patients with depression experience insomnia to varying degrees, with more women affected than men. 'Every day, no matter how tired I was, I would be wide-awake at 11pm,' says Maz, a 64-year-old grandmother from Barton-upon-Humber in Lincolnshire.  'You end up not wanting to go to bed because of the fear of not sleeping. 'I would stay up until two, not get to sleep until four and still have to get up first thing. It's not a way to live.' Over the years she had been prescribed different medications at different doses, with little effect, she says. But she has now benefited from a new treatment that has dramatically improved her sleep and significantly reduced her symptoms of depression. The treatment was chronotherapy, its use pioneered in Britain by Professor...
Critical race theory (CRT) is now center stage in the culture war between left and right, emerging in recent months as one of the nation’s most contentious issues.  On the surface, it may seem progressives are winning as CRT infects schools across America, but the fight against this racist indoctrination is really a winning issue for conservatives. According to CRT, racism is a social construction that pervades every aspect of American life, benefiting all White people (regardless of their socio-economic standing) at the expense of non-White people. Advocates of CRT believe the solution is to undo many of the cornerstones of American society. The theory is a form of cultural Marxism based on race rather than class. GREG GUTFELD: EVERY BANNED PHRASE AND TERRIFIED ADMINISTRATOR IS A FEATHER IN THE CAP OF THE MINDLESS WOKE The media portrays CRT as a serious academic field confined to law schools. MSNBC guest host Zerlina Maxwell, for example, said last week that CRT "refers to the study of structural racism and it's not taught until college or graduate school, law school. It's a law...
ferrantraite/Getty Images Hormone replacement therapy can cause specific skin concerns for trans people.  Testosterone-based HRT can cause acne and scarring if left untreated, while estrogen-based HRT can cause hyperpigmentation and dryness. Doctors recommend using a combination of retinols, vitamin C, and moisturizer to treat these issues.  Visit Insider's homepage for more stories. Starting hormone replacement therapy (HRT) can be an amazing way to treat gender dysphoria for trans people.  Some people endearingly call starting hormones "second puberty," because of the bodily changes that come with HRT. Just like puberty in your teens, second puberty can come with specific skincare concerns.  It's common for trans masculine people who start testosterone-based HRT to experience severe acne, and for trans feminine people, starting estrogen-based HRT may make their skin prone to hyperpigmentation.  Insider spoke to doctors about the most common HRT  skincare concerns and how to treat them.  People who start estrogen may experience dryness and hyperpigmentation Valeria Blanc/Getty Images Starting estrogen-based HRT can cause hyperpigmentation and dry skin, according to Dr. Sunitha Posina, an NYC-based internal medicine physician.  Hyperpigmentation...
Caffeinated drinks like tea and coffee might be good for keeping you awake, but they are no 'cure all' and can't stop you making mistakes at work, study shows.  Despite making you more alert, they don't help prevent the kind of sleep deprivation-related thinking errors that might cause medical mistakes or car accidents. That is according to a team from Michigan State University who gave sleep-deprived volunteers caffeine and then set them a series of challenging 'place-keeping' tasks. 'There is no replacement for good sleep,' according to the study authors, who say caffeine keeps you awake, but doesn't improve you performance.   Caffeinated drinks like tea and coffee might be good for keeping you awake, but they are no 'cure all' and can't stop you making mistakes at work, study shows. My son Daniel revels in it, but for me, that daily shower — or rather, the 40-second blast of pure cold water at the end — is something I rather dread. Of course, the discomfort is momentary, and afterwards I feel alert and ready for the day.  This is one of ten really simple things, — all based on good science — I’ve incorporated into my daily routine for my physical and mental wellbeing. They also all fit in with the SMART approach, a technique proven to help you stick to goals.  To test your balance stand on one leg: you should be able to do more than 30 seconds with your eyes open and at least eight seconds with them closed. (CNN)There's no evidence that animals are playing a significant role in the spread of coronavirus to humans, but precautions can help keep people and their pets safe, US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention officials said Monday."Based on limited information available to date, the risk of animals, including pets, spreading Covid-19 to people is considered to be low," CDC official Dr. Casey Barton Behravesh said during a briefing Monday.Evidence suggests that Covid-19 likely originated in animals before becoming widespread among humans."As of the middle of January, we're aware of 187 animals from 22 countries with a confirmed SARS-CoV-2 infection," Behravesh said, noting those numbers do not include mink on mink farms. She added that no animal deaths have yet been linked to the virus. Teddy and his sisters Danielle and Luz. Teddy’s two older sisters aren’t eligible to vote in this year’s election, but he is—and he’s going to cast his ballot to protect his family from deportation. “If DACA were to end,” he says, “I have a chance of losing my family. And who am I without my family?” But Teddy can’t do it alone, and in a digital new ad from pro-immigrant group United We Dream Action (UWDA) PAC is calling on voters everywhere to help keep his family together by making their voices heard this November. “My sisters have DACA and Trump wants to deport them,” the 18-year old high school student says in the ad, which shines an important light on the struggles that mixed-status immigrant families are facing due to the Trump administration’s racist policies and its failed response to the novel coronavirus pandemic. “Right now, both of my parents are unemployed due to COVID-19, and my sister’s the one paying all the bills.” “I want voters to know that their vote matters,” he continues later in the ad, “and has the power...
While Denver’s ballot looks dauntingly long, many of the items are simply housekeeping measures — but we all know how dirty houses can get. There was plenty of down-and-dirty fighting over a few of the proposals that Denver City Council referred to the ballot. This year, Denver voters can decide if they want to ante up for a cleaner environment, as well as tax themselves to provide more help for the homeless. They can give councilmembers more power in this strong-mayor town, and allow them to exercise some of that power virtually. And finally, they’ve got the chance to show the city’s three-decade-old pit bull ban the door. The explosive new biography Finding Freedom has shed some light on the life of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's fourteen-month-old son Archie Harrison. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex say they were not interviewed for the book and did not contribute to the tale by authors Omid Scobie and Carolyn Durand which provides a dramatic and personalised account of the events leading up to the Sussexes' dramatic departure from royal life. In one part, the authors describe how Archie became the royal couple's 'sole source of joy' during a period when they felt 'so much stress in their life.' The book offers new insights into why the couple decided upon his unusual name, which means 'bravery and strength', after dismissing the more traditional Archibald 'after considering it for a second'. Meanwhile the authors also reveal a glimpse into the couple's life with Archie, whom they welcomed last June, including the name of one of his illusive 'secret' godparents and the swimming lessons he has taken throughout his short life.     Finding Freedom has offered a glimpse into the private life of Prince Harry35,...
ST PETERSBURG, FLORIDA - SEPTEMBER 25: Jonathan Loaisiga #43 of the New York Yankees pitches in the first inning during a game against the Tampa Bay Rays at Tropicana Field on September 25, 2019 in St Petersburg, Florida. (Photo by Mike Ehrmann/Getty Images) If the Yankees want to thrive in the upcoming 60-game regular season, they will need these three under-the-radar pitchers to come up big.  Pitching is only going to become more important for the Yankees with the news that the regular season will be shortened by over 100 games. To thrive under those circumstances, Aaron Boone will need big contributions from everyone on his staff. There’s no denying the organization’s need for stars like Gerrit Cole and Masahiro Tanaka to pitch at a high level. Depth is also going to be an important differentiating factor for the Yankees. The talent that New York has at the back end of its rotation and in the bullpen could be the difference between a mediocre season and one that concludes with a parade down the Canyon of Heroes. In particular, Boone...
