CNN’s chief international anchor Christiane Amanpour said that Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi demanded at the last minute that she wear a head scarf as a “matter of respect” during an interview planned for Wednesday evening, prompting her to “politely decline” his “unprecedented and unexpected condition.” Raisi then withdrew from the long-planned interview. With anti-government protests raging in the streets of Iran following the death of a young woman in police custody, Amanpour hoped to press Raisi about the news in his first-ever interview on American soil. The hardline Iranian leader was in New York for the United Nations General Assembly. In one of the largest displays of defiance against the Islamic Republic in years, demonstrations have erupted in the wake of Mahsa Amini’s death in custody following her arrest last weekend by Tehran’s so-called “morality police.” She was detained on allegations she violated Iranian law requiring women to wear head scarves in public. Iranian officials have claimed the 22-year-old woman died from a “heart attack.” Amanpour, who was raised in Tehran and speaks Farsi, told CNN’s New Day on Thursday...

The Taliban has ordered women to wear the all-covering head-to-toe burka once again in one of the harshest restrictions imposed on women in Afghanistan since the religious fanatics returned to power. Afghanistan's supreme leader and Taliban chief Hibatullah Akhundzada issued the decree today at a function in Kabul. 'They should wear a chadori (head-to-toe burqa) as it is traditional and respectful,' it said. The news is likely to come as a crushing blow to many the 20 million women in the country that had enjoyed relative freedom and equality under the previous US-backed administration.  Women's rights in Afghanistan have been rolled back since the Taliban retook control of the country in September last year, initially promising to respect the fundamental rights of women. A woman who experienced horrifying chemical burns after having her hair bleached has claimed she was left needing a skin graft on her head and with a permanent bald patch. Ellie Swain, 24, from Sutton, Surrey, booked in with a hairdresser at Signatures Hair Studio in Crawley, West Sussex, for scalp bleach treatment to lighten her brunette hair in May 2021. It is understood that the studio deny responsibility for the injuries, but failed to provide a response for publication when approached. The beauty fanatic claims she began to feel a burning sensation on her head just ten minutes after the bleach was applied. Days later her scalp blistered and began oozing pus and she claims she was told she had suffered serious 'chemical' burns. Horrifying photos show how in the end she was forced to have half of her head shaved and a skin graft from her thigh to replace dead skin on the back of her head. On Tuesday’s broadcast of the Fox News Channel’s “Your World,” Sen. Bill Cassidy (R-LA) stated that while he supports increased coronavirus spending, you can’t support that and also end Title 42 and criticized the Biden administration for still mandating masks in Head Start programs while saying “there’s no reason to worry about COVID” among people entering the U.S. Cassidy said, “I find it ironic the administration wants $10 billion to address the COVID epidemic, which, by the way, as a doctor, I support, but then they’re telling us there’s no reason to worry about COVID among those coming here illegally that have a much lower rate of immunization than do we. You can’t have it both ways. Are we still going to require kids in Head Start programs to wear a mask on the playground, but not worry about people coming across the border? They want it both ways. If we’re going to address COVID, let’s address it.” He added that if Title 42 is lifted, “I envision a lot more people coming here, crossing the border, even more than...
COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — Noor Abukaram’s elation at completing one of her first varsity cross-country races quickly turned to disappointment when she failed to find her name among those of her high school teammates on the results list. To Abukaram’s shock, she learned she’d been disqualified for something she’d done all season as a Muslim athlete: wear a hijab. “My worst nightmare just came true,” Abukaram said this month as she recalled the October 2019 race in which her team from Sylvania Northview in suburban Toledo qualified for the Ohio regional championships. At the time, Ohio High School Athletic Association rules banned most head coverings and caps unless competitors received religious exemption waivers in advance. Abukaram’s coach acknowledged making a mistake by not obtaining a waiver but said he didn’t think it was needed because it hadn’t been an issue at prior races. Abukaram’s experience, and efforts to prevent similar episodes elsewhere, have garnered national attention recently. Last year, the National Federation of State High School Associations announced it will no longer require state approval to allow soccer or...
Co-host Sunny Hostin added that kids were either not allowed to be vaccinated yet or remained unvaccinated, and she was worried about future effects of the coronavirus that might not be understood already. Dr. Laura Wright disagreed with the other hosts and cited death statistics to bolster her argument that parents and others need to make their own risk assessment about whether to wear masks. "We need to weigh risks. Tradeoffs is a basic thing that we teach," said Wright. "We need to be able to be adults about this. Why should you have to make decisions like this? Why has the messaging been so inconsistent?" CDC Director Dr. Rochelle Walensky said Wednesday that the organization was reviewing its guidance in light of new statistics. “We want to give people a break from things like mask-wearing when these metrics are better, and then have the ability to reach for them again should things worsen,” she explained. Also on Thursday, Dr. Anthony Fauci opined that it would be "risky" to allow...

Yep, people still wear pantyhose, and yep, people still shake their fists at the fashion gods every time they put on a pair because it’s only a matter of time (sometimes mere minutes) until a dreaded run appears. Before we get deep into the review, we wanted to give you a heads-up that Sheertex is having an early tights Black Friday sale with best-selling tights and pantyhose marked down between 30 to 50 percent off. Sheertex, which launched in 2018 and even earned accolades from TIME for being one of the year’s best inventions — claims that their $60 Classic Sheers won’t betray you like the others. However, given my personal history with pantyhose, I wasn’t 100% sold in their indestructibility, so I decided to really put them to the test. Before I get into what might qualify as pantyhose abuse, though, let’s briefly discuss Sheertex’s patent-pending knit technology. Trump White House Coronavirus Response Coordinator Dr. Deborah Birx told congressional investigators behind closed doors between 30 percent and 40 percent fewer Americans would have died from COVID-19 if then-president Donald Trump and the Trump administration had supported just the basic coronavirus preventative protocols like mask wearing. According to Birx's statement, up to 295,000 Americans would not have died if Trump and his administration had supported the basic protocols. On April 3, 2020 Trump chose to make the announcement to the American people that CDC was advising mask-wearing, and during that same press briefing he immediately announced he would not wear a mask. "It's voluntary and you don't have to do it," Trump declared on national television. Repeatedly stressing the word "voluntary," Trump added, "I don't think I'm going to be doing it." Ocean Breeze Elementary School is located in Brevard County, which implemented a mask mandate on Aug. 30, and recently extended the policy until Oct. 29. The county's mask mandate defied the executive order by Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis banning students from being required to wear masks in school and allowing the parents to decide, which was later blocked by a federal judge. Previously, there was no parent "opt-out" option in Brevard County schools, but that changed on Friday after weekly cases dropped to 50 per 100,000 in Brevard County, giving parents the option to decide if children should wear face masks at school. Sofia struggles to communicate, so her parents don't know how long she had been purportedly forced to wear a face mask, but the father believes that the school forced the mask on his daughter for six weeks. This is the moment a woman was violently arrested in Iran using what appears to be a dog-catching pole for failing to wear a headscarf.  Video of the arrest posted online last week shows the woman being dragged by her hair through the streets of Tehran while seemingly snared by the catch pole, before being bundled into a 'morality police' van. Masih Alinejad, a prominent Iranian women's rights campaigner who uploaded the footage, said the woman was arrested for failing to wear a head covering - mandatory for women in the Islamic Republic. She dismissed Tehran police deputy chief Colonel Morad Moradi who said the woman had actually been arrested for being 'insulting and aggressive', saying police often 'make up other charges' for women who breach morality laws.  Iranian police in Tehran were filmed violently arresting a woman using what appears to be a dog-catching pole (circled above) 'Unveiled women [are accused] of prostitution or creating moral corruption,' she said. Please count all the freedoms you see in this picture. Facebook is a menace. COVID-19 is a menace. Conservatism is a cesspool. Together, those three ingredients have created a toxic stew of malevolent death and devastation. We can talk about all those things in the abstract, look at the numbers and statistics, and catch the occasional whiff of seditionist right-wing rhetoric. But I hadn’t really fully understood just how horrifying that combination of right-wing extremism, Facebook, and a killer virus was until I became a regular at the Herman Cain Awards subreddit. This series will document some of those stories, so we are aware of what the other side is doing to our country. Today’s cautionary tale is Bill. Let’s start with a rote “liberals are all sheep,” but more offensive, because that’s edgy and cool.  Bill loved Fauci strap-on head dildos so much, he made it his cover photo.  “Is this the hill you want to die on” is known, in narrative circles, as “foreshadowing.” But usually one tries to be a little more subtle about it.  What’s actually quite fascinating...
WALKING AWAY from a plane crash may seem unlikely, but experts claim that 95 per cent of them are actually survivable. However, this is down to passengers and their own actions, including the seats to avoid and the clothes to wear. 3Experts have revealed how to survive a plane crash, with 95 per cent of them survivableCredit: Alamy Plane crash incidents rose last year, despite the pandemic. According to the Dutch aviation firm To70, the number of people killed in large commercial airplane crashes rose in 2020 to 299, with 40 accidents - five of which were fatal. While this may seem worrying, this works out to just one fatal crash for every 3.7m flights. Alarming new research suggests the UK government's decision not to make e-scooter riders wear helmets is not only misguided, but potentially lethal.  According to the research by Detroit-based physicians, head and neck injuries make up 28 per cent of reported riding mishaps on e-scooters, which can be rented by the minute using apps on smartphones.  The experts, who analysed data on e-scooter injuries at US emergency departments, found there had been 103,943 incidents in the US between 2009 and 2019.   Common types of e-scooter-related head and neck injuries included brain injuries,  lacerations, concussions, and fractures, they found.   The worrying findings have been published the same month rental electric scooters hit the streets of London as part of a trial involving some of the city's boroughs.  Amazingly, although helmets are recommended as part of the UK government-backed trial, which kicked off on June 7, riders are not legally required to wear one.  Scroll down for video  E-scooters are pictured here in London. Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has reportedly issued a decree that female characters in cartoons must wear a hijab, the Islamic head covering that Iranian women are persecuted for refusing to wear. According to the Saudi outlet Al-Arabiya on Monday, Khamenei was holding a virtual forum on the encrypted messaging platform Telegram when someone asked if the hijab, made mandatory for women in Iran after the 1979 Islamic revolution, should also be considered mandatory for “characters in animated films.” “Although wearing hijab in such a hypothetical situation is not required per se, observing hijab in animation is required due to the consequences of not wearing hijab,” Khamenei replied rather confusingly since everything after the comma contradicts everything he said before the comma. Al-Arabiya noted that Iranian women are harassed by everyone from the “morality police,” to regular law enforcement, to self-appointed moral vigilantes for failing to wear hijabs, or even for wearing one “badly.” Iranian women of all ages are nevertheless protesting the hijab with increasing boldness. Iranian state media sources cited by Al-Arabiya said Khamenei issued a fatwa, or...

The Audeze Penrose has almost everything I want in a wireless gaming headset. Its high-end planar magnetic drivers deliver rich, balanced sound quality that’s easily superior to other models I’ve tested recently. It’s feature-packed, too, with individual volume and microphone levels, USB-C charging, a couple of options for wired connectivity (USB-C or 3.5mm), as well as support for simultaneous Bluetooth 5.0 audio connections. As a gaming headset, it’s stacked — which it should be for something that costs $299. After reviewing a headset, I usually can’t wait to return to the familiar, plushy, warm-sounding cans of my own Sony WH-1000XM3, but the Penrose is a joy to listen to. Game audio sounds punchy without being over-delivered, I don’t need to blast the volume to hear subtle details, and even though this headset doesn’t have active noise cancellation, I was almost convinced it did due to a combined effort from its closed-back design and thick ear pads that yield better-than-average sound isolation. In addition to 2.4GHz and Bluetooth, you can connect via USB-C or 3.5mm....
An Idaho woman attended a local city council meeting sporting an eccentric look that she claimed resembled a burka, voicing her frustration that she had to 'dress like a freaking Muslim' to get out of wearing masks while attending classes on her college campus.  The woman - who identified herself as Katie Dugger - was among the many irate residents who spoke during Monday's city council meeting in Lewiston, Idaho, voicing their frustration with mask policies enforced because of COVID-19.  Approaching the podium in a bright multi-colored poncho and floor length skirt along with a loud purple scarf, Katie went into a impassioned speech about how her life had been impacted since having to wear a mask.  'I took last semester off at LCSC (Lewis-Clark State College) because of all this nonsense because I can not wear a mask, it doesn't matter why but it is very traumatizing for me to put on a mask, because of something that happened to me when I was a kid,' she claimed at the podium.  Scroll down for video  The woman -...
