IN some countries, unconventional baby names are off limits, with ones that push the envelope getting outright banned by the government. But in the United States, naming kids is a bit more of a free-for-all, with parents allowed to give their little ones monikers that are illegal in countries like France, China, and Australia. 1Some baby names allowed in the United States may be banned in other countriesCredit: Getty The name Jihad is banned in France, and there have been at least three pairs of French parents who have gone to court after naming their sons Jihad. SIR ALEX FERGUSON labelled Arsenal “babies” to pump up his Manchester United players. The Scot’s infamous battles with then-Gunners boss Arsene Wenger personified the hatred between the two Premier League title rivals in the late Nineties and early Noughties. 2Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand clashes with Arsenal players in 2004Credit: News Group Newspapers Ltd And Red Devils legend Rio Ferdinand revealed Fergie would often belittle Arsenal during team talks at the height of the bitter rivalry. Ferdinand said: “Sir Alex Ferguson used to say, ‘get in their faces. They don’t like it, they can’t deal with it. They’re babies. “'Get right up against them and you’ll win this game. Rio, you’ll overrun them, you’ll overpower them.’” United and Arsenal were the only Prem champions for eight seasons folowing Wenger’s Highbury arrival in September 1996. An increasing number of women are taking to social media to discuss their lives as 'submissive' wives and girlfriends in a trend which has seen them ditch their jobs to look after their partners full-time. Videos on TikTok, under hashtags including #submissivewomen, #submissivewives, and #tradwives, include both men and women discussing the lifestyle, what it means to them, and why they enjoy it. Among the thousands of videos online are ones featuring US and UK housewives discussing how happy they are to have ditched feminism and replaced it with 'femininity', opting to relinquish financial independence and control, and replace them with domestic chores and subservience to their husbands and boyfriends. Well-known UK tradwife Alena Kate Pettitt, founder of lifestyle website The Darling Academy, writes on her blog that she 'learned to love [herself] and [her] feminine identity' after an early midlife crisis 'left [her] shattered emotionally and wondering why the world, despite all its opportunity made me feel so unsatisfied with [her] life, and how [her] supposed “modern and empowering” choices had destroyed [her] self-esteem'. She ditched her stressful London career for a...
Parents are preparing their children to head back to school with a very different school supply list this year - including bulletproof backpacks and dresses, as well as and notes on what to do if there's an active shooter. As back-to-school season approaches, both parents and students alike are facing the horrific realities of the rise in gun violence and what it means for the upcoming school year. Following the recent Uvalde, Texas, school shooting, many parents have taken a drastically different approach to back-to-school prep this year. Instead of filling their kids' backpacks with crayons and markers, parents are packing bulletproof inserts into their children's bookbags, designing bulletproof clothing for their tots - and even running active shooter drills with them to prepare for the start of the school year.   Parents have begun taking a different approach to back to school prep; Cassie Walton, 22, from Oklahoma, took to TikTok to share she's been bracing her son with active shooter drills Walton shared a video of her five-year-old son Weston going through an active shooter drill at home in hopes of preparing...
Republican Governor Pete Ricketts said Sunday that if Roe v. Wade is overturned he will call a special session in Nebraska to outlaw abortion. He suggested during an interview with CNN's State of the Union that the law in his state would likely not include exceptions for instances of rape and incest, which means his state's abortion rules could be among the most restrictive in the country. 'The abortion ban you tried to pass did not include any exceptions for rape or incest,' CNN anchor Dana Bash said to Ricketts. 'So, can you clarify, do you think that the state of Nebraska should require a young girl who was raped to carry that pregnancy to term?' Ricketts described that he believes life begins at the time of conception and declared Nebraska a 'pro-life state' before reaffirming that he thinks rape victims should not be legally able to terminate their pregnancy. 'Those are babies, too,' Ricketts insisted. 'If Roe v. Wade, a horrible constitutional decision, gets overturned by the Supreme Court, which we're hopeful of, here in Nebraska we'll take further...
Republican Nebraska Gov. Pete Ricketts declared on Sunday morning that he wants his state to pass a law banning all abortion with no exceptions for incest or rape, stating that it’s his “intention” to call a special legislative session to take “further steps” to “protect preborn babies.” Abortion rights have suddenly emerged as one of the top election issues heading into the midterms, following this month’s leaked Supreme Court draft opinion that would overturn Roe v. Wade. The opinion, written by Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito, would not only uphold Mississippi’s 15-week abortion ban but would also strike down the federal right to abortion. Currently, 13 states have so-called “trigger laws” on the books that would immediately and effectively outlaw abortion once Roe v. Wade is reversed. Nebraska, however, is not one of these states as their attempt—which would have provided no exceptions in cases of rape or incest—was blocked by a legislative filibuster last month. Interviewing Ricketts on CNN’s State of the Union on Sunday morning, anchor Dana Bash noted that Nebraska’s effort to pass a “trigger law” failed...

It’s completely normal, however, and may be seen in as many as one in four newborn girls. 1A pediatrician has said it's true that baby girls can have their first period as a newbornCredit: Nathan Allred / Alamy Called sudo menses, or false menses, it causes a very small amount of blood which may just be visible as a small smear in a nappy. Then, the baby girl won’t have another period for a decade or longer, when puberty starts kicking in. Dr Carole Keim MD, a pediatrician in Boulder, Colorado, affiliated with San Luis Valley Health-Alamosa, told her TikTok followers: “Yes this is so true.  “Baby girls can have a little period once they are born. “It usually happens around day three to five of life if it's going to happen at all. “It can happen in as many as 25 per cent of baby girls, and it usually only lasts a day or less." Dr Keime reassured...

San Diego officials have been slammed for spending public money on 'divisive and misleading' billboards telling black mothers that racism could hurt their babies - before they're even born. The billboards argue that racial discrimination is behind higher rates of miscarriages and maternal deaths among black women. They include claims that 'Our black babies are nearly 60% more likely to be premature due to discrimination' and 'Racism hurts your baby long before they're born'. Carl DeMaio, a former San Diego city councilmember and chairman of Reform California, a conservative political action committee, said the claims were not supported by data and could discourage women from seeking medical care. The adverts argue that racial discrimination is behind higher rates of miscarriages and maternal deaths among black women. This one reads: 'Racism hurts your baby long before they're born' 'The big lie is that somehow America is filled with racism - when in fact, America has made so much progress on that issue,' he told Fox News. 'It's truly something to celebrate.' He said the billboards send a 'dangerous and divisive message,'...

In a highly-produced nearly-10 minute video that’s gone viral among the Christian right a Minnesota priest says Catholics cannot be Democrats, because they are “godless.” “Period.” Any who do are going to “face the fires of hell.” He then goes on to attack a wide array of American institutions. “Here’s a memo for clueless, baptized Catholics out there,” rants Rev. James Altman, pastor of Lacrosse, Wisconsin’s St. James the Less Catholic parish, in the video, as Religion News Service reports. “You cannot be Catholic and be a Democrat. Period.” He says no real Catholics voted for Barack Obama, a “godless politician who had the audacity to blaspheme and say, ‘God bless Planned Parenthood,’ the most racist organization on the face of this planet. Founded to wipe out black babies.” He also calls the Southern Poverty Law Center “one of the most godless, communist, anti-American left-wing radical organizations in the United States.” Black Lives Matter, he says, is “Marxist.” Climate change?
