We must find better way to shelter unhoused In an article in Santa Clara Magazine, “Swept Away,” an SCU professor concludes “the constant removal of communities of homeless people may be a danger to their lives,” pointing out that the highest homeless mortality rate in the country is right here. The dismantling of encampments is traumatic for those living there. Then today I read The Mercury News’ “Time running out for people at large camp near airport.” (Page A1, Aug. 22) Two lines jumped out at me: “While city officials believe they will have a bed to offer each of those people before the FAA’s Sept. 30 deadline,Omar Passons [San Jose Deputy City Manager] wouldn’t guarantee it.” And “Gail Osmer, an advocate who helps camp residents access resources, worries many people will just end up relocating to the street come Sept. 30.” This is inhumane. We must invest in more and better ways to house the unhoused. Nancy Doyle San Jose Prop. 28 would allow...
A South Korean DJ has claimed that she was 'harassed' and 'humiliated' by American Airlines staff - who allegedly forced her to get undressed and stand 'half-naked' in front of the crew and passengers, after telling her that she had to remove her pants because they were 'offensive.' DJ Soda, 36, whose real name is Hwang So-hee, boarded her flight from New York to Los Angeles on Tuesday, but before it took off, she was allegedly approached by a flight attendant who told her that she had to leave the plane immediately. The musician claimed she was then told that her sweatpants - which had the word 'f**k' written all over them - were 'inappropriate.'   DJ Soda was left horrified when an airline employee then allegedly forced her to get undressed in the middle of the airport, in front of other passengers and staff members. She claimed that she offered to go into the bathroom and change, but wasn't allowed, and instead, had to 'stand half-naked' by the gate while they continued to make 'sarcastic comments' about her. A South...
The panel on Fox News’ The Five erupted on Monday over the trial of Ghislane Maxwell, the alleged procurer for the late sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. Following a discussion about actor Jussie Smollett, who is on trial for allegedly creating a hoax in which he portrayed himself as the victim of a racist and homophobic attack in 2019, panelist Geraldo Rivera said, “I think Jussie Smollett will plead to one of these charges of disorderly conduct. He has six disorderly conduct for filing false reports. I think that he will, faced with an insurmountable case, will plead guilty.” Slamming his hand on the table, Rivera said, “I am outraged by the Maxwell case. You talked about Darrell Brooks, the creep who ran over his girlfriend and then killed six people in a parade and he was out on a $1,000 bail.” “Ghislaine Maxwell has been in jail for 17 months for no bail,” continued Rivera. “No bail! She is sitting in prison prior to trial accused, get this, of  events that between 1994 and 1998.” Brooks has been charged with killing six people and injuring more than 40 in Waukesha, Wisconsin on...
Rep. Adam Kinzinger (R-IL) appeared with Wolf Blitzer on Wednesday to discuss the work of the House select committee investigating the January 6 Capitol riot, and drew a curious parallel. The CNN host asked the congressman if he agreed with fellow committee member Liz Cheney’s (R-WY) assessment that Steve Bannon had foreknowledge of the riot. On a podcast on January 5, Bannon said, “All hell is going to break loose tomorrow.” Kinzinger replied, “I don’t want to get into the evidence that we have or don’t have. I’ll keep that under wraps.” Bannon has been subpoenaed by the committee, but is refusing to comply. A contempt of Congress vote will take place on Thursday as House GOP leadership has urged members to vote against it. Republicans by and large oppose the January 6 committee. The congressman then made a broader point about how more Republicans should stand up to Donald Trump. He invoked Flight 93, on which passengers, including a man named Todd Beamer, attempted to storm the cockpit of the hijacked plane on September 11, 2001. The plane crashed...

Standing has been illegal in the top division since all-seater stadiums were introduced in 1994 following the Taylor report into the Hillsborough disaster. But ministers will this week give the go-ahead for Premier League and EFL clubs to add seats with barriers so fans can stand. It will be the first major decision made by new Culture Secretary Nadine Dorries, a Liverpool fan brought up half-a-mile from Anfield. She is keen to act after studying independent research and talks with fans’ groups, police and...
Florida school district fires teacher for medical marijuana use Brazil Foreign Minister Asked to Resign Over Virus Diplomacy Quincy Crew was planning to compete with Milan Kozomara as a stand-in for its Dota 2 roster at the ONE Esports Singapore Major. But that’s no longer possible because his flight was canceled.  © Provided by Dot Esports Team manager Jack “KBBQ” Chen confirmed today that Milan was supposed to fly into Singapore from Belgrade, Serbia, but his flight was canceled for technical reasons while the plane was already in the air.  Milan would have taken the spot of Arif “MSS” Anwar, who tested positive for COVID-19 earlier this week and was deemed unable to travel.  This was the same flight that Nikola “LeBronDota” Popović was taking, with plans for him to stand-in for Natus Vincere after the roster’s coach and original substitute, Andrey “Mag” Chipenko, also contracted COVID-19 ahead of the event. Na’Vi ended up withdrawing from the event entirely due to further COVID concerns and the limited time remaining to work around other complications.  KBBQ said that Milan “traveled...

He recalled the passengers rose up against the radical Islamic terrorists that had hijacked the plane, crashing it into a Pennsylvania field before it could reach the Capitol building in Washington, DC. “The 40 on Flight 93 did the most American of things, they took a vote and they acted together,” Trump said. “They charged the cockpit. They confronted the...
President Donald Trump commemorated the 19th anniversary of the September 11 terror attacks by delivering remarks at the United Flight 93 memorial site in Shanksville, Pennsylvania. Passengers onboard the flight heroically rushed the cockpit and overpowered hijackers on September 11, 2001, forcing the plane to crash in a field in Pennsylvania. The plane was the only hijacked flight not to hit its intended target on 9/11. The president spoke shortly after the names of the 40 individuals on the flight were read aloud, with moments of silence and bells ringing following each name. A Black woman is applauding Delta Air Lines for taking a stand against racism after she was harassed by a white passenger on a recent flight. Demetria Poe was traveling from Minneapolis to Washington, D.C. to a civil rights rally when a white female passenger swapped her initial mask to wear a Blue Lives Matter face mask. The white woman instigated a conversation with Poe by saying, “I support blue lives because I support our officers” according to Facebook post from Poe. “That woman was trying to entice me into an argument because there was no need for her to flip that mask in my presence,” Poe told USA Today. “She didn’t do it for anyone else. It was as if she was making a statement and wanted me to know.” “Us saying black lives matter don’t mean all other lives don’t matter,” Poe continued. “We are saying if all lives matter, ‘Why is it justifiable for anyone to slaughter Black people?’ “ The woman also said statements like “Africans from the west sold the most slaves” and “Having...
